Totally overpriced tasteless roast dinner, served by most unfriendly staff. Watery gravy with no flavour. Served by sour faced staff... Pizza chef eating and using his phone with the same hand as throwing ingredients on the bad pizza. Get over yourselves lord Stanley

We came here because my son lives nearby. They don't take bookings unless 8 people or more, but we got a table easily enough. Casual wooden tables, order food & drinks from the bar. Staff were efficient & friendly. An interesting list of specials up on the blackboard, including vegetarian options plus a good selection of excellent pizzas. A wide selection of interesting wines by the glass. Food was really good & reasonably priced, clearly made in the kitchen, rather than some pub pre-prepared meals.

The Stanley's been a fixture for me for many years. Always a totally relaxing place to visit, with an ever changing cast of friendly, chatty young staff. Latest star is the charming Rose who is v helpful and funny with it - no thorns on Rose! As others have mentioned, they got in a proper pizza oven a while back and they are lovely. The menu is right up to the minute and I usually have to check the name of an ingredient or two. I've just had a simple soup of Jerusalem artichoke, mushroom and thyme which was divine and good value. Great wine list but I'd like a few more standard bitters - not being a fan of doom bar

Dennoch: empfehlenswert.

I never write reviews, I'm not that guy, but the bar staff in this pub were so awful that I set up an account. I ventured in for lunch early one Saturday, to be met by 3 dead-eyed muppets behind the bar that could not have been more contemptuous of my seemingly onerous request for a pint and a bit of beef shin.

All reviews are correct - generic neighborhood pub with gastropub elements; food is good but not that good; beer is very good but then beer is beer; neighborhood atmosphere but this neighborhood is pretty hipster; staff is yea kinda friendly sometimes; it's ridiculously noisy. One can go and also not. But actually the desert was, if very sweet, excellent (apple crumble), so I would say "good" if that were an option om tripadvisor.

I came here on my own whilst away for work as it was located near my hotel. I forgot my glasses so couldn't quite read the the chalk board menu so I asked the barman for his recommendation and went with that. Was a great choice, very tasty and full plate of food. Though I was sat on my own in the pub and it was a busy sunny day, I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. The lady who brought out the food was very friendly and welcoming. Great food and great staff

Call me a Philistine but when I see an old fashioned boozer I expect to find traditional pub grub - done well. I wasn’t expecting to find one of the most arty-farty menus I’ve ever seen in a pub. Smashed avocado, grilled aubergine, halloumi, etc, etc. Where are the fish and chips and the burgers? I don’t think I saw French Fries anywhere on the menu (apologies if it was there but the writing on the blackboard was not the easiest to read). We finished our pints and left in search of proper food. The beer was OK.

I stopped by to have a quick dinner on the recommendation of a friend who lives in the neighborhood. The place is a traditional pub updated for the hipster crowd. Nice menu. I sat at the bar after waiting for the barman to finish a chat with a colleague. I ordered a drink and dinner. The pasta was ok, if a bit under flavored. I couldn’t finish it and asked if they could wrap it so I could take it home. Nope. Nothing doing. So I left more than half of my 11 pound dinner behind. Where is the manager? Get the place some tinfoil and tell your staff to stop chatting with each other when a customer walks in and you will have a great thing going.

Very disappointing visit for Sunday lunch - out first and last. As with some other reviewers we found the staff pretty off-hand. We had checked the menu online and I had decided on the lamb. When my husband tried to order this he was told in a very off-hand way to check the board. He chose the pork for us both and it came more or less immediately - never a good sign in my view as it means everything has been just sitting there, ready, keeping warm (although that was wishful thinking). The food was delivered to our table without a word and we tucked in. The roast potatoes were cold and had the taste of ones that had been prepared hours earlier, they definitely weren't freshly cooked. The vegetables were cold too, the only hot things on our plate were the meat and gravy which meant overall it was lukewarm. There were roast baby carrots, mine were burnt and inedible. The pork was an odd choice of cut, ribs, which meant it was very fatty and fiddly to eat. I never usually complain to the staff about the standard of the food but decided I would have a word of constructive criticism when they came to take our plates away, expecting them to ask if everything had been OK. But they didn't come. We sat with out plates there for a good ten minutes having been forgotten in a corner so just got up and left. The price was reasonable for Camden, but the food was very mediocre, much more disappointing than we had expected. We live locally and had been planning to try it out for a while as it looked good from the outside, it was quite nice inside too, but the experience was not a good one and we won't be back.

No music, though usually enough guests to create an amiable atmosphere. The only critique of this place, and it's a pretty influential one, is the staff. It goes from mediocre to straight out poor service - especially if you have this girl called Nancy behind the bar, who just looks at you like she doesn't want to be there and it's all your fault. The best are the grunts in response to basic politeness. It's the kind of service that makes you question whether The Lord Stanley deserves going back to...

If we asked, we got - no bells and whistles but let's be very clear....they don't proclaim to be the bees knees....just a local pub! They do serve a good pint of guinness! worked for us!!

I can honestly say that it was the worst Sunday roast I had ever had. The potatoes had been cooked at least a few days before, were cold, chewy and horrible-tasting. The Yorkshire puddings were soggy (!) and cold. Whoever "cooked" the food should not call themselves a chef and the manager should be ashamed with the food he served us.

I came here a few times during my visit and really enjoyed it. Had the steak on one occasion and pizza on another a both were excellent - potatoes were amazing. The pints were fairly priced considering the location and the staff were very friendly to me. I would definitely recommend it.

I ate the roast chicken from this establishment and half an hour later reacted with severe Diarrhoea and sickness. I had to take off work for three days due to this reaction. The service was particularly poor and unfriendly. Needless to say I won't be going back and will encourage others not to as well.

I share the thoughts of disappointment with the last reviewer, Eleanor B. I was the one who paid the bill... I also had to quickly give one of our party 40p to discreetly 'powder her nose' shortly after leaving. Having rung said pub to complain that one of our party had a very upset tum (and was off work the following day), I was assured that a manager would return my call. Alas, I am still waiting.I am not going to repeat what Eleanor B has written; she has said all that needs to be said. Sadly, this establishment needs to drag itself kicking and screaming into the 21st century where customer service is the King. Clearly here, customer service is the Joker in the Pack.

I had been recommend this pub for a sunday lunch by a friend, and as its just down the road thought we would give it a try.I booked a table a week in advance to make sure and that was all fine, if we are going to be picky I would say the telephone manner wasn't the best.As soon as we arrived I mentioned we had reserved a table and all I got in return was a pointed finger to our table. We sat down but nobody came to the table, so went to the bar to ask and again was just pointed to a board on the wall. The general vibe from staff wasnt friendly and this put me off straight away. Nether the less we ordered 4 roasts, 3 beef and 1 chicken. The food when it arrived was barely luke warm, but we were so hungry by this point we couldn't be bothered to send anything back. Quite sparing on portions especially for the roast potatoes and yorkshires. Also what pub doesn't serve English mustard to have with roast beef?!The taste of the food was good but just not enough of it and should be served piping hot.We didn't have pudding, and when we asked if we could have the rest of the chicken left over packed to take home we were literally given a piece of foil to do it ourselves.Safe to say we shall not be returning, mainly due to the fact that 20 minutes after leaving my sister who was the only one to have had the chicken was very ill.

The manager was utterly rude and unprofessional. I paid £13 (not an insignificant amount) for a ticket to support my friend in a play in the upstairs room of the pub. I was slightly late due a hold up at work and a slow bus ride and the manager of the pub refused to let me go upstairs, and then launched into a tirade of abuse when I dared to challenge him. He called me a 'c**t'. Disgusting attitude. Seriously, don't bother, there are so many better pubs in Camden.Whats more he said he "didn't care" if I left a bad review on Tripadvisor -clearly he cares a lot about his reputation...

Highly recommended. This is the local pub near the flat where we are staying for a month. Have been a couple of times, once as a couple and once as a family group, and plan to go back. The food is excellent and everyone is very friendly.I would have ranked the service higher but there was a mixup with a dinner order that was pretty serious--however it was the night of the World Cup final and the server did absolutely the best she could to remedy.

Lovely cozy pub. Spent the whole afternoon here after only meaning to get a quick bite to eat. Lovely food and a very child friendly. Great service they were friendly and very helpful- heated my toddlers food for me and didn't scowl when I played on the piano with him. Nice to have found somewhere with lovely food that doesn't tell you off when your child makes abit of noise. We shall be back!

Thought we'd go in and have lunch on Sunday. Went in at about 1pm and sat in the yard. I asked for a menu at the bar and the barmaid unenthusiastically pointed to a chalk board round the corner of the bar (they dont do menus), in the furthest corner of the pub, as far away from the sunny yard as possible, where everyone was sitting on this lovely sunny bank holiday sunday. The unhappy, disinterested staff dont seem to want anyone to eat there. So we didnt.

I've been a local resident for 4 years and have gone to the pub once a week for all that time, but it is so hit and miss it's almost not worth it. The problem is that your experience depends completely on who's managing on the day and serving - sometimes it can be great, the food can be excellent and the service warm and friendly - and then other times it's a totally different team and they are awful. The overall manager is consistently miserable and scowls as if she's doing you a favour taking your order and makes you feel completely unwelcome. It's no surprise that they are losing the best staff to other pubs in the area - the Lord Palmerston to be specific - because if that's how they treat their customers imagine how they treat their staff?! I want to love my local pub and support it but in this case I really can't...

I live locally to this pub and have been many times. A great place to share a beer, and a nice beer garden for the summer, but do NOT EVER eat here. Having said that I have dined here many times with the food ranging from ok to not very nice: Over-priced fatty steaks served as prime cuts, the pasta is sometimes not too bad and occasionally the fish is edible. However last weekend (after promising myself never to eat here again) I saw oysters on the menu and thought, wow, these guys have upped their game. Maybe they've changed chefs - and the steak is even more expensive, so maybe they've finally started buying some nice cuts. I ordered both immediately. They oysters weren't the most pleasant, but I was mainly (and stupidly in hindsight) more disappointed with the steak which seemed to be cut from the cow's knee. or possibly just above the hoof. Whatever it was, there was more ligament than meat and I left half of it on the plate. Unfortunately all of this ramble is leading up to the fact that I spent the next 3 days in bed with food poisoning (presumably from the Oysters). I wrote to them to tell them what their food had done to me and I've still received no response. Hopefully this review will stop others from making the same mistake as I did. If you decide to go anyway: definitely do not eat the oysters. Only an idiot would do such a thing at a 3rd rate establishment anyway.

We live around the corner so we eat there quite often as the menu changes every 2-3 weeks so we don't get bored of their entries. I like that it's an understated pub that lets you sit there for hours with a beer (a friend treats that pub as his office when he is in town...). Usually the quality of the food has been consistently good and the menu always has meat, veggie and fish options. Out of about 10 meals I had there over the last year, about 5 of them were absolutely superb (ranging from nettle soup and butternut squash, sage and barley risotto to perfectly done cod and venison ragu), only one was disappointing (a salad that was way too oily and uninspiring) and the rest were perfectly OK. One thing I cannot understand though is that the restaurant is always out of bread and hummus appetizer. They have this delicious hummus with sumac that we failed to get the last 5 times there.... no matter how early we get there, they are either out of bread or our of hummus!

I live just around the corner and would love to have a great local. Sadly this is not the case. Everytime, without fail, I am let down by the service. The female weekend manager is exceptionally rude, regularly ignores customers and adds to the overall miserable atmosphere there. Today at 11am, after checking the opening hours online which said they were open at 10am, I was very rudely told through the door that they weren't open till 12. This for me was the final straw, I will be taking my custom to the Colonel Fawcett down the road.

We wondered if the Camden Fringe event had moved downstairs into the bar area with a performance of 'how miserable can I really be in my work'.Asking for drink or food was greeted by look of utter contempt. The guy behind the bar was ok, the woman was horrendous, making you wait at the bar while she was busy being busy, ages to be served, the place was empty, angry face, slamming salt and pepper down on table, she really did not want to be there and was intent on making you aware she didn't....Horrible. We looked at the receipt we had to ask for and it didn't say thank you on that either. The garden was nice, the boules, wish we had noticed earlier, but be cautious, do not go to this pub and inconvenience the staff.

This is local to a friend, so if we are in the area, we sometimes call in. The food has never been good - I'd go against most people who have reviewed and say stick with burgers/steak - seems the only thing that they do 'well'. Service is always hot and miss - i've lived in London for the last 10 years and was accused of being "a rude northerner" because I didn't say good evening to the barman serving me.Good selection of beers. Go for the beer, stay away from the bar and eat elsewhere - is the best bet.

I've tried to like this place as it just around the corner from my house but every time I come away disappointed. Sunday was the last straw, we walked in and were the only customers. The bar staff completley ignored us and carried on cleaning, after approaching the bar to order breakfast she was incredibly rude. She then proceeded to ignore another person that came in. The food arrived absolutley stone cold!! Baring in mind we were the only customers at the time in there, there is no excuse. Eggs benedict tastes awful cold (is it too much to ask to be served on a warm plate). My bf also had the big breakfast which was again cold. I will never come back here again.

My friend had booked for a party of 12 , however on arrival the manager had told us that he had given our table to a large walk in group. My friend had confirmed the booking with the restaurant via text and email, however the manager stated that as she had replied out of his working hours he could not confirm the booking. He said that he had called us multiple times but by the time he had called, we were already on our way to the restaurant and were underground and as such, didn’t have reception / service to receive or pick up a call .He then stated that we could sit in the lounge but we would have to leave by 9pm (1hr 30mins) as the lounge would be prioritised for those who wanting to watch the Anthony Joshua fight. He then gave us a second option of waiting an hour until the walk in party had finished.
