Half Moon Inn in Exeter

We chose to stay at Humphrey's on our honeymoon trip and I'm so glad we did! The room was just as pictured, staff were so friendly and the grounds are beautiful. Truly felt like we were in our own little Polynesian bubble. We felt safe at this location as well - we hope to return someday!

We enjoyed the Half Moon Inn because of Darleen. The staff really did not have any personal touch however Darleen was so kind to us. She gave us information on tours and coffee cream. I was amazed how caring and kind she took care of us. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the view of San Diego is breathtaking. The pool is clean and large with great palm trees everywhere in property. The restaurant is only interested if you are buying tickets for concerts however I manage to walk to other restaurants. I love the location if you love boats and sunsets. Beautiful property very clean and well manicured with plants. People travel there for entertainment performances. Thank you Darleen for your amazing kindness to us that early morning it meant so much to me. You gave me the best vibe that morning and my vacation started off with positive energy because I had no idea my location. You made a huge impression on me and my husband.

The place is not like the photos, they charged us an additional $50 per night for our own vehicle that was not included in the reservations, we stayed four nights at the hotel, where one night we thought they were going to assault us around 12 at night, where The experience was fatal that the hotel staff came to knock on our doors late at night, where security came to charge us at midnight for parking the vehicle, they did not even have the kindness to charge us in the morning, where we did not have the fault of the downed system that they did not warn before.

We went there for a concert. Beautiful venue, all seats are great and the sound is awesome

Where do I begin, so me and my husband stayed here on 10/30 and 10/31, it was a bit chilly at night so we decided to want to use the heater to warm up the room a little, well comes to find out the heater didn’t work, so we called the front desk had maintenance come and check it out, not sure what he did but he was in our room for a while, he leaves and moments later my husband sees some kind of pink liquid on top of our counter top and all dirty! So we complained when we checked out and I kid you not the guy working the front desk when we told him about what had happened and showed him the picture he kept saying over and over that what looked spilled was coffee and his maintenance workers would never leave that mess! First of all we did NOT even drink the coffee that’s put for the guest in our room! They were NOT even touched! He was rude when we were telling him the mess the maintenance man left even after showing him the picture this was the second time we stay here and tbh because of your customer service we most likely won’t even be staying here anymore! Anybody that sees the picture can clearly see that it is NOT coffee!

What a beautiful all-round experience. The bar is lovely, full of locals enjoying themselves, and the food was fab. Beef and horseradish croquettes, chicken with spinach mousse stuffing and cheeseboard were the highlights, washed down with local gin and ales. Our room was a delight - lots of hot water, shower was great, and bed super comfortable. And the breakfast - everything from full English to smoked salmon and overnight oats. What a treat. Thanks so much.

I watched a concert a Humphreys and it was a great experience! Watching a concert next to the water while the sun was setting was such a breath of fresh air. The food was expensive but the parking was easy for me. I would definitely recommend

Great location with a wonderful view of the waterfront. Rooms are spacious. Bathrooms clean and spacious. Plenty of greenery and nice clean pool to wade in. Staff was friendly. Small resort that has an island/Tiki vibe. Walkable to nearby locations and the water. Did not have food on the premises so no idea for that. Plenty of areas to hang around and sit by a fire pit to relax. Concert space set up right next to the water where Plenty of little boats are docked. Lovely views from most areas of the resort.

BEWARE ILLEGAL CHARGES WHILE BOOKING! Not only is Humphrey’s Half Moon Inn is not including the amenities fee in the base price as required BY LAW SB 478. But they also tacked on an unexplained $113.90 to the base price for the room and a State Tax that doesn't exist of $2.51. The room came to a total of $1,566.12 when it should have been $1315.46. That's a theft of $250.66. For shame!

One of my all time favorite hotels! It is located in the perfect area. On a beautiful marina and the area has Polynesian vibes! It’s such an amazing hotel. I dream about this place because the grounds are so tropical and beautiful!

This was a mixed bag for me. What a beautiful & unique inn next to the bay. As others have mentioned the grounds are reminiscent of a tropical paradise. We did have a room overlooking the concert area - and although parking became a challenge the “free” concert was fun for my family of 4. PROS Grounds Views Unique Location Free Concert Kind grounds staff & housekeeping (I got super ill on our trip & they were very helpful) CONS One of our beds was extremely uncomfortable. The air conditioning was weak and not responsive. Front desk staff was not very present and with inconsistent levels of attentiveness. We could never enjoy the overrun hot tub Suggestions for improvement. Higher quality beds. Second Hot tub. Detachable shower heads I was almost victim to hidden fees when extending my stay - but to my understanding that will be a thing of the past. 5 night stay - Family of four- 2 queen non view room We booked majority of stay through a third party - the value was excellent! When extending our stay through the hotel I felt swindled. Overall if the price was right I would book again & hope for an updated mattress experience.

Rooms need to be updated a bit but we love staying at Humphreys! We’ve been coming here for over 10 years. Love the new bar by the pool. Sierra was awesome! 👏🏼 The pool is super fun, and we love this location.

Been hearing a lot about this place from friends in the area. It certainly lived up to expectations. The food and service were both excellent. One of those places where the little bit extra that it costs it paid back 5 times over in quality. Our group had the pie special, the fish and chips, the spicy chicken burger and hake. All were excellent.

Not been since before Covid but our stay was amazing. We were made very welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room was in the main house and extremely clean and comfortable and quirky with a slanting floor. The food was amazing - especially the cheesecake. Every night we had a different main course and each night we were blown away by the quality and flavour of our meals. We are already planning our next stay.

After 50 years of visiting San Diego and staying at various accommodations up and down the coast this is STILL our FAVE!!! The location, ambiance and Pool Bartender, Sierra, made our overall visit at this property OUTSTANDING!!!

Loved everything about Humphreys. Our room was by the kio pond and parrots. Was so much fun watching the Baby ducks and turtles and fish. We were celebrating our 25 th Anniversary . My husband picked this place and I loved it. We will definitely be back Hopefully in Aug for my Birthday. Everyone was so friendly. I felt like I was on a tropical Island. I can't say enough ,we totally had an awesome time. Thank You so much!!!

Sadly after looking forward to revisiting the Half Moon after some lovely meals here over the years we left feeling very disappointed. The menu and specials board were very small but it was a midweek evening and felt sometimes small isn't a bad thing. 2 of our party had soup, which was very nice and I had the smoked chicken with beetroot slaw which I enjoyed, hence 3 stars and not one or 2. Unfortunately the main courses were not so nice. I had the dartmoor beef lasagne but couldn't taste the meat or the sauce, as it was smothered in melted cheese. I might as well have had cheese on toast as that's what it tasted like and left an unpleasant aftertaste. My husband had the chicken and ham pie but said the pastry was soggy and the filling somewhat congealed, The vegetables were not very well cooked either. Another party member had fish and chips and found the batter soggy, the other had the 3 sausages and enjoyed it. Maybe this was the regular chef's day off? Because of our disappointment we didn't choose desserts and didn't raise our issues with staff at the time as we were meeting family members we don't often see and didn't want spend valuable time complaining. I must say however the staff were friendly and obliging and it is a pretty pub in a pretty village.

This was our second visit here. The location is great and walking distance to a number great restaurants. Our room was nestled in amount lush vegitation manicured sitting areas. It's like a piece of Hawaii on the mainland.

Beautiful hotel, they are currently doing construction but were mindful about the hours so it was not an inconvenience at all. Rooms are a good size and have modern amenities. Would definitely recommend!

Well located for visiting San Diego. Prefer rooms with a view of the marina.

The tub/shower is very slippery and unsafe. I'm in my thirties, in good shape. I stepped one foot into the shower and immediately slipped and smashed my other shin against the tub. The hotel opted to paint & reglaze the tub but skipped on adding a permanent nonslip surface. Instead they provided a small & stinky mat that wasn't sufficient to prevent my slip. I'm only here for one night & won't be returning.

The infrastructure is quite good and the standard of the rooms is acceptable. We spent quite a lot of money per night for having a room with a very small patio in front of the pool, facing the bushes surrounding the pool, with people passing by (no privacy) and with no sun (very dark room all day long even if outside it was one of the sunniest day we ever seen). This room was sold to us as 'tropical view' or 'garden view' room, but all we had was a couple of chairs outside the room with no sun or light. Housekeeping was only turning up at 4:20pm when we were trying to chill in our dark (depressing) room and we therefore we sent then away.

This is quite simply a wonderful pub! Great food, a warm welcome, and a great atmosphere! Although we live 30 miles away it’s still have begun to think of it as “my local”. Well worth going to!

Hubby and I stayed for a night and we had such a great time. Check in was easy and the ladies up front were so kind and professional.....our room was perfect size and very clean. We went to the backstage to see some friends play. Seating was tough as they brought in a huge crowd. However, the manager came out thanked us from coming and being patient as we waited. Bartender Zach made an amazing old fashioned...It was very very packed and servers did amazing. Other than seating and chairs/stools by bar that should have been moved since was a big crowd and only 2 bartenders who absolutely did an amazing job...we made some great memories and I highly suggest staying at Half Moon Inn. We will be back in the summer to just lounge and enjoy!!

When I first arrived it was amazing. I saw live jazz, ate at the amazing restaurant and took advantage of the warm jacuzzi. My room was very spacious and I was very happy with my stay. The heater didn’t work so I was given a space heater which was weird but I adapted and ended up staying 4 extra days. (Even though after seeing how wrong I was treated by management I should have changed rooms THEN then but I was trying to be nice and considerate) On my last day staying, the front desk calls to me let me know I need to change rooms even though I had been in the same room the four days prior. I explained how I just had major surgery and was there for a staycation in which they then told me that didn’t matter and I still needed to change rooms. They offered no help, and couldn’t care less. Very confused, I went to the front desk to ask for the manager on site. As soon as the guest services manager whose name starts with an M came it got worse instead of better. From the beginning, she was very rude and unprofessional. She came from behind the counter ready to scream, fight and belittle me instead of trying to fix the situation. I felt racially profiled and not safe. She then threatened to call the police after I explained to her I would move rooms. (Mind you I was on the property four days prior and had a great time) I just was confused on why I needed to change rooms. She doesn’t know how to properly deal with people who aren’t her same skin color. I live in La Jolla and have staycations around town often and have never been treated so wrong by someone who is at “work.” I went from an amazing room with a ceiling fan and very secluded to a small room in a weird area with no fan at all paying more than I need the previous four nights. The other staff were amazing, however the manager Melissa and the Assistant manager are rude and racist and I will be contacting corporate to further address my concerns so others don’t have to deal with being racially profiled at this location. EVERYTHING besides the two front desk managers unprofessionalism was amazing. All the staff were so friendly as well.

Our first visit and we booked again for next Sunday. Really delicious food, meat generous portions, very tasty vegetables, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy, everything fab. Lovely pub and area with very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

We had a fabulous New Year’s Eve stay here which included a wonderful pub lunch and an evening buffet. The hosts Kim & Haydn and their team made sure our stay was a very relaxed one and nothing was too much trouble. An excellent retreat in the Devon countryside. We will definitely return.

We chose to unwind at this tropical haven for a few days following our Disney Cruise before heading home—only wishing we could extend our stay. The ambiance exudes a super tropical and relaxing vibe with a Tiki tropical atmosphere. Our garden view suite is impressively spacious, clean, and architecturally pleasing, offering a nostalgic feel reminiscent of 1960s hotels but with modern conveniences. The hotel is meticulously maintained, and we're already planning our return. We love Humphreys! Rooms: Well-kept Walkability: Convenient walking distance to Bali Hai Noteworthy details: Incredibly charming, tropical, and well-maintained. The large pool, hot tub, and inviting fire pits add to the experience!

Beautiful, tropical-feel while still being minutes from everything in San Diego! The pool and hot tub were right outside our room which made it feel even more vacation-like. Loved listening to the live music of Air Supply from our hotel lanai. It is located on Shelter Island which also has so many amenities within walking distance that you can leave your car parked most days if you don’t have things to do. Easily accessible to freeways and USD for parents traveling to visit students.

The hotel is very nicely maintained. It’s close enough to the airport that the plane noise is obvious. The rooms are not soundproof at all. The maintenance workers start at 7 AM, so don’t expect to sleep in. The restaurant is beautiful! I wasn’t there for a concert, but the concert stage looks great! Our meeting room had a wonderful view of the harbor.

The grounds at Humphrey’s are really pretty and well kept. However, our room was exact opposite. Our room was not properly cleaned with a dirty/used soap bar on the floor, and someone else’s razor cover in the shower when we arrived. The tub was rusting and did not drain well. The mattress was well past its life span. The screen door to our patio was broken with multiple holes in the screen and the walls/doors are paper thin. All and all this property and staff were very nice when we brought it to their attention but, the room itself did not justify the price we paid for the experience we had.

Humphreys Half Moon Inn is absolutely adorable. It is located on Shelter Island and yes it is an island in San Diego, CA. You forget you are in the US when you are here. Turtles, parrots, fish, jacuzzi, pool, plenty of outdoor seating a the property is stunning. Great area for long walks. minutes away from some amazing restaurants and some good beer spots. I would definitely recommend this place.

I stayed at Hunphreys for 4 days. The room was ok. It was mostly clean, new furniture, old carpet but super dark. The hotel garden is so packed with trees, it feels claustrophobic. Location-wise you are in a marina, and disconnected from the downtown. You definitely need a car to go to restaurants and stuff. There is not much option in the walking distance. The staff were ok.

My friend rented a room and we hung out for ZZ top. It was a good show. Only complaint is that the dock will not let you leave without a key fob. This is a fire hazard

Very nice grounds with lots of foliage, comfortable rooms that are nothing special except some have nice views. The restaurant is good but a bit pricey for what you get.

This place is an excellent place to see a concert, either from your boat, or the small venue. If you would like to stay for a concert. Get a room looking from your balcony. Well worth it for a large group. I would get tickets on line when they go on sale sometimes in May to get good seats for the year. The only way to get up close.

Half moon inn was the second stop of a cycling trip to Plymouth. Such a lovely village location. Our room was quaint and well appointed. We enjoyed a delicious dinner and conversation with locals. Highly recommend!

We had the pleasure of having dinner at The Half Moon Inn, and what can I say every night was a great experience. We had our dinners in the main pub seating area. The food was outstanding, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend a drink and or dinner. We will for sure look forward to returning.

Perfect tonic for 4 weary cyclists after a gruelling ride over the Dartmoor hills. Spot on beer choice and dinner menu full of local produce and then to cap it off a comfy bed to crash. Thanks Hayden and the whole team.

We are down here on holiday and meet up with my brother.What can I say the hosts were very polite the food was excellent

Booked a table for 6 and we’re advised they were very busy so had to eat early. We were seated in the empty dining area and felt like Billy No Mates. It was cold and we had to listen to Roman Keating for over an hour. We choose this pub on its warm and welcoming atmosphere. Sadly that was very wrong. The food was good but the atmosphere in the empty dining room was depressing. If they had not wanted our booking they should have said. Very disappointed. Unlikely to return or recommend.

This is a lovely pub in an beautiful rural location. It was very busy the evening the 6 of us dined. Quite a limited menu and sold out of some of what we chose to order. We were surprised how some portions were much better than others, my son's curry was ridiculously small, the naan bread was a small wedge cut from a whole one!

We visited the Half Moon Inn last night as it was the last day of our holiday, the reception when we arrived was very friendly and we were seated immediately the food and drinks came out very quickly and the standard of food and service was amazing, thanks to all the staff for making it a very enjoyable experience.

We recently had a four night stay which we thoroughly enjoyed. Lovely room, comfortable bed, excellent shower in bathroom & everything we needed. We dined here each night, mostly in the dining room but also in the bar. Menu varied each night with good specials....

Stayed here to go fishing on the 7 miles of the river Toridge the pub owns. Sensible prices , good food, briliant friendly bar and if you are an angler fairly priced beats of all sorts and knowledgable staff who know their own waters. If...

Only reason it didn't get all 5 stars is the construction made the parking and eggress a challenge. But gorgeous place and a heck of a view

Throughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Booked the grand marina suite and was not disappointed. The pool was closed during my stay so the kids did miss out on swimming but overall great. Plan to stay again.

Great staff, location, grounds and pool. Rooms have issues and need updating and better maintenance. If not there for the concerts, it is very LOUD and no relaxing from 730 to 1030pm. Noise will rattle your brain.

Just finished a 3 night stay in a junior luxury suite. It was decent. Got the final bill at check out and found on top of the $10/day(usually $30/day fee?) for parking they also charge you $17/day to walk around with the key card to your room. Why? The room size is slightly bigger than your normal hotel room size. The room was cold. I tried setting the thermostat to 80 degrees and it still felt like 68. My guest was cold the couple hours they visited. Minor things like a bad lighting switch and unusable USB slot at the desk were not a huge deal but reported to the lobby attendant the first night there. After a dip in the pool I wanted to check out the fitness center. Some bald guy with glasses and a buttoned down shirt approached asking what I wanted while I was asking another worker for directions and acted like he thought I wasn't a guest there, asked for my key card, watched me very closely and then lied about it closing soon when it was still to be open for 3 more hours. Felt unfriendly and just weird. I think on show nights the staff are on edge more. Plus there's tons of construction going on at the front entrance where the lobby is. The parking lot is messy even 3 and 4 hours before shows with young people waiting outside. You may find yourself being forced to back up because others are trying to get through also. Plus there's big semis rolling in on show nights hours before unloading gear and they block off parts of the parking lot and actual road that goes through the area. This hotel has no room service, really? Never dealt with not having that option before. Weird. This is a good place to go for a show, if you get a little tipsy you can stay in your room instead of driving home. I can see that being the upside to staying here. The views of the bay are nice. A very nice walk to the friendship bell and back. The scenery around the stage area and the pools are very nice. I like the tropical feel to the place. I just noticed several things especially at my age that weren't fitting for my expectations. On nights that there are no shows it's peaceful. I enjoyed that. A good 3.5 rating I think is proper for my stay.

Stayed here for four nights. On 1st night had to have maintenance out twice to unstop the sink and fix the safe. The sink continued to drain very slowly which is a problem if you want to wash your hands. I was not informed at check in that you must call daily to request housekeeping. I did get service one of the four days but for unknown reasons it did not happen one day even though I had reserved a spot. On my last day the room safe would not open causing me to be late to my appointment - maintenance was not available until 7am. Be aware that parking is chaos on concert nights, which is frequent. If you are not going to the concert you will want to book away from the restaurant as it is very loud.

I ended up here to watch a live outdoors concert. Great experience, right by the bay! Lots of parking.

We had an amazing stay at Humphreys. We go to San Diego a lot and this will be our new go to hotel. My kids loved the pool and the area with the firepits.

I usually wait until I leave places to leave a review but I’ve been here 2 days & I can’t say enough wonderful things about this place! The rooms are extremely good (especially for the price point, like I was blown away at the amenities + storage they had. i got the smallest/cheapest room and it’s incredibly nice). It is clean, it is in a GREAT location, every area is beautiful. The tall mature palm trees around the resort really make this place feel cozy and honestly just show how much they care about keeping the grounds nice. The pool and hot tub were very clean with lots of space, there are koi ponds as well. Also the free concerts, plus a discount to their VERY yummy beautiful restaurant is insane with your rental. Genuinely the best place I’ve ever stayed at when traveling, I wish I could take this place to every destination so I could stay here.

Nice location, rooms are dates and poorly maintained. Don’t be mislead by the website photos as they are falsely advertised. I recently stayed at Humphreys for a second time to give it another chance. It was for my daughters birthday weekend and we were so very disappointed with the condition of the rooms and found that the photos that are posted on the website are misleading. The Marina and gardens are nice. The rooms are par with a motel quality and are dated and not well maintained. The rooms also smelled very old because the furniture probably had not been cleaned in a while. The website did not disclose that the rooms are currently under renovation which is misleading and falsely advertised. Nor do the prices reflect such. The services was good and the staff responded to the broken sink immediately, The staff were nice and responded to the broken sink immediately, but the maintenance person had to fix the sink stopper during our stay. My husband also had to fix the kitchen cabinet door because the screw was loose. Luckily he had his Leatherman. If you’re not concerned with the condition of hotel rooms this may be the location for you,: however if you are concerned with the condition of your hotel room I would not recommend this hotel. I really did try to give it another shot.

If only the inside matched the beauty displayed on the outside… this hotel sadly was a huge disappointment upon arrival the grounds and lobby were quite stunning. I was so excited but when I got to my room it was a huge letdown the room was so outdated the beds or so uncomfortable and the bathtub was clogged… While they did send someone upstairs to fix it it was still a huge Inconvenience after traveling all day. I will say Chris the front desk gentleman did try his best.He still could not undo all the mishaps. Be aware I had to have the room clean because there was hair everywhere and inside of the refrigerator which was disgusting. I asked for another room they could not accommodate for all the money you spend and all the fees what am I paying for exactly! Horrible night sleep due to a comfortable bed the entire room needs to be redone and an investment needs to be made in the bed and furniture just the same way they make the outside look gorgeous… Really wish my time had been better :(

We stayed a week (very expensive). Did not like the bathroom setup. Did not care for parrots outside my balcony squawking all day. The appearance of the room appeared very shabby, furniture well beyond the replacement stage. I would look for another place next time I visit.

What a beautiful property! At first I was sad that I was in a room far from the lobby and pool, but it turned out to be amazing, private, and have a great view of the bay at night! I will be back again, this time with my family. Plenty of room to roam on the grounds, and perfect for solo trips, couples and families!

Our family vacationed in San Diego and this resort was such a nice retreat from the city. We loved the pool area, fire tables, restaurant and the concert was a nice plus! We have already recommended it to other families!

Great view and location nice pool, but unfortunately there is no room service cleaning unless requested 24 hours ahead. The tv's in the room were super glitchy which made it really annoying to watch a movie with family. Please clean the koi pond it stunk.

Great place to stay, nice quality rooms and a beautiful view of the water. As well as the really great Macaws that were around from time to time!

I usually love staying at this place. Love the atmosphere, but I got an older room this time around that needed upkeep. Subpar for the price of the room. Front desk was welcoming and nice though.

Great place to stay or see shows.
