We thoroughly enjoyed a family dinner at the Lurcher. Food was well cooked, nicely presented and reasonably priced. Staff were nice, friendly and made us welcome. The only criticism (from our personal point of view) was that one of the customers sitting at the bar was allowed to vape indoors, he also brought his dog in (type of bully or something similar) who we had to pass on our way to the sitting area and again going back and to the bathroom. The dog was walking free and although it looked friendly I felt uneasy whilst visiting with children :(

We live in a village in Wiltshire and were visiting family in Rainworth, we decided to try the local pub for Sunday lunch.. You had the choice of three meats and either a classic or premium roast. I had the classic beef it was tender and succulent. Peas, roast potatoes, parsnips,Yorkshire pudding carrots creamed potatoes and red cabbage with extra gravy if you wanted it. Also crisped parsnip skins.. It was excellent value for money, cooked to perfection. It was all served by friendly staff. Would certainly come back..

Dropped by for Lunch. New Re-Furb has upgraded the tired decor to up-market smart & stylish. Friendly atmosphere & Landlords Gary & Craig could not do enough! The “New Yorker” 12” Sausage in a Roll was awesome to behold & really tasty. Sausages, Mash & Peas in Onion Gravy on a GiantYorkshire Pudding was Delicious & hit the spot on a cold, miserable day! Visited for the second time as we enjoyed the food and service the first time, and we were not disappointed this time either. The food was superb and the plates were so full that none of my party could finish and empty the plates. There was NO room for desserts. The costs were very reasonable. We still recommend their breaded mushrooms with garlic sauce. Thank you all at the Lurcher for a wonderful meal. Will certainly come again.

Went with family for evening meal, the menu was totally different and with a good selection of meals which made a nice change. Order garlic mushrooms and expected the usual button mushrooms but to my surprise they were slices of large mushroom and plenty of slices, there were enough to share with 2 others. The other starters were just as big. The main meals came out and once again more than one could eat on the plate. It was nice that the chef came out to see how the meal was. We all greed that everybody was completely satisfied. Would definitely go back again. Well done to all at The Lurcher.

Called on on a Sunday afternoon to be told the no racist dinner left at 5pm-no problem- landlord originally welcoming, no table service but not told this when we first arrived. Food ordered at the bar only to be told only 1 gammon when 2 were required, chief something else and sat down, gammon arrived with tomato not pineapple, a while later pineapple arrived, chips were cooked but sometime early as they were soggy, salad served was covered in some soy of sauce which was not mentioned on the menu. I would have said no sauce if I’d have known. No problem I pushed aside what I didn’t want, when the landlady came to clear the table she asked if the meal was ok, I asked if she wanted an honest opinion- the chips were awful and soggy- she asked if we wanted a dessert on had house - we didn’t. The attitude change completely from the landlord as he defended the cook saying they weren’t old or pre coked chips, when I went to pay I asked for a receipt only to see if had a glass of wine added and it was removed, I said to the landlady if had been an awful experience, she just walked away completely uninterested, won’t go back ever, we have far better pubs a short drive away. Whatever happened to customer service!!

But now under new management the food has once again regained its former standard. The pub is cheap and cheerful and the food is standard pub grub but it is (now) well cooked. The atmosphere continues to improve as the locals are returning to rekindle the buzz that there used to be here. As well as alcoholic drinks you get a decent cup of tea or a coffee. Only part I didn't like was the squirty cream on top, would've much preferred just the ice cream. Staff were more than helpful, couldn't understand why the place wasn't busy?? Popped here with family one Saturday for lunch. The food wasn't horrible, and the bill wasn't expensive - but there just wasn't anything that excited me about the menu or the meal. Thought id try a pub which isnt on our usual list of chain pubs. Pub is quite well presented and was about half full. Ordered double stack of ribs (£10.99), cottage pie and one kids meal. Both adult portion size's were smaller than what you get elsewhere. To put in into context, the 'giant plate' ribs had only about 20% more food but cost almost 3 times more than the kids meal! Also the 'double stack' is not true. The menu shows a half rack and a double stack rack of ribs. The half rack is £3.50 cheaper. Strangely what turned up was a small (9 ribs) rack cut in half. When I asked where the double stack was I was told the menu was actually wrong and it should say a double stack of half ribs! Both mains came with almost no veg and I had to pass on my salad as it was all flaccid. Wifes baby carrots were hard.To summarise, the pub is ok but the portions are smaller than you might expect for what you end up paying.

At £3.99 for two courses on there special offer menu for OAPs before 6pm, what's not to like?? Actually, my friend and I were a bit apprehensive but as our 'respectives' were out for the evening we decided to try the local pub. We were so pleasantly surprised. Its tenancy has recently changed so we have admiration for the new folk. The service was excellent, the food too. The house wines came up to standard and all in all a great experience. As we arrived, people were busy outside renovating and painting the outdoor furniture - and making a good job too. We learnt that the landlady was out there pitching in on her day off. Good for her. Would recommend this pub and will be back to sample further delights from the varied menu soon.

We stayed at the hotel for two nights to attend a family wedding. The hotel is in the centre of Southwell. It has very nice outdoor seating. We ate on the terrace on the first night and the food was very good. It is a very old building so very traditional. Staff service was superb at all times. The wedding was very well organised. Our room was comfortable and beautifully decorated with a nice bathroom. There is plenty of parking behind the hotel. The points I would make for improvement are :- 1. It was incredibly difficult to book once the wedding couple had requested that rooms should be reserved for the wedding party. This just wasn’t possible by telephone and I ended up writing a letter to request a booking. 2. The top floor rooms were very hot. A fan was provided which was very effective but it was puzzling that the corridor was cool and the rooms were hot. We had to have the fan on most of the time 3. The wedding meal service was a little bit slow. Each guest had a card at the place setting with their chosen dishes and I wonder if the managers could speed up the service by having the dishes listed on the card colour coded? However, we had a really nice stay in a beautiful location. I would definitely stay again and I would recommend the hotel to others looking for a great location for a wedding or other event.
