The cafe has a terrific position just under the old walls with a handy carpark on the doorstep and marvellous views over Tweed estuary, the sea and the famous three bridges that span the mouth of the river at this historic spot. We opted for the fresh crab open sandwich (£13.90) which was very generous with delicious sweet white and dark fresh crabmeat, plenty of interesting salad and good bread. As it was a sunny day all the outside tables were already taken but we were comfortable inside. A very tempting display of cakes and desserts also beckoned, so we indulged in the triple cream layered Victoria sandwich. Good coffee, interesting tea selection, pleasant table service. A great discovery, we will definitely return.

Me and my family alongside close friends went to the Cafe, we were met by one horrible old woman, firstly before being served we were told only one person is aloud in to order, then when we sat outside she came out and stated we couldn't sit there as we were ordering drinks for takeout. As you can imagine we walked away without buying anything. I hope people opt for other cafe's in the area as grotbags is horrible to have front of house.

Called in here after our visit to the Lowry by the Sea exhibition at the nearby Granary. It's in a lovely location by the Tweed estuary and close to the city walls. Sadly the weather wasn't up to much but we took a table outside and were served very quickly. I chose a latte and my friend tea. To eat I opted for a crumble cake with a salted caramel sauce. My friend chose a fruit scone which was served with generous amounts of clotted cream and strawberry jam. I don't think I would go for the crumble cake again. It was one of those confections which look good but lack substance. It was incredibly sweet too, although that shouldn't have been a surprise as the waitress did warn me. My friend's scone was pronounced lovely. The accompanying wasp thought so too so we beat a hasty retreat into the safety of the cafe itself. Prices are reasonable, the service is good and staff very friendly. Perhaps not a five star rating but there's no reason why we wouldn't return.

Another favourite coffee shop in the area, with very good coffee. We both had a scone, one cheese and one fruit, and they were excellent. The other cakes looked too tempting and we succumbed to taking out 2 slices of lemon drizzle cake for later (which were also lovely). Situated at the side of the River Tweed as it flows out to sea, it is an excellent pit stop on a riverside walk. Good products and good service.

Staff are lovely and always busy - so may not have loads of time to chat but always welcoming. We also love sitting outside - it feels like a street cafe in a lovely European town. Thank you and well done - always 👍

Spotted this place as we headed back to the car park by the quay. Planned to have a coffee but the crab sandwich looked so good. As we were a group we had two crab sandwiches and some mozzarella toasties too. The food was soo tasty but the crab sandwiches were another level. We followed up with cakes and coffee which were all delicious. Definitely worth a return visit.

Had a delicious lunch yesterday at this very friendly place. The open crab sandwich and panini were very tasty. There was a large selection of herbal teas and I can certainly recommend the lemongrass and ginger. My husband enjoyed his 2 flat whites. Both the tea and coffee are locally sourced in Newcastle. The two homemade cakes we had were very yummy. We sat outside with our dog who loved the fuss they made of her and they even brought her her own water bowl. All in all a great find and we will certainly be back when visiting the area in the future.

Sat outside and had two drinks - I ordered a strong flat white - it came as a standard white coffee. After finishing went in to the toilet and to pay. I was heading for the toilet (at the back) when a voice cried 'can I help you' - not needing any help I carried on. 'Can I help you' again - I looked round and there was a member of staff stood behind me staring at me - by this time other customers were looking. I said just going to the toilet - the loud reply was 'are you a customer'. I said yes (we had been there over half an hour) and asked 'I presume if you aren't then you aren't allowed to use it?' - no answer. On the way out I paid - there was no 'thank you' or 'goodbye'- I thought 'welcome to Berwick'. I presume Lowrys is NOT part of the 'use our loo' scheme. My wife received a similar questioning. As it was approaching lunchtime we left and went to the Granary - through the stone arch opposite, left and it's the cream building in front you. A lovely restored building that is now a Youth Hostel with a cafe and bistro. The profits go to a good cause.

We visited Hexham yesterday and found this café in the Market Place, after a lovely River Tyne walk. It was quite busy at 1pm but we didn't have to wait long for our table. The girls made us feel very welcome and worked so hard while we were there clearing tables and getting everyone seated as soon as possible. My husband had a bacon sarnie and I had a ham and mushroom omelette which was so light and fluffy, delicious. Coffees were great too. Plenty of choice on the menu and great prices. Doggy friendly too with a treat for pooch 🐾

What a welcoming, hospitable place. If you ever need cheering up, this is the place to go. We were made welcome immediately, and tony the owner had us in stiches from the start. Everyone there were so friendly, and what had started as an intended short visit, led to us staying to closing. Met some brilliant characters, who all just made our day. Dog friendly too, which was an added bonus to us. Can't recommend enough.
