The best Sunday roast I've had in a long time. Great value for money, really friendly staff will definitely be returning

Been coming here for years and there is always a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The new chef’s food is phenomenal! Love the tapas in particular but the specials and desserts he creates are amazing too. Exceptional value for money. 100% recommend.

The food was exceptional and service was amazing. The bbq was by far the best in town definitely will be back family friendly and Awesome atmosphere. Definitely will be back.

We had lunch here today. The guy behind the bar seemed like he didn't know what he was doing when taking the food order. Low and behold when the food came out the order was wrong. Some of the locals were swearing quite alot in the garden. Not really a place to bring your kids.

It’s a great family friendly place, but also has some evening events at times, run by a love couple with great staff, always great fun

Arrived at 10 am, Friday 3rd may for breakfast with a couple of work friends , as i approached the bar to order my breakfast the manager rudely grunted “can’t you see I’m busy ?” As he proceeded to go on his phone . Absolutely shocked by this and usually recommend a breakfast here but this has led me and my site to eat elsewhere .

We visited (party of 3) on impromptu decision to eat out after busy day at work. Having not booked, we walked into the pub all set up for quiz night, that meant all tables in the main bar were taken. However, the staff made a big effort to clear up and make room for us in the rear snug. We then ordered veggie nachos, and burger/fries. Our daughter ordered a bowl of chips. The nachos were delicious and plentiful, same with chips. The burger was undercooked, but the staff immediately apologised, refunded the burger money, and replaced - this time with a well cooked and delicious meal. Great beer on tap, good food and fantastic service in this friendly and welcoming 'local'. They dealt with the food issue exactly as you would hope for, and could not have been more pleasant throughout. So pleased this pub is so close to us!

Usually quiet when I go in of a lunchtime with work. But food is always good and the bar staff are friendly.

New chef new ideas Lumpy mash to the point there was a quarter of a undercooked potato in there Returned the food and was offered another dish had lasagne which was hard throughout the layers and Burnt on the underside so couldn't eat that The service was excellent but the food wasn't

Stopped here on out way south looking for local food rather the hotel rubbish. Nice local atmosphere, dogs allowed in, food was good and decently priced. Service was friendly. Thank you 😊

Met friends tonight. Had great fun in a friendly, proper pub. Food great. All nine of us had a meal and all good. Steak and Kidney pudding excellent. Well worth a visit.

Bar staff and chef (Scott) really attentive on ingredients to make sure supper was GF for me - hunters chicken and choccy brownie with ice cream but will try and tailor other menu choices. Separate friers so chips etc are not cross-contaminated, GF rolls for burgers. Love having this place as my local!

We met up with some of our family for dinner here - what a lovely evening. Despite the general rule being to order food and drinks at the bar, a lovely chap served us at our table. He couldn’t have been more helpful and was friendly and chatty. Our food was served in a very timely manner and was piping hot and delicious. Incredibly good value for money and a really lovely evening. We shall definitely be returning.

We went there today for lunch, 3 adults and 8 children, very friendly and welcoming staff, food was very tasty, hot and extremely well priced. The landlord gave the children colouring books and colouring pencils and a game to play with, we were made very welcome and will definitely be visiting again very soon.

Nice but food if very limited as Friday's they apparently only do a works man's menu which means it's great if you like burger and chips if you don't like that you had it

Cheerful staff, working a busy pub, with darts and pool matches underway when we arrived. The beer was in good condition and the food, both reasonably priced and well presented. I'm sure we'll be back.

Fish chips and mushy peas with a pint of lemonade the lemonade tasted like dish water a spoon full of peas and frozen chips absolutely appalling. The manageress had an attitude i think its becuase we had just finished work and was still in my work clothes. Will not return.

Tuesday A little slow with service, but sure that's due to the England Game. Thursday however better, food nice and good price!

I stopped for a quick £5 lunch.....always such good value, I had tasty plentiful ham, well cooked egg and super chips and the chips in particular were excellent, and all served with a smile. The pub is set up well - safe play area for children, tv's for the sports fanatics, outside tables and parasols for good weather and Colin the landlord is always good humoured even in this hard times. Glad he was open on a Monday as many are not and so are missing a trick!

Had an hour to kill in Pinhoe so I went here for a pint. The service was excellent and the prices were good. A definite Pinhoe hotspot.

We arrived yesterday with friends. When we first got there the man who served us was lovely. Later on in the evening, the land lady came round to take our order and serve us some drinks. However we did forget to order one drink so one of my friends apologised ask to order this certain drink. The lady was very rude about and spoke to us in a disgusting manner. She then later came back with our drinks, I was sat on the table whilst my friends went outside for a cigarette. She then said to me in such a abrupt rude manner who’s paying for these drinks. I said I’m not, I will get one of them to come inside and pay as I am 5 months pregnant and clearly only drinking water. The land lady was so rude about it and stormed off with the drinks. She then came back 20 minutes after one of my friends went to the bar and explained what happened and wanted to pay. She shoved the drinks on the table and was swearing and talking to us like absolute dirt. After that incident a friend we knew who was already at the pub and was a couple tables behind us came over and spoke to us. The land lady came over and rudely said we aren’t allowed anymore drinks due to us breaking the rules. However the friend that came and sat on our table apologised and left. If the land lady was polite to us and spoke to us this whole incident wouldn’t of happened. I felt like she targeted our table throughout the night and after speaking to a couple people at the pub they have informed me that the landlady is so rude and has multiply complaints about her. We will never be coming back again. Absolutely disgusting.

I ordered 3 steak meals from here and quite frankly I wouldnt even have fed it to my dog. Got home after waiting 50 minutes for my food and the steak was burnt to a crisp when I ask for a medium steak, the steak was chewy and full of gristle so couldn't eat it.. The onion rings were soggy and soft.. Got home and phoned them.. The agreed to replace the meals.. Phoned today 24/8/20 to reorder our meals and I was called a lier by the landlady and she refused to replace the meals.. She was very rude and I certainly won't be eating here again.. Disgusted

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!.. Ordered a veggie burger and specifically asked not to have the chutney in the burger due to an allergy so I asked for it to be on the side. When it arrived it was a soggy burger, with the chutney. I asked for a replacemnet to be met with a very rude waiter who made us feel as we were an inconvenince and our mistake, he was basically rude and did not once apologise for their mistake or the extra waiting time. After waiting abut 15 minutes and my partner finishing his food, it finally arrived. The chips were cold, again the burger all soft and falling apart, the bun looked like it was reused given a good 'squeeze, it was also too small for the burger' and generally looked awful and unappetising. We decided to leave and went to settle the bill, discuss what we would be charged, and put a compliant in to the manager . We asked a young woman behind the bar if we could talk to the manager. We were told the manager refuse to come to the bar to talk to us and if we wanted to talk to her we had to go 'round the conrer'.I requested she come to the bar as did not feel comfortable 'going round the corner' and did not understand such a 'strange' request.The staff member relayed this but she again refused and we could hear her saying 'if she wants to fu##ing talk to me she will have to come here' this was said numerous time so we then went round the bar to her, she then 'RAN' away through the restaurant despite us calling her, she was shouting abuse as she ran. I would also like to add that my partner and I are professional people in our late forties, we do not expect to have to deal with this type of behaviour when all we want is a quiet evening meal. We also have 20 years in the catering/hospitality industry and if we had employed staff that behaved like they would have been fired on the spot!.. We will also be sharing our experience on all media platforms as possible so nobody else has to experience this. Please do not waste your money or time at this awful place. Shame on you Heart of Oak!...

This is my local usally frequent after work & on days off. Great staff & very friendly atmosphere. Love it. Very good food menu.

We had a fantastic evening, thanks to the - great food, service and staff! We were a family of 9 and the family dog. We sat in the beer garden and had a lovely meal. The staff were very attentive and food was great - couldn't asked for more. The menu has a good selection and caters for all needs as one of is GF. The meals were delicious and to be honest we couldn't fit a desert. It was all set up for COVID19, with a clear one-way system and all the necessary precautions so it was great and would definitely recommend to anyone who may be cautious at this time. The garden, pub and loos were all spotless. The tables are spaced and even in the garden there is plenty of room so you feel safe and comfortable. Again all precautions taken in light of COVID. We had our dog with us and he too was made of feel very welcome, although we chose to sit outside, he was welcome in the bar area had we have decided to eat in there. Thanks for a lovely evening and we will be back!

Catered for 14 of us at short notice. After a long journey, a great day at a family theme park we needed a good meal and somewhere to relax and that's what we got. In fact the food was impressive, the service was brilliant and we felt more than welcomed. Would definitely recommend, thank you! 😍

I couldn’t disagree more with the last review, I visited last weekend and the atmosphere was brilliant and certainly helped by the welcome given by the landlady and her staff. What was meant to be a couple of drinks turned into a bit of a session. Well done guys you run a great public house and is just what a local should be.

Recently moved to the area, we were stared at by locals, felt uncomfortable which is a shame because we were looking forward to it being our local too.

Customer service skills definitely required by land lady...... won’t be spending any more money in there again as being polite costs nothing!!!

We visited this restaurant and the service was very poor we had booked in advance,we waited over 30 minutes between the main and dessert.

Empty pub on a Wednesday night 8.30pm. No warmth/welcome/atmosphere. Three television screens, 2 different programmes on them - very distracting! Meal ......what can I say but nothing exciting..... wouldn’t bother to visit again.

Went here with friends one bank holiday lunchtime. It was the first time I’d visited and I was really impressed. The landlord was really friendly and helped us choose our drinks and food, and when the food arrived we were all surprised by the portion sizes, especially considering the reasonable pricing. It was delicious and we all agreed we’d be back soon

Full 5 stars for this ‘proper boozer’ GREAT STAFF very friendly, i’ve eaten here a few times and always been happy. Pool table, dartboard, jukebox and a nice garden area. The Heart of Oak has the full package!

I called in to get something to eat but didn't feel very welcome.

Beer is sometimes iffy every time I have doom bar here I have gut Rot the next day. Ordered nachos for a light snack they are £4.50 you can add chili beef or pulled pork for £1.50 bringing total price to £6. We decided not to add any meat which confused them entirely the cook came and asked us to double check that we didn't want the additions which we confirmed when it arrived it seems without adding extras you forefit the salsa and guacamole which left us with a hand full of cheap tortilla chips with a cheap cheddar on top not worth the money at all will never eat here.

We met up with family here for a birthday meal, a lovely place to eat. The landlord couldn’t have been more helpful and made sure we were happy at all times. When our meals came I was shocked at how big they were. The sloppy chilli burger was beautiful made fresh and was enormous. I will definitely be going back as it was really good value for money..

Called for the second time. We had to wait a while as was busy, but we said we did not mind at all. Meals are worth waiting for. Young man with us has a healthy appetite and had the mixed grill. He said he had died and gone to heaven.! This a thatched pub with its own parking. Meals are generous and well presented. I am returning next week with my daughter and granddaughter for a birthday lunch. This will be their first visit, but I know they will be pleased with the food.
