Golden Rice in Reading

Over cooked, chewy, salty, sugary inedible food. It's such a shame because the menu looked amazing but I didn't eat more than 1/5 of any of the dishes I ordered. It all went into the food waste bin. I wish I'd read the Google reviews rather than the Deliveroo ones. Such as waste of food and money! I forgot to add that we paid extra for priority delivery and it came after 70 minutes. Not priority delivery. I don't know where the food is coming from for the 4* and 5* reviews, or if they're friends & family reviewers, because it cannot be the same place as our food came from!

Through deliveroo. Paid £2.49 extra for priority service still, came as late as it possibly could. But main issue is the food quality is just awful. Had to throw 3 dishes away. Just inedible.

I ordered through UberEats last night, food arrived fine. When I went to bite into one on the wan tons in the wan ton soup I ordered. I found a staple, I have contacted UberEats and they have been less than helpful. I then contacted the restaurant to inform them off this, and the person on the line offered to provide me another portion of wan ton soup for free next time. This has not been a good experience.

Food was exceptionally tasty. Non greasy. But was stone cold. Had to reheat in my oven. One of the tastiest Chinese’s I’ve ever had. Just a shame about it being cold.

this was my first time trying here and i’m not disappointed! the person who took my order was super lovely and even brought out the different types of shrimp so i could tell him which one i wanted. the food came very quickly (within 5 minutes) and i was even offered a fork which may seem like a silly thing to write in a review but a lot of places would just assume you’re taking it home and not offer cutlery so that’s also very thoughtful. i’m not usually one to leave google reviews however the service and food was really good :)

Just ordered through deliveroo and can't rate the food high enough, tasty, non greasy , enjoyed very much will definitely be ordering from here again

I’ve read the reviews and had to double check that I’m reviewing the same place, we ordered a takeaway using Uber Eats - we got a slot for delivery and the food arrived on time The portions are generous The chicken sweetcorn soup was good, we liked the balance of sweet to salty The kids had sweet and sour chicken which they loved My BBQ rib was in a bit too much source but otherwise quite nice There was plenty left for tomorrow

The beef was literally just breadcrumbs no beef hardly and hardly any curry sauce given.

This restaurant has trust issues with Deliveroo. I was given the wrong order by Deliveroo so, I reordered it and the restaurant accepted. The restaurant, then, called me and said that they had made my food once but they are not going to do it again because Deliveroo haven't confirmed that they are paying for it. I, then, contacted Deliveroo, told them the problem and they contacted the restaurant and told me that the restaurant confirmed were making the food again. We waited an hour and a half before the rider who delivered the wrong food the first time said that my reorder was coming up as a refund. I called the restaurant and they, confirmed that they accepted the order but refused to make the food. I would avoid this restaurant especially, on Deliveroo. There food is pretty average anyway.

Fab takeaway. Fresh. Sweet chilli dip and spring rolls are amazing not over spicy. I order the A4 set dinner. It's enough for 2 people. It's not over priced. Always order through uber eats as a member I get free delivery. Turns up on time, hot, fresh, Tasty food.

Save your money! £40 and all food inedible, chicken was off covered with salt to mask smell, noodles you wouldn’t feed to an animal and all round sour taste. Contact number doesn’t work

Awesome Chinese food with very fair pricing

Lovely food but took an hour and 45 minutes to arrive and when I called they had to ask what my order was. Perhaps forgotten?

The food is disgusting. Every item we ordered, bar the spring rolls, was too salty to stomach! This is the worst Chinese I’ve eaten.

We placed our order and an hour later we still hadn’t received our order. I decided to phone the store and the phone operator was very rude and wouldn’t let me talk. When our food turned up an hour and 20 mins later the delivery driver kept on buzzing our front door 3 times repeatedly when I have on my delivery notes to call when outside. We have kids here and they both woke up crying. Not Happy. On the other hand, food was good…

Paid online and was called an hour later to be told that they had no one to deliver my order and that they would refund me the following day. A week later, there is still no refund. It's such a shame since the food is delicious here but can no longer trust ordering from them.

Dreadful service.an hour and half for delivery then rang shop and got rated up at and shouted at.lovely food but staff leave a lot to be desired.

Refused to deliver my order through uber eats about an hour after already accepting. They had claimed that I had cancelled myself when putting it through the system and now have to wait between 3-10 business days for a refund and have not been able to eat tonight.

They cancelled my order an hour after ordering on UberEats stating that I called them to cancel. Shocking service. Now I must wait for 3-5 days for a refund.

Excellent food. The chef was very busy and still popped out to talk to us to accommodate our request. The food well exceeded our expectations, definitely one of the better chinese takeouts around. Definitely recommend, in fact we might be back tmr to try something else 😀

We have been loyal customers of Golden Rice for many years. In the last year their delivery has been ver slow - on many occasions they take 2 hours to deliver for which they should be embarrassed. We ordered food yesterday and not only was the delivery time 2.5 hours - but the food that turned up on our doorstep yesterday was disgusting. Rushed, flavourless, stale. After giving them our custom for many years - WE ARE FINISHED with golden rice. There is a much nicer chinese takeaway called HOME COOKING also on WHITLEY STREET - I recommend them instead.

Very slow Delivery very slow 5.55 pm came 19.33 pm

Placed order at 6:30. Food still not here at 8:22. Rang twice , was told to wait 15 min. Waited 25. Still no food. No apology , was told only have one driver you have to wait. Second call - all was said , ten more min wait is all we can do. Ask if they could do anything in form of compensation. Answer was - NO. HORRID service

Absolutely disgraceful. I ordered from here 2 weeks ago from the Uber app. I ordered just before 5pm and received an estimated delivery of 5.30-5.40. I had a house full of kids and grandparents and spent almost £60. 6.15 no sign of food so I kept calling the number. 7pm no answer, no email, money taken. With this I send my son to the local take out assuming I wasn’t getting my food. During this time, way past 7 pm and 2 hrs after I ordered.. I get a call asking if I still want my food?? It still needed cooking and delivery. The man said they had no staff until this call. I said I had already ordered elsewhere. He agreed it was their fault saying I would be refunded by Uber Uber sent an email with money off coupons stating I would get FULL REFUND!!! However since then I find out this restaurant told them it had been cooked etc! This is a complete lie and I will be taking this much further. I have confirmation of this and phone and order records. If this restaurant believes that I would sit for over 2 hrs without any reply or correspondence while my children are hungry they are wrong!!!!! He said they had no staff to even answer phone so why take an order at 4.45 then call me at home 7/7.30, expect me to wait to be cooked and delivered and then LIE SAYING I CANCELLED! To take my £60. Never I will take this all the way out of principle

The chicken curry is fantastic, asked for extra hot and it didn’t disappoint, lovely bit of spice. Well recommend 👍🏼quick delivery too, will order again.

Worse experience I’ve ever recieved ordered at 6.18 food arrives at 930pm phone number attached never answers and gets phone call to say sorry it’s late will be another half hour which turns into an hour and then to top it off food was rubbish never going here again they should not be allowed to trade under just eat coz they don’t care avoid at all costs

Love the food, have had takeaway from here a lot. It’s basic but really tasty and I’ve only ever had minor niggles with an order. There were some wobbles just before\ during when it changed hands but is back on form these days. People have mentioned delays but I can’t speak to that as I always collect and it’s fine.

Ordered food for delivery and waited for an hour, which was the expected time for arrival. Gave them an extra half hour just to be fair and then called, to be told ‘the car had broken down’ and it would be another 45 mins. No apology, sounded very stressed. Just annoying really, but won’t order from hear again

Appalling service. Ordered from just eat and it arrived over an hour late (after being marked as sent and delivered on the app). When we had called to ask about our order - they hung up on us.

Clearly under new management as place is appalling the man taking the orders is rude and can’t take orders properly and charge you for food you haven’t got not only are they fraudsters your have to wait two hours to collect it I’ve ordered from this place for years but will never order from here again

Ordered via Just eat, got told order was delayed once, 30m later nothing else so requested asking how long it would be. They replied order delayed and should get it soon. I try calling via their Just Eat number and it just rings. I have to physically google the restaurant and call the landline number they have listed to find out that over 1hr 30m since I placed the order, they haven’t even started it. Only good thing was that they refunded me. Ive eaten from them before and they have always been slow and food nice, but never this slow!

Unfortunately I cannot give ZERO stars, Placed my order and was told 45 minutes for delivery, called to see what was happening 1 hour an 30 minutes later and was told the driver should have delivered already, my food was delivered 2 hours later!!, food was cold, delivery driver refused to let me have my receipt and told me that it was for the shop and then asked me if I wanted my change? Absolutely disgraceful and appalling food and service, theres a first time for everything and this will definitely be my last time, unacceptable and very disappointing, NEVER AGAIN !!!

Food is amazing ! However I ordered my food at 6:30 and just eat told me it will be delivered around 8pm . It came to 8:05pm I checked on the just eat website to find out where me food was , and they changed the delivery time 4 times . It finally arrived around 9:30 pm .

Ordered from just eat. Waited over 2 hours for food and it kept getting delayed. Called over 30 times and finally got through for them to say it would still be over an hour!! The situation with the world rite now is no excuse! Don’t take orders if you can’t cope and be honest with the wait time! Your only job is to cook food and deliver it to the customer you didn’t even do that. Maybe take up another profession...

Una vez que llegó, las costillas en salsa barbacoa quedaron tan duras que la carne no se desprende del hueso ni siquiera con los dientes. ! ¡El pollo satay estaba tan seco que tenía la textura de cecina! ! ! ! ¡Y el chow mein de pollo era tan soso que tuve que usar la barbacoa realmente salada solo para darle un poco de sabor! ! ! !Mi esposo dijo que los panqueques estaban buenos, ¡pero en este punto no quería tragarlos! ! ! ¡Y las galletas de gambas eran normales en el mejor de los casos! !¡Es seguro decir que esta fue la primera y única vez que ordenaremos desde aquí, ya que el contenedor se alimentó mejor con esta comida para llevar que nosotros! ! ! !¡No se moleste en guardar su dinero! ! ! ! !

If I could give this restaurant a 0 star review I would, I just ordered from this restaurant and was supposed to be delivered by 18:45 and it is now 20:15 I have been on the phone to the staff at the golden rice since 18:45 because we saw a delivery being taken to our next door neighbors and were worried that it was ours so we called them up and found out that it was our order, so then we were trying to find out how to rectify the situation which ended with the restaurant receptionist, manager, delivery driver shouting down the phone at us saying it’s not their problem and that they delivered the food so that’s it then hung up, we tried calling them up but every time they just answered and straight away put it back down. By the end of it we didn’t even care about the food we just wanted our £91 back so we had to go through just eat and get a refund nearly 2 hours after our food was supposed to arrive!

Absolutely abysmal and would advise anyone to use anywhere else... order placed and they delivered to the wrong house number or they didn’t actually deliver anything to anywhere. Phoned them up to be told they had delivered and they said their driver had but he hadn’t. They put the phone down on me and then kept ignoring my number.... rang off a different number and then just shouted abuse down the phone at me..... had to go through JustEat and have had my money refunded....... first time in trying this place and will most definitely be the last time....... absolutely poor with no interest in customer service

I would give this 0 if I could. We ordered through Just Eat at around 7:30pm, and were told that the delivery would be at 9pm. At about 9:15pm I used the Just Eat app to report it late and it told me a text would be sent to the restaurant and they would reply to me within 5min. This didn't happen, so I tried the number supplied by the app. This was a mobile number that was either engaged or rang out without answer. When I was finally able to get through, at 10pm, the gent was apologetic and admitted they had taken on too many orders. He asked the kitchen about my order and was told it would be at least half an hour extra before it even left the kitchen, and conceded that the delivery time would be "very late". We have cancelled the order as having it leave the kitchen 3hrs after the order was placed is unacceptable. The restaurant did not have the courtesy to contact me at all to inform me of the huge delay and did not bother to update the delivery time in the app at all. Don't bother with this place. There are bound to be Chinese takeaways that actually value their customers - these clearly do not.

Best Chinese food I've ever had. Love their sweet and sour dishes, especially spare ribs and Hong Kong Style chicken. They also get Pineapple Fritters exactly perfect, with a good helping of syrup and small chunks of pineapple in batter balls. Free prawn crackers with any main dish/starter that you order. Free drinks if you order over £30. Free fortune cookies if you order over £20. Free calendars on occasion. Does not compare to Golden Wok or Hong Kong City.

Ordered food at 19.30pm was due at 20.55pm. I rang from 21.30pm didnt get through until 23.00pm was told my order was coming and still did not come. I am fuming I was lied to and waiting for my order. I am also heavily pregnant! I didn't know if or when I should have eaten or not waiting for this food that never came. Should of been honest and told me food wasn't coming and give me a refund!!

AVOID.Terrible customer service. We waited initially for 2 and a half hours and tried numerous times to contact restaurant to see where our order was. They eventually picked up and were rude on the phone with regards to the delay. Asked us how much discount we want and said for the discount to be valid we then have to go collect it and then hung up.

We ordered over two hours ago and still waiting for the food to be delivered. Whenever you call the restaurant it cuts off saying the phone is busy. Just looked on just eat and it says it’s been delivered when it certainly hasn’t. Defiantly won’t be ordering from here again!

Waited 3 hours for the food only to be told on the phone that it could still be another hour and a half wait, what a joke! When asking for a refund at the same time as no one had told us about the wait we were then told we were being refunded and the food was not going to come... I understand the pressure at the moment but everything about this experience was awful, I will never order from here again!

We've order quite a few times from here and food is generally good. But it is often late, and tonight not only is the food an hour late (and counting), but they're not even picking up the phone. Assuming there's not some kind of emergency like a fire or someone injured, it's really poor to not even answer the phone.

Estaba gratamente sorprendido! He comido en la mayoría de los platos chinos para llevar y pensé en probarlo. . . Gema oculta. Sin duda comer aquí de nuevo. La comida era absolutamente deliciosa! El conductor de entrega fue amable y puntual. The meal was delivered late and was of pretty average quality. I was offered some money back to be taken off of my next order. I won't be ordering from them again, so that is a pointless gesture. If you cannot deliver what you advertise, don't bother...

Food was good but took a whole hour longer than the 45 mins that was quoted to us. We did receive free prawn crackers. My husband enjoyed the curry and said he would order again despite the wait.

I didn't order so I can't comment on the delivery service, I went directly to pick it up: the duck with plum sauce and roasted pork noodles were delicious. The food came out quickly and was packaged neatly.

Gasté más de 15 (pedido por minuto de entrega, galletas de gambas incluidas) así que me entregaron la comida. La comida no llegó rápido sino en tiempo aceptable. Pedí un juego de sopa de maíz dulce, pollo chow mein, ternera con champiñones y le agregué una crema de frijoles. Siendo chino, me di cuenta de que la comida no estaba cocinada adecuadamente a la manera china. Aunque todavía son aceptables, no sabían bien. Los fideos estaban secos y el plato de carne vino en demasiada salsa. Empaquetaron mal el plato de cuajada de cuentas, así que en lugar de la cuajada de habichuelas, obtuve una cuajada de habichuelas agridulce, que no era lo que pedí. Aunque la sopa de maíz dulce era bastante agradable y los recipientes estaban llenos de comida, esta experiencia fue generalmente decepcionante. No creo que vuelva a ordenar de este restaurante.

I cannot express how angry this restaurant has made me this evening!... I ordered my food at 5.30pm it was then delivered at 7.45pm! After opening the food it was cold in the middle and the ribs were burnt. I called back to complain and ask for a refund and the manager refused to talk to me but instead pass messages backwards and forth through the girl on the phone. They then put the phone down on me twice and told me a refund is not going to be made! After paying £16 for something inedible I am not impressed and suggest everyone avoid this place!!!

I only discovered this place 2 weeks ago. Seen comments about chips not cooked... I don't so chips but a few of my son's and they were most definitely able of swaying me to like chips more. Best sweet chilli beef I've EVER had too!! And this comes from a person that never did like a Chinese take away, apart from crispy duck. Looking forward to trying more!

There's beef in the crispy chilli beef. That is all I need to be adventurous and try more.The comments about long waiting time perhaps need to state what day and time and I'd actually take positive vibes from a place that is that busy you have to wait that long. I dont di chips but had some of my son's and I may have been converted. I hope my positive experience continues.

Really not happy with the quality of the service, I’ve eaten many Chinese food in my life but this was the worst I’ve ever eaten. Quantity was also not good, but the quality is really worst. I do not recommend it to anyone if they really want to have Chinese food. Pork ribs wasn’t fresh and it taste terrible. And black bean sauce was tooo salty. Please avoid it. Unfortunately only giving 3 stars due to the shocking delivery service. Ordered on just eat, email order received at 8.05. Delivery time of 9.20. Phoned at 9.30 to be told driver on way. Phoned at 9.45 to be told driver on way. Phoned at 10pm (an hour and 50 after placing order and 40 minutes after it was due). Told them to cancel order and she was all surprised why I would want to cancel. Driver arrived 2 minutes later. I accepted the order and their only saving grace was that the food was hot and nice although the chow mein was dry. Not the best experience.

Food arrived cold. Portions small (tubs not full) chips not cooked properly, chow mein VERY DRY. Honey spare ribs 🤔 couldn't find or taste the honey. Egg fired rice the same, not much egg if any. The portions from other places would feed all 3 of us with a decent amount on our plates, not this time. First time ordering and will be the last.

Intenté ordenar desde ayer por la noche tenía un pedido muy grande, pero la llamada señora en el otro extremo, qué grosera me hizo sentir para terminar la llamada terrible manera de llamar por teléfono que recibirían más pedidos si tuvieran un personal cortés que contestara el teléfono, no actitud totalmente decepcionado.

Es una lástima porque la comida es bastante buena, pero su servicio al cliente es horrendo. Dicen 35 minutos y me llevó una hora y 15 minutos un miércoles; es una administración de las expectativas tan espantosa, ¡oh, y me enviaron arroz especial frito en lugar de comida especial! ¡Inútil! !

What a joke. 3rd December was over 2 hours to deliver and tonight the 24th march 2018 was a MASSIVE 2 hours and 25 minutes after being told an hour max. Joke !!!!

The food is great. It is the real Chinese taste. Just like what I eat in HongKong. Reasonably Priced.
