Booked a table as travelling half way to meet family for a Sunday lunch. Definitely worth a gamble, great pub with a lovely vibe, warm welcome, great Sunday lunch. Thank you. Exactly what we wanted. Starters, Sunday roast and deserts, all really good

We were on a roadtrip returning from cornwall and we found the pub via google due to its amazing reviews. Jayne helped us with our sunday roast which was incredible. We even left a jacket and she mailed it back to us. 10 out of 10. Highly recommend

The pub accommodated over 100 people with a special menu and great live music. The staff were friendly and efficient and the beer was good too. Couldn’t ask for more

A family holiday in topsham and decided to eat at the lord nelson I was not disappointed at all food was great especially the tapas night and then also had a great homemade pie it was sensational we noticed there was a northern soul night advertised so decided to go along the place was banging a brilliant night the hosts are very accommodating and the staff they have front of house cannot do enough for you if in topsham stop here you will not be disappointed at all

Finding somewhere to eat was not easy, but we came across this pub, and we found the food was very good .The service was excellent, and we didn't have to wait too long, and it came out hot .

Just had their red Thai curry, the best I’ve had for a long time. Wife had garlic mushrooms with chips, clean plate and daughter had veggey burger again clean plate…. A miracle!

What can i say i Really enjoyed my time in the Lord Nelson in Topsham The food was amazing especially the tapas night, the staff and management cannot do enough to make your visit memorable and the atmosphere on the northern soul evening was electric. I highly recommend a visit to sample great hospitality.

This is the best pub in topsham! Jayne and jon have put the the pub back on the map! Pete and Jimmy tonight on the bar were electric! Definitely recommend to anyone!

We walked in right as the kitchen closed and after a quick check in with the chef they still served us! Great staff and great food made for a great visit.

Went for Father's day (myself, hubby, son, my mum and dad) Jayne made us feel very welcome and answered any questions I didn't catch the name of our waiter, he done a great job and this showed in how he approached and spoke with us We all had a roast donner and commented on how good the carrots were The portions were good and the flavours were something else We were Immingham and Arring about dessert bit we has 1 anyway (waffles, Brownie and cheesecake) Waffles were served warm with icecream Cheese cake with choice And Brownie with cream All in all a great first time here in 20 years (I worked here in 2004) We will definitely be coming back, the atmosphere was lovely, it is well laid out and spacious, and the food and staff 5* Thank you Jayne and John for allowing us this experience

Went to the Lord nelson tonight young man behind the bar very polite and friendly ordered food however didn't taste nice took it back and the senior member of staff wasn't Impressed at all His overall attitude was disgusting! Hence to say we left .the mains were cancelled! Never eat there again!

So, I'm not one to massively review pubs, but this is one I absolutely have to, especially after the service received. The food was easily better than most other pub food out this way, the drinks were cold and tasted FRESH, which is a rare commodity anywhere near Exeter when it comes to family pubs... but all of that is nowhere near as important as the customer service I've seen, they even went out of their way to accommodate a patron with a health condition who was struggling pretty badly with fighting it. I have yet to see another pub anywhere in Devon who will accommodate for somebody struggling to keep their head stable for medical reasons. Every other one I've been to has just brandished the friend in question as too drunk and kicked him to the streets despite the fact this guy doesn't drink. Absolutely outstanding. I cannot express just how much I would recommend coming here, it has literally everything you'd want in a family pub. Bravo, guys, keep it up!

We only stopped for a drink, but the service was helpful and friendly. 2 decent real ales were available and a full bar. Very high ceilings here and dark wood abounds,however, the atmosphere inside was good. The dining area looked pleasant and spacious, and the menu had good choices, if not epicurian ones.

Arrived at the pub without a reservation, upon entering the premises, we were greeted by Jayne the Landlady, who made us very welcome and quickly invited us to sit down and gave us a menu. The food was excellent and not expensive, the ambience and decor was lovely and you could clearly see that Jayne had an eye for attention to detail. I would highly recommend the pub, food and drink

First time eating here since it changed hands and wow what a pleasant surprise! Really fantastic roast at a great price - genuinely beats a lot of the local offerings. So welcoming to our young children, lovely staff, will 100% be returning.

We had our works Christmas party here because the new owners are doing such a great job with this pub. We weren’t disappointed we had an amazing night with live music on too. The food was perfectly cooked, the best Christmas meal we’ve had for years, thanks team we will be back!

We had a delicious Sunday Lunch to celebrate my sons birthday. Great service, lovely bottle of wine and the roast was delicious. Mine was veggie and that was fab too! All served beside a cosy wood burner. We will definitely dine here again! 😍

If you drive to this pub make sure you pay for parking!! After popping in for a drink we will never return. It is not clear that you have to tell the pub you have parked to obtain free parking and no one in the pub asked. The atmosphere was great and staff friendly however going just over an hour we had a £100 fine!!! We tried to call the pub but they didn’t want anything to do with it and after sending evidence to the parking company they also stated we should have informed the pub. A very expensive drink with friends but what has disappointed me more is that both the pub and parking would not even entertain trying to help.

Taken over earlier this year, its menu gives a variety of food and drink. The new owner was friendly and welcoming. Great to see they are also doing love events which are very popular. Parking is free- remember to put your reg details on the tablet inside by the bar

Had pleasure of a meal here on Saturday night, each time we have been the landlady and landlord have always been very friendly and welcoming, which is a pleasant change from the previous ones. All the staff are attentive and helpful, the food was reasonably priced and very tasty, I had looked at the black pudding fritter starter previously on the menu and had set my mind on these - and was not disappointed - they were immense, chicken parmesan as main course - again really good. Already planning what we will have next from the menu

Read the latest reviews and rang by chance just the night before as weather was unpredictable and needed to be seated inside. All 8 of us had starters mains and deserts very tasty menu all enjoyed the eve. A perfect birthday celebration, for my hubby Joe staff friendly and attentive. Will defo be going again.

We visited The Lord Nelson in Topsham, Devon, whilst in the area, having previously been bowled over by the high standards and creativity new hosts Jon and Jayne had set in their previous pub, The Poacher in South Warnborough. They have fully realised the potential of The Lord Nelson by turning it into a fabulous pub and kitchen with food, drinks, service, welcome and ambience all of the highest quality. A true jewel in a gem of a town. We would highly recommend a visit.

Really friendly pub with great food. Staying in Topsham for a few days and was the best pub we visited. The staff were excellent, even persuading to try flavoured rum, and the food was top notch. Will be back.

We had not booked a table and our visit was Saturday 29/4/23. We had called around a couple of weeks ago and they were still in the process of revamping the place. It was quiet when we got here and we were greeted and given a choice of tables. We ordered drinks and then ordered food. The Broccoli and Stilton soup was fantastic as a starter, we then had fish and chips and a bacon & Cheese burger. Both were very nice the batter exceptional. Deserts next, Biscotti cheese cake, Eton mess, and Trillionaires tart. The cheese cakes were amazing, the others were good too. Overall, great friendly service. And we will be back soon. Went to Topsham to celebrate my brother's birthday with a pub crawl, and this pub was one of the best! Especially for their opening night it was ace. We even came back after completing the crawl. The staff were fabulous, really great atmosphere super friendly!

Delicious lunch on a sunny afternoon ( highly recommend the creme brulee) served with an excellent pint of Hanlons Yellowhammer

A very poor experience. Service was diabolical and the ONE vegetarian option on the menu was not available so I had a plate of vegetables and was still charged the same full price for the thing that I didn’t have. Shocking. No condiments, foul language from the owners whilst having lunch and generally just not a nice experience.

PHENOMENAL, the best fish and chips and they’re even gluten free! Mind blowing, I mean I’ve travelled all around Devon/England scouting out the best fish and chip place and it was by far the the crunchiest, scrummiest, and most freshly caught fish I’ve had in my life. The chips were too good, so much flavour and crunch. The mushy peas were delectable, the mint really made them so special. Rocket - the dog - was such a sweetheart! The pub itself was nice and clean and well decorated. Overall great atmosphere, fabulous food, and stellar drinks, couldn’t recommend enough!

Visited for Sunday lunch with family. Well cooked tasty meal competitively priced. Limited private off road parking which unfortunately was full so had to find parking elsewhere. Would certainly visit again.

Very Quickly becoming our favourite place to eat! Great walk from Exeter to Topsham along the canal/river with our Border Collie, and then a stop in the Nelson for Sunday lunch and a pint or 2. The landlord and staff are great, the former has 2 collies and always has 2 mins for a chat. Todays Sunday roasts (1 Beef & 1 Pork) were incredible! The meat, veg and yorkies all cooked to perfection! The Jus perfect for the dinner, all served on super hot plates. Cant rate this place enough, see you soon, Neil.

Great menu, lots of choice, reasonable prices and the food was amazing! This is not your typical pub grub, you will not be disappointed. Need to go again to try the other choices on the menu.

Nice staff and large portions of food but sadly the food wasn't so great with over cooked skin on wedges (they called them chips). Also the pricing was high but it being in Topsham means it about normal for the area.

Awesome pub, about time we left a review. Our favourite pub in the Exeter area. Just had Father's Day Roast with family. Great menu, well cooked with great beer and cocktails. Friendly staff and atmosphere. Good outdoor space too with music sometimes. Definitely worth a train ride from Exeter as 2 minutes from the station.
