The Malt House Harvester in Exeter

Wanted to be near Exeter Quay and decided to go to Harvester as large car park for late lunch. Three or four people at tables in bar area and it looked like perhaps 1 or 2 tables occupied in dining area. We waited where it says wait to be served, no one. Went to bar. Could hear and see staff working as they were hovering around the door behind the bar and there was an obvious moment of panic when we nearly caught someone’s eye and they quickly jumped back into the back room so they definitely knew we were there but still absolutely no one came to help us. Felt almost like they were hiding until we gave up. After about ten minutes we realised there was absolutely no chance of any service, walked out and found somewhere else to spend our money. Thoroughly unimpressed.

This place is great for couple dates and the service is amazing. Even in the middle of the lunch rush the food was delivered extremely quickly and was overall fantastic

The food and service were ok. However the staff and Management were appalling. Very rude, we want an apology for the way we were treated. We had not finished our meal, we were told to leave as they had a 2 hour and 45 minute table occupancy rule. We had only been the just over an hour. We paid our bill over £150 for 6 of us at 17:00 the time on our bill was 18:30 so they obviously have I.t problems. We were told we could sit at the bar, even though it was practically empty. What a way to treat people. Harvester you need to re train your employees. Whilst you are at it look at your payment IT

Dined in the bar area with my wife and sister , we all fancied a chicken dish which was a special midweek price , my wife went to order at the bar and thinking she had to pay for the drinks I had just bought and paid for , paid the amount the man taking the order asked for , it was only when she returned to our table that we immediately realised that the amount she had been charged was double the amount on the menu , when we questioned the same barman he said something about using an app and barcode to qualify for the lower price , and we couldnt cancel the order , his attitude was rude and surly . we did enjoy the food so no complaints there , but as we were finishing the meal he opened a nearby ouside door making the area we were sitting in draughty and cold . as we were to be leaving shortly we didnt want to get into a confrontation over this and didnt complain .. We had eaten in the restaurant the previous week and the waitress was lovely , friendly and helpful , We had gone there that evening to hopefully book for a family occasion a couple of weeks later with 15 or so guests, needless to say we didnt bother ,, Whoever owns this business needs to vet their staff a bit better .

Best lunch we’ve ever had at a Harvester. We had the joy of Nikki serving us for lunch - lovely, bubbly personality and made sure to regularly check on us throughout our visit! Will deffo be back again - hopefully she’s here next time we are !

Well I'm not keen on chain dining or online ordering but luckily Jo our waitress made everything so easy. She looked after us so beautifully. The salad bar was lovely and we had a really lovely meal.

I came with 2 of my friends and we had a lovely experience. The lady who looked after us (Sarah) was absolutely amazing, I am a coeliac and she helped with all of my needs. She laughed and joked with us and made our experience really nice. Good vibes and good food. 10/10 😇

Great place , service amazing nikki was so good at her job , well done . we both had chicken burger and chips . very nice but sadly our chicken didn’t feel hot enough and was quite chewy so we left best part of it!!! i did raise this with nikki and she handled it very very well explaining chicken is cooked fine as you use a probe to check it’s the right temp. but it did just taste tepid to us. and chicken being chicken made us nervous. she wasn’t offended at all very professional. we loved our dessert really nice. we went for the meal deal .

Food was great, came out quickly despite being busy. Lily was an amazing waitress who had amazing customer service skills, really friendly and helpful!

We went for a meal as a family of 10, we were looked after by the lovely Jo! This lady is amazing at her job, we had a child with diabetes who was having a bad turn and she instantly got her what she needed to bring her sugars up! We had a lovely meal and the whole time Jo done anything she could to keep the young children entertained as well as making sure everything was ok for us adults. The food could have been poor (it wasn’t) but the service was that good we would still have given 5 stars! Jo your an asset to the company!! Keep being you as you are amazing!

Do not, I repeat do not visit this restaurant if it’s busy. We were not told of the hour and half wait for food. The salad bar was empty with no bread rolls or butter. I tried to find someone to refill but it didn’t happen. This was meant to be worth £6.50. Not even close to that! Starters came very over cooked and tasteless. Waited another hour for the mains. By then we had gone past eating. My autistic grandson started to have a meltdown because he was bored and hungry. Had to feed him food we had with us. When the food came he didn’t touch his. My other grandsons food was wrong. We told the waitress who took the food away and left him with chips only. My daughter was so stressed she couldn’t touch her overcooked cold food. We had desserts ordered but didn’t want to wait another hour for these so asked to take them away. The bill came and we had been charged for food we didn’t order. The bill did not reflect the food or service we received. Much too expensive. What a waste of money. I would happily pay for service and good food. The harvester offered us neither of these. We felt sorry for the waitresses who were run off their feet. They were the only saving Grace. I would not visit a harvester again based on this experience.

Really nice food and very friendly and attentive waitress Jo. Ten out of ten Would definitely recommend a visit. We’ll be returning.

Our server Jo was very welcoming and lovely. Food was also amazing and great value. The salad bar was also well stocked and regularly refreshed. Definitely be coming again in the future.

Jo was awesome 👌 having harvester 2 nights on the trot we are feeling like stuffed pigs, service was great, did not need to ask for anything

It took a while to get shown to our table and we were stood at the front desk for 5 mins. Once shown to our table it took a while for the waitress to come to our table. So long that she took our food order and drink order at the same time, where normally they would come over take our drinks order and then come back 5 mins later to take the food order. It took a while for the drinks to come out to us. I think I had two trips to the salad bar before the drinks came out. The salad bar needed topping up as a few items were empty. The food was good and my child was given a fun little colouring pack. When it came to paying, this also took some time, it was clear that we wanted to pay and I even waited at their work station, but the waitresses kept going off to the kitchen to grab empty bowls. This was quite frustrating, when it appeared that the restaurant want that busy. One of the waitresses was training, Cara and Millie were both of them were polite and one of them had some good interactions with my child.

Thanks to Jo for her friendly service. Good fresh, well prepared lunch. Good location with views overlooking River Exe.

25/ 03/ 2024. Had a lovely lunch with my dear friend at this nice restaurant and the food were great. The lovely lady who served us called Nikki is a very nice pleasant, friendly and very accommodating. She did a great job. We love the place because it has a nice atmosphere, clean restaurant and the staff are amazing. We definitely be back again and will recommend this restaurant to friends and family.

Great brunch/breakfast! We normally go for lunch but were a little early so settled on brunch. Was a little 'cool' in the restaurant ( even the staff said so) but not a major problem. Loved the unlimited coffee or tea option. Great value at only £29. 15 for the two of us.

Well stocked salad bar, great service especially from Jo and Cara. I had the triple stack. My Son loved the build your own Sundae.

The food was mediocre but the service was AMAZING! Despite a very busy lunch shift, Jo was very attentive and charming. She tended to our every need, and made myself and my family very comfortable.

Server Jo was amazing! Very helpful and patient with a table of 15! Celebrating a 9 year old’s birthday so was mayhem, she coped very well!
