Nice to see a small but very well executed menu Lots pubs in the area tend to have very predictable menus such be as nice to see 5 or 6 things I fancied choosing Ended up with the special which was a lamb hot pot and was delicious Portions aren’t huge but filled us all up Will be back Pleasant staff

A very enjoyable lunch, great food and very friendly staff. It is good to see The Loughpool in the excellent hands of James and his team.

A country pub which appears to be more like a restaurant. We went there on a very wet Sunday. The pub is rural and no doubt is great on a warm summers day (remember those?) The occasion was my retirement from work which was shared when booking. Whilst it was acknowledged - that's it, nothing more (and no I don't expect). The menu is set for Sundays. More refined dining compared to wholesome food. The food was nice and tasty. The staff were welcoming and attentive. Dogs are welcome - surprised as it was Sunday lunch. I was not annoyed by this. Most tables were occupied with some having young children. Again no issues with this. Would we use it again? Based on the high prices charged, it would be the exception and not a frequent choice.

Very good Sunday lunch with first ingredients and excellent presentation. This was our first visit since James took over at the Loughpool and he was welcoming and helpful. We hope to return but were slightly put off by the attendance of over zealous,poorly controlled and noisy dogs.

We have lived South Herefordshire for several years and have been blessed to have easy access to some very good pubs and restaurants. Our nearest pub is The Loughpool but in recent years we found it difficult to enjoy it just for a quick drink. The new owner James and his team have changed all that and now welcomes drinkers and restaurant goers equally. We have eaten there on three occasions since it opened and have been pleasantly surprised by just how good it now is. The food is first class, the atmosphere is cordial and of course the location goes without saying. We intend to visit regularly and look forward to the colder weather and Christmas when the log fire will be on, together hopefully with Mulled Wine 🙏 Can’t wait 😁

And certainly won't be our last. As ever, excellent service, delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere. Pub is situated in a delightful, out of the way spot. It's worth finding your way there.

The Loughpool has recently been taken over by a new team, we went to try the menu last night and were extremely impressed. Front of House were excellent and professional, they explained that the menu is being developed so they can perfect it which gave me the impression they were passionate about their food. Both my husband and I had the mushroom Dahl and it was exceptional. We had a warm positive vibe about the establishment and have book for Christmas already. We will defiantly use this as a regular place to eat.

Lovely welcome, very accommodating as we called in on spec. Nice ambience, everything a bonafide country pub should be. Great home cooked food, well presented, friendly service, even gave the dog a biscuit! Will certainly re-visit.

Unfortunately they do not take food allergies very seriously! I have clearly asked for a gluten & dairy free meal, which they assured me it was but that was not true as I felt ill with gluten halfway through my dinner & stayed unwell for the next 2 days! So not happy & will not bother going there again!

If you want a really great meal experience go to the Loughpool at Ross- on-Wye, we meet up there with my daughter,her husband & her inlaws for each of our birthdays, the food is amazing & the staff are fabulous, funny & so accomadating, we have never been dissapointed, can't wait for our next visit, try it you will love it.

I greatly enjoyed a birthday lunch at the Loughpool with my husband and son. The food was interesting and excellent and the service was really efficient and friendly. Everything was just right and we left determined to return before too long.

I actually visited the Loughpool in September of 2022 but TripAdvisor won't allow a year+ old reviews. But tough! I was visiting nearby Gloucestershire as a birthday getaway arranged by my GF and was looking for a destination for a highly thought of Sunday lunch visit. After booking a couple of other places and subsequently having to cancel I came across the Loughpool online. Encouraged by the reviews we booked it and on the Sunday morning made the half an hour drive to get there. Upon arrival we were deeply impressed by the visage. A very pretty pub whose staff warmly encouraged to come in as we had arrived bang on opening time. After entering we were offered our choice of tables and picked a beautifully tucked away little table in a nook. Light and airy - it was a delightfully romantic spot. After placing our orders and getting a drink we weren't left waiting long for our food. For a starter I plumped for the pea and wild garlic soup - which was outstanding. So much so I tried to replicate the recipe a day or two after our break ended! Our mains arrived not long after. The roast beef we plumped for was outstanding. Tender and perfectly cooked. The sides were excellent. Everything you want in a roast. Alas, we weren't able to spend longer at the Loughpool as we had boozy birthday plans in Gloucester, but - given the opportunity - I don't doubt we would have. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. The other clientele were pleasant, quiet and polite. This was a very memorable visit - I'm just sorry I didn't review it sooner. Many apologies, Loughpool.

Had a wonderful lunch here, having discovered the place quite by accident. I think they should be actively encouraging customers to leave Tripadvisor reviews to raise their profile! Everything is homemade on the premises, including the most wonderful bread. The food really is fabulous.

Wow, what a fantastic place, if you want something extra special then this is the place to go; amazing food and very friendly staff, cannot fault it, will be booking again next time we visit Ross on Wye.

The risotto with stuffed chicken breast is gorgeous, one of the tastiest dishes I have had in a long time. My friends loved their meals too. Looking forward to returning.

Friday 9th December 2022 - A family dinner for 6 adults with ages ranging from 24 to 67. We received a genuinely warm welcome, and being fairly early were offered a choice of tables. The ambience is cosy, friendly and relaxed. Tables are well spaced apart and large enough to accomodate diners comfortably. Service was simply excellent. There was a decent choice on the menu, plus a Specials board, so everyone could find dishes they really wanted, and there wasn't a dud dish in sight - all was top class. This was such a relaxed and convivial family meal. Five stars to the Loughpool...if only there was such a place in my home town of Monmouth!

We are staying in the area with friends who took us for dinner at The Loughpool. Mid-week evening it was pleasantly busy. The welcome and attention of the staff was great - we had booked ahead and it was clear they were expecting us. There was a wide choice of dishes on the menu (and a specials board), it was hard to choose as they all sounded interesting and reference many local ingredients. The food arrived promptly, was beautifully presented and amazingly tasty. It was one of the best meals we’ve had in ages - we would not hesitate to recommend it and would love to return next time we are in the area. Thanks to the owners and staff for a lovely and memorable meal.

Lovely food nice atmosphere. Just a little difficult to find. Sat nav took us 1.5 miles away but thats not their fault of course. Just be warned. Don't use their post code o a tomtom!

Our trip to the brewery included the tour and 2 course lunch. The tour guide Ruth was extremely knowledgeable and very welcoming. At the end of the tour Ruth gave detailed explanations for all the tasting samples we were given. The meal in the restaurant was delicious and the staff friendly and efficient. All in all a very good experience and value for money. The shop also has a great range of the ciders produced in the brewery

Our first meal out since early March and The Loughpool certainly didn’t disappoint. A warm and friendly welcome from Svenia and her team with all the Covid-19 rules and regulations perfectly in place but managed so cleverly and professionally that you hardly noticed them. We’ve been loving The Loughpool Saturday night takeaways during lockdown but it was great to be back having dinner in the pub. We made the most of Paul’s wonderful cooking with 3 courses each and as always everything was delicious. We’ll be back again soon.

Everything you could want in a country pub is here. A warm welcome, roaring fire, lovely people, great drink and excellent food. We visited on a cold, wet Thursday evening after a very bad day and went home cheered and happy. As it says, the food is freshly cooked - the garlic mushrooms on toast starter were to die for - and nothing was too much trouble. My husband wanted thin cut fries (they do chunky chips) so they kindly cut everything down and he got fabulous crispy thin fries. Excellent steak and lovely tasty pork belly. Good wine and drinks list. Very dog friendly too - Woody approved of the treats! We'll definitely be going back. Thankyou Paul and your staff.

My second review of this pub, my first for a lunch some two and a half years ago, now this one for dinner on a Tuesday night where there were quite a few dining. I do not usually do this but felt I had to because it was so good. Really nice people, really efficient and really good food. I would say the fare is pub food but it is by no means a typical pub menu. It is a nice varied selection, not too large with a good specials board, unpretentious, well-cooked and well-presented. They are what they are and they do it very well indeed. I cannot fault them, nothing was lacking. The drinks order was taken quickly and the menu choice came out of the kitchen quickly too. The dining is comfortable in welcoming surroundings. I am not a local and will probably not be in the area again which is my loss because I love to support establishments like this, a family business who are providing such a good service.

The least welcoming pub I’ve ever been to, from the moment we walked in the lady made us feel unwelcome. We were made to sit next to the toilets that smelt terrible, then changed their mind and moved us to their restaurant after 30 mins or so. We went to celebrate my sister in law’s birthday and this completely ruined the evening.

12 of us went for Sunday lunch today to celebrate a family birthday. We had 6 children with us and the staff were so friendly- offering a choice of high chairs for the baby. The food was absolutely delicious, with everyone enjoying the roasts and the puddings. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly, we will definitely visit again and recommend to others. We had a great experience here with excellent steaks for myself & my brother-in-law, the wives also enjoyed their meals. Slight hiccup on non arrival of one of the starters, was quickly corrected & started produced at no charge.

I’ve heard varying reports of this pub/restaurant recently so approached the evening with some trepidation.My concerns were ill founded though. The pub itself is lovely and the staff more than accommodating. As others have said the menu isn’t extensive but there is enough variety. The quality of the food was excellent; I’d go as far to say that the quantity of my spicy lamb starter was far too much, it was a main course in itself. My “Duo of Beef” main course was superb, my wife and friends each chose the sirloin steak which was well received but I think my choice was the best.I didn’t have a dessert, very rarely do; but the others served all received rave reviews.In summary, great pub, great food, good service and reasonably priced.Will definitely return.

This pub was recommended by our local hosts. It was warm and cosy inside, with small groups of tables dotted around the pub.The menu isn’t huge, but had plenty of choice, including steak, burgers, duck and a veggie option. My husband had pork belly which was beautifully presented with sliced vegetables and mash. For desert we ‘shared’ a perfectly presented meringue with a warm fruit compote and ice cream.The pub was full of families, locals and holiday makers and everyone was welcome (including well behaved dogs)

Second time here in the last couple of months, started with haddock scotch eggs and main of Burger topped with brisket. Both very enjoyable initial wait for food quite long but time between courses very good. Serve a good pint of ale.

We were staying nearby and our hosts recommended The Loughpool. It was a great recommendation as the food was great and the staff very helpful. They only had one choice of vegetarian meals but with no hassle they changed another dish to suit me. I had a risotto followed by chocolate brownie and both were so good. We will definitely visit them again when we are in the area.

Four visits in 6 months and every one spot in, this is a great country pub with delicious food and lovely service - something that sounds so simple but is so hard to find. We have had lunch and dinner here, in the bar and restaurant, and really enjoyed both. The menu is not massive but we (nor our friends) have ever been disappointed. Fish, duck, burgers, pies and steaks all well cooked and presented, often with a difference. A friend recently proclaimed his steak the best he’d ever had in a pub! Specials above the fireplace add to the choice. Puds also excellent if you’ve got room.

After choosing to go for a walk in the country we found the loughpool and decided to have a quick drink. we asked if they had any tables for lunch but sadly they were fully booked, One of the staff asked if we would like to wait and have a drink and see if a table became available. Within 10 minutes one became available. The food was fabulous and the service excellent. If you’re in the area and are looking for a top-notch Sunday roast I can highly recommend this place

Despite arriving without a booking and entering into an already very busy bar and restaurant we have to say a big thank you to Svenia for finding us a table last night. The food, as always, was excellent (the Brixham plaice was delicious and perfectly cooked), the service friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere wonderfully warm and relaxed. Another lovely evening to add to the many others we’ve enjoyed at The Loughpool.

Lots of locally sourced produce to choose from and our choices certainly didn't disappoint. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The pub was cosy and comfortable. We were made to feel very welcome.

We found this pub on our way to our BnB at the Red Rail so stopped for lunch. The food was delicious so decided to book for dinner. Can’t say how much we enjoyed eating at this pub, I had the lamb for dinner with meringue for dessert while my husband had the fish. The staff are super friendly and efficient the atmosphere and the building are fantastic. If you are visiting this area put it on your list you won’t be disappointed. I can’t believe how anyone could give this place a bad review.

Four of us visited on a Wednesday evening. Not in the main restaurant but in one of the little side rooms. It was really good to be able have a meal in a busy pub/restaurant and still be able to have a conversation without having to shout at each other to be heard.

I have reviewed the Loughpool before but I think I need to give it another one as we returned recently due to a family event and I thought to myself; this really is a nice place! The food is varied and very good. The specials, the wine list etc, but it’s also the people. They are so nice. So everything works from the warm welcome to the happy memories created by the enjoyable time spent there. Keep it going!

I had an amazing meal here to celebrate my birthday. It was probably the best meal I have had eating out this year. The menu had a really good choice. So much so that I struggled to pick what I would like. For starters I had the pork and chorizo scotch egg with a garlic mayo. It was perfectly cooked with a lovely soft texture. The main of cod with prawns was everything I could want in a main dish. Dessert of French lemon cake finished it off nicely. I felt comfortably full after three courses. The staff were really friendly. The pub decor was tasteful and felt homely. I would highly recommend eating here.

We recently called in again after our unfortunate previous experience having reserved a particular table for Sunday lunch which was allocated to someone else prior to our arrival. We however thought we would give the place another try. Alas this was a big mistake.

visited with hubby and friend for combined 60th Birthday who hapened to be a vegan , was a bit anxious about offerings but could not have been more delighted , put at ease by the waitress and wonderful suggestion from chef as we have eaten here before already knew it would be good , my vegan friend was so very very happy with his meal and staff as always were great

We were staying nearby in Ross and were recommended this by our AirBnB hosts. It was a Friday night and we rang ahead and as luck would have it they had just had a cancellation and could fit us in.

I was visiting the area and had lunch with my husband. It was one of the first warm days of May and I was looking forward to sitting outside. The bar-woman however informed us that as she was working alone there was no outdoor service. OK, I thought we'll eat indoors - but man was it cold in there! Most people had got their summery gear on, and one lady was seated with her Puffa coat around her shoulders so it wasn't just me being 'nesh'. I appreciate an open fire can't be put on at the drop of a hat but it's up to staff to check the ambiance and decide whether it's a comfortable temperature to sit and dine in. On this occasion it wasn't. Old buildings are usually chilly but this needs attention from the owner.

Last year we visited Lough pool and they had given our pre booked table (reserved) to someone else and seemed to think it was our fault. The service then went downhill from then on and it was not a successful evening. Our friends, who live nearby, persuaded us to give it another try. Well the service was a lot better, but I felt the food was only OK. Ross on Wye area is packed with good restaurants and Loughpool had better look to it’s laurels. It’s only just OK and it’s now pricey as well. I wouldn’t rush to return, especially when there’s Amazing new places such as Orles Barn nearby which is 100 times better. Sorry Lough pool, you just avoided getting a FAIL, but only just.

Can I just say what a wonderful meal we had yesterday at the Lough Pool, the service was amazing the staff polite, service excellent and the food was amazing, we will be back and thank you all for a wonderful experience.

We have been customers from the outset of your ownership to have highly commended your hostilary after it was taken over on the last occasion a few years ago, and have in fact written favourable reviews in the meantime. However on a recent occasion I reserved a particular table for Sunday lunch and was promised the table for two at the side of the fire. However on our arrival we were told that our reserved table has been re-allocated to a regular couple and we were relocated to a table for two near the door and passageway. Not exactly what we had anticipated as a celebratory Sunday lunch. We however reluctantly accepted.

Warm welcoming upon arrival, all the staff were lovely and friendly. We was shown to our table in the bar area which was next to the amazing wood burner. We decided to go straight into mains (the duck and salmon) they was both delightful, full of flavour as well as beautifully cooked/presented. Compliments to the chef! This was then followed by the cheeseboard and the brownie, once again both beautifully presented.

Food lovely, a meal for three, good wine, good food, very reasonably priced three mains one pud £107.00 very good so far - but the last ten minutes of an enjoyable evening was completely ruined by the staff crashing cutlery into a metal bucket then noisily crashing it into the cutlery drawer, taking the cutlery out of the drawer and equally as noisily laying the tables! We were the only remaining three diners left in the restaurant part of the pub - the staff could have easily asked us, as we had just finished our meal, to move into the bar to finish our drinks if they wished to close that section and set tables. We felt that it was a blatant move to get us out as quickly as possible so they could go home. At 9.45 p.m.hardly late, we could not endure the noise any longer and hurriedly left our table to pay. Instead of our homeward journey praising the food - I left with the beginnings of a headache and we spoke only of how rude the staff had been for the entire 30-minute journey home. Very badly done The Lough Pool, outrageously rude! This was my Mothering Day dinner with my daughter who had travelled from London to spend an evening with me - completely ruined.

Visiting recently for dinner all four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The atmosphere was good and the staff attentive which made the evening very pleasant. This was our second visit and we shall be back again soon.

Been several times as its our new favorite since we stumbled upon it last summer , had lunch last week and it was perfect , the lady behind the bar was very friendly and cheery nothing too much trouble

Fabulous food, difficult to choose as such a nice menu, lovely warm woodburner. Only let down was the grumpy blonde lady serving.

Pretty black and white pub down lovely country lanes, well known locally, new owners made great improvements. Previously had an evening meal last year which was excellent, this time Sunday lunch had been recommended. Smoked salmon with poached egg as a starter, just short on salmon. Onion soup below average, tasted out of a tin. Roast lamb ok as was the beef, others had hake. Biggest complaint, the food was stone cold by the time the veg arrived, but there were extra veggies on offer. Desserts were ok, good coffee in large mugs. Sorry, could have been better, maybe they were just TOO busy, however, the girls waiting table were great fun and efficient.
