Superb pub. In our eyes one of the best in the area. The outside space is a real surprise. Vast and beautifully arranged. Good C-19 policies in operation. All the staff were welcoming and friendly especially Chrissy who our two 4yr old boys took a shine too.Food was lovely too. Great portion sizes on children’s meal. Our little team will be back :)

We were so disappointed by our first meal out in ages. You have to use an app to order, which you must download, register email and allow to access location and photos to work. This adds 10 mins to the time waiting for food whilst you download & sign up. That’s a pain because the food took more than 45 mins to arrive from ordering (just mains for 5 people, was not close to full when we arrived). The food was edible but not great. Fish & chips with stodgy batter and very little flavour, pie so soggy and drowned in gravy that we couldn’t recognise it was a pie and thought the order was mixed up! Fries were somehow both rubbery and hard. Understandably the set up is to ensure maximum table space outside but there’s not much feeling of being outside because of that. On a cooler day the only tables worth having are under the canopies. Our table (and most others) had an umbrella that was not anchored so kept blowing over onto the table. We’d so looked forward to the experience of eating our with family again, but in the end we couldn’t wait to just finish our food and leave. Such a shame.

Visited the Marlborough on Sunday with my partner for drinks and food. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco via the App but it failed to arrive. We followed up after some time only to be told that it was unavailable and had to order a slightly more expensive bottle. The thought had crossed our minds that they might do a price match considering the long wait and non-communication, but none was offered. The Prosecco then arrived without glasses whereby we were asked by the server “if we needed glasses with that?” (he wasn’t joking!!!). We put this service down to the mostly young and inexperienced staff that clearly didn’t know what they were doing. We ordered the roast dinners and my beef roast was almost cold so I asked for it to be reheated. A new one was provided but that was almost as cold. At that stage I gave up. We ordered the bill and got the wrong one! Is this a joke? Needless to say we won’t be back.

Upon arrival for our 11am booking, we were greeted by by what can only be described as an incredibly un-enthusiastic young lady who had the social skills of a feral cat. Greeting this young lady with good morning, I was ignored, to which she came back with “do you have a booking”, so staying polite I expressed that we had booked, she managed to find the booking on the system and then led us away to the garden area, this was one of the most painful journeys I have ever been on, leading us round every single empty table in the garden to finally arrive at table 106, which she then came out with “this is the table you reserved”. Picture the scene, it’s raining/drizzle, so of course ideally we would like to be under cover, however after taking us on a tour of Richmond hill she seats us at the only table in the pub with no umbrella/cover, so I politely reply “no we did not book this table specifically, there is not a soul in here and there are circa another 60 tables that we could sit at that all have some form of cover, is that at all possible to sit at one of those that is dry and undercover” the lady replies “I’m not to sure”. We finally get to a table that has cover following a painful conversation. The lady then tells us there is an app we can use to order, kitchen is not open until 12, you can order drinks now though, then decides to walk off before I can even ask what the app is called. After a couple minutes of deliberation my partner and I decide we feel very unwelcome and are happy to leave, so we get up and walk back through the pub to leave, we walk past the chefs, what I believe is the manager of the pub sat with his child and wife on the laptop, the same lady that seated us, a barman and a lady sat at the front door looking to see people in, not one says a word to us, not “is everything ok?” “Oh why are you leaving” absolutely nothing, oblivious to the world as the lady who seated us is now talking about what she had for breakfast with her colleague ... honestly unbelievable, never been anywhere like it, after the pandemic you’d think these people would be cherishing every single customer, yet you can even walk past the manager of the pub without him saying “morning”, however he did obviously choose to employ the lady who seated us so what do you expect. Please guys, avoid this place unless you want to be disappointed by what can only be described as a BTEC social club with not a drop of experience in the hospitality industry between 8 members of staff. Visited with friends on a Saturday late afternoon. Queue outside pub to check in. When shown to the table we were informed that food is taking an hour to be served so we ordered straight away using the app, simple enough. Drinks took ages to arrive. Behind us was group of 6 very drunk girls that were obviously with another group of 6 girls at a table next to them. They were coming and going to the ladies toilet, no masks and we notice no one appeared to wear a mask when walking about. Food was good and hot when it arrived. The ladies toilets were filthy, very few had toilet paper and only 1 tap was working out of 6 basins. Sanitizers were empty. Upon leaving 1 of the very drunk girls nearly fell down the stairs. They were obviously exempt from the 2 hour rule at the table because they were only just eating when we left after our limited 2 hour rule at the table. I mentioned toilets to a member of staff who just said ok. Won’t be visiting again until things die down, it’s way too busy for us.

The garden is lovely, the staff are helpful, but the food just isn’t great. We have been twice since lockdown ended. First time we got complimentary drinks because our food took so long to get to us. It was a roast and wasn’t warm when we got it. Second time we got BLT’s for me and my sons. The chips were cold, the bread barely toasted and very average. My partner had to send his Sausage and champ back because the champ was inedible. He then got chips, but £14 for chips and sausages is not really worth it. They need to take a look at how their kitchen is operating.

The staff then advised those that asked that they had run out of gas so NONE of the heaters would be turned on!! We left early.....they have known for months what date they needed the heaters to be working from. If they couldn’t use the heaters, why not let customers know in advance or supply blankets as a contingency? A case of putting profits before customer comfort & we were so annoyed, as were many others sat in the freezing cold!! Wont be going back until the height of summer comes!! So disappointed as it was our 1st booking for outdoor eating since lockdown eased

My mother has an extremely deadly nut allergy. So, she asked the waiter if the lemon tart had any nuts. He went to the kitchen to ask the chef if it did. He came back and told us that there were NO nuts. She ordered it. Then, she asked a SECOND time that there were no nuts of ANY kind, since she is allergic to ALL nuts. The waiter went back to the kitchen and confirmed that there weren't ANY KIND OF NUTS in the tart. The tart finally arrived, and we immediately noticed, sprinkled all over the tart, something that looked like crushed pistachio nuts. We showed the waiter these and asked if they were pistachios. He went to the kitchen, came back, and told us that they WEREN'T PISTACHIOS. We were relieved, but still confused as to what they were, if they weren't pistachios. So we asked the waiter what they were. He went back to the kitchen for the FOURTH TIME, came back and told us that they WERE PISTACHIOS. WE ASKED FOUR TIMES IF THE TART HAD NUTS AND WE WERE TOLD THREE OF THOSE TIMES THAT IT HAD NO NUTS. My mother would have DIED. I am disgusted by this. In addition, my mother specifically asked for her burger to be served well done and it was completely red on the inside. AND there was a hair in my rhubarb & apple crumble. Please do not go to this restaurant.

Booked online weeks before our visit. We were sat in a freezing cold area and after a very long wait to give our order we were told that the veggie roast was not available, leaving only one veggie option on the menu - a plant burger. The waitress had to ask us to repeat our order a number of times as she kept getting it wrong. We ordered a starter to share as we had already waited for so long, and after 2 minutes the limpest salad I had ever seen arrived. It had clearly just been chucked on a plate without any thought. After another 30 mins, our food arrived - the veggie burger was undercooked and a meal my friend ordered was again accompanied by limp, old lettuce. They were clearly understaffed but the service was just absolutely awful, this was the worst pub I've visited in a very long time.We were asked at the end whether we'd enjoyed everything and were told that the pub has recently been taken over, but honestly, the way everything was handled was an absolute joke. It's also incredibly overpriced. Just a terrible, terrible pub.

Booked online well in advance. Arrived on time and was seated in a cold room. When we asked if we could order food was told he would have to check as they were running low on things. He never came back to me but his polite colleague seated us somewhere warmer, at least. After we’d been waiting half an hour someone finally came over to us and when we said we were ready to order food she told us the kitchen had closed 15 minutes earlier as they were so busy. So we came all the way out to Richmond for a meal we had booked two weeks prior only to be told they had closed the kitchen. Would not go back.

I love this pub, especially its stunning garden. That is the reason why I chose it to celebrate my special big 0 birthday with nine of my best pals and booked two tables well in advance. But how frustrating was to wait and wait for someone to serve our table and take our drinks order. We were a large and lively group, easy to notice by anyone waiting tables that evening. When our drinks and food orders were finally taken and they arrived to our table, we had to politely remind the staff to bring cutlery, plates and napkins. To our disappointment the bottle of prosecco was warm and when this was mentioned to the waiter the only solution offered to that was ice cubes (!). My friends loved the evening and we all had a good time, but I certainly expected more and will not consider this pub for a large group booking in the future.

I was deeply disappointed with our experience on Sunday 29th of August. Our roast was completely cold, with three minuscule potatoes. I have never before sent food back and felt bad to do so, yet this was really subpar for £17.00.Not only this, I felt the staff member that dealt with the issue was very dismissive and unapologetic, despite me being polite about the matter and just said 'oh, right, ok i'll take this off the bill for you'. I initially had to call someone over to notify them of the issue as there was no check backs. Following my food being taken away no staff cleared the other plates for the whole duration or checked to see if the rest was ok.We were then ignored when we asked for the bill and waited 25 mins before having to go up to the Bar to pay for the rest of our drinks and food. I have worked in hospitality for 8 years and I understand the pressures of busy service and complaints, yet this was really inadequate and I left feeling quite upset.

After reviewing many Sunday lunch menus online, we picked the Marlborough due to the Vegan roast it mentioned on the website which sounded lovely. We arrived and it was a completely different menu to what is currently online. They had a vegetarian roast but no vegan option- I then asked if there was a vegan option and was told no there isn’t. We also overheard the table next to us asking exactly same thing to ask why there was no vegan option. Vegetarians would eat the vegan option so I don’t understand why it just wouldn’t be vegan allowing both to have it. The only reason we came was for the roast so it was extremely disappointing. I opted for the burger which was really rubbish, there was no ‘burger’ or even anything that formed a patty, it was just shredded veg in a bun. It took over 20 mins for them to clear out starter plates, and took 2 hours all in for a starter and main. Pretty poor service overall.Wouldn’t return anytime soon until they up their game with vegan option and service. Plenty better places to go in Richmond.

We’ve been here before and had a really good experience. We decided to come today after a walk in the park. We hadn’t booked and were told the likelihood of getting a table was low because people would be ‘hanging on’ to watch England v Wales. After seeing quite a few people leave I enquired again and I felt we were grudgingly given a table with a warning that the food would take a while due to busy kitchen which was fine but it took around an hour between ordering and food arriving. Steak ordered medium was very very pink even after sending back but we did get a discount for this. It was extremely busy and I do have sympathy for all staff but there feels like a lack of management- toilets had variously lack of t paper, light, fixed seat. It just feels less ‘proper’ than it used to- I hope it’s better soon.

We came here after a walk around Richmond Park. We hadn't booked anywhere as we didn't know when we would finish our walk, obviously a risk on a Sunday. After not being able to get a table at the Roebuck, we tried here. At first, the server said there would be a two hour wait, however we did note that there was an empty table which was reserved from midday-2pm. It was 1.30pm at the time and we pointed out that they clearly weren't coming. So we were given the table! So a good tip - its definitely worth looking around the tables to see if there are any 'no-shows', and seeing if you can nab their table. We started with the bread and olives, a really good value sharing board (£6) which incorporates lots of bread, olive oil, butter, and olives. My boyfriend then had the veggie roast which he was really pleased with (with veggie gravy), and I had the lentil salad which was delicious. They have a good wine list, and usually they have a good amount of beer on tap but on this particular day unfortunately they had run out of a lot. The service was very friendly and quick, we have no complaints whatsoever. (Also I spotted Dougie from Mcfly which made my day...)

Not only was there no set menu, or any effort put into their new years eve celebration, but they were serving awful re-heated food. A lousy 25 quid steak, pork belly that was completely dry and chips that were stale. They had a few balloons up to be fair, but that was the extent of their effort. Completely awful false advertisement. No warning that they changed their plans before we showed up, just decided to bail on the whole event and feed us rubbish cooked food.

As a regular customer at the Marlborough, I was extremely disappointed by the terrible service and quite frankly comedy experience we received on Christmas Eve. We always go out for dinner as a family on Christmas Eve, a special night for us. The booking was for 12 people, and to cut a long long story short, they messed up our original drinks order when we arrived, they then forgot one of our main meals. We informed the staff twice that two people in our group, would be arriving a bit later. When they arrived at about 8.15pm, had their orders taken, even checked twice what sauce one of them wanted on her steak (the wait staff forgot the first time around), were then told about 15 mins after they ordered that the kitchen was closed and they were not able to accommodate them for dinner. This was at 8.30pm. We were never informed of this on booking, or when we arrived, or when we told them there were two people joining us later, or at the time of their order. Nobody expects the Kitchen to close at that time on Christmas Eve. The manager, we could see was not having the best night but it took me losing my temper a little before he even suggested giving us anything on the house, he then offered pudding to them because apparently they can heat a pudding but not a main meal. The custard for the crumble was cold on arrival and had to be returned, this was also at our cost. The round of drinks he offered, finally on the house, turned out to be one measly bottle of wine - not a round of drinks. Then to add massive insult to injury, when we asked for the bill, it arrived with not only the 2 meals we hadn't received, but also the £120 deposit we had already paid not removed, the glass of wine we were given in error, which they didn't even remove "as we drank it..." after they had said, well you might as well have it. I gather the staff were quite new but this is unacceptable for any night of the week, let alone Christmas Eve.

All our friends & family have told us just how much fun they had and we really enjoyed our day, with the food & drinks being looked after perfectly. The dining room & outdoor space was ideal for our 70 guests, even with a small rain shower we had loads of space and a great dance floor to party the night away. Would definitely recommend this pub to others looking for a space for an important event, the staff were so helpful in the planning stages and looked after us superbly on the day.

We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here in July and staff couldn’t have been better or more accommodating from kids to late guests, they were greeted by attentive servers waiting to take their orders. Service could not be faulted and decor/atmosphere and garden are also excellent. We couldn’t have been happier and is one of our best memories.

Went to The Marlborough for Sunday Dinner was quite expensive which isn’t a problem if it’s good the menu read well but didn’t come up to our expectations the potatoes were hard and so were the vegetables we thought they were frozen potatoes the beef was very fatty and grisly my husband had pork belly but the fat was soft not crispy our other friends had beef and chicken my friend said the chicken was okay we did complain and got £30 off the bill but certainly won’t be returning

This is a lovely pub. The garden is great, loads of space for kids and dogs, but the food is so basic. I would have given this review a 2 out of 5, but decided the garden deserved a point.

I love this pub but unfortunately today the roast was not good. The beef was over cooked, the gravy and 0 flavour and you should never put cauliflower on a roast unless it’s cauliflower cheese, serving cold boiled cauliflower is not nice, no matter how much flavourless gravy you have. The service was great and the venue sells itself but sadly today the standard of food really let you down.

Thoroughly recommend this great place. We turned up on a Friday night with a large group of friends, not expecting any special treatment but just to mix in. The staff were fantastic. They found us a place to be together and went out of their way to help. The food was good and there was a great atmosphere. Garden looks lovely but sadly the weather wasn't kind.

If you are a couple expecting a quiet Sunday lunch, this is probably not for you! But for families with children and dogs, it’s an ideal place to go. With large dining areas, including a fantastic garden for summer, The Marlborough takes a lot of beating. Very ‘children and dog friendly’ with lovely accommodating staff, this pub is situated just off the top of Richmond Hill. Street parking available in surrounding streets, free on Sundays! Food is normal gastro-pub fare, but quite satisfactory. Perfect for family reunions, but there are also quieter seating areas for small groups/couples. Highly recommended.

There are many great pub choices in Richmond but not quite sure about this one. Food was of mixed quality: my friend’s order of ribs looked great, but my « portobello and goat cheese » burger turned out as « portobello and a slice of charcoaled tasteless something... » with also disappointing bland fries... service was BAU, basic and impersonal...

Just what a great pub should be. Always seems to be busy and the staff run off their feet but great atmosphere and service. Its warm and cosy at this time of year but probably has the best garden of any pub I've been to in the summer. Now don’t get me wrong, everyone was pleasant and the service was fast and officient. They just didn’t seem happy. Perhaps a moral problem, didn’t feel like anyone of them wanted to be there, which can make customers feel unwanted. But having worked in the industry for 15 years, to me it just screams a team that need cheering up, and this was my second trip there so not based on a one off.

Chose this pub as it was a sunny day and they have a nice beer garden. But was really disappointed with the fish and chips - the fish was thin and dry and looked and tasted like it had been cooked earlier and reheated. The chips were again dry, cheap oven chips. The mushy peas had a crust on them suggesting they had been sat around for a while. For the price, I expected much better quality - just look at the photo and tell me you'd be happy to pay £16 for something that looks like it came out of a Wetherspoon's kitchen. Should have gone to the Ivy Cafe where fish and chips are £14.50 and far superior.

Great location, not far from Richmond Park. The Sunday roasts were extremely generous and they had great veggie options too, which was a bonus. We recently held an anniversary party for 50+ people at The Marlborough. We were very pleased with the evening, the food was very good and well presented and the service efficient and friendly. The manager worked well with us before the event offering a tasting session for the food and wine, her advice was excellent. The meal was held in the room at the back which was nicely set out and we were allowed to bring in our own table decorations etc. Everyone commented how attractive it looked. Unfortunately it was raining so we couldn’t have arrival drinks outside but the team set up a table next to the room to serve drinks from and somewhere to put peoples coats. The staff worked really hard throughout the evening to check that we and our guests were happy with everything. That made a real difference. Thanks to the Marlborough team for a wonderful evening.

Maybe the worst roast I have had in my 3 decades on earth. Opted for the full roast with beef, pork and chicken and only the beef was maybe acceptable and it was cold. Gravy was water to the undercooked potato’s were soggy all two of them. A couple of the female staff were trying to be nice but as it was completely understaffed it was hard for them. The male staff were just plain rude and complaining how it was too busy. The pork was horrendous the chicken seamed like it had been out in a plastic back and left in boiling water for three days. No seasoning at all and none on the table and attempts to ask staff that could obviously hear me were ignored. Someone is making a pretty penny here as it was packed due to the Greta autumn weather and you pay £25 for a roast not worth a penny.
