these micropubs are becoming essential for some as pubs close everywhere, and can be cool places. This was worth a try and prob has its regulars and locals, but not on my list of truly cool venues for a visitor. Sorry!

The worst service I’ve experienced, such a rude bartender which gave us such an unwelcome reception when enquiring about alcohol free options. Blunt, unhelpful and unfriendly. I work in customer service myself and I would never dream of treating a customer like this even on a bad day. The way the owner has replied to poor reviews in the past clearly shows they cannot take constructive criticism and have some sort of complex. Hard pass for me in the future.

Contrary to the previous review, my experiences of this delightful pub have left me wondering if we were in the same place! The Pig and Pickle is a great pub, it's the heart and soul of Heavitree. They have different, locally brewed beers and ciders on tap every week, a great selection of high quality wines and lots of non alcoholic options too, including soft drinks and a couple of non-alcoholic beers. They host a vinyl night on the first Thursday of every month which has an amazing atmosphere. Pizzas are available to order in on Thursdays and Fridays as well. As for the owner's response to past reviews, I find it refreshing to witness someone unapologetically standing behind their establishment. It's evident they value authenticity and aren't afraid to defend their team when needed. In a world of generic apologies, it's a breath of fresh air to see a proprietor who knows their worth. In conclusion, this pub is a gem where the only complex you might encounter is deciding which drink to enjoy next. As for me, it's a definite return, and I'll gladly navigate any supposed "hard passes" along the way. Cheers to a place that turns rudeness into a myth!

I didn't find the service particularly friendly. The welcome wasn't particularly warm. We were asked if we had finished drinking before everyone had actually finished drinking and then were not-so-subtly asked to vacate the table before our drinks barely had a chance to go down! My entire party felt that we were rushed to leave. This is not the first time we've found the service here below par.

A good alternative boozer on Heavitree's Fore street. The others tend to be more pub sports and mass market. This has niche tasting beers, seating on proper benches and tables. It could do with being a bit bigger as it does get busy. It is a micro brewery selling pub so not all the beers might be to your taste and it is a little premium. A very worthwhile alternative to the other more mainstream pubs clustered along Fore Street. Potentially it could be better, I am not sure how often the beers change for instance or whether they keep on a regular beer or two. I don't believe they sell food. It's good space to have beers with friends.

I was going to leave a 1 star review, but only to see the owner make a T shirt out of it and wear it 😂 all jokes aside, this is an awesome bar. Such an awesome range of brews that are all banging! Excellent micro pub, sells a great range of ever changing beers. Quirky beers from different local breweries that you don’t find in any other pubs in exeter. Despite being small it’s a good fun place, a place you could go into alone but end up making friends. There’s no other place like it in the area so cherish it. Always interesting music playing, vinyl nights show how they like people to get involved by bringing a favourite record along to put on. A no frills bar where you get what you ask for. Beer is always on point. Owner is a good laugh too and makes a point of having a laugh with the customers. What’s not to like? I wish there were more pubs like this around, you know places you go to enjoy a drink, some banter and some peanuts not a gastropub that doesn’t want ordinary drinkers. Love this place

My experience from this micro pub is not a good one, the owner has some deep rooted issues, as he comes across very unhelpful and he gives you the impression he does not want to be there, or engage with the customers, he is reluctant to give any advice if you ask him about the beers or any of the alcoholic drinks on the board. I have never be served by such a rude person in my entire life, which does not make you feel comfortable or want to spend your hard earned money in there. I have noticed there are not a lot of customers when I go in there and I can see why due to the unwelcoming atmosphere from a grumpy owner. It is such a shame as it has so much potential and the beers and stouts are very nice, but I will be taking my custom to the Ship and Pelican as the staff are accommodating and friendly and you feel valued as a customer and that is where I will be spending my money in a friendly pub that appreciates their customers. Pubs cannot afford to lose their customers and 400 pubs have disappeared from communities in England and Wales, I think the owner needs to wake up and start valuing his customers before it’s too late.

A real gem in Exeter, and the fact that it always seems quite busy despite (or because of) being close to 3 fairly mediocre pubs means they must be doing something right. There are lots of beers on tap that are not often seen elsewhere and change all the time. Throw in good music and a nice atmosphere then it is really worth a visit.

Me and my friends have been going to Pig and Pickle now for over a year and we have finally had enough of the rude owner/staff. They make it a very intimidating and unpleasant place to go and they make you feel like a nuisance and a pain for ordering a drink at their establishment. Me and 8 of my local Heavitree friends are now boycotting the bar because we have all had enough of the service. They really do need to work on their customer service and it is no surprise to me to see some similar reviews criticising the service. A real shame. Manners cost nothing.

Current guidelines are followed, no hanging around at the bar, everyone was nicely spaced out and a good vibe with decent music. Beer's not cheap these days so you want to make sure you enjoy it when you do go out. Lovely selection of on-tap beers and ciders, even more lovely were some of the bottles and cans chilled down. Something for everyone, all contactless payments (even before CV19), tracked and traced via simple email instructions on the bar. Small seating area out front but fine for the smokers. An important local gem we must all continue to support.
