Sadly not the experience we hoped for with our friends who had come up from Hampshire and we had journeyed 40 minute from home .. We have been to The Marquis many times over the years ...We.arrived at 1 07pm for lunch .. And waited some time for our lunch even though only 2 other tables occupied ... and then we were told before we had barely finished our mains the pub wasnt open all day and we would have to be out by 2.30pm it was 2.20pm by then which meant no time for pud or coffee. If you're only open for 2 hours for lunch perhaps suggest to customers they book for 12.30pm to give enough time to eat ..food was lovely but maybe a rethink on timings and customer service ?

I can't recommend this pub highly enough. From the minute we stepped through the door to the minute we left, the entire experience was faultless. The food was well-presented and utterly delicious....served up nice and hot. The staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and so warm and friendly, and for me, this is a vitally important factor when dining out. The gardens were immaculate and there was plenty of car parking. If you haven't visited yet, be sure to make a booking.....you won't be disappointed!

From greeting to farewell, absolutely superb. I tried all 3 ales and Dorset Pale on keg over 3 visits this weekend, all perfectly kept and served. I had 2 meals over the weekend, both were beautifully presented and tasted amazing . The liver and bacon was fabulous and they even served my dog a portion! Thank you to every single member of staff, and other customers, who made us so welcome. Excellent.

We arrived after walking at this pub at 1.35 , having no idea what time they closed . We were told in a sturn voice “ you have 15 mins “ for food . The food was ordered and was ok, but then at 2 the lights were turned off behind the bar without asking if we wanted anything else . We left at 2.25 shouted goodbye but no one was there to reply . I totally get they wanted to close but costs nothing to be civil .

Another visit during our annual holiday to Burton Bradstock. For new visitors yes the lanes are narrow and overgrown with limited passing spaces but once you are there its an absolutely brilliant eatery and watering hole. Sharon and Carly were in the restaurant this evening and it was full.My wife cannot have any Gluten in her food and they will adapt the menu to suit all allergies and diets. We had the banana squash soup with GF bread and i had chilli king prawns.Main courses shoulder of lamb and medallions of venison.Deserts were rhubarb and custard pavlova and profiteroles(3).All the food was delicious and piping hot where needed. The staff were their usual cheerful chatty selves. The car park is all on the flat. There are clean toilets again with wheelchair access. We have been coming here for years and can guarantee very good food and service.Friends buy us vouchers as xmas presents as they know we love it here.

We have just returned from a 3 night Stay at the Marquis Of Lorne. We travelled as 9 adults & reserved 5 rooms for the duration of our stay. We were attending a family wedding nearby. I have nothing but praise for the most wonderful welcome we received from Tracy & her amazing team… We felt so at home within the establishment & nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful, quaint, spotlessly clean rooms awaited us. Lovely thoughtful touches within our rooms & fresh milk for teas & coffees always a bonus!! Our first dinner was a complete winner, fresh produce, beautifully presented & a fantastic selection of culinary delights on the menu…. The bar is well stocked too! Wedding morning - we came down for our first breakfast another absolute delight…. Again an impressive breakfast table awaited… 9 guests, all with varying egg requests, again no trouble. From the freshest fruit salad with Greek yoghurt & local honey to a grand full English, or any combination of cooked choices, we were set up for the day. One mention of a iron from the party & bless Tracy up she pops with iron & board all set up for us - no bother. I could wax lyrical for much longer… a true gem, total jewel in the crown in stunning Nettlecombe. You could not be disappointed. My thanks again for looking after us so well. It was chosen as it was somewhere between us.The journey in from the East is a bit hairy in places and for a few miles on a windy, up and down road with turf growing down the middle and mud all over the place. Not for the faint hearted! However, it was worth the trip, as the food was very good. My friend had a crab sandwich, which came with lots of trimmings, and I couldn't resist having the liver and bacon, which was really nice. We finished off with syrup sponges and custard, which were also good, with plenty of custard in a separate jug.Friendly staff, good beer, very good food. What more could you ask for?

Went yesterday for Sunday lunch with my mother and her friend, they chose the roast lamb and I had the roast beef. My beef was fine not the tastiest I have ever had but fine. The mothers struggled with their lamb it was very tough and fatty too. I suggested they sent it back but would not. Still we told the waitress and she apologised, I said I hope she told the chef, which she said she had. But it was still being sent out to other diners!! We had desserts, the summer pudding was good according to the mother’s and I had the treacle sponge, which was very tasty but suggest to the chef to put it in the microwave for LESS TIME it had lost its sponge texture dried out and was a bit hard on one side, which happens when over heated using the microwave. Have been several times to this pub over the years, not such a friendly welcoming experience as before and this time it didn’t live up to its reputation.

The food was over cooked and reheated by the look of it and the taste of it side salad looked like it has been out of the fridge awhile and put together before hand - defiantly not fresh. We enjoyed a fabulous meal on 27th January 2018 to celebrate our daughters 15th birthday. The landlady was very welcoming and there was a birthday card waiting on the table. The food was of an extremely high standard and all the plates were empty - what more can you say! The choice of desserts made making a decision tricky and I mean this in a good way, however, we were not disappointed. Highly recommended

Lovely food and friendly people run the pub. We loved the evening of Carols and the impromptu singalong

My wife and I visited on what we thought would be a quiet Monday evening and were pleasantly surprised to see the pub lively and buzzing.

Always come here when on holiday in Dorset.Lovely old Palmers pub with great staff,Sharon and Tracy were on last night.Cheerful and chatty and well knowledged of the extensive menu and the beverages(beer, wine, spirits etc).As i have said there is an extensive menu that you can have in the bar or in the restaurant. At least 10 starters and the same for main courses, catering for meat eaters, fish and vegetarians. The food is all prepared fresh especially the pot bread. We had the crab mayonnaiise to start followed by the fllets(2) of sea bass and then the dorset apple cake.It was all beautifully cooked and presented.Nice to talk to the staff about any changes since our last visit.Lots of people in the bar but that can get noisy as it is a very popular place,They have accomodation and i think limited disabled access.Clean toilets and a large car park. Also a childrens play area and outdoor seating. We will return again next week.

We stayed overnight and dined in the restaurant. A impressively wide menu, all freshly cooked and a good dining experience. We would go again, we mentioned it to friends we were visiting who had also dined there and reported the same good experience.

Sunday lunch was not very good. Waiter ate food and drank at the bar constantly. Emptied bins and didn't wash his hands. Chef sat at the bar in between orders. Food arrived and was tasteless, meat tough and when asked for cranberry sauce the waiter arrived with a plastic tub to serve it!

Excellent food, friendly staff, always willing to go the extra mile. This is one of the happiest places I know to have breakfast, lunch or just gorgeous cake

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support

Oh dear, we must have hit a bad day. We had chosen Brassica for a family get together lunch as we had read so many rave reviews. Three of us chose the pasta based autumn special, while the fourth wanted only a salad. The paste was very undercooked, and I do know the difference between al dente and being hardly able to get a fork into it and the whole dish tasting of raw flour. We pointed out the problem and the plates were returned to the kitchen. When they came back to the table the food was hotter but the pasta remained unchanged. One of the group was so hungry she ate it anyway, but the other two found it inedible. The salad was quite nice, but at £12 for a small bowl of dressed leaves with slices of orange and a few walnuts I thought it overpriced. The staff were very good and some money was taken off the bill for the uneaten food, but that was hardly the point, we had gone expecting a lovely lunch on one of the rare times we could all be together and instead left still hungry and deeply disappointed
