Great pub in a lovely village. We were really pleasantly surprised by its Modern interior. Excellent menu and food was delish. We couldn't fault it at all Very tasty Staff all very friendly. Landlady was chatty.

Well the meal tonight of Dover Sole with new potatoes pan fried in butter with carrots, broccoli and a portion of great chips was superb. Everything was piping hot 🔥 and extremely tasty. Thank you.

We were staying in Ipstones for the weekend and the MoG came highly recommended. We booked for Sunday Lunch and we were not disappointed. Classic Sunday lunch with a modern feel. The nut roast was enjoyed by our veggie family member whist 2 others enjoyed the seafood platter. Lovely choice of homemade desserts. All delicious.

We went for dinner on a Sunday to celebrate my mother in law’s birthday. The food tasted amazing, it was presented beautifully and the portion size was perfect. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. We would definitely recommend it.

We went for Sunday Dinner with a friend. The service was absolutely perfect, polite professional and caring. There were 3 choices of a traditional Sunday dinners with 4 more meals to chose from if required. We chose 3 starters, all well presented and of great quality and generous proportion, they all tasted excellent. The main courses were again well presented and of generous proportion containing class 1st class meat and vegetables which also tasted excellent. We washed the meals down with good quality red and white wine and finished it all off with a desert and coffee. The cost was great value for money. We will be back!!

From start to finish this is an excellent venue for a Sunday lunch. Great building - lots of history in there no doubt. The place has been recently refurbished and offers a spacious and smart interior. Lots of sitting room and the restaurant is very cosy. We had Sunday lunch. I had beef - the meat was of excellent quality and the accompanying vegetables were cooked to perfection and steaming hot. Desserts included cheese cake and Bakewell tart. Cooked again to perfection and presented with a choice of cream. Ice cream or custard. Again - delightful. I really can’t recommend this place enough - I’ve had my fair share of Sunday lunches in my time - and this was the best I’ve had for a long long time. You won’t regret a visit here.

From the moment we walked in the staff couldn’t have been any more welcoming.They have a good selection of real ales and lagers also a good set of wines.The food menu caters for all tastes and food quality was excellent.cant wait to visit again

We went as a family of 5, with an older relative who has limited mobility for a Sunday lunch. The staff, especially Robert, were extremely welcoming and accommodating to our needs. The food was delicious, we all had a roast (3 beef, 2 veggies a nut roast) and it was all prepared to a high standard, and lots of care and attention had gone into the presentation. Portion sizes were generous for the price. Four of us had desserts - all delicious, but the Biscoff cheesecake was the highlight!! We will definitely go back!!

This local village pub is at the heart of our vilage serving great local food for many years, outstanding quality and company. Richard the past landlord and host passed away earlier this year leaving most of us saddened after many years' service to the Village. Visited Sunday lunchtime 9th July for the carvery. Everything was perfect and tasted delicious. Beef was melt in the mouth, cauli cheese was flavoursome, roasties were very nice. It was faultless and it's also help yourself to veg which is great for big eaters! My vegetarian partner said her nut roast meal was fab too. We are regular customers, but today wase exceptional and we want to ell evrybody!!!!

Great burger but the chips on our meals looked like they'd been refried since lunch. Shared with the staff how greasy, soft and dark brown they were. I got 3 apologies but no offer to do anything about them. I'll think twice about booking a table again for early evening. Shame.

The food is really great good pub food. The Sunday carvery is the best around its always busy so make sure you book a table. The manager is a great host. We'll worth a visit.

We had spotted this eatery on social media and seen steak nights were Tuesday and Wednesday 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £32 and decided to book a table during our holidays. Because of the popularity of steak night we couldn't get a table until 730pm on the Tuesday. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and shown to the table. The atmosphere was friendly and the wood burner was roaring. We chose tbone steaks with just a £2 surcharge and were not disappointed. Wow. They were huge and all cooked individually to our personal preference which we'd never all experienced before as usually other steaks at other places were overdone. The chips were lovely and golden and the homemade onion rings were huge. The bottle of wine in the deal was just expected to be a cheap bottle of plonk but amazingly it was googled at £10 and was delicious 😋. I have to give 10 out of 10. Infact as we were staying on our holidays for a fortnight me and my Dad visited for steak night the following Tuesday. We had prawn cocktail starters which were delicious and yes again the t-bones lol. Don't miss out on having a meal here but book to avoid disappointment.

It’s not often I write reviews about food. Went here on 15th February for a steak night special for the umpteenth time. Food is wonderful, fillet and t bone steak were cooked to perfection. One of my favourites at a reasonable price. Please try it if you are in the area and if not make the effort to get there. You won’t be disappointed.

Booked a table over a week ago and just phoned 29th Nov, to pre order our meals for Fri 3rd Dec. 2 people wanted Christmas menu and 2 wanted normal. Lady explained that all must have Christmas menu or none. Flabbergasted. Media tell us that hospitality sector is struggling and yet here we have a venue willing to turn away business on Friday. Stayed in the village for a short break and booked a table in Tuesday steak night having read great reviews. Pub had a good atmosphere plenty of locals - service slightly slow I had to chase up to order was told to “wait a few minutes.” Food to be fair was excellent . We were staying in near by Bradnop and had The Marquis of Granby recommended, by the owners of our accommodation. We decided to give it a try Thursday evening and so glad we did. I chose a T- bone steak and my partner opted for ribeye. These steaks were beautifully cooked and so tender. They came with all the trimmings, mushrooms, tomatoes, onion rings and chips all cooked to perfection and so very reasonably priced, even cheaper had it been steak night. We were both so impressed with the quality of the meal and the overall price of the food as well as the drinks that we decided to return today (Saturday) before travelling home. This time we both opted for the burger with beef chilli topping and again it was cooked to perfection. Just wish we had a pub like this closer to home, think we’d dine out most nights. The staff are very friendly and our dog was made very welcome. Highly recommend.

Good food, lots of choice, friendly and helpful service. We had vegan curry, fish and chips, mixed grill and cod in a sauce, plus shared a couple of starters - it all tasted delicious plus nobody likely to remain hungry after it.

Managed to get a late booking for 3 people. We was welcomed straight away and paid special attention to my daughter.For starters I ordered the Garlic Mushrooms and my wife the Garlic Prawns and were very tasteful without the garlic being too strong.My wife had Stake Ale pie (Monday night is Pie Night) and she really enjoyed it. She didn't manage to eat it all.as she was stuffed. I had the Mix Grill and I'd never seen anything like it in my life. As soon as the dish arrived I realised my eyes were bigger than my belly.My daughter had sausage and chips followed by ice cream of very generous portions.Highly recommend the restaurant and real value for money.If I lived local this would definitely be visited regularly.Thank You.

Myself and my husband went to Ipstones for a night away and called in at The Marquis for lunch. I have to say it was one of the best pub lunches we have ever had, the portions were massive and the homemade chips were divine!! Everything tasted really fresh and my food was piping hot, you could tell it had been made to order from scratch. We sat in the beer garden which is lovely and the man who served us (sorry forgot to get his name but he was the owner's dad) was really lovely and friendly. Highly recommend and would definitely go back if we stayed in Ipstones again.

Fish Friday!!! £6.50 for beautiful, homemade, well presented and huge portion. Great service especially with all of the extra rules right now.All of the food coming past us looked great and all steaming so obviously very fresh. Saw lots of people collecting take aways too. We will definitely be back

During the government lockdowns The Marquis Of Granny have offered a takeaway service on selected days. The best takeaway for miles around. Really tasty and great value for money. Steak and ale pie is brilliant.

Having deposited an embarrassing number of balls in the water hazards at Whiston golf course, we needed cheering up. The Marquis did this. Ridiculously good value Sunday lunch with absurd quantities of vegetables, a home made yorkshire, onion sauce and gravy, made us forget that quite a few of our newly acquired golf balls will only be mis-hit once in their lifetimes, facing eternity at the bottom of a submerged quarry.Very friendly staff. We noted a very healthy takeaway trade, also. A gem.

Came after a long day at Alton Towers, we arrived earlier than our booking but were told this wasn't a problem and were shown to our table right away. Staff were really friendly, and the food was lovely (and in massive portions!). Great place to refuel!

Lovely meal of fresh fish in a light crispy batter, with perfect chips and the freshest side salad ever. The pot of tea I asked for was a perfect accompaniment. A recent visit to steak night lots to choose from and choice of veg or salad, potatoes - new potatoes,chips or mash and of course the fantastic onion rings. The waiter friendly and efficient the freshly cooked food piping hot, well presented and the steaks superbly cooked to our tastes and almost melted in your mouth. along with the bottle of wine, included in the price for two steak meals real value for money. We finished with puddings as with the steaks generous portions along with cream and ice cream a superb finish to a delicious meal. I have visited the UK several times over the past couple of years and food served generally is very hit and miss. Exceptions do occur and has with this superb eating establishment. Boy it's good and every time, having never once been disappointed during the 10 or more times eaten there. Dont be fooled by the lack of character inside, just settle back and enjoy the scrumptious steaks, or towering burgers and many other fine food options. The staff are very friendly and it's all most efficient!

on the whole nice locals, apart from the regulars who detest anyone who is ex forces once they know who are the make you feel un welcome its like going to the pub on the moors dont mention the beast. they feel like you are not welcome at all.if your not a farmer or a local dont bother. Took the wife and bin lids for an early Saturday evening meal, haven't been here in ages. The food was absolutely delicious, piping hot, fresh and really generous portions. We had the home made pie which would put 'pukka' out of business, the children's meals were home cooked and not processed deep fat fried nonsense. Highly recommend

My boyfriend and I visited on 11th June, and had hunters chicken and beef bourguignon. Both were beautifully cooked and we each had awesome home cooked chips, a lovely fresh salad and good selection of veg with the mains. The Best Sunday Lunch in Staffordshire. Carvery Huge choice of vegetables, included roasted. Beef, Lamb, Turkey, sausage meat, stuffing and Yorkshire Pudding. Excellent gravy and all the sauces. £8.50 Fantastic, well worth the drive up the hills. I would advise to go early.

Following an overnight stay in a local Airbnb, our hosts recommended the Marquis of Granby and what a recommendation it was. The food was amazing... my steak was cooked to absolute perfection and the spuds and veg were plentiful and tasty. My boyfriends mixed grill was beyond what could be called a generous serving. It was a lovely setting and the staff were friendly and efficient without being overbearing. Perfect. I wish I lived down the road.

We got recommended this pub because of the lovely food. When we arrived there was no clear way of knowing where and who to ask about a table. When we finally got a table and ordered food it came very quick. When eating our food we noticed the steak was slightly burnt even though we asked for it medium rare.

We visited on Wednesday night, late evening after checking into a B&B; nearby. I rang ahead and was told they had just finished serving food but explaining we had just arrived and were hoping to be there in five minutes, they spoke to the kitchen and agreed to still serve us.

Here for a birthday with some of the family, great service and what a menu. A real difficult choice as so much on offer. The food freshly prepared looked and tasted delicious. Never been disappointed and all around the table were delighted with their choice of food.

Seems to be going through a bit of a refurb at the moment, but even so the staff seemed a bit frosty (very unlike other pubs we had visited in the area). Food was ok but again not great.

Unfortunately it wasnt as good a visit as our previous one. The bar is being refurbished so they only had the fish menu on. If you didnt like fish unlucky ! Someone should have rung to warn us. We were in the restaurant bit but it doesnt lend itself to comfortable eating and we asked for the music to be turned down. Also, if you go to the bar, the locals sit around it and it makes life difficult to get served. Nothing against sitting there but an area to get served is needed.

This is our second visit here and just like the first it was delicious. The meat was lovely and tender and there were so many veggies to choose from and all cooked beautifully. Eceryone also enjoyed their desserts very much. The staff are friendly and the service is good. We shall go again soon.

Lively buzzing atmosphere, busy and efficient. Two had the 2 for £30 and chose T Bone steaks with bottle of wine. others had salmon. All the meals were excellent, service too. We rarely go for desserts but did on this occasion. When you are somewhere good like this you are far more likely to span the whole evening and go for the works!

As The Fox and Goose has decided not to serve food on Tuesdays we went to The Marquis instead on the recommendation of Nina at Shawgate Farm B&B.; We had a great welcome. Good selection of real ales and other drinks. Our meal was superb - two meals and a bottle of good wine for £30 as a Tuesday grill special. The food was really well cooked and the portions were huge. My steak was first class and my wife's chicken was also excellent. Well cooked and presented fresh vegetables. Lovely desserts and fantastic service. This is what a local pub should be like. Make sure you phone up to book as it gets busy.

5 of us have Just been for the Father in laws 70th Birthday.

This is a great place to eat, they serve a delicious cavary. We had a choice of 3 meats plus stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and sausage. There was almost all the veggies you can name to chose from also and they were cooked perfectly and you could help yourself to as much as you wanted. There was plenty of gravy and all the sauces you needed. The desserts were just yummy. Four of our party had the Apple and Blackberry crumble and we had the Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake and the Sticky Salted Caramel Cake with plenty of custard and i have to say mine was the best.

Sunday lunch carvery brilliant all fresh vegatables and large a selection to choose from, and they are not frightened to put meat on your plate. Food is piping hot and coupled with great staff what more do you need.

Our family group of 10 were told we had to be seated by 6pm as it was due to packed. We arrived on time and it was empty (less 2 men at the bar). It was still empty when we left. In between, we ate a range of meals. The lasagne and chicken curry was good, the burgers were large and reportedly tasty, the service was quite friendly. The menu was simple, short and based around pub grub normals. Unfortunately, the majority of dishes came with chips - that were not cooked. We reported this but the waitress simply said ‘I’ll let the chef know’ and it was clear that meant ‘I could not care less’. We got the message that they were not interested......you eat what you get given here - hence we would not return. From the outside it looks like a quaint village pub, on the inside it is characterless. Shame.

We visited for dinner on Friday based on the trip advisor reviews. The pub was largely empty but we were told that a party of 12 were due to arrive so we could either eat from the fish and chip menu (but we’d have to eat right away) or wait until after they’d eaten (which is understandable) so we decided to order from the fish and chip menu. The portions were generous and to be fair it was very tasty.

This pub is located within a lovely old building and has been internally renovated in a modern style. 6 of us visited on a Saturday night and although not busy at first it filled up as the evening went on. Nice welcome from a friendly barmaid led on to good beers and food. According to one of our party the Pie was the best he'd had in a long time! The rest of us enjoyed our main courses but the strange thing was that, in this pub, we weren't offered puds. Could have missed a trick there!

Other pubs take note- this is how it should be done. We went with friends for an evening meal. The atmosphere was great, there was a darts match in the bar area and although it was busy we were served straight away at the bar. We ate in an area away from the action. It was clean, well lit and loved the background music. As the prices are very reasonable two of us had T-bone steak for the first time in years. They were cooked exactly as requested and as others have pointed out, the portions were very generous. The waiter was friendly and efficient. OK there's no carpark but plenty of roadside parking in the village. Can't imagine they get complaints as it really is a fantastic local amenity. Ironically last week we ate at a nearby pub in a village across the A523 and were disappointed to say the least. Our worst ever review was for another village pub who have also chosen to stamp out any vestige of the traditional local. They do so at their own peril.
