Well located for visiting San Diego. Prefer rooms with a view of the marina.

The tub/shower is very slippery and unsafe. I'm in my thirties, in good shape. I stepped one foot into the shower and immediately slipped and smashed my other shin against the tub. The hotel opted to paint & reglaze the tub but skipped on adding a permanent nonslip surface. Instead they provided a small & stinky mat that wasn't sufficient to prevent my slip. I'm only here for one night & won't be returning.

The infrastructure is quite good and the standard of the rooms is acceptable. We spent quite a lot of money per night for having a room with a very small patio in front of the pool, facing the bushes surrounding the pool, with people passing by (no privacy) and with no sun (very dark room all day long even if outside it was one of the sunniest day we ever seen). This room was sold to us as 'tropical view' or 'garden view' room, but all we had was a couple of chairs outside the room with no sun or light. Housekeeping was only turning up at 4:20pm when we were trying to chill in our dark (depressing) room and we therefore we sent then away.

The hotel is beautiful! Had an unpleasant time with Darlene at the desk some what rude and sick.

Beautiful hotel with a lot of charm. The staff was top notch, especially Darlene who was incredibly attentive to our needs during our stay. Can't wait to return.

Hubby and I stayed for a night and we had such a great time. Check in was easy and the ladies up front were so kind and professional.....our room was perfect size and very clean. We went to the backstage to see some friends play. Seating was tough as they brought in a huge crowd. However, the manager came out thanked us from coming and being patient as we waited. Bartender Zach made an amazing old fashioned...It was very very packed and servers did amazing. Other than seating and chairs/stools by bar that should have been moved since was a big crowd and only 2 bartenders who absolutely did an amazing job...we made some great memories and I highly suggest staying at Half Moon Inn. We will be back in the summer to just lounge and enjoy!!

When I first arrived it was amazing. I saw live jazz, ate at the amazing restaurant and took advantage of the warm jacuzzi. My room was very spacious and I was very happy with my stay. The heater didn’t work so I was given a space heater which was weird but I adapted and ended up staying 4 extra days. (Even though after seeing how wrong I was treated by management I should have changed rooms THEN then but I was trying to be nice and considerate) On my last day staying, the front desk calls to me let me know I need to change rooms even though I had been in the same room the four days prior. I explained how I just had major surgery and was there for a staycation in which they then told me that didn’t matter and I still needed to change rooms. They offered no help, and couldn’t care less. Very confused, I went to the front desk to ask for the manager on site. As soon as the guest services manager whose name starts with an M came it got worse instead of better. From the beginning, she was very rude and unprofessional. She came from behind the counter ready to scream, fight and belittle me instead of trying to fix the situation. I felt racially profiled and not safe. She then threatened to call the police after I explained to her I would move rooms. (Mind you I was on the property four days prior and had a great time) I just was confused on why I needed to change rooms. She doesn’t know how to properly deal with people who aren’t her same skin color. I live in La Jolla and have staycations around town often and have never been treated so wrong by someone who is at “work.” I went from an amazing room with a ceiling fan and very secluded to a small room in a weird area with no fan at all paying more than I need the previous four nights. The other staff were amazing, however the manager Melissa and the Assistant manager are rude and racist and I will be contacting corporate to further address my concerns so others don’t have to deal with being racially profiled at this location. EVERYTHING besides the two front desk managers unprofessionalism was amazing. All the staff were so friendly as well.

Smooth and friendly check-in experience. Our room was ready ahead of schedule. We chose to unwind at this tropical haven for a few days following our Disney Cruise before heading home—only wishing we could extend our stay. The ambiance exudes a super tropical and relaxing vibe with a Tiki tropical atmosphere. Our garden view suite is impressively spacious, clean, and architecturally pleasing, offering a nostalgic feel reminiscent of 1960s hotels but with modern conveniences. The hotel is meticulously maintained, and we're already planning our return. We love Humphreys! Rooms: Well-kept Walkability: Convenient walking distance to Bali Hai Noteworthy details: Incredibly charming, tropical, and well-maintained. The large pool, hot tub, and inviting fire pits add to the experience!

Beautiful, tropical-feel while still being minutes from everything in San Diego! The pool and hot tub were right outside our room which made it feel even more vacation-like. Loved listening to the live music of Air Supply from our hotel lanai. It is located on Shelter Island which also has so many amenities within walking distance that you can leave your car parked most days if you don’t have things to do. Easily accessible to freeways and USD for parents traveling to visit students.

The hotel is very nicely maintained. It’s close enough to the airport that the plane noise is obvious. The rooms are not soundproof at all. The maintenance workers start at 7 AM, so don’t expect to sleep in. The restaurant is beautiful! I wasn’t there for a concert, but the concert stage looks great! Our meeting room had a wonderful view of the harbor.

The grounds at Humphrey’s are really pretty and well kept. However, our room was exact opposite. Our room was not properly cleaned with a dirty/used soap bar on the floor, and someone else’s razor cover in the shower when we arrived. The tub was rusting and did not drain well. The mattress was well past its life span. The screen door to our patio was broken with multiple holes in the screen and the walls/doors are paper thin. All and all this property and staff were very nice when we brought it to their attention but, the room itself did not justify the price we paid for the experience we had.

Really good location. The staff is friendly. And the hotel has a vibe like you are in Hawaii, outside there are a lot of trees and green areas.

Humphreys Half Moon Inn is absolutely adorable. It is located on Shelter Island and yes it is an island in San Diego, CA. You forget you are in the US when you are here. Turtles, parrots, fish, jacuzzi, pool, plenty of outdoor seating a the property is stunning. Great area for long walks. minutes away from some amazing restaurants and some good beer spots. I would definitely recommend this place.

I stayed at Hunphreys for 4 days. The room was ok. It was mostly clean, new furniture, old carpet but super dark. The hotel garden is so packed with trees, it feels claustrophobic. Location-wise you are in a marina, and disconnected from the downtown. You definitely need a car to go to restaurants and stuff. There is not much option in the walking distance. The staff were ok.

My friend rented a room and we hung out for ZZ top. It was a good show. Only complaint is that the dock will not let you leave without a key fob. This is a fire hazard

Easy friendly check in. Room was ready early. We came here after our Disney Cruise to unwind for a few days before flying home. Wish we could stay longer. Super tropical relaxing place. Tiki tropical vibe. Our room is the garden view suite. It's super big clean and architecturally pleasing. It's also like going back in time to hotels of the 1960s but with modern conveniences. Well taken care of hotel. Already trying to figure out when to come back! We love Humphreys!!!

Very nice grounds with lots of foliage, comfortable rooms that are nothing special except some have nice views. The restaurant is good but a bit pricey for what you get.

This place is an excellent place to see a concert, either from your boat, or the small venue. If you would like to stay for a concert. Get a room looking from your balcony. Well worth it for a large group. I would get tickets on line when they go on sale sometimes in May to get good seats for the year. The only way to get up close.

Throughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Booked the grand marina suite and was not disappointed. The pool was closed during my stay so the kids did miss out on swimming but overall great. Plan to stay again.

Great staff, location, grounds and pool. Rooms have issues and need updating and better maintenance. If not there for the concerts, it is very LOUD and no relaxing from 730 to 1030pm. Noise will rattle your brain.

Just finished a 3 night stay in a junior luxury suite. It was decent. Got the final bill at check out and found on top of the $10/day(usually $30/day fee?) for parking they also charge you $17/day to walk around with the key card to your room. Why? The room size is slightly bigger than your normal hotel room size. The room was cold. I tried setting the thermostat to 80 degrees and it still felt like 68. My guest was cold the couple hours they visited. Minor things like a bad lighting switch and unusable USB slot at the desk were not a huge deal but reported to the lobby attendant the first night there. After a dip in the pool I wanted to check out the fitness center. Some bald guy with glasses and a buttoned down shirt approached asking what I wanted while I was asking another worker for directions and acted like he thought I wasn't a guest there, asked for my key card, watched me very closely and then lied about it closing soon when it was still to be open for 3 more hours. Felt unfriendly and just weird. I think on show nights the staff are on edge more. Plus there's tons of construction going on at the front entrance where the lobby is. The parking lot is messy even 3 and 4 hours before shows with young people waiting outside. You may find yourself being forced to back up because others are trying to get through also. Plus there's big semis rolling in on show nights hours before unloading gear and they block off parts of the parking lot and actual road that goes through the area. This hotel has no room service, really? Never dealt with not having that option before. Weird. This is a good place to go for a show, if you get a little tipsy you can stay in your room instead of driving home. I can see that being the upside to staying here. The views of the bay are nice. A very nice walk to the friendship bell and back. The scenery around the stage area and the pools are very nice. I like the tropical feel to the place. I just noticed several things especially at my age that weren't fitting for my expectations. On nights that there are no shows it's peaceful. I enjoyed that. A good 3.5 rating I think is proper for my stay.

Stayed here for four nights. On 1st night had to have maintenance out twice to unstop the sink and fix the safe. The sink continued to drain very slowly which is a problem if you want to wash your hands. I was not informed at check in that you must call daily to request housekeeping. I did get service one of the four days but for unknown reasons it did not happen one day even though I had reserved a spot. On my last day the room safe would not open causing me to be late to my appointment - maintenance was not available until 7am. Be aware that parking is chaos on concert nights, which is frequent. If you are not going to the concert you will want to book away from the restaurant as it is very loud.

I ended up here to watch a live outdoors concert. Great experience, right by the bay! Lots of parking.

We had an amazing stay at Humphreys. We go to San Diego a lot and this will be our new go to hotel. My kids loved the pool and the area with the firepits.

I usually wait until I leave places to leave a review but I’ve been here 2 days & I can’t say enough wonderful things about this place! The rooms are extremely good (especially for the price point, like I was blown away at the amenities + storage they had. i got the smallest/cheapest room and it’s incredibly nice). It is clean, it is in a GREAT location, every area is beautiful. The tall mature palm trees around the resort really make this place feel cozy and honestly just show how much they care about keeping the grounds nice. The pool and hot tub were very clean with lots of space, there are koi ponds as well. Also the free concerts, plus a discount to their VERY yummy beautiful restaurant is insane with your rental. Genuinely the best place I’ve ever stayed at when traveling, I wish I could take this place to every destination so I could stay here.

Nice location, rooms are dates and poorly maintained. Don’t be mislead by the website photos as they are falsely advertised. I recently stayed at Humphreys for a second time to give it another chance. It was for my daughters birthday weekend and we were so very disappointed with the condition of the rooms and found that the photos that are posted on the website are misleading. The Marina and gardens are nice. The rooms are par with a motel quality and are dated and not well maintained. The rooms also smelled very old because the furniture probably had not been cleaned in a while. The website did not disclose that the rooms are currently under renovation which is misleading and falsely advertised. Nor do the prices reflect such. The services was good and the staff responded to the broken sink immediately, The staff were nice and responded to the broken sink immediately, but the maintenance person had to fix the sink stopper during our stay. My husband also had to fix the kitchen cabinet door because the screw was loose. Luckily he had his Leatherman. If you’re not concerned with the condition of hotel rooms this may be the location for you,: however if you are concerned with the condition of your hotel room I would not recommend this hotel. I really did try to give it another shot.

If only the inside matched the beauty displayed on the outside… this hotel sadly was a huge disappointment upon arrival the grounds and lobby were quite stunning. I was so excited but when I got to my room it was a huge letdown the room was so outdated the beds or so uncomfortable and the bathtub was clogged… While they did send someone upstairs to fix it it was still a huge Inconvenience after traveling all day. I will say Chris the front desk gentleman did try his best.He still could not undo all the mishaps. Be aware I had to have the room clean because there was hair everywhere and inside of the refrigerator which was disgusting. I asked for another room they could not accommodate for all the money you spend and all the fees what am I paying for exactly! Horrible night sleep due to a comfortable bed the entire room needs to be redone and an investment needs to be made in the bed and furniture just the same way they make the outside look gorgeous… Really wish my time had been better :(

We stayed a week (very expensive). Did not like the bathroom setup. Did not care for parrots outside my balcony squawking all day. The appearance of the room appeared very shabby, furniture well beyond the replacement stage. I would look for another place next time I visit.

What a beautiful property! At first I was sad that I was in a room far from the lobby and pool, but it turned out to be amazing, private, and have a great view of the bay at night! I will be back again, this time with my family. Plenty of room to roam on the grounds, and perfect for solo trips, couples and families!

Great view and location nice pool, but unfortunately there is no room service cleaning unless requested 24 hours ahead. The tv's in the room were super glitchy which made it really annoying to watch a movie with family. Please clean the koi pond it stunk.

Our family vacationed in San Diego and this resort was such a nice retreat from the city. We loved the pool area, fire tables, restaurant and the concert was a nice plus! We have already recommended it to other families!

I usually love staying at this place. Love the atmosphere, but I got an older room this time around that needed upkeep. Subpar for the price of the room. Front desk was welcoming and nice though.

Room and view were beautiful! We really were able to relax. Extremely enjoyed the dancing on site and the fireplace. The property is lush with beautiful plants.

Property is gorgeous. Rooms are outdated but tolerably clean. Beds feel like plywood. Jacuzzi needs to be cleaned more often. Someone stole our patio furniture. We reported it and our furniture was never replaced.

So we visit SD from TX a couple times a year and this was our first stay at Humphreys Half Moon Inn. Overall, it was a great stay but two things really stuck out that need addressing. Pros: location, Shelter Island was great and so convenient to everything including Ocean Beach & Hillcrest. The drive to La Jolla for our anniversary dinner wasn't bad, either. Another pro: this property is beautiful! And well-maintained, super clean. The room was spacious, clean and had a nice view of the marina. Loved the full-size fridge, stove top, microwave and the bathtub was actually adult sized, not tiny. The tub did have some weird staining but I just attribute that to it being an older property. Plenty of towels, blankets, pillows and tissue were provided for our entire stay. Plenty of parking. Wonderful property with a lot of charm. Another pro: the pool is FABULOUS. We loved that it had a deep end. The hot tub was also amazing and roomy. Now, the cons: HOSPITALITY! This place just missed the mark. We've been spoiled I guess and other properties are very intentional in asking about if you're in town for anything special, making suggestions, etc. This one did not. We'd requested a second-floor room. They said they'd call us when the room was ready and he gave us a pool key (great feature! Although, be warned there is no public shower but you could easily just dry off and go on about your day until you get into your room, there are clean pool towels). Anyhow, we went to check out a few of our favorite spots, grab some essentials we'd need for the week and hang out at the cliffs. We got a call a bit after 3:30. Arrived to the hotel a bit after 4 to just about one of the rudest people we've encountered at a hotel. We asked for a second floor room and after some back and forth, blaming us, etc, she offered to move us the next day since there were none available. We're reasonable people, her rudeness, lack of apology for the hotel's mistake& blaming us was the problem. She did offer to move rooms the next day but who wants the hassle of lugging all their things across the property again? Super inconvenient. My next issue with the hospitality here is most hotels give you a list, suggestions on fun things to do nearby. Three days into the stay I went to ask about something nice/special I could do as a surprise for my husband. I was given the list of restaurants nearby. I don't know, it just wasn't the response or level of hospitality received at other places. The only person encountered at the front desk who acted like they were trained in customer service and like we weren't inconveniencing them is Brandi. She was awesome but I met her at checkout so perhaps it would've been a different experience had we dealt with her exclusively. 3 out of the 4 we dealt with during our stay could learn a thing or two from Brandi. Another huge con is the bed situation. They are rock hard! My back was killing me and it was really difficult to sleep with the condition of these mattresses. My husband's back was also hurting and he usually doesn't have back issues. There are a TON of wonderful things about this property but the lack of hospitality left a bad taste in our mouths. Better beds would be nice, too. Would we return? Probably! Hopefully the hospitality is much better next time.

My husband and I stayed here for five nights and it was a lovely stay. Our room had a gorgeous view of the pool and a peekaboo view of the harbor beyond. The room is clean and nice, but the r draw is the beautifully landscaped property in a perfect San Diego location. They have had live music every night, strong drinks at their lounge bar, and (out of their control, but still worth noting) beautiful sunny days followed by gorgeous sunsets. During our stay, they were offering daily service for the rooms if you called to request it - otherwise housekeeping would not come by. Great place to enjoy San Diego from!

Great place to stay and the concerts are amazing

Humphrey’s is in serious need of an update. Rooms are just okay, tons of fees tacked on at the end, front entrance is under construction so it’s a chore to find your way to the lobby. Oh, and our “Garden view” was of the on site stage. However, the pool is really nice as is the mature landscaping.

Every inch of the hotel is so creatively choreographed to offer a captivating experience. Amenities are plentiful, and its accessibility to San Diego makes it the ideal get away spot. The staff was super helpful and accommodating. even with renovations being made, the experience was top tiered. I highly recommend.

Practically historic inn on shelter island in San Diego, tropical tiki theme throughout. Stayed on a non- concert night as we had an event on the island and wished we had booked elsewhere. Maybe it's worth it when you stay and can watch a concert from your room balcony. They are currently redoing their entryway/ gateway lobby area and no construction advisory was provided prior, during, or after booking. Difficult to get around hotel, do not recommend for disabled or those with limited mobility. Rooms are older, need to be updated. Insulation especially for noise is lacking. You get to hear late night guests as quiet hours are not enforced and those enjoying their "romantic night on the island." Needless to say we barely slept a wink. The half moon service fee is supposed to provide wifi, which we had counted on to work remotely the morning of check out. It did not work the entirety of our stay. If you are planning to work remotely do not count on this venue providing internet. Their bar appears to allow smoking indoors. Or at least smelled that way long enough for us to walk in and out. The pool looked nice and would be fun. Appears to have a bar but was closed when we checked out the pool area. The outdoor fire pits were a nice touch. The booking process could also be improved, confirmation email through their website took an entire day.

I had a problem with my credit card yesterday when I tried to check in. I forgot that my University fees were due and that’s why it was out of balance. The mobile app was down so I couldn’t check at the moment and I was distressed being 14 hours flight from home. The girl at checkin was not helpful at all. If anything she was disinterested. In fairness, she offered to connect me to the wifi, which would not help that my card was not working. I asked if they would refund me if I did not checkin and also fair enough they couldn’t since it was booked through a third party. I didn’t want to loose the booking anyway because I wouldn’t have been able to book a new one anyway without my card. I couldn’t call my bank because I didn’t have roaming and everyone I know is asleep at 4 am (Dubai time). So I finally thought I would get help from a friend Seattle by using her card. So I went back to the reception to hear her sending an authorisation form to a customer over the phone. Why this option was not given to me 30 mins ago? When I finally checked in, I asked for help with my bags due to my ankle being I injured and the answer was that my room isn’t THAT far (despite there were stairs to my room). On my way, 2 men who works at the hotel offered to help. I understand that none of what happened to me yesterday was the checkin employee’s fault nor problem. I am also a compliance senior manager so I would never expect them to break any rules for me. But you would expect some level of humanity and kindness especially when someone is distressed. A glass of water or a even to offer me to sit down would have been nice. Other than that, the hotel is beautiful with amazing views and while you are here, you must make a stop at the bar, the live music is amazing, so don’t miss out. I personally would not go back as this left a bitter taste in my mouth, but I would recommend the hotel to others. Finally, when I was checking out, there was another employee, he was nice and genuinely asked me how was my stay, but my Uber to the airport was waiting so I didn’t share this with him.

It's like stepping into a small tropicle setting and loving it! Ocean, great, service and easy parking. The room sizes are really large with kitchens, big tvs and so much room.

A great location. Rooms are normal average but Clean. Some rooms have better views than others but overall a good experience. Pool was great condition with nice seating area. The lobby is under construction but definitely looking great so far.

This hotel was great my children and I had a wonderful time sitting at the pool and later the fire pit. I would most definitely come back.

The campus of is beautiful and well maintained. Loved the privacy of our junior suite. Views were wonderful. Our only complaint was the bed. It was very hard and probably late in its life span. I was in a lot of pain most of my trip from the bed. My husband never has back trouble and could hardly stand. If only the bed had been as well appointed as the rest of the resort. If you need a comfy bed this is NOT the resort for you.

The pool was just opened the second day. Lovely grounds, Good breakfast at the restaurant. Wonderful area to stroll. Very nice room.

My friend and I went there to celebrate our Birthdays. We got a great deal on Groupon, and a free upgrade. Our room was fantabulous!

So cute; with an old school aesthetic remnant of the golden girls charm. The view of the bay was incredible and the location was a short walk to food, bars, and convenience stores. We took a walk down the water side and found a fantastic craft brewery, and enjoyed sitting dockside in the ideal San Diego weather until 930ish, and still felt safe as a group of women to walk back to the hotel. Definitely worth the adventure (check out the view from our first floor rooms outside sitting area)

Such a beautiful, tropical getaway. Staff was amazing, beautiful pool and wonderful restaurant & lounge. Live music on weekends. Rooms are spacious, but a little dated. Excellent value overall. Easy walk to other restaurants on the island.

Went back again with the kids this time. So nice to enjoy that big pool.

Beautiful landscaping, relaxed atmosphere, excellent location. They had bicycles available for guests to ride around Shelter Island, which I thought was pretty cool. Staff was friendly and helpful. I was disappointed by the uncleanliness of the bathroom and the 4pm check in.

Overall, I found this hotel charming, and it had some stunning views. My friends and I often commented on the tropical feel of the hotel. I definitely like the marina view rooms over the ocean view. The ocean view suite had a road in between the beach views. We hung out half a day at the pool, but the poolside bar was closed - it opens after Memorial Day. With the hotel stay, we got access to a music venue, which was tons of fun. The staff was very friendly and sweet. There were great restaurants at walking distance. I definitely plan on returning!

I am just planning to stay at the Humphreys in May 2022. This will be the last stop during our round trip through Southwest of United States. On the one hand I am travelling with my family doing nice vacation. On the other hand I am a product manager of a German tour operator "Geoplan" who is always searching for new hotels and places we can offer to our customers. I have tried to contact the hotel several times, via phone and via email, even the manager Mr. Davies itself. No one ever replied to my emails or answered the calls. As somebody who talks a lot with hotels and partners all over the world during my work I can say: That is not the right way to treat customers. Even if I have not been to the hotel yet, I cannot recommend it. If they are not able to write a simple answer, how would they behave in case of any problems? Therfore I will search for another location to end our trip, somebody who is willing to talk to me. With this treatment I would be afraid to send clients there. Sebastian

Horrible experience. First room baby was crying which is out of their control but they swiftly moved me out of that room into another one. New room going ok walls are very thin here so could hear everything worst than that a pipe starts vibrating at 9 pm here i am in this room with the feeling that something is about to blow up turns out just a pipe but they can't fix it so they send me to another room right next to screaming baby how great. If u want thin walls bad room bad pillows come here

Other than a very Stiff bed, that extra pillows helped tremendously. We can't wait to book another stay.

Haven't stayed yet but reservations with Darlene were nothing but stellar. She was extremely helpful, funny, courteous, and kind in helping with my questions regarding my upcoming stay. If this is the standard of service present throughout the rest of the hotel, my family and I are in for an absolute treat. Thank you Darlene, people like you are the reason this world is beautiful

Excellent place with gorgeous common areas around the heated pool. Their fireplace areas are amazing and ideal to enjoy the night.

Wifi doesn’t work. Disappointing and frustrating

Humphreys Half Moon bay in San Diego aka Shelter Island.. this is like a resort restaurant and concert hall on the grounds .This place is secret cove and plenty of restaurants near by coffee shops too. Please check this spot out reasonable price too.

Great service great food great atmosphere

The common areas outside are really gorgeous and cute, but my room had termites in the ceiling and their droppings rained down on one of the beds. Maybe avoid room 225.

Quiete place right next to the water with beautiful views of the city

The room has a lot of traffic. Not impressed by the place.
