Fox & Hounds in Newark and Sherwood

Lovely meal, considering we were a large family party(25). The staff were friendly professional and all meals were delivered on time and to the right people. I personally had the festive pie which I could highly recommend but all food was warm well presented and the portion size are definitely on the generous side. Will definitely visit again.

Went today for a family meal and it was brilliant. Good service and amazing food! Three roast dinners - very tasty and big portions too! Cajun salmon which was delicious and a fish pie which was yummy too! Plus, the halloumi fries for starter. Would definetly recommend this beautiful pub!

I’ve been to many places for Sunday lunch and this place is the best! Everything was cooked to perfection, portions are a good size, desserts are delicious and the staff go above and beyond.. I’m only booking Sunday lunch here!

Probably the best Sunday lunch we’ve ever had! Visiting the UK we went to the Fox and Hounds for Sunday lunch and it was that good we rebooked for the following weekend before we flew home .. really good place food and staff

Went last night and had the Cajun Salmon, which was delicious. My partner had the mix grill, he said the pulled pork was to die for. The portions are huge. Staff are very friendly and efficient. Slightly iver priced but shall definitely return.

The food and atmosphere was excellent also the service was second to none. Will definitely go again in the future.

Always a superb dining experience; the very best in 'pub grub', locally sourced produce, home cooked and skillfully presented without pretention. The menu is comprehensive and options for diverse dietary requirements are catered for. The staff are friendly and attentive and the establishment is very obviously well managed.

(one of the best sunday lunches I’ve ever had out) The (I assume) landlady came round to our table and made us all feel extremely welcome, she was so accommodating to my friend who ate gluten free, and made the trip even more special. Most pubs nowadays seem to deliver mediocre sizes of Sunday lunches and require you to pay £5 for sides to make up the meal, but not here. I cannot recommend this pub highly enough, thank you to everyone working there for making every trip worthwhile.

Had a nice Sunday Lunch and was good value. We had the roast beef. Staff were on the ball and friendly. Our party of 10 was very happy with their meals.

Visited with our dog on a Saturday night. If you are in the area, this should be top of your list. The staff are helpful and attentive, the landlady ensures all customers are looked after and the chef delivers excellent food. Portions are large and the quality is first rate. To top things off there is a good choice of beer. Fantastic place.

Booked for 5 persons 4pm Thursday 24th October, being all over 60 was dissapointed when very noisey children and family was sat close by. Staff very attentative to that table but no ours. On first entering Service for drinks good, however, I had to ask to order food. Food great and plentiful. NO STAFF CAME TO ASK IF EVERYTHING OK WIYH FOOD OR IF MORE DRINKS REQUIRED. We would have ordered another round but the 4 staff at the bar seemed too occupied ? Not with customer service. Although bad service today 😕 great food and hopefully call back when better staff on duty. Never been dissapointed before, this was a bad day 😔 second drink at home

This place was banging. Booked for a Friday night which was good as it was so busy. Go with a big appetite as thr portions are great for someone like me with a big appetite. Will definitely be coming back

One of the best kept secrets in Mansfield. A huge thank you to all the staff for hosting a Ruby Wedding anniversary. Your staff and chefs are a credit to the pub. The menu is fantastic and some of the highest quality pub food I’ve had at very reasonable prices and great portion sizes. Keep up the great work!

We visited for a family birthday meal and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food. The Sunday dinner was beautiful and fresh and the pies were also a real treat with proper home cooked chips. All staff were lovely and helpful and they were really accommodating letting us bring a birthday cake and sorting the candles etc…. Thank you for a fantastic meal. We will be back.

High quality ingredients and big portions Excellent

Arrived. Asked if dogs were allowed in. They pointed me to where we needed to be with the dog. Orderd drinks, sat down, chatting away. Landlady come up and said you can't sit there . " its reserved for people eating" nothing on table saying reserved? I felt she was very abrupt and only wanted people in who were eating to maximise her profits. Nothing polite about her tone. Upset my wife and we had to move outside. To say we will never go back there, is an understatement. Not unless change of ownership.

We finished a recent UK holiday with a trip to the Fox & Hound for a meal and catch-up with friends. A standout was the meals. I don't think anything that came out was small in serving size and all were well plated. The proof is in the eating, which didn't disappoint as all of our group loves their meals and some neighbouring tables we got chatting to, also enjoyed theirs. I ordered the Haddock & Chips...I was delivered a portion of fish that could have been mistaken for a whale it was so bloody big. Beer was cold and there are quite a few offerings to choose from. Well worth the visit.

had been clay shooting.called in for a pint.sat in "best room" restaurant type area because two children and their poorly behaving parents had took over other room.bought two pints of lager and a pint and a half of cider.£20.40 ouch.then harrassed by a member of staff to buy food.ie would the four of you like to share two fish n chips🙄.basicaly we were treated like nobodys cause we were taking up a dining table i think.dont go there unless you want to empty your wallet for a mediocre country style pub.try the waggon in hallam about five miles away.pleasant staff and lovely village pub with good menu.

I’ve been here a handfuls of times now, ordered food every time, and it’s always been an excellent experience. I’ve tried a few things on the menu, the meatballs and date pudding are divine! The portions are very generous and I can never eat all of the main meal, but the staff are always beyond accommodating to box it up for us, on our last visit the waiter even boxed it up with fresh gravy and veg! What great service. I think one of the best pubs I’ve visited.

A special first date spoilt by poor food and poor service. Starters were good but main courses very poor snd no staff follow up, Steak overcooked, mashed potato arrived late and was cold, chicken breast was overcooked and very dry. We both left most of our main course. As regular visitor to the F&H this was very disappointing

Some friends invited us out for an evening meal, and we were happy to agree when we knew we were going to the Fox & Hounds. We’ve had a few meals here over the years, and for the most part, they’ve been quite good. This was no exception. The pâté starter was very pleasant, very meaty, slightly spicy, but very enjoyable. For mains, I ordered the mixed grill, but minus any vegetable products, this came exactly as I hoped it would everything cooked perfectly, and just as I liked it. The only issue was that some of my foods food, still made it onto my plate. Obviously, I removed the grass product and placed it in a napkin away from my meat feast. Definitely recommend this place for an evening meal

Great food, very large portions and friendly staff. Very out of the way and they have plenty of outdoor seating. Lovely for a summers afternoon dinner!

This pub is quite local to us, so we have been before, but we were very disappointed. To start of with, cutlery wasn't very clean. The food wasn't up to usual standard, the salmon was dry, mushy peas didn't look appetising, staff were inattentive, no-one came to check everything was okay and we had to ask for the plates to be cleared. The pub was not busy, the staff were busy chatting at the bar. Overpriced for what we had. Do not intend to visit again in the near future.

Myself and my partner went for a meal here last night. The food was fantastic and the staff were pleasant would highly recommend. Liver pate starter x2 Lasagna with fries Gammon and chips.

This was my first with my husband and friends. It's a lovely place to visit for the wonderful food - the Sunday lunch I had was up there with some of the best I've ever had. The portions are very generous, so make sure you're hungry! The staff are wonderful and the place is welcoming and ambient. I wouldn't hesitate to return to try something from the main menu.

Wonderful food, friendly staff. Relaxed and clean environment. We have tried many options on the menu and always really enjoyed the meals. Our son compares every burger to the fox and hound burger - nothing has come close. Would recommend.

Best Sunday lunch I’ve had in a long time. Amazing service, they were so patient with us catching up with another family of four friends we haven’t seen in 8 years. They moved other tables around as we were in our spot for nearly 4 hours. Can’t speak highly enough of this place. Next time we visit the Uk we will make this our local.

A friend and I went for lunch on a Tuesday, we didn't book before but there was no problem in getting a table. A few minutes after we sat with our drinks a party of 6 arrived and sat at an adjoining table.. unfortunately they were very noisy and shouty which meant we couldn't have a proper conversation. Our lunch was very good although initially my friend was given the wrong meal, her salad dressing came a few minutes after her meal was served but nevertheless we enjoyed our lunch.

A nice little country pub. We visited for a friend's birthday recently, but both times I have visited, I have noticed a problem with flies. I have sat in 2 opposite ends of the pub, and both times, we have been bothered by multiple flies whilst eating, which is a shame as the pub itself is lovely. On a positive note, staff are lovely and friendly. The food has always been very tasty with great portion sizes, but the prices are surprisingly high compared similar places. £8 for a piece of chocolate fudge cake feels very steep!

Always so welcoming! My child was having a melt down and everyone was so lovely helping me with him. Even trying to rush his food along, offering to shout us in from the garden when the food was done! We ordered him a kids Sunday dinner and the land lady came over and said she’s cancelled that she will bring us a plate as we have ordered more than enough food for him to get a full meal off my dinner! And she was right the portions are amazing and the food is soooo good! I also found this really thoughtful as I don’t like food wastage and it made our bill cheaper! It’s those little extra touches that make me and my family keep coming back! Thank you!x

Me and my misses had a roast beef dinner. I have to say it's one of the finest beef dinners we have ever had. We will definitely be going again. The staff were extremely helpful and service was excellent. I did notice other people's orders and they looked incredible as well. Great location. You need to try the Fox and hound as soon as you can.

Recently visited for a meal, I went for a ‘blid’th burger’ it was absolutely beautiful. Burger was cooked to perfecting, decent chunky chips and fresh slaw. Well worth a visit and will definitely be back! Table next to us had a roast it looked amazing!

After a very long walk we went here for lunch which we had pre booked.We had a friendly welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. The food is not the cheapest but the quality, taste ,presentation and volume was 2nd to none. Only problem for me was I was so full that I didn't get chance for a dessert so I will have to return.

Food was good but meals were huge and expensive

Lovely food as always but way too much on plates, so much food being wasted not because it’s not good couldn’t eat it all. The chef must not like to see this I’m sure and food waste in these times is a dreadful thing. Reducing prices and size of meals would mean people might order extra courses?? Just a thought

My friends took me here for Sunday lunch. I would say make sure to come hungry as the portions are HUGE. We only had a snack hours before, so we were definitely ready to eat. The Sunday roasts were delicious and came with huge portions of potatoes, parsnips, Yorkshire pudding, and veg. I also loved the braised cabbage. The service was great as well. The place was quite busy at 4 p.m. on a Sunday, but we had reservations. It was a great experience--I highly recommend!

The vegan pot pie was so good! I've not had vegan gravy and it was so satisfyingly savory. This was one of my favorite, top 3 meals, in England! Cute pub in the country with horses nearby neighing.

We popped in here while out for a drive , we decided to eat here , it looked great .. we had the salmon and the mixed grill . But sadly my husband , did not like the sausage so I had a taste and it was off , i was ok but my husband got food poisoning and has been being sick from 7pm . Hopefully this is a one off as it was really nice there and staff seem great .

Saturday visit = very busy and staff working hard but still great service. Don't be put off by the slightly higher prices, the portions are epic and the food delicious. We shared Whitebait which was very generous and one of the nicest we've had in a long long time. Steak and ale pie delicious and great crust, chips were brilliant and gravy was thick and rich. Worth a trip any time of day!

Great food Sunday dinner. Excellent service although dessert was served to the table behind us and left with them for several minutes until waitress realized and bought it to our table. We would have expected that if our food was given to someone else we would have received a freshly made replacement rather than one left on another customers table for a period. Was rather offputting. Would definitely visit again But this needs to be addressed

Always one of our favs, we had family over from Australia and made a last minute booking for 13 of us for a busy Sunday afternoon, nothing was too much trouble , not rushed at all, friendly staff, amazing food and the sun was out so couldn’t ask for any more 😎

Child's food came out sausage and mash. Just a dollop of mash, two sausages jammed in. It was too spicy for my child to eat. I had high hopes for the place. I noticed after I checked the menu that all dishes came with peas or mixed vegetables etc. when I questioned why we didn't have any it was insinuated I should have asked. I never knew. I assumed it came with a couple of extras. In fairness she fetched some peas. No gravy with it. Disappointing really and too spicy to be on the kids menu. As far as I'm aware there's not many kids like spicey stuff.

Main dish was magnificent!!! Totally worth the price. How ever my pudding was just chocolate cake and cream... not worth over £8

I really like the Fox and Hound but this particular time we were placed in the snug....not ideal when you are a couple. One family were lovely two very small children and a dog all well behaved....then there was a Grandma,daughter and two older children...it was the family from hell...very noisy, table manners were appalling (and that was Grandma) the children never sat were up and down, both adults were up and down going out side to vape. So I would suggest when you ring too book ask where you will be sitting...as never again would I sit in thst room. It spoilt my birthday meal and it didn't make it a nice experience and that's a shame as we love to go to the Fox and Hound as the food is superb 👌

Visited 4/24 as a family of 6 for my daughter's birthday. A real mixed bag of very good and mediocre. First thing to say is that the portions are huge for starters (which is unusual) and mains - we had no room for desserts, so be warned! All our starters were great and well presented but several of the mains were disappointing. I had chilli, which was dry; another of our group had the blade of beef which was also dry and very chewy. The truffle and parmesan fries were quite limp and didn't taste of truffle - and were expensive. Service, whilst cheerful and friendly, wasn't very attentive - we had empty glasses left uncleared throughout our meal and I don't remember being asked at any stage if our food was OK. Would certainly return but consistency is the key.
