Owner normally so kind gves you a drink says hello today rude and blanked me girls were lovely though polite and apologised for him and gave me an orange juice

£2.70 for regular chips and they were not great , chewy like they’d been sat ages , dry and they only take cash! Yes we need to keep cash alive but for a fish and chip shop ?!

Consistently good food, friendly and efficient service and a pleasure to use. The batter is crisp, choice is like a ‘proper’ British chip shop and the shop is immaculate. Thank you!

A disappointing experience at The Master Fryer in Emmer Green tonight. A refusal to serve me chips that were hot. I paid for some chips and when the guy opened the storage section, it was clear that all that was left was the last section of that batch. He had to scrape the scoop across the bottom of the section to get the chips out. Foreseeing that they may have been sat there for a while, I asked if they’d be cold. He said they are fresh and would be hot. Once in a bag, I touched a chip and it was barely even warm. I politely asked if he could make a fresh, hot batch. He refused to do so and offered me just a refund. He insisted this batch of chips was hot and only made a few minutes before. When I asked him numerous times to touch the chip to show what I meant, he continually refused to do so and just insisted they were hot. The batch had clearly not just been made. Aside from them being cold, they would not, being a Friday night, make a fresh batch of a small amount like that. He continued to refuse to serve hot chips and gave me a refund. No doubt those cold chips went back into the storage to be served to another paying customer. Before anyone jumps down my throat and says “It’s only chips - what’s the big deal?’ … the issue isn’t the chips, it’s the very poor customer service. Refusing to provide what a customer is paying for and denying there’s an issue when there clearly is, just to save a matter of pennies. Could I not just have heated it up once home? Of course. But I’d planned to eat them on the way home.

Right so, I reviewed this chippy a little while back and gave it a pretty harsh and critical rating of 3/5. However, I did state in that review that I had been before and knew it was a very reputable chippy that served up some incredible grub in the past. That particular trip was obviously bad timing with the luke-warm chips. SO, I decided to go back and give it a second chance. This time I was not disappointed. Went for the Jumbo Sausage this time with a pot of classic “curry sauce”. The chips were piping hot, fresh. 50/50 ratio to crispies and floppies which I can’t fault. Something for everyone. Jumbo sausage was a proper jumbo. I also think it’s worth pointing out the 50p buttered bread rolls in a pot at the counter, love that. Real nostalgia. Also any chippy that has a slushy machine wins every time. No I didn’t get one because I’m not 10.. Okay yeah I got a slushy.

We all love a chippy for different reasons. This place is a decent chip shop. I’ve been a couple times. However, this time wasn’t brilliant. Unfortunately the chips were luke warm, the battered sausage batter was a bit too greasy for my liking, a bit more slimy than crispy if that makes sense? I don’t want to say much else about it because I dislike giving bad reviews. I gave this place a 3/5 because I know it’s been better in the past. It was just this trip that let it down.

Service was friendly & execution was fast. It is a take away & our food was still nice & hot when we had reached home. We had cod & chips. The fish had a nice golden crispy battered exterior & the fish nice & moist inside. Portion size big. Chips not bad but have had better. Portion size big. A cash only business.

Useless. Friday, herd of people all waiting for their order stood outside in the cold. This is the usual story on a Friday and it amazes me that they still haven't got the gumption to cook a bulk load of fish, which frankly is their main order. For the last time I've driven up and driven straight back out of the carpark Covid distancing inside the shop, well not really and still saw multiple people waiting to be severed with little regard for social distancing. Also they still provide the salt/vinegar for anyone to handle!

Can’t believe that customers are still able to use the salt and vinegar, you would think that with COVID there would be some restrictions. Owners Child on the counter seems to be a health and safety risk, seen this on a few occasions, not sure how they pass hygiene assessments considering the child is always running around the fryer.

The best fish & chips got told about this place during lockdown and thought as our usual fish&chip shop was closed we would give it a try. We have not gone back to our usual as the quality is superior a bit more price wise but would rather pay it for such good products also the staff are very friendly and helpful and automatically know what I want as soon as they see me and as I am disabled and use crutches they look after me.

Friendly fast, efficient service. Nice big cod fish portion, juicy with crisp batter, chips not bad, I've had better though. Only downside to me is it's cash only & I don't use cash for anything.

A proper local chippy, albeit part of a chain. Proper chips, nice fish, good sausages and the usual extras. Very nice staff, friendly and smiling and a bit like a pub, walk in, smile, "Usual ?" Yep, and get served quickly if you are a regular, the social distancing is fine at the moment but as it is small and people wait outside I think it will suffer on a rainy day. OAP specials and the childrens meal deals are enough for a normal dinner for most people.

Went in at lunch for two large chips, two cod and a can of coke, and it came to £17.70. SEVENTEEN POUNDS SEENTY. On what planet is that a reasonable price for fish and chips? The quality is nothing special, in fact compared to last time I was here (about a year ago) it was considerably worse. And as usual there was the wait: it's never a quick in and out at this place, waiting ten to fifteen minutes is a regular occurrence, no matter what you order. All Covid-19 safety measures have passed this place by too. Staff don't wear masks, payment is cash only (hello tax man), and salt and vinegar is a communal thing, god knows how many hands have touched the bottles. A place to avoid.

Unlike most other places who are card only, these guys only offer cash only. I was given the change that the person in front of me gave in. I keep sanitizer in my car luckily. Sausage was not good quality, too bland. Vinegar very watered down.

The fish is ok, reasonably priced but you'd think anyone who's run a chippy as long as that lot would understand their trade is going to rocket on a Friday evening. However this shop always has queues out the door on a Friday. Supply and demand people! Go elsewhere if you want to eat.

I keep coming back because they provide a good reliable bag of fish and chips, which is what I always buy and also their friendly service. I've never had to wait too long to be served. It compares very well with other fish and chips I've used around the country, even the seaside ones, that frequently aren't as good as this one or as they claim.

The chips served at this chippy are terrible, and they have the cheek to charge £2.00 a bag were as a few months ago they were £2.20. I would happily pay the new price but these chips are a lifeless, luke warm floppy examples. Do not ask for hot chips you wont get them. For real quality take a trip to Sonning Common Chippy, a short drive away but well worth the trip Does anyone from there Head Office read these reviews, I think they should. Get over hear as teach this lot how to cook proper chips. Sales will leap.

En el lado positivo: grandes porciones.Pero el bacalao era en su mayoría rebozado, el interior estaba seco y había estado dando vueltas por un tiempo.Las fichas definitivamente se recalientan a la hora del almuerzo, o posiblemente la noche anterior.Sólo en efectivo, no hay tarjetas. Supongo que hace las cuentas más fáciles.

Así, chippy no es mejor que los demás localmente, pero lo que me molesta es que no se ponen sal y vinagre (puedes hacerlo tú mismo en una mesa a un lado, pero las bolsas altas que usan significa que no puedes llegar a la comida) en la parte inferior) y en 2018 no aceptarán tarjetas para el pago.

Buen pescado y patatas fritas. Tuvimos 2 porciones de bacalao y patatas fritas. Hermosas patatas fritas grandes y una gran porción de bacalao. Mouthwatering en realidad. Un montón de pasta sabrosa y un montón de pescado dentro. Llegó en 2 bolsas de papel individuales dentro de una bolsa de papel más grande. Buena presentación. Amable y atento personal. ¿Qué más puedes pedir? Un poco caro, pero en general, definitivamente iría allí de nuevo.

Pasé por aquí cuando estaba de paso y necesitaba una cena rápida.Haddock y patatas fritas eran excelentes, cocinados rápidamente y fresco. 6. 70.Sin pago con tarjeta, pero hay un cajero automático al lado. Cocinaron el pescado mientras yo iba a buscar efectivo, lo cual fue bueno para ellos. Muy recomendable.No hay asientos interiores, pero un par de bancos fuera. Aparcamiento gratuito inmediatamente fuera.

I have been coming here for years and just thought I would say that I highly recommend this place for its quality food and service. It is the best shop in reading by far. Mike

Took a full 10 minutes to serve 2 portions of chips despite ample having been cooked and ready to be served. When I eventually asked for my money back they got shirty before serving me immediately. No justification for such a lengthy wait.

Been here several times and when I was on the local school parents committee they provided the food- always good.

Estado viniendo aquí durante varios años, al menos una vez al mes. Siempre se pegan a pescado y patatas fritas, y recto mientras que a veces es mejor que otros, nunca he tenido una mala, lejos de serlo. El personal regular y eficiente son alegre Y si usted puede tomar la freidora principal del ojo, uno es recompensado con una sonrisa. Las raciones son excelentes, también. El aparcamiento es fácil y hay una buena colección de otras tiendas en el desfile.

El 26 de septiembre, que había soportado un terrible viaje en el tráfico de la hora punta. Tardaron dos horas cuando debería haber tomado 40 minutos. La mejor opción para una cena, parecía ser una comida para llevar.

Surely having small children in the kitchen is not very hygienic practice, or even safe for the child? Food seemed ok, but come on!!

When ever we have fish and chips we get them from here. Food is always fresh and very good with friendly staff. Would recommend if you are looking for fish and chips

It was very busy when I turned up. The person taking the orders seemed very organised. The chef was keeping up with the orders to start with and then slowed down so got behind.

Next doors to The Bite is a nice family run chippie. Nice food, fast turn around. sauces are extra, but very affordable.
