Simply our favourite pub in the area, with friendly staff, a lovely river setting, great food, and oozing character! The house wine is good, the food excellent, and the service quick and friendly. A pint of Tonbridge is also excellent! The river setting is perfect as I love the water. No faults at all - thank you Neil and the team. We've been visiting you for over 15 years, and now living locally, we can walk to your pub with our dog, Ruby. Perfect!

I attended the Man of Kent with some friends. After my visit it should be renamed the “Men of spite”. I’m unaware as to whether this was a sales tactic to make lads drink their shockingly over priced bear or if they get a kick out of ruining someone’s night. On a serious note, I’ve been to the man of Kent multiple times and every time I’ve felt as unwelcome as a vegetarian at a BBQ.

This pub was a gem of a find while on a walk along the river . Such a lovely pub with so much character. Travelled down from s London, and was well worth the journey. Shame that the rain prevented us sitting outside watching the fish, but the meal was great. Friendly service just when needed, meal was huge but apart from some veg ( that went home in a tub) everything disappeared. We had a variety of roasts, the pork was scrumptious but the beef a bit chewy. The veg were cooked to perfection, and as for the pale ale and bitter, it’s no wonder CAMERA approved. Even the icecream and cheesecake were wonderful. Certainly would return.

Went with friends for Lunch, warm & friendly welcome on arrival. There was a large party close by but no delay in service because of this. Nice Pub Menu to choose from & all very happy with out choices of Ham, Egg & Chips and Pint of Prawns which came with plentiful & tasty bread. Of particular mention the eggs were perfectly cooked and Prawns fresh & delicious. We also enjoyed a Bottle of Chilean Sauvignon wine and a Cloudy Cider,. Throughout the meal all staff were very efficient and gave excellent customer service in a friendly manner, we really could not fault anything and all at a sensible and reasonable price, how refreshing it all was, would recommend & will no doubt return in the future, thank you everyone.

We arrived to a vibrant busy restaurant and was ushered to our table by a very attentive waitress. The food being delivered to the other tables was well presented and inviting. Try the venison or cottage pie; excellent value with just the right portions. Clearly they have a top drawer chef on board.

Booked for Sunday lunch, sat in the garden and it was great service, great food and a lovely setting. So disappointed that we were charged £14.50 for veggie lasagne as the veggie alternative to Sunday roast. You don’t get any extra’s, salad, garlic bread etc because it is. Sunday. The exact same meal appears on the regular menu for £10.80. When I questioned this as I went to pay the bill, the young chap just looked embarrassed & shrugged his shoulders, he asked a more senior member of staff to explain and she just said she didn’t make up the rules and that there was a set price on a Sunday. This explanation isn’t good enough. You just cannot charge 33% more for a meal on one day of the week!

We visited this pub for lunch based on previous good reviews. Unfortunately it did not live up to our expectations. The staff were friendly and efficient enough but the smell of chip fat put us off. That along with the dirty sticky tables made it an unpleasant experience. We couldn’t wait to leave. Nowadays especially with COVID I expect tables to be wiped down regularly. We couldn’t even put our elbows or hands near the table. The food was pretty average. Nothing to rave about but ok. Won’t be returning.

My wife and I having stopped by a few times recently for drinks, booked for Sunday lunch. There were 4 of us and each had the Sunday roast. The pub is well organised for distancing, the staff were all super attentive, and food was just what we needed (We have had a few “go to” pubs in the wider area for no nonsense home cooked style Sunday lunches close recently). MOK ticks the boxes so will be back. You will need to book ahead.

I visited the MOK a while back with some family members to watch the Rugby on a Sunday afternoon. After ordering some pricey drinks at the bar, I was told by the scottish landlord ("You haven't said please, young man. Try learning some manners"). Maybe he should follow his own advice. Having read some other 1 star reviews, it seems this behaviour is not a rare occurrence. Never gracing them with my custom again. Visit was a while back, but on principle I'm submitting a review, having heard other horror stories.

My friend and I went for a joint birthday lunch today, as we share a birthday week. The food was delicious. We were able to sit outside, despite the pouring rain, because the tables by the river (so pretty) were covered by gazebos or large umbrellas, and it was still a very warm day. There were lots of fish in the river, and beautiful dragonflies appeared when the rain stopped,A customer noticed that I had a flat tyre and came to find me, and offer me help. The kind and friendly publican (Neil) pumped my up tyre (only 2 months old) before I left so that I could safely drive the 12 miles back to the garage near my home. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this lovely pub.

We were staying at the Hop Farm campsite, this pub was the closest to walk to that was open. Lovely position next to the river, many fish swimming around for entertainment. They had the social distancing spot-on with a one way system for the bar and all tables outside. We were lucky to have got a table without booking & stayed for a couple of drinks. Didn’t eat here, the menu seems quite reasonably priced, if a little fancy for our liking.

We go to the MOK regularly and our children are always very welcome- their favourite thing is the fish pond and spotting trout in the river alongside the pub. Food here is excellent and there is always a roaring fire in the pub through winter. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Kids menu is good and the kids roast is enormous! It’s a small cosy pub so if your child is running around they risk getting hot food land on them hence why you’d be better bringing colouring etc and keeping them at the table! Ruby the dog is an added attraction too. Definitely worth a visit!!

We arrived on a Sunday (often considered a family day) at 4.30pm. On arrival my 18months old was very pleased to see her 2year old buddy: they ran up and down the pub making a lot of noise in their excitement to see each other: and so we were asked to stop them running about and sit them down: we did what they asked, even though it wasn’t in the politest way. We understood it was a little over excitement! We then sat with them in high chairs while they had snacks and played with some toys we had bought along: we spent at least £100 while there and as we left; around an hour later, who I assume was the front of house woman followed us outside to tell us we were not welcome there with our children who upset the locals and ruined their time there! They are not a child orientated pub were her words(even though they have high chairs available!!!!!!) I was shocked and appalled by this attitude and would warn anybody with young children not to waste time going to such a hostile place! Apparently children are NOT WELCOME!!!!!!!

Last weekend we booked all the tables in the pub for a fantastic birthday party for my husband. The food was absolutely delicious (we all ate chicken breast with cream and wild mushroom sauce, rosti potatoes and buttered veg with profiteroles and generous cheeseboards...). Many of our guests commented on how brilliant the service was and how much they enjoyed both the warm friendly atmosphere and the quality of the meal. In the group two of us are gluten-free and three are vegetarians and we all had our own plates that were just as delicious and individually prepared. It was the most wonderful, welcoming place to be and I couldn't recommend it more.

We ordered drinks and ordered our food. We ordered a range of food from their Autumn menu. I had the leek and potato soup, it was gorgeous, piping hot and in a very generously sized bowl. I then had the fish pie, never have I eaten a fish pie that tasted so fresh. It was beautiful and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. We’ve eaten here a few times but the general consensus amongst our party was that it was the best meal we had ever had there. Thank you. Xx

After goodness knows how many years (too many!) my wife and I returned to The Man of Kent for an early dinner as we did not want to cook. For a pub, the seasonal menu is quite adventurous and we found the food tasty and very well presented. I started with the crispy duck salad which was fresh and tasty; my wife had a generous helping of whitebait with a (?) tarragon mayonnaise, also very good. We both opted for the ribeye steak for mains. I have to say that the steak was not the best we have ever eaten, (variable thickness, rather overcooked) but the accompanying "jus" was great as were the shallots, spinach and fondant potatoes. The quantity was very generous and we could barely touch the side of carrots and green beans. We had a pint of Timothy Taylor bitter plus a G&T; to start with, then 2 glasses of red wine - a very nice Carignan from the South of France. An issue with my original red (oxidised - open too long) was speedily resolved. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere in the pub very warm - plenty of local regulars. We just could not mange a dessert, alas. We paid £66 for a very pleasant evening, and promised ourselves to return with a much shorter gap!

What a great place for lunch. The sun was shining and I needed to celebrate two years (to the day) of retirement ! Being a Thursday, arriving at 13.00 hours wss not a problem as there were plenty of tables still available. Fridays and Saturdays may be a different story and you might be wise to book. A pint of Harveys and a cloudy apple cider saw us to our table and some 15 or 20 minutes later along came the food. It was delicious and the portions were a sensible size - didn't leave the table feeling uncomfortably full.

By this time the pub had no other customers, due to this the bar staff (and I assume landlord) started making loud yawning noises to try to chase us out so they could shut early...advertised closing time 11pm!!! I have never been subject to this type of treatment in any other establishment in Kent...or the world for that matter of fact. Clearly a place that only welcomes customers at their convenience, not customer friendly or polite. I won’t be going back and nor should others...this sort of behaviour should only be dealt with by falling customer numbers!

Lovely Kentish village pub alongside a river . Excellent for a pint of beer and lunch. A rural location between Tonbridge and Hadlow - return visit very soon

the views are lovely and the staff are lovely thought i had the fish of the day an chips which was cooked to perfection - i never had such a lovely pub classic before. However, my boyfriend order the ham egg and chips which was nearly the same price and the basically gave him some chips two fried eggs and two pieces of ham (not the cooked fried ham you would expect from a pub) it was like ham you could buy chilled at sainsburys... and only two pieces!!! - such a shame especially as these and two diet cokes cost £30!!!!!!!!

We had a table near the window which is better for mum as her sight is not good. The surroundings are pleasant and the pub was not very busy so we had the undivided attention of the staff. The meal was good as it has been in the past.

I went for a birthday lunch with my wife, daughter (her birthday ) and baby granddaughter. My daughter and I both ordered the ploughman's. I had pork pie and paid extra for some cheese. My daughter had ham. I thought I would get a whole pork pie for the money but all I had was two small slivers. My daughter had a few slices of thin ham.It is a shame the pub tries to stint on these meals because my wife's swordfish was excellent. When I challenged the landlord he over-reacted, said 'I don't expect to be spoken to like that ' and told his barmaid to refund the cost of my pork pie ploughman 's.Rather spoilt the occasion. Still, the refund was enough for the second star.

If you look at this on Streetview , you can see the outside area overlooks the river. It's a great location for sitting out in the sun and eating/drinking. There are huge carp , also a pike , and some ducklings there when we visited, and the water is clear and shallow.Right opposite is an old water mill and you sit there with the sound of water cascading down , so it's a lovely area.I had a burger which came with chunky real chips and salad. The burger was very good and the whole lot quite filling. It may be a bit out of the way , but worth it I'd say.

We had been meaning to go here for a while so decided to call in whilst in the area. It's a real old pub in every sense, low ceilings and open fire. If it's a nice day they have a lovely beer garden over looking the river. The staff are welcoming and friendly and the food is tasty.

A pub with a welcoming landlord, well kept beers and tasty food, it ticks all the boxes for me. Delightful garden with a river full of fish to entertain you, also some interesting bird life.

Was in the area and we needed some lunch so we checked TA and found this little gem. Fabulous old pub dating back to the 17th century where they were obviously a lot shorter than we are now as this is a very traditional place with small doors and low beams to avoid. We were welcomed and showed to our table (which aren't that many of) promptly and drinks order taken. Menu has the perfect amount of options and there was some interesting specials. For us, we would say the food was very much 'home-cooked', delicious and good value. Couldn't really fault it and if we are ever out this way again we would not hesitate to pop-in for lunch or dinner.

Arrived as in the past before opening hours and prepared to go for our country walk before lunch. Publican came out of pub and sarcastically waked if we were just going to leave our car there. Explained that we were off for a walk and would return for lunch. He demanded that we move our car. Reminded that the pub was advertised in the Walks from West Kent pubs book series only to be told that that was an old publication. Obviously not welcoming walkers anymore. We left, parked, walked and ate elsewhere ... His loss not ours. Never again and will tell all our fellow walkers.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Meats on trio roast were great, parsnip and veggies slightly undercooked, but that's just personal preference! Service was amazing and nothing too much trouble. Will definitely be back. Thank you.

Not good, my beer smelt awful, tasted worse! I complained and was told no one else had complained, said I wanted another pint or my money back, and was told there was no one there to authorise that, so i left. Dreadful place, Dreadful service.
