This is the perfect pub, a combination of everything you would want. Every one of the staff are so friendly and welcoming! The food is exceptional, you can taste how fresh and homemade every single bite is. I recently had the Salmon Fish Cake and Chips as shown, it was delicious! The decor is very well thought out with a nautical theme suiting "The Mariners" very well. Overall The Mariners is a beautifully comfortable pub that I would highly recommend to anyone!

I really enjoyed my meal (hunters chicken burger). My husband had the gammon (triple baked chips not great and could have done with more variety on plate rather than just 2 x fried eggs, pineapple, chips, gammon). A lot of tables. Very nautical theme.

Very pleasant Sunday roast and afternoon together with family and friends for my brothers 60th birthday party. Really good plentiful meals and puds. Lovely, clean but characterful pub inside and nice rear patio garden with comfy seats and umbrellas. Perfect for us slightly rowdy guys to disappear outside without annoying other customers (we behaved ourselves!).

A delicious menu awaits at this thoughtfully-designed maritime pub in Trimley. We started with a fruity Romanian Sauvignon Blanc and respectable Côtes du Rhône, as we settled into their cosy dining room. The staff were very polite, professional and knowledgeable, if a little absent in the dining room. The smoked salmon starter was tasty and generous. This generosity continued into the main courses, where the pie of the day was an enormous chicken and mushroom suet pudding. It was vast. And delicious. And i didn’t want it to end, but was beaten by it. Their plating really is substantial! A shame, as I’d have loved one of their great-sounding desserts, but that was impossible. The scampi was gorgeous but the triple-cooked chips were on the dark brown side. Not sure what happened there. We overheard genuine praise from other tables too. Notably the BBQ ribs, but mainly the lasagna special, being the best they’d ever tasted. We’ll be back to check on these! In all, it’s a great location and we overlooked their wide outdoor area that looked perfect for a warm spring or summer day (sadly the weather hadn’t reached that point yet). It’s clean, dog-friendly, and with a high standard that is disarmingly unpretentious. For a corner of Suffolk that doesn’t have too many quality options, The Mariners Freehouse should definitely be shortlisted as a go-to in the area.

My partner and I went here after work one evening to get some dinner. We ordered our food (starters and mains) and some drinks (water and an appletizer). The waiter came down with our drinks and gave us some knives and forks. We sat there for over 55 minutes and there was no sign of the food. I then went up to the bar and asked how long the food would be. I was then told that the food order had went to the till at the bar and not the kitchen. We decided to leave as we had been there so long and we had been looking forward to the food that the goodness was gone out of it by then. They did not have the brains to realise something was wrong while we were sat there with no food as they looked down at us numerous times. As we left we were followed out the door by the waiter shouting we hadn’t paid for our drinks. Even tho the water was free and my partner hadn’t touched her drink as she was waiting to have it with her dinner. The service and staff are terrible! I would not recommend this place, there are other places local where you will be treated right. 0/5 Edit. As I can’t reply to the comment I have to edit the post It was most definitely your pub and it was the 14th of December this happened.

A group of about 11 of us, volunteers at a local charity, had booked lunch and paid a deposit. We had a warm welcome, very tasty food, good beer and all was fine until it came to desserts and to pay. Plenty of friendly staff served us initially but our desserts were forgotten about until we reminded them. We then were told quite forcefully we had ordered more desserts than we had actually done and it took a while before the staff member consulted the list of menu requirements we had provided and apologised. The same staff member also became flustered and confused over payment. Sadly his unfriendly manner has marred my experience of what is usually a lovely pub.

Lovely old Inn inside, tastefully refurbished. Lunch was very enjoyable with the scampi dish ticking the usual boxes and a lovely tasty burger and chips with trimmings. The chicken wrap was simple but very good with chips which were a little on the soft side but still a good flavour. Desserts of crumble and sticky toffee pudding were great although maybe could both have done with being a little hotter. Maybe a fork with desserts too would be good? Dylan was great waiting at our table. Really charming and efficient. The meal was very enjoyable and will definitely return. Thanks

We studied Google maps whilst in the centre of Felixstowe trying to find a nice pub with good ale, nice unpretentious food at a good price that would allow our mini dog in. We found the mariners. There are a lot of pubs that do unremarkable, boring food or on the flip side they do tiny plates of pretentious expensive rubbish. I prefer places like this that make good, honest, well cooked food. We had two of the pie with mash (meat and veg) and a good dependable fish ‘n’ chips. All of it was cooked perfectly, was a great portion, tasted great and was washed down with an Adnams bitter. The interior is really clean and nicely done up in maritime decor and the people serving were friendly and helpful. Our little pooch even got some treats too. On warm nights they have a nice beer garden at the back. What’s not to like.

We called on a Sunday morning and despite being busy, they fitted us in. The pub is welcoming with a bright and airy dining room, large beer garden and lots of attentive staff. Sunday roast was epic. Roast beef was carved off of a joint (not like one in East Bergholt that serves processed slices). The pork belly was succulent and flavoursome. This is proper cooking by an attentive chef and they clearly take pride in what they serve. A large homemade Yorkshire, proper roasties (and lots of them), nice veg including a superb cauliflower cheese and homemade gravy to die for (you will want to lick the plate). I ordered buffalo wings x 6) to start. Big mistake. They were huge and it was almost a main course in itself. We couldn’t fit dessert but next time the rhubard cheesecake is a must. Throw in some good beer choices and you have a perfect Sunday lunch. Thanks guys. We will return!

We selected the Mariner for an ad-hoc evening meal whilst holidaying in Felixstowe. A short drive from the centre, The Mariner has its own car park, and looks, from the front, like any well-maintained English pub. However, the neat, classic facade hides a well appointed restaurant and a superb beer garden. In fact, to call it just a beer garden doesn't do it justice: on a sunny evening, relaxing in cushioned seats, waiting for a perfectly roasted Camembert to arrive whilst sipping samples from the extensive range of beer, ciders and sparking wines, it feels idyllic. (I'm also reliably informed that the evenings can get more than a little energetic when there is live music playing in the garden, so check first if you're looking for a quiet evening!) The menu is great - something for everyone - try the Camembert as a sharing appetizer for 4 (individually it would be a challenge!), and the ribs come piled high, falling off the bone, with a wicked sticky sauce. Fish is good, as it should be, accompanied by decent chips, and for those with a sweet tooth, mains can be follwed by a selection of desserts. The Mariner is run by a dapper fellow, for whom no request was too much, and who served at table, at the bar, with easy charm and casual graciousness. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and would heartily recommend The Mariner to anyone looking for a relaxed dining experience. Oh - and it's not just dog-friendly; our four legged friend was welcomed, offered refreshment, and allowed to go wherever we did.

Special family birthday meal out. Thought we would try somewhere different as live near Ipswich and been past many times. So dissapointing! Fairly Basic standard pub food menu but with items missing, no specials (except for apple crumble) and the service was so slow! Only 5 of us but took nearly 3 hours for 2 courses and to finally pay at the bar as couldn't wait any longer. Food quality very hit and miss. But the worse part for us was waiting over an hour for our main courses and seeing other people come in and get served while we waited...apparently they pre-ordered. Thanks for informing us of that option as never been anywhere before where that is s thing, except at Christmas or for large parties.

Thursday lunch. Fish pie and scampi were as good as they should have been. Two portions of ham, eggs and chips - a meal that is very easy to get right - were a complete disappointment. For politeness sake and so as not to make a scene we struggled then gave up - eggs overcooked with hard yolks, ham hot and dry. Plates may have been on the pass for too long. The poor quality must have been obvious to the cook and waiter, but the sub-standard plates were served anyway. The meals were replaced, and the replacements were perfect. However, this does not excuse poor quality control. To add insult to injury we were charged full price. Tellingly, we were the only customers. Perhaps, in the circumstances, not a surprise.
