Visited with family, food was really delicious, desserts great too. Had the 'special' Turkey, ham and leek pie, which I would highly recommend. Family members had lasagne and ham, egg and chips which they thoroughly enjoyed. Very friendly owners too, made you feel welcome. Will definitely revisit.

Paid this pub a visit after a long but good journey. Hospitality was excellent. Lovely man could not do enough for us. Food was very good and would certainly recommend. Lovely chilled, relaxed evening out with excellent range of home made sweets/puddings which we were tempted by - very naughty but very nice!!

What a lovely pub! We happened to be passing and popped in for a drink, Ended up staying for sunday roast and pudding. Food was lovely (2x Roast Pork, 1x nut roast; choc brownie, pavlova and lemon posset). Nut roast was gorgeous, with a good selection of vegetables for all. Our dogs joined us and were very welcome. A real gem. A bit far away for us to visit regularly, but if we are back in the area again, we'll be back.

I had nut roast for Sunday lunch which was the best I've ever had! = full of nuts and cranberries + fluffy yorkshire pudding + crunchy roast potatoes + selection of 4 vegetables. I had yummy chocolate brownie and ice cream. Kate is a wonderful cook and Bob a great barman. Although the pub is "off the beaten track", I thoroughly recommend you to eat at this pub for an excellant meal. It's closed Monday & Tuesday.

Having seen good reviews and because they're dog friendly, we planned on early dinner but stayed longer because we enjoyed the feel of the place, the friendly service, great food an unexpected live music. We had lasagne and scampi. Great food. The freshly prepared salad served with the mains was excellent. The creme brulee was freshly made and top notch. I had a well served pint or two of Teignworthy Gun Dog. Well kept, very good beer. All in all a great experience.

Lovely pub (proper pub) close to where we were staying. Had a couple of pints of their local real ale which was good. Landlord was accommodating, helpful and good to talk with Our food was served in good time and we were unable to find fault with any of it. The pub is dog friendly and our Springerpoo Mollie was able to sit with us at our table In all a lovely couple of hours at a nice pub in good company We travelled from Wales for a short break so its unlikely we will return but what a gem all the same

This was a ‘pit stop’ on our way to a weekend hotel stay. Strangely in this part of Devon many pubs do not open for lunch, even on a Friday. The pub is accessible (with navigation), and comfortable. The landlady, Kate, was charming and friendly in a balanced way. She got our humour as well. We had small lunch portions of fish and chips, and ham egg and chips, both with peas. The food was fresh and well prepared. Thank you.

We had, fish cake and nachos as starter. Both well presented. Nachos presentation was over the top. The sauces were homemade and tasted amazing. As main course, we had pheasant stew with roasted potatoes and beetroot, fisherman pie and Swede mash and red cabbage as side order. Great flavour and taste. Meat was very tender. Fish pie full of flavour. Table service was courteous. Great evening. Worth a visit.

The Lymington was a family favourite for years with an excellent menu. The food was imaginative, locally sourced and had the attention to detail thay you only get with an experienced chef. Unfortunately, The Lymington changed hands Dec 2018 and is now a completely different dining experience. The menu bears little relationship to that still advertised on its website and now reads more like a run-of-the-mill chain pub - bland, unimaginative and poorly served. No more pheasant, duck breast, guinea fowl or fresh salmon, the goats cheese, pork tenderlon and delicious rich sauces have all gone, as have the incredible puddings. I understand that it takes time for new proprietors to settle in but to replace what had been outstanding dishes with burgers, scampi, lasagna and the ubiquitous steak seems foolish in the extreme.

We were holidaying in the area and were en route from Dunkery Beacon to Fingle Bridge and hadn't seen anywhere for a long time to stop for lunch. At about 2.10pm we spotted the Lymington Arms and pulled in. When asked if they were still doing food, we were told they had just stopped serving food...just as we were about to leave, the lady who I believe was the chef said she could do us something like the prawn, salmon and avocado salad or pate and toast as she'd turned the fryers off...then thought some more and said oh it's ok they've only been off for a few minutes they'll soon warm up. We said no it was fine, the prawn and salmon sounded good. She offered bread and butter too. We went to the bar and ordered drinks and the landlord said to take a seat and he'd bring our drinks over. Our lunch was better than we could have hoped for and they couldn't have been more accommodating to a pair of hungry travellers. From what we had we are sure the full menu would be good! Highly recommended.

The family, on this occasion, consisted of 4 over-60's, the eldest of whom uses a walker, and a dog. We visited on a Wednesday and were so impressed we returned on a Friday. The first time we were just passing, on our way back to a nearby hotel. We phoned to book on the Friday and were 'fitted in': I anticipated this not being great and was wrong!! The first time we only wanted snacks so had just a starter which was enough, the pâté was especially good. The second time we had main courses and desserts. The pork tenderloin was rated 10/10 as was the lasagna. The caramel tart was yummy. There are steps to one door and a ramp on the other door but there is a tiny step still which might be problematic for a wheelchair but was fine with the walker. I only wish we lived nearer as I would then visit often.

I had the prawns and they were fabulous. The service was efficient and we didn't have to wait long, and the waitress was funny and lovely. The puds are quite pricey but very nice indeed. I had the sticky toffee pud - wooo!

Chef Steve Kinsey once held the post of Chef in a well-known hotel in Barbados and, no doubt, perfected his skills at slipping fantastic food under your nose - limbo style. Upon entering this outwardly unassuming eatery, you are met with a delightful, extensive range of "Specials" on approx 4 blackboards. (I don't remember exactly how many blackboards because I was losing count of the number of dishes that made my mouth water, after the first board)! Although, this was a Sunday lunchtime visit during the main holiday season, there were plenty of tables available - but I would not chance just turning up, without reserving a table, if I were you. They have extensive seating and, on the occasion of our visit, they had opened up other seating areas, so this may have accounted for the less-than-full feel. However, closer to the bar area, there were plenty of other people enjoying their meals, engaging in friendly chat and adding to the buzz of this place. The salmon starter is delightful and a light starter. The chicken pate was also very tasty and was plentiful(!). As it was a Sunday lunchtime, orders for beef and lamb roasts were made by our party. Truly delicious, tender, full of flavour and filling. After the main course, another blackboard is presented listing a dozen desserts and challenging the diner to attempt yet more delicious food. Turning to the blonde in our party (yes we had one, to mirror that famous food critic), we followed her enthusiastic dive into the list of desserts. We were very pleased with the food and, we must say to anyone that cares to read this, that the service was very good also. Attentive, but not intrusive, polite and helpful. Well worth a visit. Hey, Steve, if you read this - come out and see us (diners) and take a bow. This would add the personal touch to your dishes that would set you even further apart from the others.

We were recommended this place and had to visit, although a little dated the pub seemed friendly and welcoming. After a short wait we gave orders after having difficulty reading the menu from a badly scribbled chalk board. After a slight wait we received what I can only describe as ok food nothing special and definitely not worth the long drive to get here what else can I say it was ok wouldn't journey back but if I were hungry and there was now where else to eat. (Which there isn't for a few miles) then may force myself back in! Sorry

I have visited the Lymington Arms on many occasions and never does it disappoint you. The food is seriously yummy, well presented and not over priced. The staff are always welcoming and you can tell this is a friendly family run pub / restaurant. The Lymington offers a good range of meals for everyone. The only downside for me are the small round tables for a couple, but other than that, it is worth a visit.

We went here last Sunday for lunch. Having booked late on Sunday morning we were welcomed by the landlord and I think it was his wife, very warmly. It was fairly busy and although they had run out of roast beef, the roast pork served to us was absolutely superb and it's not often you get crackling this good when eating out and plenty of it. Our starters were very good to, I had mushrooms in breadcrumbs, stuffed with camembert and my wife had tempura prawns. Too stuffed for puddings, so a big thanks to all for an excellent lunch, Will go back again for sure in the near future Mick and Pam.

If you can find this brilliant old pub, in the middle of remote, rural Devon, you are in for a great! The atmosphere is pure Devon Village Pub with many cheerful locals propping up the bar but the Menu is top-notch and the fresh, local food is cooked to perfection. The service is convivial to say the least but also very friendly and efficient. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the grub. A bit off the beaten track but very well worth the effort of finding the place.

Stopped off whilst travelling up the M5. We rang ahead to book but although fairly busy there were lots of available tables. Had the veggie roast which was pretty good. Friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

Telephoned to book and said that we may be bringing a dog. We were told that dogs were not allowed in the dining room which was fair enough, however we could eat in the bar. As there were 5 of us we decided not to take the dog and I rang and told them so and asked to book the dining area. When we arrived I went to the dining area to be greeted by a rather large dog, (which turned out to be the owners,) which was slobbering everywhere as it walked around the room. I then found out that we had been put in the bar. We then had to walk through the dining room to where the food was being served and then back into the bar which was becoming busy. We were sat around a table in the middle of the bar with people constantly back and forth. It was a nightmare. Needless to say we won’t be returning

Enjoyed a delicious meal at Penquen Fish Bar! The cod was enormous and perfectly cooked—so fresh and tasty. The chips were equally great, crispy on the outside and soft inside. Overall, a fantastic takeaway experience. Highly recommend this spot for anyone craving quality fish and chips!"
