Yesterday I went to Cubana bar for the second time first time was great anyway I found the staff to be nice efficient there was only one toilet for everyone the music was on a computer no bad thing though last time it was live I was relaxing my day off then guy came over I am the manager I he was not going to serve me any more drink not that he had served anybody a drink at all I asked him if I had offended anybody done anything wrong he said no you can have one more drink and you have to go I took my drink outside because I felt embarrassed by what had happened and this security guy said u can't stand there I drank my drink walked towards home which is probably about a mile away I called into my local pub had a couple of drinks and went home at closing time I think the manager should have instead of picking on me a woman on her own should have spent his time sorting out the plumbing issues with the ladies toilet which was padlocked than picking on me when I was having a lovely evening and thinking about bringing my family there for a meal which is not going to happen now .

For those that dare to venture past the South American bar at the mouth of Lower Marsh will be surprised to find one of the best bars in Waterloo. Much like the children from the Lion, the witch and the wardrobe we were in disbelief when our comrade had told us of this bar with a moving train effect, great cocktail menu, drink offers (2-4-1), great DJ, open till late and that it was only moments away … “what is the name of the mystical place I asked” and as the words came out my mouth I saw the Carriage 34 sign glistening under the street light in the distance, I knew then this must be the place. Hidden away in the heart of Lower Marsh is this lovely bar that serves some amazing cocktails in a uniquely decorated environment, it is not for everyone but we loved it, it was a wonderful find for us.

From a distance all you can see is the jet black exterior with gold trim and signage, it is so subtle you could easily walk past and not give it a thought, if it wasn't for the faint sound of music, laughter and revellers congregating by the entrance you may not even realise it is there, as they slowly start to make there way back into the venue we suddenly see the beautifully presented A-board advertising a snippet of what they have to offer.

Apparently it's closing down soon and I'm not surprised. We arrived at 6pm, the bar itself looks quite nice on the inside but that's all the positive. Asked for a cocktail menu, was given a wet crumpled paper & grunted at. Went to order, the barman was halfway through mixing the order when he said they didnt have the right ingredients so do we want to replace the juice with something else instead. No alternatives were suggested, just a disinterested shrugWhen we asked for a different cocktail, we were grunted at again, he simply poured the offending cocktail out and remixed using the same equipment! My partners martini was warm with black bits in it. My "Rum & Spice" was flat & sour We basically paid £18 for two terrible drinks which I'm pretty sure were watered down & didn't contain the ingredients advertised. In my 20yrs of drinking in London, I have never had a cocktail as bad as I have here!

Rude, unhelpful staff - don't waste your time on a visit here.Despite reserving a table, the barman dismissed us upon arrival, insisting the bar does not accept reservations. The bar was empty (and given his attitude, it's likely to stay that way), so we decided to stay anyway and order a round of drinks. The barman then informed us the bar does not set up tabs. Clearly, he didn't want our business. We promptly left, never to return. And had a very enjoyable evening at Jacks instead.

Overall this place is a pub, why you should you charge people to enter this place after a certain time? Also it was well over capacity.

Was never really one to venture into central London, I always found the thought of it to be quite daunting as I’ve mostly lived in a small village out in the country, but after recently relocating I felt I needed to suck it up and get involved, I decided the best course of action was to ease myself into the London bar and club scene and have been trying out a new bar every week with friends. This is my first review and I’ve decided to share my experience of Carriage 34 which is not too far from where I now live so seemed liked a good starting point. Carriage 34 is an unpretentious cocktail bar with a charming bartender (lovely smile) who makes some amazing cocktails, the delightful decor of warm wood, green leather seating finished off with chandeliers that light up the bar is absolutely wonderful. The DJ is great and played a wonderful set for the evening (if you do pop in check out his headphones …very bling), the staff were polite, not overly familiar which I think could be perceived as rude but I found them nice enough. They lady on the door is absolutely lovely very helpful as was the girl that helped arrange cabs for my friends home. All in all I like this bar and will be returning.

This place had such mixed reviews I was a bit dubious. Went on a fri for a birthday. First impressions, were good, the barmen didn't seem overly friendly at first but this wasn't a problem, and I was expecting it after all the bad reviews about them. However one reason why I wanted to write was they ran out of ginger beer, and I asked couldn't someone go out and get some more, and they did! Very impressed at that, thanks very much to Nick, who also then knew my drink all night!Music was really good, the DJ was very accommodating with all the requests, and didn't play any rubbish house/trance music at all thank god. Had everyone up dancing to good favourites. Nice atmosphere, and easy to get to, good drinks, and wasn't too packed out. All in all a very good venue that I would return to

I have lived in the local area some yeas now and growing up I have seen this bar change hands a number of times so was dubious at first of is success, the previous incarnations lacked originality, character and any atmosphere but Carriage 34 as it is now called really is the polar opposite. The moving train effect is the ‘piece de resistance’ of this bar but even if you took that away it is a great late night bar with good service, friendly staff, lovely decor and a DJ who is just fantastic.Highly recommend for those that are aged 25+ looking for a mature crowd to enjoy an evening of drinking and dancing with lovely people.

Last night when invited out for a drink I never thought I'd going to a bar with a moving train theme, it really is something really impressive. There is seating throughout the bar but the best place to sit to really appreciate the experience is in one of the booths, I'd recommend booking a booth before you arrive, we had to wait for another group to leave before pinching their seats.Cocktails were very nice and the bartender was really friendly. The atmosphere is really chilled out but from what I hear the tempo ramps up on Friday and Saturday nights, for us it was perfect as it was, it is a lovely venue to take a date (the boy got some plus points for originality).I personally was really impressed with this bar and will be back with the girls to see what a Friday and Saturday has to offer.

I thought I knew all the drinking spots in Waterloo until I was invited to Carriage 34 by some friends, its actually hidden in plain sight (if that makes sense), if you’re not looking for it you could easily walk past without giving it a second thought, I believe that it is all apart of the speakeasy theme that they have created. My friends and I tried some cocktails from the main menu and took a recommendation from the bartender on the experimental cocktails, the experimental cocktails came served in a large sliver cocktail glass. Watching him make them was half the fun. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening and would happily return.

Fcsl804's review basically sums up our experience of this awful bar on nye.The 1920's evening we paid £25 each for was not a 1920's evening at all!! no jazz or flapper girls, instead 90s hip hop and RnB music from the moment we arrived. Over priced drinks, unfriendly staff and a bad atmosphere on the account that it appeared anyone off the street was let in to boost numbers. We left well before midnight and instead chose to stand in the rain to watch the fireworks at the London eye, anything was better than this bar. Would not recommend this bar to anyone, stay away.

What was advertised on their website bore no reflection to what we actually received. There was no jazz early in the night or flapper girls wandering around with nibbles, it was a DJ playing hip hop all night and would not take requests. Not the 1920's theme as described for the night and for which we had paid or. Drinks were far more expensive than stated on the website or on our e-mail enquiry. The staff we extremely unfriendly and unhelpful, just interested in taking as much money off people as poss. There are only 2 ladies toilets, which were not clean. After paying in advance £25 it appeared as the event was not sold out that anyone was allowed in later in the evening, changing the whole theme and feel of the place. Due to the party I was with we had our own fun but would never return here, never recommend it. There are far better places to go to in London and this area, which don't lie about what they are and offer.

Me and my friend were trying to find a cool new place with a unique theme to celebrate our birthday's and by chance I came across Carriage 34. I found the website and showed the pictures to my mate, she loved the decor and we decided we would throw a 1920s themed party, before booking we thought it best to head down and see for ourselves, we popped in for a quick drink and decided fairly quickly that this was the venue for us. On the night the music was the perfect volume to start the night with, loud enough to hear the music but still low enough so you could still talk without having to shout. Later in the evening after everyone had a chance to settle in and have a chat the DJ arrived and the tunes began to start pumping, brilliant! We had around 50 people in total and all of our guests seemed to really like the venue, a few commented on how cool the moving train visuals were (FYI they are not on all night they later turn into the music videos that the DJ plays … its fantastic!). You can expect a fairly mature crowd with a very upbeat atmosphere, the drink prices are what I’d expect to pay in Waterloo, not quite budget but also not highflyer. I would without a doubt recommend this place for group bookings its just the right size to spend an evening with friends and family.

Everything was exactly as we had requested and agreed with the booking manager. The venue itself was the perfect size for us, the final numbers at the peak of the evening probably reached about 190 people and that felt comfortable. The carriage seats were very comfortable I could have easily spent the evening seated.I would happily return with my colleagues sometime in the new year.

Had an area booked for birthday drinks last night. We arrived at 6.30 (as booked) to find all the lights on and no music playing, the staff looked at us as if we had inconvenienced them by turning up. First up, none of the beer was available on draft so I had to have a bottle, fair enough. Our window display was not on. When I raised this at the bar the barman said "is it that important?". Amazing.... Surely the concept is the whole point of the place! It was why we booked and accepted paying ten pounds per cocktail. Without the screens working it's just another run down looking bar! I asked three times but was told only the manager knew how to work them, he eventually tried, failed and walked off unbothered. Cocktails weren't great, toilets not in great shape, staff there just completely unbothered about the customers- they just sit around talking to each other. Oh and the same 5 songs were played on loop while we were there.I was looking forward to this place as the website makes it sound interesting. It's a massive let down and REALLY poorly run.

After a few weeks of hearing some really positive comments and staff reminiscing of what a great night out they had throughout the office I thought I’d bite the bullet and pop my head in to see for myself …. The bar is EXCELLENT and has become on one of my favourites in the area for a number of reasons, the concept is actually very clear and innovative, the service is to a good standard, the drink prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is uplifting. For a night out midweek their open mic night ‘NXTSTOP’ is very refreshing, the performances are all to a good standard and there is a massive crowd participation, if choose not to get involved you can simply sit back and enjoy the evening. ... not sure why its had such bad reviews. The decor is brilliant, the DJ plays the best music and the cocktails are fabulous. Not a beer drinker but I was there on the night they ran out of beer … that's wasn't ideal, some of the guys in my group had a bit of a whinge, I asked the manager what had happened and he apologised explaining that they had some delivery problems with their supplier but he assured me that he had made arrangements for beers to be delivered shortly … and they arrived within the hour. I can understand some of what has been said in the other reviews, the lady that collects the glasses is not always the happiest person in the bar but when engaged she has a really good sense of humour, myself and party really get on well with her … I also find the guys behind the bar to also be really good fun, we’ve seen the owner a few times and he is the most likeable guy. Can’t comment on the men’s rest rooms but I’ve never heard from any of the guys we go with that they have been a mess, vomit in the toilets after you’ve informed a member of staff is not acceptable but these things do happen in bars and unless you have someone in the toiles 20/7 you’re never going to be able to be 100% on stop of that … in fact even with a toilet attendant you couldn't stop someone from being sick … but I suppose its damage limitation. The ladies were very clean, the toilet attendant was very polite and I had no problems or concerns with the women’s facilities. With regards to prices, its not cheapest place in London I’ll admit that but its also not the most expensive in the area, being a local its fairly inline with the other drinking establishments in the vicinity. It's a shame that some people have not had the best of experience at carriage 34 but I really do hope they give it another go because I’ve had some amazing nights here.

Really disappointed with this place. We booked a table for 30 people and arrived to find all the tables already occupied. After half a hour of having to haggle with the manager we were shoved on the end of someone else's table and had enough seating space for four people. The manager was pretty unhelpful and was more concerned with his own huge ego. Rather than apologize his response was to giggle and say when you reserve a table it doesn't necessarily mean that many of you will get to sit down. Fair enough not 30 but I have been to lots of clubs in London who do not struggle to accommodate a group and do not make false promises. Half our group left within the hour as the bar staff were rude, equally as full of themselves and it took another 45 minutes get a drink. Overall I would say its just not worth the hassle. Expect to pay £10 for a G and T. The ladies toilet is tiny and it had a huge hole in the ceiling with wires hanging down. The guys who run this place are just completely out of their depth. The place is much smaller than the website portrays and if your booking do not expect to get anything like you were promised. Sad as we looked forward to it and two 30th birthdays were ruined by cocky unhelpful staff. Gave it two stars for the music and location but definteley would not recommend

Followed to the toilet. Said I’m a regular and will come back after to order as I do twice weekly. Wasn’t interested and let others in that suited.

Just having lunch and a few beers with friends. Service and friendly staff, very helpful. Food pretty good and decent price.
