Fancied steak and chips so went to my local Young’s pub - The Manor Arms, Streatham. I ended up paying £28.50 for the smallest steak i have ever been served as a main course. It was also served on a small wooden board which made pouring the accompanying sauce over the steak impossible. We complained but the waiter said there was nothing he could do. The photos Young’s advertise as what to except and what you actually get when you order a steak are poles apart!

Nice but very expensive bottle of pinot was served in gigantic gin glasses because the pub had no wine glasses - really, seriously, on a Sunday evening in November when the pub was virtually empty? If I pay a staggering £32 for a bottle of wine I do, as a minimum, expect it to be served in proper wine glasses, irrespective of the time of day.

He was polite, respectful and showed great maturity which allowed for the drinks to keep flowing and we really didn't want to leave. One thing I also noticed was how he was liked by other customers in the bar and I overheard a few people who were leaving call him over just to say goodbye and that they looked forward to returning for another enjoyable experience being served by this young man. Firstly it is dog friendly so that is great, yesterday it was however childrens' party friendly too. Odd parents choosing a pub for their child's party and on a Sunday incredibly selfish as it is the one day people like a nice quiet Roast in a friendly pub. Back to the roast. The beef was delicious melt in your mouth a perfectly cooked. Veg were quite nice, Yorkshire very big personally I prefer smaller ones, but what spoilt it is the gravy a very generic glutinous packet tasting gravy. Any chef should be able to make a good gravy it would make such a difference and also I would not be surprised if it is the same gravy used on all the roasts.

They give you separate veg gravy which was plentiful. My partner had the pork roast and said the crackling was the best ever. The staff are very attentive and friendly and there was a great atmosphere today. Very busy with a diverse crowd, families, people who walk their dogs, individuals having a quiet pint etc. a football match was on the screens which is how a pub should be in my opinion. The prices are very reasonable for the quality. Mains were generous and nice enough except the sprouts, which were like bullets. I don't mind al dente but these were very hard. Pudding was nice. Staff were keen and friendly throughout but after the frenetic arrival of the starters we asked for a rest before the mains. There was also an error on the bill as the wine we originally ordered was out of stock but it wasn't taken off, despite being charged for the replacement too! The staff turnover is pretty high though, used to see a new member of staff everyday. Absolutely love their 'pizza and a pint' deal, really like the idea of an opened kitchen so you can actually see how your food is prepared. Good vegeterian options on the menu, not sure about the service as I've never been seated in the restaurant area, but the bar staff is always friendly. Loving their outside garden with the heaters and table football, good to get some entertainment while sipping on a pint. Definitely recommend :)

When staying with friend in Christchurch, while looking for properties in the area, we treated them for a meal for their kindness. It was a huge mistake choosing the Manor Arms at Burton. The venue wasn't too bad, while the food was good value (even though it wasn't totally what we had ordered. The mistake was the waitress that we were allocated, who had and mood and attitude that was possibly the worst that I've ever come across. She took our order down incorrectly, so when the food arrived we explained that it wasn't what we had asked for. We were greeted with " I didn't get it wrong, you made the mistake" the situation went from bad to worst, when we were then treated with contempt by this individual, making us extremely uncomfortable. We did ask to see a manager, only to be told that there wasn't one on duty. We left our name and number, but as yet we had no call. I wouldn't stay away, but if you go there an a waitress called Karen is going to serve you, run away! .

I had a Sunday Lunch (half a chicken) at this restaurant recently. Whilst edible, it was bland, boring and didn't taste nice - but then didn't taste awful either. I've had significantly better home-cooked roasts. The trimmings were pretty bad in that the roast potatoes were buried under the chicken so became soggy, the cabbage wasn't cut so had to cut through the core and I think I only had one carrot! It wasn't particularly expensive - I think it was around £12 so perhaps you get what you pay for. That said, being inexpensive doesn't mean you should expect tasteless food from a restaurant. Not a horrendous place to go but certainly nothing to write home about.

Finished tables left uncleared and an unacceptable delay of over a hour for very simple short order food. When it finally arrived the burger was burnt and inedible. Lack of communication from anyone as to what the problem was. All tables in same dilemma. Couples were racking up several large glasses of wine without food. That said my beef cheek was delicious as was the calves liver and steak. But a quick supper took over 3 hours!Such a shame because a previous visit was totally different. Sort your kitchen out.

We ate here with a group of local friends. It was reasonably busy, though there were quite a few empty tables, which was just as well as there is only one waiter on the floor (and only two chefs) during the week! I think on Sunday there may be two waiters! This is simply not enough and meant that the service was incredibly slow - I think we may have waited about an hour for our food. Still, it was not the fault of the staff, who were very nice and helpful and did absolutely the best they could (so my lack of stars beside service simply reflects the wait not the actual service of the people involved). Most people found the food good: my husband had fish cakes, which he said were good, and I had a delicious vegetarian dish (halloumi, hazelnut and sweet potato thing in puff pastry or something like that), followed by apple and cinnamon crumble. There are a couple of meal deals: pizza and glass of wine for £10 or two steaks and a bottle of wine for £25. I think I have probably reviewed this pub before, but when it was under the previous management.

The food isn't the world's most exciting, but it's decent pub fare. Worth checking out if you're in the area.

Popped in for some food on Sunday night and was bitterly disappointed. When we arrived loads of the tables were dirty and had not been cleared so the impression we got of the place wasn't very good from the off. We ordered the roast beef and the beef burger. We then had to wait about 45 mins to be served, I appreciate this was a busy time but more staff should have been working to avoid long waiting times for food. When the food finally came the burger was so dry that it was difficult to eat. I couldn't believe I'd just forked out £13 for it. The roast beef was dry as a bone and my girlfriend got a thimble full of Gravy. To get extra Gravy it was £1.50 which is very steep. It was probably the worst pub meal I have ever had. Definitely one to avoid in the future.

I'm not usually a stickler for the little things but when you get everything wrong you get everything wrong.Burger - over done, asked for medium rare. Glasses - filthy.Cutlery - unpolished and stained.Service was incredibly slow, out drinks sat on the bar for at least 15 minutes before the waitress bothered to bring them over. It's a shame because everything has so much potential, seems so lazy and like such a waste.

This local pub has great decor, super-friendly staff and a wonderful atmosphere. It stands head and shoulders above the other bars in the area. Great selection of drinks and a varied theme-night and food menu. The only let down to the pub is the quality of the food. Generally it is very good but it can be a bit hit and miss - especially their roasts where the meat can be tough and the yorkshire puds dried out. Generally competitively priced though and their everyday menu is pretty good - tasty burgers and really good pizzas. Overall a lovely place that far outscores all pubs in the area and arguably in its more "exclusive" neighbour - Balham.

This is a nice gastro pub. The décor is nice and looks authentic. Great atmosphere have a good selection of beers and a well rounded menu. It was very busy when we went but the staff seemed to handle it well. The kitchen is well on show and the looked very clean, even though the cheifs looked very busy. They had a 50/60 rock and roll band on which was really good. I would defo recommend this place.

A good choice in a bad area. Not much competition. Good community feel and plenty of good beers on tap. Plus table football outside. Usually a game on the box but it doesn't dominate if football isn't your cup of tea. The pub can get a little chilly later on in the evening.

Having lived in Streatham for around 10 years I had never visited this place!! I decided to go with my friend for a pre-Christmas lunch and was not disappointed. The food was delicious and the service was very good. I had the steak sandwich and we were asked how we would like our steak cooked. It was cooked exactly how I like it. A very good price too. I will be back here!

The pub recently changed owners and now has a much more affordable and relaxed menu with great selection of dishes. It includes all of your classics and they are all made with very good ingredients. It's a proper gastro pub! Their wild mushroom risotto is actually the best I've ever had! The pub attracts a good crowd on the weekends and with so many comfortable seats, it's a place where I've spent many Sunday afternoons! I love the new decor too! Very pleased to have a great local in Streatham!

Particularly liked having a short menu for food with just two daily specials to choose from. Food nicely presented. My only minor criticism was the french fries I had with the barbecues ribs were over seasoned. Sticky toffee pudding went down a treat. Wine reasonably priced.

My cousin reserved a large space for around 25 diners in the main pub area on a Sunday afternoon and from the moment we arrived, we loved every minute. The pub was packed with diners and people watching football and the our waiter & waitress were rushed off their feet but still made sure we were all well looked after. We mingled for an hour and then sat down and didn't have to wait long for the food and the roast was one of the best I've had for a very long time, generous portions, everything was cooked to perfection, it was hot and served with a smile with every condiment you can imagine. My mother in law bought in her own cake as dessert, they didn't seem to mind and allowed us to have it without any extra charge. I was drinking lime and soda, which there was no charge for... a rarity I can tell you. From listening to my friends, the wine menu was very reasonable. The pub is also dog friendly. I can't fault it, especially when cooking en mass to an a la carte menu. I live in Tooting, so we will definitely be back. What a great find.

The first few times we tried The Manor Arms the food and service were absolutely awful - the mistakes with the orders, the quality of food etc.... too many to mention. However, in recent months we tried it again and were pleasantly suprised with the friendly new manageress, waiters and the revised menu, good but still a little on the pricey side for a pub. We started going fairly regularly throughout the summer and apart from consistently slow, but pleasant, service all was going well until a couple of weeks ago when a new waiter appeared who could not have been more rude if he tried! The pub was empty except for our table of 4, a couple with a toddler and a table of 6-8 ladies having lunch. We had to go and order our drinks from the bar having been sitting there for the best part of 10 minutes whilst he chatted to a delivery guy - occasionally catching my eye but ignoring me . When he eventually bought them over he turned to walk away without asking if we wanted food, despite the fact we had been sitting there studying the menu the entire time, so we had to call him back! The toddler at the table next to us then knocked over his juice and when the parents asked for assistance mopping it up, he behaved like a stroppy teenager. Next, our food was served with an attitude that suggested we had inconvenienced him in some way. After a very average meal we had to chase him for the bill despite the fact that by this point it was just us and the ladies lunching in the entire pub!! It is such a lovely pub but with overpriced average food and staff that make you feel that you should apologise for being there, I am sorry to say that it will be a long time, if ever, before we return.

I want to like the Manor Arms, as it is local to me, but every time I go here it is a letdown in one way or the other. On entering we were asked to pick our own table, which we did, and as I made my way to the bar the waitress came screaming after me saying that she would get our drinks order...a bit of an over reaction and possibly a bit aggressive? The charcuterie board was ok but some people would probably like butter served with it. Also apple chutney was a strange choice that did not really compliment the salami, chorizo and parma ham. My main of Lambs Rump, I was not asked how I wanted it cooked, but expected it to be pink..... was not, it was overcooked. The caponata accompanying it was lacking aubergines and the salsa verdi did nothing to compliment the dish. My wife's steak, asked for medium rare, was served medium and also was lacking in flavour. The only good point was the waiter who took over from the earlier waitress was at least friendly. The final insult was when asking for the bill......we were presented with somebody else's bill!! Will I try again??....maybe in another 6-12 months, when I have forgotten this experience.

Went there for a Sunday lunch. Dog friendly which is important for us. The outside yard small but good no noise from the traffic, actually you have the feeling that you are not in streatham. The food amazing. We ordered the fish platter which was delicious. Main courses also great, dessert absolutely perfect. Staff very helpful and polite. Definitely we are going back. Excellent experience for sunny Sundays lunches!

Two for the price of one cocktail offer all night Fridays and Saturdays. Cocktails have to be the same (i.e. two mojitos, cosmos, etc) but really well made and plenty strong enough. Shared a Mediterranean platter with friends. Service was friendly but slow. Cocktail offer makes a cocktail evening with friends very affordable.

Went for lunch and was bitterly disappointed. Terrible food. Burger was inedible & the fish and chips was awful - the fish was watery & the mushy peas were literally just some frozen peas mushed up a bit. The chips were below average but edible. My 4 year old son could have cooked this lot better. Needless to say, would never eat there again. Any chef worth their salt should be able to get this right. Very basic food!!

Good friendly service, nice atmosphere and good wine. However, anything that comes our of the kitchen is poor. Avoid salads as you get couple of leaves drenched in dressing, couple of halloumi slices and few cubes of tomato and mango....the size of this dish resembled a small starter than a main course. Burger was ok but kept under the heating lamps for too long and chips were almost inedible as so dry. Won't be back here.

My friend and I went to the Wharf, for lunch yesterday. It was a terrible experience. We ordered fish and chips, and steak and chips. The steak arrived first, and sat on the counter by the till as both waiters struggled to identify who the dish should go to. To put this into context, there were three occupied tables, including us. When they worked out it was for my friend it was brought over. We queried if it was still hot, the waiter responded with annoyance saying that of course it was. We countered saying we had watched it sit on the side. He said, ‘yeah, for less than a minute’. On we ploughed. We said ‘well, we’ve looking at it for 5 minutes, on the counter over there’. His response? ‘No you haven’t’. I then asked him to not argue with me. His response? ‘I’m not arguing’. Oh the irony. My friend asked for it to be taken back, and he grudgingly agreed. The same bit of meat returned 5 minutes later, and the only change was it was 5 minutes colder. She asked for another steak freshly cooked. My meal then arrived, which I ate alone. My friend’s meal arrived 15 minutes later, and it was finally hot and she ate it. However, she has texted me this morning that she started vomiting overnight. Presumably due to the meal, as she started feeling unwell once she was home and didn’t eat dinner. Have I mentioned the surly waitress who ignored me, then rolled her eyes repeatedly when I asked for condiments? Yeah, not a winning team. I suggest you don’t go there when there are loads of other options along the South Bank.
