I came for a meal and the service was excellent and the food was piping hot I will be back again in the future the staff was excellent and the service was good

Goodlunch looks like they are having their toilets painted .staff are very friendly and friendly and the food to a good standard

On arrival was told waiting time for food 30/40 mins - acceptable at half term although the pub wasn’t packed. Party was 2 adults + 2 children. One adult gf veggie so we downloaded the special ‘allergy menu’ and selected options. Ordered at the bar guy confirmed everything available - helpful and friendly supplying a tray for drinks without me asking. Server then advised at table gf sandwich not available! I went back to bar and changed to gf dessert. The gf starter and then the dessert came very quickly. The rest of us waited and waited - the kids 2 & 7 were getting tetchy and me hangry so I finally asked about an hour after arriving and watching hopefully every time the kitchen door opened. The manager looked confused but apologised and rushed off and quickly came up with ‘our’ food - one of the kids meals had chips the other didn’t so they shared (more arrived later after I asked). Worst of all my vegetarian order of a falafel wrap had become lamb kofta!! This was replaced when I asked. The staff were polite and trying to be helpful throughout but the experience lasted about two hours and was frustrating (& stressful) to say the least. There appeared to be a shortage of staff and they were apparently closing the kitchen at one stage so the available staff could put away a food order before it spoiled.! I would only recommend this pub for drinks that you can get from the bar now!!

Good atmosphere with friendly staff. Added to our evening. Great new cocktail menu with plenty of choice and at good prices too. We didn't eat there, but the food coming out the kitchen looked and smelt good.

The staff could not have been more attentive or helpful for my wife's birthday dinner.they set an area aside making the children feel very welcome.dispite the restaurant being busy we all got our food together in less than 10 minutes we enjoyed the food and will be using again

As regulars in a Wednesday evening we would like to thank the team for great service. Especially Matt who is always cheerful and very attentive. Good and wine is great. Just a mention to the management - please can you re-upholster the chairs.

Absolutely wonderful place with amazing staff, absolutely love how nice people are. Matt one of the staff is a amazing person on the staff team as well as Tash and a lot of other staff are amazing by making this place this place amazing, everyone is welcoming with great service, I would definitely try this place out the food here is also wonderful!

Went for a Family lunch and for my son to have a play in the park. Food was served quickly and efficiently and very nice. Kieran and Matt were very good and made sure everything was to standard.

Food was good but service was even better every time we come in mike is very helpful and excellent service as usual. He deserves a pay rise .

Came in for lunch with my family and I must say . After reading some negative reviews I’m shocked !! We had fantastic service from the lovely Emma . Really enjoyable and lovely beer garden now it’s getting warmer . Nice little pub would come again .

Don’t eat here staff rude, starter not edable, main came out just after starter, the place is dirty, the toilets disgusting, have eaten here many years no complaints but after my last visit will never visit martletts again, will be interesting to see if you reply!!! As I see you don’t negative feedback

The food was nice but we were made to feel extremely awkward by a waiter. We were there with our friends who had a pram as they have an 8 month old and the pram was completely tucked out of the way the majority of the time. When my friends got their son out and had the pram close to them the waiter decided to stand there, with 2 plates of food in his hands, and rather bluntly say ‘can you get your pram out the way’. Firstly it wasn’t said in a tone you wouldn’t expect from anyone let alone in a customer service environment. Secondly he chose to do this to be confrontational for whatever reason instead of just walking round the pram, which there was more than enough room to do!

Excellent breakfast and Mike was really helpful thanks always ready to help his a credit to green king the meals are really good quality and personally never had reason to complain

I will start with the good point the food was nice and a good price and that's where the good ends. They are extremely understaffed, only one man at front of house who was having to serve drinks, take food orders, great customers, clear tables. the furniture is only good for the bin the chairs and tables are all a mis-match, dirty, stained and well passed there usable life. The lighting is very dim and gloomy, this could be done on purpose to hide all the issues. The ladies toilets stunk, the bottom of the cubicle framework is all rotten, large chunks of plaster were missing from the wall and lots of black mould. If customer areas are this bad it makes you wonder about behind the scenes.

This place is great the staff make you feel so welcome like a home from home. It's nice to walk in and see happy familiar faces

Had a great evening with my family on a regular trip to here, food came out hot and tasty and will always recommend the place Kevin the manager makes us truly welcome.

Appalling food. Honestly the worst food I’ve ever had eating out. Starters: Cluck and cheese- the cheese came out still ice cold. Took it back cheese came out dippy but weird tasting and the chicken dippers came out burnt and inedible. Mains. Kids pasta was dry and some bits hard! Tasteless with hardly any sauce on. All the steaks were chewy. Chips on mixed grill were mouldy. Sausages were just about cooked however soft and soggy were not cooked for longer. Hands down the worst hungry horse I’ve been too (and we use a lot) Won’t be returning!!

Visited again recently, whereby I was greeted by Matt who took our bar order and the lovely Josh was on the bar as well. Both were as always very friendly, with huge smiles, and gave me a pleasant welcome. It is always a pleasure to visit the Martlets, especially being served by these lovely and wonderful guys & their amazing customer service! Thank you, I'll will be back!

Finished work yesterday and decided I didn’t want to go home and cook, so rang the pub and see if they had any space, spoke to someone called “Sam” on the phone, he said there was some space and would be happy to have me, so that was that, off to the pub I went.Upon arrival, was greeted by a lad with a top knot, turns out it was the same fella who answered the phone to me and told me there was space, he showed me to a table and had a brief conversation with me, asked me how my day went and seemed really invested in the conversation which is rare these days (not everyone wants to talk ha) Anyway he plodded along to go seat some other guests that had arrived and walking back towards the bar he asked if everything was ok (even though he’d previously spoken to me 5 mins ago max) the guy is really polite and helpful!Went to the bar and the same guy served me, I was like sheesh this guy is everywhere he’s like a magician ha! Decided on my food and got a drink then went and sat down, food arrived promptly and it was delicious! Same came over half way through my meal to check if everything was on point and was happy with the food! “Perfect” is what I replied!Honestly this guy is a remarkable member of your team, well invested in his job and clearly loves being in the place and making sure the guests in the pub are well looked after! 10/10 would visit again! 10/10 would recommend Sam!

My partner booked in advance and put on the booking that one of the guests is allergic to milk, tree nuts and peanuts, we believe it is only fair to give advance notice. Upon arriving we were told about the app and tablet for allergies but unfortunately the app was not functioning correctly, so it was not possible to order this way. I went up to the bar to order my meal I explained that I anaphylaxis and told the gentleman what I was allergic to, he made a note on the till but he also went to the kitchen to make sure that order was acknowledged for allergies. The chef came out to the table and rechecked the order and went through everything with me and explained that he would be using different utensils. The food was served at by our waiter who came back to check everything was ok and if I was ok, another waitress checked on us and finally a lady from the kitchen came out to check about the vegan ice cream also came out later to check if I was ok.My anaphylaxis so severe that I must carry 2 EpiPen’s, 2x different antihistamines, steroids, and a Ventolin inhaler with me always.I thanked the staff and I also asked if the staff in the kitchen would be thanked for me, I explained if there was anything wrong I would know in 2 minutes so all the food was safe. The gentleman and lady at the bar asked questions about my condition which I was very happy to answer because more awareness of conditions like mine is educational to the staff, it also expands their learning curve and their willingness to understand. I am very aware people get nervous around people like myself because it is a huge responsibility to make sure I am safe while eating there and at the same time it is a risk for me to take the chance on a new establishment. I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff that made sure that my meal was safe and to all staff that made sure during my meal that I was ok, because staff like that helps to keep people like us with allergies safe and he done it with a respectful manner.Please pass on my gratitude,

This was our first visit and it was a great one. I'm not from here and I can honestly say this has been the best experience in a hungry horse. we was welcomed with highest standards. very clean and and Covid measures were in place and adhered to. food was amazing and loads of it I'm now so full, complements to the chef. I would like to thank sam, Top Knot and Chris and his steak knowledge. Highley recommend. 10/10

We called in here for lunch. Although not having booked we checked out the car park and very few cars there so went in. We were quite prepared to fill in for track and trace but the woman on the door was quite aggressive and reluctantly said we could come in on this occasion. We were seated and duly received our meals but felt that we were tolerated rather than welcomed as paying customers to the pub so will now take our custom elsewhere where we feel a valued customer.

The staff here are always so friendly, nothing is too much trouble. My children love the play area and we all love the promt service and decent pub grub

Such a shame been coming here a while the staff are always lovely and helpful polite We booked for last night was sat in the side by the bar area which didn’t want Put at a table with food all over the floor so moved to another . 2 guys drinking on next table I’m not a prude but every word was F**k and farting all the time not what you want when you come out for a meal Won’t be coming g back any more shame as local but spoilt the evening !!

Myself and my friend had a meal at the martlets on wed afternoon .we was met and greeted at the door buy the host that day we was told to sanitise our hands and test and trace buy the covid 19 guidelines. The waiters and host was brilliant with there information guiding to our table and be safe on the day .we ordered two meals and two sweets which we really enjoyed the meal .and the waitress arrived 3 min later to ask if our meals were OK. We was happy with my food and the service we was given for our meal .excellent food and service. We had a good meal that day .we decided to go for a breakfast the next day excellent food and service. Went in after staying at butlins for a week for a final family meal. Booked 2 separate tables due to covid restrictions (no issues there). Sat at our table and our orders were taken. Starters were absolutely beautiful, cooked perfectly. Our mains were a different story. 4 meals were cold, gammons burnt, undercooked egg and a missing pineapple ring. Nobody came to check on the food. We sat with full plates waiting for them to be cleared. Finally the lovely server named sam came back over to clear our plates and asked if everything was alright. He was very helpful in sorting our order and we received a refund on 3 meals. Desserts just a beautiful as the starters, just the mains were a let down. Overall very disappointed as we are greene king staff and know the 7 steps of service. As a chef for our company I know how the food should be cooked. Thank you to Sam for doing his best to make our experience the best you could.

We went to eat at the martlets after leaving butlins. We were seated straight away staff very friendly. Once seated I enquired about allergens as my 2 year old has a milk and soya allergy. I was taken to the bar to be told that the ipad which had the info on had a dead battery. I was asked to wait a few moments for it to charge. Straight away this gave me a bad feeling as clearly allergens was not a priority. My hungry family then waited for over 20 mins before we called another staff member over. He then returned to say they was still having problems and the manager would be over soon. Atleast another 10 mins went by before a lady arrived and handed me the guide. I get that with covid restrictions that shouldn't be used but leaving us waiting half an hour or more it would have just been easier to do that to begin with. I then had to take my time reading through and picking a suitable meal. My hungry child is now getting very agitated. We had one starter for the whole table and I explained I'm happy for everything to come up together. But we didn't get mains until that person had finished there starter. Then all the mains arrived minus my daughters. So now food at the table and she can't eat. It was not a enjoyable meal. We spent a long time in there just waiting around. Plus my daughter then had allergic reaction last night. Avoid if you struggle with allergens really let hungry horse down

I ordered a mixed grill and my friend ordered a hunters chicken. The chicken was slimey and When asked how it was cooked the “grilled” chicken was boiled in a bag, then microwaved and then grilled. So he said. No grill marks though. After asking for a refund on the chicken my mixed grill still handing arrived an hour later. Bare in mind we used the app to order and I ordered first. The steaks were chewy and over cooked and overall the food was pretty poor. Gutted as we left starving.

First time here. I had the mixed grill which was really well cooked and delicious! Only negative, my mum had the fish and chips and felt the fish had too much batter but that is personal preference.

Visited today for a meal with my wife what can I say was dreadful food the best thing about the visit was the drinks service was bad and food even worse will not be going back

What a lovely place. We actually came back 2 days in a row food was excellent for the price and te staff made the visit for us. Found a lot of restaurants not very family friendly but these guys went above and beyond. THanks to top knot Sam Chris page and jay for the excellent service.

Staff were very rude, especially the manager, got order wrong twice, not abiding government rules. A man called jamie, as he introduced himself was the only polite staff member from our visit today. After accusing us of moving tables staff then decided to talk badly about us behind our backs. All children complained that deserts were not nice either. Will not be coming here again.

I’m so glad our local is back open. We were so impressed when we came and ate. Staff explained new process when we went in. All staff were friendly and helpful.The food was amazing and lots of it.It’s just ashamed customers don’t understand the one way process.Can’t wait to come back again.

I was worried at first following the closedown due to covid-19 but I really didn’t need to be. There is a holding manager in the pub at the moment who made the whole experience amazing, I felt safe and I felt that everywhere and everything was clean. I love the new system in place. I shall be returning very soon. Thank you team Martlets and lovely to see all the old team and some new smiles throughout!!

Just been here for dinner with my family one of us had a chicken burger that was raw in the middle told the manager and was told it wasnt raw its a ready cooked product i told him i was a chef and i know raw chicken when i see it he then said where im i a chef witch i thought was really rude then just well what do u want me to do i just said want money back on the burger. He said he will then come and see us after 10 mins asked a member of staff to call tje manager to come see me then he sent out a member of staff called jamie who was very nice and showed us we did get a refund. But the manager i was very and should not be a manager.

Late afternoon meal. Thought we'd try the app to order, took a while to set up, but, worked great. It was quiet, so will be interesting to see how it works at a busy time. I had scampi which was very nice, but a little frustrated with the little paper pot of tartar sauce, got very "floppy". My wife had the mixed grill, she said it was good too

We come here regularly with the kids sometimes a few times a week! It's one of our favourite places as it's just a bargain and the kids love the ice creams! The staff are amazing Fiona and saffron always go the extra mile for us and we haven't had a single bad meal so far.

Caught up with some friends at the martlets pub,we had food which as always was great value for money!!! Staff very attentive especially a young man called Dan who kept popping back to make sure everything was up to standard. Love this pub it had atmosphere which do many lack these days

As we are spending 2 weeks in our caravan in bognor we thought we would take a trip to the martlets for dinner. The pub was very busy and we was lucky to be given a table. Dan was the first member off staff we spoke to as he was by the main door.adter asking for a table for 8 off us ( me and my family) he soon rushed off to see what he could do to accommodate us. After a minute or two he come back and told us he had sorted a table to accommodate us! ( This was fantastic!). He showed us to the table, this is where his customer stills come to light! After we had all seated he began to tell us about the app that they use. Telling us we wouldn't have to leave out seats to order drinks or even or meals!( Could you ask for much more)? We proceeded with using the app after down loading it ( doesn't take long at all). With every order we made it was Dan that served us. Absolutely amazing! We did have to wait for around 20 minutes for our food, but considering how busy the pub was that was understanding, once the food come out it was absolutely amazing!!! The new menu and choices are idea for a family like mine, we will definitely be coming back and also booked for mother's Day..... Thank you to the martlets and a big thank you to Dan who cared for us all the way throughout

We were in Bognor for a few days and went into the Martlets for meals. The staff were excellent, there was a good selection of food all of which was good value for money.

I’m a big fan of Hungry Horse as it’s our go to pub when we are at home so we thought we would try this one. Did not disappoint. We tried two new dishes, chicken kebab and the chicken New Yorker pizza, both lovely. Nice staff.

Be careful ordering from the app, we ordered 2 meals tonight, plus 2 diet cooks and 2 wines, the drinks arrived, 2 cokes but only one wine. When we queried it we were told there was only one glass ordered. My husband then went on the app to order another glass, before getting confirmation that in fact he had ordered 2 glasses in the first place. My husband spoke to the member of staff who said she would get the manager to authorise a refund for the extra wine we had then ordered. We finished our meal, and ordered a sweet but I then asked the staff member about the refund. She replied I have no idea where the manager is and I can't authorise a refund. I ended up saying well if I cant have a refund i will have the wine. Be very careful when using the app.

Not sure about food. Came to have a munch and ordered from the phone. It hasn’t arrived yet but it’s only been 20 minutes. However, I went to the bar and have waited 15 minutes to be served. Could have ordered from the app but it wouldn’t let me. The point of all this is the fact that had they employed just one more person behind the bar none of us would have waited so long

Been coming here at least once a week with a friend staff lovely and couldn’t be more helpful tonight went with friend orders meal at food till ok went back to order pudding one guy on bar was busy no other staff. Stood by food till for 10 Minutes nothing was said then land lord came out I asked if any one serving he said abruptly “no I’ve just shut that till “ I said oh the other guy could have said I’ve been stood here for 10mins he walked Over to drinks bar never said oh I’ll help you until I walked over Bit taken aback how off hand the way he spoke to me put me off going back now shame as local but need to speak to people with but more respect

We attended the martlets last night about 18 of us and had a couple of drinks and everyone had food and some desert.But as I was getting my food along with my girlfriends there was something missing from the meal it only being baked beans, so I asked for them and as I asked for them the women that was serving us said “it’s not on there” and I replied “it defiantly it is I’ll show you on the app” and as I went to do that I got shut down with a loud “it don’t say it on there mate” and the women was constantly starring me out for the whole evening which made everyone feel uncomfortable. But on the other had the ladies colleague josh was really helpful and nice which continue to serve us for the rest of the evening whilst the other lady slacked off and didn’t help him out at all.

just enjoyed a great evening at the martlets for a family reunion . the food was great. I had the slizzling steak which was amazing and the staff where very friendly and attentive . will definitely return next time we're in Bognor.

Arranged to meet friends at the Marlets for a birthday celebration. Never been before but was recommended to me by a family friend. On entry was greeted warmly by the barman, Dan, and shown to our table straight away. Service was excellent, as was the food, staff extremely helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend a visit.

We were out with friends and stopped off for a quick drink,we were greeted by Dan who was very friendly,we weren't looking to eat but by the time we had finished chatting Dan had convinced us to take a look at the menu, we were very impressed with the prices so ordered.....very nice food competitive prices, we shall come again !!!!

we came here for our family Christmas get together and we couldn't fault it . The staff were really friendly . There were 10 of us and we all enjoyed our meals . The Roast turkey I had was perfect.we have already booked to come back for my daughter in laws birthday in January .

The service and staff are great since it became The Hungry Horse, great meal with family in October, booked Christmas meal for 13th Dec. with family great service from Fii, meal was hot and well presented, went again on Sat. 28th Dec. with friends, and again staff were very friendly and helpful and food was delicious and very hot. Only downside is they don't do the Golden Oldies menu at weekends, and meals are on the large size for us smaller eaters.

The food was nice and hot. Good value for money. The only things that were noit so good was no vegan spread instead butter was bought out., and the steaks came out after tghe other meals so they had to wait quite a milke. Steaks should have been cooked first.Service was very good and thge layout of the table was excellent.

We were served by a lovely gentlemen behind the bar called Jamie amazing service all night! We went up to the bar to buy drinks and was also welcomed by 2 members of staff Saffron and Sam smells, who done an amazing job very quick service Especially with the amount of staff.. would defiantly recommend

After a very emotional trip to Bognor from Solihull, we were made most welcome by staff at Martlets Hungry Horse. Namely DAN AND FI. They were so accommodating and sympathetic to our situation. Nothing was too much trouble. The pre booked meal was yummy and hot and served by smiling, polite staff. We will definitely eat there again on our next trip. Thanks guys

Had a lovely meal, with family. Food was hot and delicious. Went on a Thursday so got a free pud. Would go again

Whilst having to wait half an hour at the bar for a drink, which I find terrible, then sitting down for our Christmas get together ordered our food, I ordered gammon egg and chips, the chips peas were not even warm, gammon cremated, my friend fish and chips, were the exact same, oil oozing all over the plate from the fish. We soon complained and waited 20 min for ours to come back out, the lady said can you check your dinners, we could not believe it was the exact same as it came out the first time! She said the chips had just came out the frier! So I handed her a chip! Which she had agreed was still cold, and then made the excuse of the wind from the door must have cooled the chips down!! The door was opposite our table! I’ve never heard such a bad excuse, so asked to see the manager! Well you think a manager would have some customer service skills!! Rude, grumpy! And of all things not even a apology!!! His words were “so what do u want me to do about it” Discusting service, awful cold food!! And ruined our get together for Xmas! Shall never return!!

This was the first time we'd been to this pub, and I'm afraid it will be the last. I know the food and drink are very reasonably priced, but good manners cost nothing. The man at the bar was grumpy, terse and totally unwelcoming - the concept of customer service has clearly passed him by. It's a shame as we'd like to eat here more often, but not with the Basil Fawlty of Bognor at the bar.

This Hungry Horse 'The Martlets' has a lovely atmosphere, good staff & a good chef. We aren't local but always call in here when we are in this area, and have never been disappointed. Occasionally you may have to wait for a table during busy periods such as holiday periods, but definitely not for long. Whether going by ourselves, with friends, or with our extended family, we have never had any complaints. Well worth a trip.
