Returned as a group of 6, after a few months, to celebrate our friend's birthday. There was no menu available on the restaurant sits, and the only one I was able to find was on trip advisor, dated 2017. I assumed (wrongly) the current menu would be similar...how wrong could I be! Basically 'pub grub', which we could have got equally as good, if not better, in any Harvester or Beefeater. The food itself was ok, but nothing special. The decor is beautiful, table settings were wonderful, with white cotton tablecloths and napkins, but the food definitely let it down. Added to that, we were the only diners...6 people in a restaurant that would seat at least 70!!! Hence, a total lack of atmosphere. I can only think others had dined there and been as disappointed as we were. Not an experience we will be repeating, sadly.

We used the De Rougemont Manor way back in the day for our honeymoon suite, (1977 to be precise). Came here a few years back, terrible service at the restaurant . Stopped coming here. But heard they were under new management and menu decided to try again. Arrived at 12.45 lady on desk said go and wait in the bar and someone will be out to see you soon. After 15 minutes waiting, we got up and walked out Came in at 12.45 today was ushered into bar area and was told someone will take us to restaurant, after 15 minute wait, we got up and walked out

Myself and my partner had a voucher that was gifted to us. We both chose the fish and chips which was nice and then both had a dessert. I was very pleased with my blackcurrant cheesecake but my partner was not so impressed with the watery custard and the bread pudding that came with it. The service was good and the waitress was attentive and chatty to us. There was a mix up with the voucher and the system hadn't taken some money off but the waitress was very helpful and got this sorted for us. I liked the decoration of the restaurant and thought it was modern. It was a shame that the chip and pin machine was not able to let me leave a tip as I would have liked to leave one for the lovely waitress.

A delightful small Hotel, only a stones throw from where we live, but seemed a million miles away, set in the lovely Essex countryside. Been there several times for celebratory meals, but first time we have stayed overnight in one of the Rooms. Have to say that overall, it was a lovely comfortable stay, a little pricey, but enjoyable. The Room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean and the evening meal was very nice. However, it was not without a few little faults that could be addressed quite easily. The Room No.9 (and I trust it applies to all rooms), whilst nicely being fitted out with a Fan and Iron and Ironing Board, did not contain 3 essential items, a Hair Dryer, a Bath/Shower Mat to stand on when you get out of the shower and an electric Razor Socket. Also, whilst there were 2 lovely big Bath towels, there should also have been 2 matching Hand Towels. The other issues are centred around the dining area. In the evening, the Music being played was far too loud that it was hard to hear each other speak, it needs to be a quieter, softer music. We were also disappointed with the Staff at Breakfast on the Sunday morning. This was our first time staying, but when we were shown to a table, no-one bothered to tell us that Cereals and Fruit Juice was available or where there were located; hence, we assumed that they were not included with the Breakfast, so we simply ordered the cooked Breakfast and missed out on the cereals etc. Also, the staff were very mean with the Tea/Coffee. One was only given one very small cup which the staff filled from heated jugs. Despite the staff coming back and forth with these jugs, we were never once asked if we would like a refill, until our table was cleared and we got up to leave; too late by then. None of these small faults are serious and may be laughable, but having stayed in many Hotels throughout the UK and abroad, they are the little touches that earn that extra star or rating point for the Hotel and we hope these issues will be taken into consideration.

Have been coming to this restaraunt for a few years now. Although the food has always been good, the current menu really needs to be updated. The menu used to be changed regularly, however the recent one has been the same for some time. It's now very basic and does not offer the wide variety it had before. Would like to see a change and better options before returning.

We visited with friends for dinner and was not disappointed, welcome and service very good. We had a groupon voucher which was for 2 courses, tho we did have 3 courses. Menu choice very good, we had starters of soup, prawn cocktail and halloumi between us, mains was chicken supreme and 3 of us had sea bass all these served with fresh veg. Desserts were panna cotta and bread and butter pudding. All the dishes were well presented and cooked perfectly. The restaurant was quite busy too. Would definitely return here and highly recommend this restaurant. Decor very nice too, very clean.

I had the fish and chips, batter not at all crispy and little white fish. My partner had chicken supreme which he enjoyed. Dessert was ok but would have been better with more custard. It’s such a shame as nice restaurant in a nice building, could be loads better

Lunch time during the week, so not too suprised it was empty. Last visit was how it was a few years back lovely food, unusual sweet.Lots of trouble gone into it. Fast became my favourite place. However our next visit I had trouble to choose something from the main menu, Sausage and Mash, Fish and Chips, Burger, or Chicken supreme. I chose the Chicken Supreme. It came up as one Chicken Breast with some fried onion and roast potatoes. Not in a creamy sauce as I was expecting. Not a great fan of one large peice of chicken. I did have chicken wings for starter which were tasty. The sweet was just a panacotta. Nothing like in the past being cucumber mouse honeycomb and strawberry, which I must say I had had 3 times in the past, it was so good. So I feel that what was on offer this time is nothing like a few months back. Such a shame

Our room was very small for the price and, as no air conditioning, ridiculously hot during the summer. The bar staff were a bit rude and they cleared our unfinished drinks from the table before the end of the night, some untouched! Considering the high prices charged for drinks, I thought that was a cheek! I did not sleep well, there was banging and crashing going on until early hours outside from tidying up and the pillow was hard and lumpy. To top this all off they messed up the breakfast orders and our food was served ages after people who came into the restaurant after us and they had run out of bacon by then and didn't bother to even inform us of this. The food was sloppily presented and pretty tasteless to be honest. We also witnessed manager trying to force some guest to pay for drinks that they had not put on their room, which was uncomfortable to witness. Guest even resorted to asking them to check CCTV to confirm they had not ordered the drinks. All in all, I would never stay here again. The only reason I upgraded the score to 2 instead of one because the buffet food at weekend was nice and most of the hotel was attractively decorated!

When I rang The Manor the receptionist said that they could do the booking, but not sit all of us on one table. I explained that it was very important to Mum and Dad that the family were not split up, and that we all sat together.

Went to The Manor yesterday for Sunday lunch with family. Food was surprisingly ok though my expectations had been lowered somewhat after the terribly bad service we received. In summary- had to wait over 10 mins to get a drink before we sat down despite being the only people in the bar (well apart from a staff member having lunch)- restaurant was a general mess and strangely had a plate of roast beef lunch on the table beside us for most of our meal. Staff just ignored it.- no napkins on the table, after asking twice had to go and find someone to bring them- incredibly slow and taking both main and desert orders (again had to go and find someone)- not asked if we wanted any more drinks until after our mealI actually felt sorry for a couple of the staff members as obviously they are completely under resourced. Though not as sorry as for the wedding party there that day as I hate to think how their experience was (hopefully better than ours). Finally, when I asked where the loos were, I was directed to the room where the wedding was taking place ? but luckily i spotted this and was told to use the disabled toilets behind reception which were quite frankly disgusting. It's such as shame and it used to be a really nice place and the hotel itself looks lovely. Think fair to say won't be rushing back.

My friends and I were invited to a friend's wedding reception and what a beautiful place. The venue itself is modern and the rooms are incredibly spacious. The setting is outstanding with beautiful gardens and a wonderful hidden secret chapel perfect for weddings. The dance floor was well lit and the bar a good size. The only downfall would be the cost of the rooms. We decided to stay at the very last minute around 11 pm and the room was very expensive for the lack of time we would be in it for. There was no discounted price for joining the wedding party or because we had turned up so late. I would recommend this venue for parties for sure.

I came here on Sunday with my boyfriends family, expecting a nice lunch. We turned up to a quiet restaurant, we waited 15 minutes to be even offered drinks at the bar (there was no other customers there), then we waited a further 15 minutes to be taken to our table. We had to find the menus ourselves, as after half an hour of waiting we were pretty hungry, for there then to be confusion about the menus. We waited a further half an hour for our starters, which were probably prepared in the morning. 45 minutes later our mains turned up - a modest portion size - not amazing. Then here comes the fun part, my boyfriend ordered a chocolate truffle cheesecake, so up turns a standard cheese cake probably from somewhere such as Costco - so not fantastic. Finally the main person turns up all smiles to offer us coffees etc. Not impressed. When paying 30 or so pounds for a 3 course lunch i do not expect to have to clear the table myself or find the menus. One waitress didnt speak english, just smiling when you looked at her. There was another waitress, a blonde woman, she was lovely but unfortunately the place was understaffed and didnt really know what was going on.When it came to the toilet they pointed us to the disabled loo behind the front desk and we had to ask where the other loos were as there was a few of us.Safe to say i wont return as the restaurant really doesnt have a clue what they are doing.

I've never ever written a review before but I am so upset that mine and my families Christmas Day was ruined I feel I need to warn other families. Leading up to Christmas I had a lot of contact with the hotel as we suddenly lost a close member of our family the week before Christmas. Obviously he had paid a deposit which they wouldn't refund. Surely a man dying should warrant a refund??? My aunt and cousin didn't come for dinner as they were too distraught losing their husband/dad and again the manor wouldn't give them a refund. Then to the day itself.... rather than repeat myself I'll send you the email I sent to the manor. I've followed up with another 3 emails and 2 phone calls and still no one has responded. I sent this message as soon as I arrived home on Christmas Day.. I'm really disappointed to have to send you this message on Christmas Day. We've not long been home after having our Christmas dinner at the manor and we were all really disappointed. This is our 5th time coming to the manor on Christmas Day and previously we have been totally happy with the food and service. To start with we were in a room by ourselves so there was no atmosphere what so ever. The music playing was muppets Christmas cd, I would have expected something a bit more sophisticated from your establishment. The staff were very friendly and we sat down to be greeted by paper napkins and cheap crackers, that was our first disappointment. We were offered one d'oeuvre each previous years we were offered a few of them at intervals. The waitress offered us bread but placed on the wrong plates (you should always be served from the left) she put them on the right hand side after asking each of us what bread we wanted. We then ordered drinks, my brother ordered a Argentinian Malbec but was brought a cheap yellow tail Australian Malbec I think hoping we wouldn't notice. We did however bring this to a member of staffs attention who changed this for us but only when we got home we noticed we got charged £3 more than the list price you gave us. I ordered a bottle of Sauvignon blanc, there was the only 2 of us drinking wine yet not once did a member of staff top up our glasses we had to do it ourselves. Next the starters were served. Most of us only had one prawn each and the batter was very greasy. Next the main courses were served, first of all my partner was served only one slice of turkey which is ridiculous for special Christmas dinner, we asked staff for another slice which they did bring for us. My son had a turkey dinner but had no pigs in blanket so again had to ask for this. We were not offered any condiments or gravy we had to ask for these and twice we had to ask for gravy as we were given so little. The vegetables were over cooked and only had one bowl between 7 of us. The parsnips were soggy and some were grey in colour. The meal we were offered was something I'd expect from a Toby carvery. The quality wasn't great and the soggy vegetables disgusting. Not one member of staff asked if we were happy with our meals and they were not attentive at all although when asked they were happy to bring us what we needed. Deserts again weren't great. Cheese and biscuits had a total of 5 crackers each. The Christmas pudding was cold and hard. The Eton mess was the only descent thing from the whole entire meal. Last of all coffee and teas were served my daughter asked for tea in which the tea bag was left in her cup. I had a coffee, no cream was offered only milk and sugar was in sachets and not in bowls. I would have at least expected that. Christmas dinner out is meant to be a nice and luxurious experience and for a price of £97.50 per person I would expect a lot more than you offered. A few years ago I paid less to go to Masons in Brentwood, the children all received a gift, the staff were dressed festively and there's was a live pianist. The crackers were top quality the service was amazing and the food was delicious, that is what I expect when I pay £97.50 per person as well as bottles of wine and drinks on top. My sister had her wedding at your establishment in October this year and we were happy with everything that's one of the reasons we decided to come back again this year for Christmas Day. We've spent a lot of money with you this year, various pre wedding meals we booked out a lot of hotel rooms the night before and after the wedding. I have always recommended the manor to friends and family. Im sorry to say that after today I don't feel I can recommend you and after a really disappointing Christmas Day with you today I feel like today was our 5th and last time I would spend Christmas Day with youI await a response from you Nicola Gowers

Have visited this venue over a year ago and it was ok then. When we arrived, we waited in the bar area for nearly 10 minutes - no offer of a drink and I had to go and find someone to seat us and take our coats. After another long wait at the table - still no drinks - a piece of paper was handed to each of us containing the menu for the day. I asked for a wine list and some water for the table. Waiter came to take our order - still not drinks. We ordered the food and drinks. Starters arrived, well 6 out of 8 starters, it was another 5 minutes before the final ones appeared. Guess what? Still no sign of the drinks. Asked again as plates were being removed. Finally water appeared and a beer. We thought "hurrah" drinks on their way - but no after 10 minutes I had to ask again and finally, just as the main course appeared so did our drinks. Food was served on cold plates so by the time the veg arrived the mains were getting rather cold. We had been in the restaurant for over 2 hours and didn't get offered any further drinks or our wine topped up so we decided not to have a dessert. But to leave. Well, despite asking for the bill - waiting 10 minutes, getting up and putting our coats on, asking again for the bill, loitering in the bar area eventually the bill arrived. Had I been paying I certainly would not have given a tip. Advice to the owners/manager - proper training for your staff, the ones that were there had faces on them like they really didn't want to be there and there was no senior person in charge to supervise the younger servers. Altogether a complete waste of money and time. Such a shame as I don't think I've ever written a poor review before.

Booked for a party of 22 for Xmas day 2016 to bring all our families together. £97.50 seemed expensive but we decided to go for it and treat ourselves as was our babies 1st christmas and wanted it to be special - worst decision we ever made. After being greeted rudely at reception we found our table in the back room/function suite, not the restaurant that we had booked. There was no host or waiter to greet us or show us to our table. The room had no atmosphere and was very dull, 1 xmas tree in the corner and a speaker in the doorway with carols playing. Eventually a barman appeared and we ordered some drinks. After a further 30 mins we asked when we would be seated and told by the barman once you sit down your dinner will start being served. Starters appeared but no canapes were served as stated on menu, and no bread rolls either, complained about this and were bought up after we had finished starter. Couldnt get a drink or ask for anything as no staff on hand in the room to assist us. Felt like we had been shoved in the back room and forgotten about. Asked for manager and told he would come out- he didnt. Managed to order some wine, had to ask for wine glasses 4 times, would have been faster to go behind bar and serve ourselves. Couldnt order more drinks as no staff, staff that were on duty were inexperienced and overwhelmed. Table next to us walked out without eating as waited so long. Waited over an hour with dirty starter plates in front of us uncleared, asked for manager twice more to find out where our food was and all the staff! Told would be out asap- never came. Eventually 3 hours after arriving actually went into kitchen to find manager as was turning into a joke- he was not there. Eventually dinner came up (we had pre-ordered to avoid a long wait with a big table...) Turkey was rock hard (not sure it was even turkey) gravy was lumpy, potaoes were not cooked, veg was like water, stuffing horrid. Condiments shoved on a table in corner of the room with no coverings. Worst food iv ever tasted, I wouldn't even serve it to my dog. Many of our party suffered with bad stomachs that night after eating the food. There was no apology made, we were finally told manager wasnt in today- on xmas day! We walked out having hardly touched main as was inedible. I would never ever eat at the manor again and would warn all never to visit here, terrible service, food was disgusting and atmosphere horrendous. Completely ruined our babies first xmas and we can never get that memory back again.

Booked for 9 for Christmas lunch - hour after arriving had only been served 5 rolls between us - no meals ready for any tables - had to leave without eating -appalling experience, owners /management didn't care they had minimal staff with no experience in leading to lack of service - most of tables sat in the dark due to no light bulbs ? Executive prices with worse that soup kitchen service WORST EXPERIENCE EVER - totally spoilt Christmas for us all

Having Christmas dinner with friends but sitting in a tent. It is like sitting outside. Curtains are blowing in the wind. Check where you are sitting before booking in the winter. I spoke to a number of staff who did not seem to care. I did not enjoy the meal because although delivered hot it got cold quickly due to sitting in the cold.

On arrival the rooms were cold. Told to put own heating on!Meal booked for 22 people for a 50th birthday. All our meals had been pre ordered.Staff serving were fantastic. When we got our starter most of them were cold. When receiving our main meal yet again cold or warm! The birthday meal didn't turn up as had been forgotten about by the time it did turn up all his family and friends had finished. We ordered more veg and potatoes which were tried to be served after we had all finished! So sent them away. I asked to talk to the owner only to be told he was to busy! I wrote him a note asking him to come and talk to us about the poor food, or I wouldn't be paying the bill! What a surprise he then came and faced up. He had nothing to say he tried to blame his waiting staff! He didn't want to take responsibility at all. At the end I asked for a discount and got yes I'm happy to do that but it will come out of the staff tips! What a big man. He should be ashamed of himself.

We went to the Luther Vandross tribute night last night, on arrival the staff were very friendly, offering us wine lists and a great selection of drinks. The three course meal was fantastic, all served together and hot, we all had the lamb for main course and at the end there were four completely empty plates... It really was superb and the jus was really good too. Luther was really good, first half was all Luther and the second was a mixture of upbeat songs, everyone was up dancing and I mean everyone. All in all we had such a good night and have been talking about it all morning so I had to write a review just to say thanks and we will definitely be back soon

Booked for anniversary meal. As soon as we walked in we knew it would be different. We were offered to sit on a table of 12 even though there were 2 of us, very amusing.Menus were handed out and we was asked what i would like to drink. I asked for the wine menu but there was not one, thats funny as there is one on the internet. 4 bottles of red were brought over to the table, no prices, no taste of the wine before i purchased. I went for the italien wine.Starters were chicken liver parfait and a welsh rarebit haddock.Chicken liver was ur run of the mill bought in as most restaurant do but was good. The welsh rarebit haddock was very small but tasty and cooked perfectly, side salad was excellent. Now the mains......i ordered the yorkshire fillet of beef and fiance ordered the corn fed chicken. The beef was tasty but i asked for it medium...it was brought out well done, it was grey all inside, no trace of red. Its not hard to cook a steak. The daphonaise potato were excellent and the mushrooms in a mederia sauce excellent. I had to send the steak back. It was just over cooked, quality of meat was excellent. The corn fed chicken, this was very dry inside, tasty but dry, all accompaniments were excellent. Chicken was sent back.Very apologetic the staff.I have to say for a Friday night there was only 2 bookings. This place has the potential but needs to advertise itself. Today 19th November there is a Luther Van Dross tribute, if we would have known sooner we would be there but no advertising, nothing and its not even booked out.The quality of the food served is excellent, just need to tweak the cooking of items. We are going to go back and i hope its better next time, just dont cook my steak for too long. Also please have a wine list, not very professional to bring bottles of wine over with no price guide.

We booked a table for 12 for a family birthday.Waited 90 mins to be seated and then the table was set for 15 so we rearranged it ourselves to seat 12. The table beside us was being cleared and the floor cleaned with a very unpleasant smelling mop. The smell lingered for most of the meal. Bread rolls were given out to 11 of us and a dish of just 6 butter portions. No drinks were offered so I went to the bar to order drinks for the table.Starters were cold and sent back, when redone they were barely warm.Still no offer of drinks so I went to the bar again but there were no bar staff present. Asked a member of staff for a wine list - there wasn't one. We were brought 3 bottles of wine to choose from and to be fair we were offered wine on the house but there were not many to choose from. The main course wasn't up to the usual standard I have experienced before at the Manor. The restaurant has been refurbished but not finished. The ceiling in places has not been plastered and there were empty spotlight sockets on the ceiling. The toilets are now only by the function rooms unless you use the disabled toilet by the reception desk (which is in a strange location by the desk and was not very clean).I'm sorry to be so negative but I've been to so many happy occasions at The Manor with good food and service, I can't believe how much it has changed. I'm very sad to say I won't be coming back.

Came here after a long drive on the M25. We were near home and I wanted to stop at the Manor and see what the fuss was about. We got sat immediately as it was mid-week so not busy. I was recommended the Scallops and Prawns to start and the Corn-fed Chicken with Mash and Veal Jus. Both dishes were amazing... You could taste the freshness all round and the Chicken was moist on the inside and the skin was cooked to a light crisp finish. The Scallops were perfectly prepared and the King Prawns wonderfully seasoned. Hats off to the chef and I will definitely be back for more here!

Went to The manor for a meal with some friends, we have been there several times in the past, we couldn't believe how much it had changed, the new management had "Refurbished the manor" to start with it isn't finished and they have opened it to paying customers secondly it's like eating in a bathroom there are tiles everywhere, it's so bright in there you almost want to cover your eyes. They started playing very poor "club" music and we were still finishing our dinner so it was very hard to talk. The place now has no atmosphere and no identity. We recognised one of the restaurant waiters as someone who worked there before the takeover, we asked him what had happened he explained to us about the takeover. The food and the restaurant service was very good but we will not be going back as a bathroom is no place to eat your dinnet

A family get together of a mature group of 8 on a Friday lunchtime. Very reasonably priced 2 or 3 course menu with a good choice in each of the courses. Even my wife, who is a fussy eater, found three of the wide range of main couses that she was happy to choose between.Wide choice of well prepared and beautifully presented food. Not a fan of the tiled walls and on a busy evening would probably mean no dampening of noise levels.

I've visited this restaurant a few times, mainly for family lunch. So I was a little worried having read the last few reviews. New management, disorganised?Well no such worries for me. I had the salmon, sea bream and panacotta from the set menu. My wife enjoyed the asparagus, chicken followed by lemon tart. Food is excellent, beautifully presented and service was very good, with the exception of the lady who poured our Prosecco with too much gusto! Seems harsh to knock off a whole star for this so I'm sticking with a 5 star review. Great value for the money and I'm looking forward to going back.

Visited this restaurant yesterday for Sunday lunch on the high recommendations of good friend whom we went with . They have been regularly and we're looking forward to showing us how lovely it was . So on arrival it was obvious as we walked into the bathroom sequel (folly bathroom style titles adorned all walls and floors) that the place which was under new management had been refurbished though quite frankly I have no idea clearly neither do they at what look they were going for apart from maybe a Turkish bath (I kid you not )My poor friends were so embarrassed explaining that on their previous visit 3 months approx it has still looked like the name suggests an old Manor House .So after sitting in the nasty dining room on uncomfortable chairs at a table which on inspection under the table cloth was like an old decorating table we waited and waited and waited for some type of service ! Manu , bread the place settings which were missing an offer of a drink anything would have been nice what we got was the manager running around like a headless chicken achieving absolutely nothing. So we finally get some disgusting wine which I wouldn't have out on chips we were not offered a wine list to look at so it had to be returned it was that bad and I'm no wine connaseur. We ordered our food still no bread offered though we had asked 3 times and then we were told they didn't have the soup but they could offer a different one this eventually turned up and it was fine . After constantly harassing the poor young girls who were the front line for complaints the main course of medium well roast beef turned up ! Well to say it was over cooked and hard would be generous it tasted liked it had been cooked the day before and then microwaved it was dreadful . I could go on but I'm bored and I'm sure you get the picture .It was rounded off with an incorrect bill and an evening spent in terrible pain with the worse stomach upset I have ever experienced. So visit the Manor at your peril

Booked 4 of us for afternoon tea for a birthday. The price is higher than most places in this area so was expecting something a bit special. You only get the option of tea or coffee.... No fruit teas or green tea. The sandwiches were ok, the fruit tart was over powered with custard and there was no fruitcake it was substituted for the worlds tiniest macaroon. The scones were cold and dry and also cut the wrong way so you couldn't put the cream and jam in. I have been to many afternoon teas and this one was beyond poor for at least double the price of most places. Very disappointing!

Recently visited The Manor for a family get-together lunch. Very good food, reasonably priced either 2 or 3 course menu. Very enjoyable occasion.I understand that The Manor is under new ownership so they may be still finding their feet . Redecorated in, to me, an unusual fashion - tiled floor and walls rather like being in a large bathroom. The actual bathrooms/toilets are not clearly signed. Staff were friendly but maybe too casual. If you wear a tie then have it done-up. Don't wear a tie half undone - better not to wear a tie. Flowers on some tables were clearly past their best. Just little things but reflects perhaps a lack of management/attention to detail.Perhaps I am being picky - 3/5 stars as "Good" would be a more accurate reflection.

Came here for a Family Birthday. To me the prices of all the courses looked overpriced. I chose the Filet Steak for a Main Course and asked for it to be cooked Medium/Rare. It came more Medium/Well Done and consequently was tough and chewy, in fact it was impossible to eat some of it and I had to remove it from my mouth. It was definitely not worth the £26:00. The Desserts were £8 to £9 and all were not available even though the Restuarant was less than half full. Those who did partake said that they were OK but nothing special and certainly not worth the asking price. The Waitress looked like she was in training and didn't really know how to serve properly and, unbelievably, no one ever asked us "if everything was OK"All in All, very much Overrated and Overpriced.

This was the second Sunday lunch we have enjoyed. The restaurant has had a refurbishment recently with marble flooring and marble wall cladding so it was a bit like dining in a walk-in shower room. Nevertheless the service was friendly and efficient. Set Sunday lunch was excellent with 5 choices: roast beef tender and moist with vegetables surprising cooked without boiled to oblivion. And the conjuring? Once lunch was finished you're entertained, albeit briefly, with a few slight of hand card tricks. If you can ignore the decor definitely recommended.

Spent a night at the so called lovely Manor hotel. Arrival, we booked in and given the key to our room, receptionist was friendly and happy enough. Although they had only put one kids bed in our room although I had requested two. But they were happy enough to add one for us later during the day. We went to our room, only to be turned away due to cleaners still being in there clearing up. So downstairs we went carrying all our bags and waited in the bar area. Room: small sweat box with no Aircon. But a nice little room. Not sure how they charge the prices they do for it though. On inspection seemed clean, but found wee stains on the toilet seat. When we asked the cleaner to come back and clean it for us, she came in with a dry white bed sheet to do the job. My wife requested spray and a cloth, which she did. God nows what they clean with if your not there to oversee it. Shower seemed fine and plenty of clean towels available.Bar and resturant: plug sockets hanging off the wall, half finished jobs, and decor looked a little shabby. Breakfast was very below par. But toast looked ok, but an English fry up it wasn't, certainly not going to fill you up unless you ate all the bread they offered. 4 slices for 4 people! Atmosphere: people where friendly, reception helpful, bar staff pretty relaxed and friendly. Couldn't fault the people, but it lacked any real management that I could see. I had to go back to reception as they hadn't added the second kids bed to our room, the guy sent me looking for the manager rather than getting him to me. So I walked around the hotel in search of a manager. The manager when I found him told me that he could only add two beds into a certain amount of rooms by law and thus left me and my with to sleep in a double bed with our 7 year old son sleeping in the middle. Not ideal for an overnight stay at a hotel! The reception didn't call me for my 08.30 alarm call that I had requested when I completed my signing in form. Even though she said it was her back on in the morning shift! Bed: pretty decent enough, although having your son tossing and turning in a hot room with 3 in a bed is not recommended. They tried to charge me extra for the two kids camp beds (although I only had one), but still the single camp bed cost was an extra £25 on top of the room cost, which I think is a ridiculous price and how they can charge you for that I have no idea. Offer the service or don't, you can't charge £25 surely! The hotel reminded me of faulty towers. I was expecting to see Manuel at any moment running about the place. The finishing touches had not been done and it doesn't look good. I will not be going back anytime soon. I would suggest calling and asking about the rooms and costs if you are in desperate need of a hotel and all the others close by are fully booked. Plus bring your own breakfast and blow up bed if you have kids.

Is the future an the Indian wedding venue, where the money is ? Good to see some of the old staff still there but for how much longer ? Great shame as they have always provided an excellent first class service. I could not help but notice the increase in the prices. Some menu items up by 30% ! Your now paying West end London prices in the outskirts of Essex. Also l nearly forgot there is now a giant fish tank. Not too sure how it will work out , but l truly hope it all works out for the better. I have had lots of "teas" in a variety of places but have never been charged for additional food. A shame because it would stop me from returning or recommending to others as if more than one sandwich was asked for it would make for an extremely costly experience. £16.95 & £5.95 expensive for a local venue.
