Normally give it a 5 but hugely disappointing last night , husband had mixed grill , chips were dry as a bone normality lovely the meat he said wasn’t great except the sausage , I’d eaten earlier so just wanted the olive chorizo salad 🙈it was a bowl of lots and lots of olives witch had 3 very dry bits of chorizo in and some rocket , really loved comeing here but after lastnight it’s a NO , shame

Food was excellent, I had Mags burger with pulled pork and jalapeño peppers (bit too hot for me) but the taste was fabulous. My husband had the sausage and mash which he enjoyed. The staff were really pleasant but we waited over half an hour for our meal and we were one of the first to order!!! Very popular pub and dog friendly, the sun was shining so lots of people in the beer garden, real ale too Camra Wirral pub of the year 2024.

I cannot believe that having lived in Wallasey for 70 years, that I have never found this place before. Visited last night with my wife for the first time ever and could not have been more impressed. Lovely venue, amazingly polite, courteous and friendly staff, superb food, (the steak was to die for), and a really great range of beers to try, (hic..). Absolutely loved the place and stayed for the Folk club that is held there every Tuesday. This will be my go to place every Tuesday from now on and thank you all for making 2 newcomers so very welcome and comfortable. No wonder that hotel ticks all the CAMRA boxes. Well done all.

Another great visit to the mags. We popped in for a bite to eat and a drink after a walk on the front. Great friendly service, yummy freshly cooked food and a lovely atmosphere. We got there just as it opened and it was soon full of people doing the same as us. See you soon Mags 👍

Great atmosphere, great staff and fabulous always changing beers.

Came across The Mags a few weeks ago and is now our favourite place to eat when we’re visiting New Brighton with our puppies. Called in for a drink and ended up having lunch, pesto chicken amazing. Very dog friendly which is a bonus. Working our way through the menu each time we visit and nothing has disappointed. Food cooked freshly to order and home made. Good range of real ales on offer too. Staff friendly and great atmosphere in the ‘dog house’ with chat and banter amongst the tables.

Called in for a drink on walk along the prom .Lovely pub and staff , sadly let down by the regulars who feel it’s ok to use foul and abusive language as part of their general conversation in the presence of children and everyone else within hearing shot. Clearly no respect for themselves or anyone else .

I've walked past this pub on many occasion, from walking along the New Brighton promenade,you can gaze up and see this Pub, anyway we decided to go in and see what the fuss was about,well as soon as we entered the door, Lady approaches us and no sooner as we opened our mouths we was seated in the back room away from the hussle and bussel,my wife ordered the steak with pepper corn sauce,I ordered the homemade lasagne and chips, my wife said it was the best Pepper corn sauce she had encountered, and as for me ,it was definitely a real reminder of home made cooking,all in all am definitely coming back here and would happily recommend a visit 👌

Had a lovely night with my book club girls. Lovely food. nice traditional pub with buzzing atmosphere. It was wednesday quiz night so probably busier than usual but got seved quickly. Would recommend

Just drinks this time, but the food looked nice.

Disappointed not able to get a hot drink this afternoon. Also expected to pay minimum £3 on card, even though all I was having was a soft drink. Barmaid was charmless, and not particularly friendly.

Nice little, always busy pub, is when we go anyway, service is quick even when heaving, great watering hole.

Quite secluded, not many people know this pub exists (except for locals), you won't Spot it unless you're strolling from New Brighton to Seacombe. Good selection of real ales and the food is reasonably priced. I recommend the curry, it was very nice.

Great pub, great location, full of character and charm, helps that they also have a great selection of rotating real ales (but they do have x2 permanent ones, Bass and Brinstage Brewery Trappers Hat)

Such friendly staff, fabulous old fashioned pub. We ate there and I had the best beef roast dinner in a pub that I have ever had…..it was so tasty and I normally find roasts in a pub bland. My hubby had the scouse for the first time and he thought it was lovely and our Son had the veg Dahl which he really liked too. All in all it was great and we will go back when visit again

Actually really like this pub, we only had drinks this time but have had a meal in the garden before which was very good. Old pub with different seating areas, great location after a long walk along the Mersey. Appears friendly, give it a try!. good pub food.

Great CAMRA pub. Very dog-friendly, and a super quaint interior. Really good range of beer and cider, and in a fab location too - you can get lovely views of Liverpool on a clear day.

Lovely pub food is nice but who the hell puts thinks to put peas and them other greens in a scouse should re name it birkenheader cause it ain't scouse thats for sure 🤣

We call in this pub when my Son is home for a visit and we go for a walk in New Brighton. Food is always good, my Son's steak cooked perfectly, my scouse lovely with really nice bread, chips home made and salad garnish always fresh. Staff always pleasant and polite

Lovely friendly staff good food and atmosphere

I will never go back here again the people are so rude especially the old woman with dark hair and the man who backs up her behaviour is just as bad. Stay away from this place until they learn to treat people in a nicely manner. Worst thing was I was with my son, he spilt a drink which they made him clean up at 12years old. Absolutely disgusting attitude from them will avoid at all costs from now on

Absolutely awful service by the old dark haired lady behind the bar. Came in for some lunch as have heard good things and was spoken to with no respect and as if I owed her something. Had a terrible attitude and it’s not the first time that I have seen her be rude to customers. Needs to sort out her attitude before you have a lot more unhappy customers.

Super local pub. Great service. Friendly. My partner and my friend both have mobility problems and the landlady was really helpful bringing drinks to our table. Other customers were really helpful too.

We booked for a family meal on Sunday afternoon. Disappointing. We waited a long time for our order to be taken and then waited ages for starters and main courses. The food was just OK. Didn't bother with desserts as we'd already been in there for 2 and a half hours! The girl who was waiting on our table kept petting the dogs in the pub and letting them lick her hands. I just hope she was washing before serving people their food! 🤦‍♀️ Nice pub for a drink but won't be bothering to eat there again.

Just had an excellent time tonight for a Christmas meal. The food and service were brilliant and vert reasonably priced.

Old fashioned boozer with excellent ales and lovely food. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Best fish and chips on Wirral. Every time we go there we meet new people and have a good time with them.visited again on 16th of November. Only change is the fish and chips now only available in one size. This pub deserves to be highly rayrd.

Love this place, traditional warm pub nice food, lovely beer garden in the summer and cozy in the winter with amazing views. Staff are lovely

Great pub with Lovely staff. The food was excellent especially the scouse. The chefs even put a candle in my mums desert which was a blackcrurrent and apple crumble (delicious) and sang happy birthday to my mum. The price was very reasonable aswell. I highly recommend this traditional pub and the food. We will definitely be returning

On my door step , best pub and now the best food all in one , love it here , the great value for money helps me want to come back even more , same again tomorrow x

Some months ago I booked a table for 2.10.23 (my name and number were recorded at the time) to eat at the Magazine. It was my mum’s 78th birthday meal - my family visited from Germany and mum wanted to go a traditional English pub. We got ready and travelled to the Magazine only to see a sign on the bar that the kitchen was closed. We were really disappointed and spoke to the staff who informed us that the chef has been on sick leave for some time. Why didn’t staff call me a day or so before to let me know so that I could have made other arrangements for my mum’s birthday treat? Why wasn’t I called on the day even? I contacted the Magazine via their website and haven’t received a reply. Needless to say we will not be returning due to the complete lack of customer care.

Belter little pub with nice staff and a good pint , beer garden is a winner with a nice view and loads of space to sit down , definitely worth calling in of your passing

Great place, dog friendly, regular quizzes etc & a nice pint , bonus it has a dog friendly room called the Dog House

Dropped by after a walk down the promenade. Staff were friendly with prompt service. Didn't have any food, so I can't comment. Recommended.

Only visited the pub and didn't stay at the hotel. What I will say is service was good and staff were pleasant. The pub has a great vibe and I would love return.

Our local. Great pub with a nice selection of ales and great food. Friendly atmosphere and the pub itself is in a great location close to promenade with a beer garden at the back.

Cracking pub just up from the waterfront with an old school atmosphere, lots of cask beers and an all round well run feel to it.

We didn't eat, so our 5 stars are based solely on the quality of the food we saw going out. The Magazine is famous for being a 'Bass' 🔺️pub and it certainly didn't disappoint. As designated driver, I could only have the one, but er indoors consumed my share as well. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and we'll certainly be going back, quite probably with a bunch of other members of The Honourable Order of Bass Drinkers.

Been a few years since visiting 'The Mags'. Went to play a crown green bowls league game. Nice hot day and a very pleasant pint of cider afterwards. The pub is quaint and has a good selection of draft beers. I will be going back to try the food which I am told is very good. WTch this space for a further report.

First experience: Great place. Loads of character. Great selection of well managed ales. Friendly bar staff. Food very very good with monster fish and chips and now a really good tapas offering. Place is dog friendly too and as its just off the prom it is a great watering hole after, during or before a walk. The sort of place I would dream of being snowed in at 🙂 Second experience (oh dear): Went tonight and problems. Their system went wrong and our order for 2 large fish and chips wasnt placed until we chased them up half an hour later. Next the delivered food was not the large by any means. When queried we got a rather frosty guy say he would go and check but he didnt come back. Instead a your member of staff was sent to refund us (guy didnt have the decency to come back to appoligise or make good). We declined the refund and after eating the small but very good fish and chips we left. Ok it was crazy busy in there tonight but not a great experience and handling problems well is the hallmark of good management and this was not handled well. Kind of dulls the interest in going back...

Busy little place. Shame the Kitchen was shut when we arrived(19.45) but a great selection of Real ales
