Oh dear, what a disappointment, cod and salmon en croute, salmon with skin on, rich sauce no taste but swimming in oil, garden peas like bullets.. they did discount for poor food, but it should not be so poor.

Visited and had food many times before and always been ok but not today (Father's Day). I ordered brie wedges as a starter but they were frozen in the middle so I sent them back. The vegetables with the main were very under cooked (especially the carrots which were raw) and the fish my husband had was dry (mine was ok). The lady serving us was very apologetic and gave us money off but there's something to be said about the chef if they can't cook veg as we've had under cooked veg before.

What an amazing place! We are a walking group and didn’t know our exact numbers until the day, but this was no problem for our booking. We received a warm welcome, had great service and the food was delicious - obviously home cooked and was served promptly. The 2 course special menu was such amazing value! The beer selection is fantastic from the onsite brewery. Everyone in the group had commented on what a fantastic pub this is, and it will definitely be on our future list again! Highly recommended!

Not good for Christmas Day dinner, food was not what we expected. Old, overcooked, pale veg. Brandy sauce with skin on. Witnessed the waiting staff picking each other’s spots and plucking nose hairs with tweezers in the kitchen. Witnessed another table complain about what they had also observed to the lady who was apparently running the pub that day, she laughed it off saying ‘Oh they’re just the tweezers out of the crackers.’ Oh great that’s ok then! Just paid £67 a head to eat a teenage kids spot puss and nose hairs! Won’t be eating here again. Disgusting.

We have been to this restaurant on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed the food and the service is normally excellent. Our family live quite far apart, and this is one of the few times in a year that we normally get together. The table was booked for after the lunch time rush and we weren’t in the main restaurant, but previously that hadn’t been a problem. We’d ordered 3 starters but we were only served with 2 until we asked for the 3rd which obviously hadn’t been ordered and we had to wait for it to be cooked. We were served our mains, and it seemed as though we were abandoned due to staff shortages. No query about the standard of the food or if we needed more drinks. Although we were served promptly when we stopped a passing staff member and asked for more. A server started to clear our table but left for the day part way through, with no one taking over. Other staff were laying up for the evening service, but ignoring the people who were already there. We were going to have dessert, and had the menu blackboard on the table, but with a young child and a baby, after 10 minutes wait, we decided not to wait any longer for our order to be taken. Very disappointed by today’s experience. Definitely not up to the standard we’ve normally experienced.

It was very busy so service was a little slow but every member of staff was helpful, friendly and polite . Lovely desserts just a shame they were already running out . Overall would definitely return and recommend.

I had heard loads of good things about this pub cos the Sperrin Brothers brew their own beer!!! The draught beer was indeed fantastic and I tried two different pints and wow!! BUT we had come to eat cos we know the sister pub the Blue Boar where the food is great. Well.....we should have stuck with the Blue Boar. Two of us had the mixed grill (medium) and I had the all day breakfast. What a suprise, the medium grill was TOO WELL done to be honest and even my bacon and sausages were cooked to a frazzle. Not a good food experience but the beer was wonderful!!

I asked to speak to chef Harry afterwards because it was genuinely the nicest food I've eaten in as long as I can remember. I had the leek and potato bake in creamy sauce, with a large portion of piping hot huge, chunky chips and peas - every mouthful was divine. My partner's mixed grill was cooked to perfection as well. Our starters were the stilton and broccoli soup with piping hot bread rolls and butter which also tasted amazing. The inn resembles a ship with undulating floors that slightly unbalance you on the way to the bar but which add to the overall experience. The staff were absolutely lovely - every single one we spoke to was welcoming, friendly and focused on customer service. For two starters and two main courses - one a huge mixed grill - we thought £46 was fantastic. Absolutely 100% will be returning - I suspect many times.

Another eat out to help out experience and this was first rate. One minor criticism and so familiar in many a restaurant, either the floor or its legs were uneven causing our table to wobble. So ... today was what was supposed to be the first family get together with my dad where we could all get together for 2 and a half years. He’s 89 and about to go on a big trip. As a vegetarian I thought it wise to pre-check with the restaurant that I could be catered for on a Sunday. This was done days in advance ... only thing I didn’t want on my dinner would of course be any meat products ... and peas. They messaged back with a few tasty suggestions... apparently the chef could make any of the dishes to order. We arrived today... I excitedly chose what I was hoping to eat, but asked if I could have it with the veg you would have on a Sunday dinner. I did ask to check if the gravy was veggie which wasn’t in my original message ... just occurred to me at the time as many places I eat at offer a separate veggie gravy or cheese sauce. The waitress had to come back several times for different reasons... firstly they didn’t have the cordial we had originally chosen.. so I just suggested an alternative, then to tell me the gravy was meat... I was ok ... just cheekily asked for extra roast potatoes ... I seriously did not wish to make a fuss... then the waitress quite rightly came back to tell me that the potatoes were cooked in meat product... sigh... back and forth, back and forth like a fiddlers elbow... too and from the kitchen ... back to me. I’m getting more and more embarrassed. I would have been happy with my choice of dinner, veg etc... no gravy... but then I was questioned and told I had messaged the wrong Lord Nelson with my food enquirey... seriously?!!!! Apparently the difference is if you message The Lord Nelson... it Lord Nelson. By this time I’m sinking into my seat thinking that the other diners must think I’m an idiot or just a nightmare to serve ... so I said ... tell you what forget my main... i’ll Just have my starter as this is embarrassing. I then took a moment to check the source of my original message... low and behold ... I’d sent it via the right Facebook page ... via their own messenger ... so... rather than have the waitress come back yet again and embarrass my family and make us feel even more uncomfortable ... I thought I’d pop up to the bar... with my phone to show them. The entrance where the waitresses were and members of the kitchen staff... openly moaning about me... looking at a device ... at my messages ... and me standing there listening to them all. At this point ... I’d had enough... I was completely mortified, my family meal is ruined... I returned to the table to apologise to my family for all the fuss and left the table completely mortified. God knows what the other diners though! Whilst waiting for my taxi I sent the following message ... to the messenger account that I’d originally contacted ... theirs! Thank you for totally ruining what is a very rare Sunday lunch with my dad ... I don’t think I asked for much... I was happy not to have vegetarian gravy ... I clearly have the correct Lord nelson page ... I do not expect sending a waitress over to bicker with me ...And for me to come up to the bar and see you all rudely disagreeing that I’d send a message to the wrong page ... shocking... both messengers were read immediately. As for my dad ... who has eaten at The Lord Nelson on a regular basis for donkeys years ... he said on his exit to a member of staff apparently that he would never eat there again. If you can’t cope with a simple vegetarian request ... you need to thank crikey I wasn’t a vegan. Avoid at all costs if you value food manners and customer services

Spice Girls in town so couldn’t get into Coventry so my wife and I headed for one of our favourite local pubs, the Lord Nelson Inn at Ansley near Nuneaton. We had our dog with us so knew we could sit in the bar with him and order food. The rain pelted down so it seemed apt to choose for steak & ale pie for my wife and Bangers and Mash for me! Both arrived promptly and well cooked and priding themselves on using local produce and being home cooked food, the meals did not disappoint! The pie was first rate, a generous slice, chockfull with top quality steak served with chips and peas; the bangers were meaty and nicely spiced, mash a bit over-mashed imo but onion gravy was perfect! A very tasty treat on an unusually cold June evening! The bar was full of friendly locals and the staff was friendly and helpful - slightly surreal sitting in a pub full of naval paraphernalia in Warwickshire, this pub has great beer and great food! Firstly the pub is very traditional, lovely atmosphere, loads of punters eating what looked like good sized portions of a variety of quality pub grub. Visited this pub early on a Friday evening. Although the decor is a little tired, the pub was cosy and the staff very friendly and attentive. Took a lucky dip on their own brewed ales and came up trumps - the 'Third Party' ale was very nice indeed. We ordered two meals - and both were very nice - made a nice change to not be served chips with everything. The Beef Stroganoff and the Steak and Mushroom pie went down very well - especially with the Third Party. A couple of very minor points - the pie would have been even better had it been a little more moist/saucy and the Stroganoff even nicer with a little less garlic. All in all a very pleasant experience and happy to recommend this pub for its beer / food / service etc. Hope to return soon and will look out for a Summer beer festival

We visited this establishment on Boxing Day, for a pre-booked festive menu meal. There were four of us, and although we had eaten at the Lord Nelson Inn on a previous occasion, it was several years ago so we had little idea of what to expect. It is safe to say all four of us were more than pleasantly surprised. Service was first class and, despite the fact that the place was packed with customers, delays were insignificant. The set menu was three courses, and coffee and mince pies to finish. Four or five choices for each course, to suit every taste, and which we took full advantage of. The starters were of a good size and excellent. We each had a different main course, the diversity of the menu impressive! Portions were of a good size; Not too big, but plentiful, with a good selection of vegetables served as side dishes. Especially recommended is the Steak and Ale pie, which was more than adequate in size and full of good quality meat in a gravy of the Perrins ale brewed on the premises. A wide choice of desserts followed, again with us each having something different, and the portions of a good size. Finally, coffee, with mints, and Mince Pies. There was nothing we could find fault with, especially the smooth efficiency of service and we certainly intend to visit the Lord Nelson Inn again very soon! All in all a very enjoyable experience. Well done to all the staff!

The last few times I have noticed that prices have gone up, which I’m not complaining about but I am complaining when you get less food on your plate for the money. Also noticed how dusty and unclean the place is. If you have cleaners I would have a serious word with them. The walls are thick with dust and cobwebs also pictures on the walls. This is very off putting when you are sitting right next to it eating. Just feel the place needs a total full clean up or even a makeover as it’s looking very dark and dirty. Very disappointing.

Been coming here on and off for years and most of the time had a great meal. Went for a family meal all of us wanting a fillet steak only to be told they had ran out at 7.30 on a Saturday night. Having chosen something else we then had to wait an hour before staters came. Very disappointed ☹️

I thought I was in Camden Town ie London prices ? ! We ordered two soups,a whole plain pork pie, two soda waters and a pint of ale . The cost was £26 something . I was really shocked as the pub has been recommended. Hey ho will not go back as I do not like being ripped off. No complaints about the quality of the pork pie, soup, soda water and pint of ale.........just the price

Ordered Roast beef meal and Steak and mushroom meal. The roast beef was virtually uneatable, full of gristle, Roast potatoes cremated. The Steak and mushroom meal was a dried up pie, obviously been in the oven a long time to keep it warm. The Apple pie and custard consisted of a very under cooked pastry. Sherry trifle was just what seemed tin fruit with custard and cream poured over, not sure what happened to the sherry. Service was so slow, one poor waitress doing everything so obviously understaffed. Had to chase where the deserts had got to. Sent a message to the kitchen about the quality of especially the main course, but no one bothered to come out and apologize. So the first rule of running a business was obviously missed. Advertises meat from Frank Parker's Butchers of Nuneaton. I have had their meat, this was nothing like it. Have been there many times but never again, but who cares, they seem to have plenty of customers. But of course one day they might be glad of the one's they have lost.

The Lord Nelson Inn is themed on Nelson and the décor is well done worth a visit for the décor. Atmosphere is good and service brisk and cheerful. Food was a bit of a mixed bag with very good starters - a chef who knows that Lettice is the right start to a salad not mixed leaves - mains so so with poor chips and salmon overdone at one end. Small desert selection but Lemon Meringue was OK. Could be great with some attention to small food details.

A Frank Parker Rib Eye Steak is NOT oval, Has Fat in the middle, no grizzle on the outside and is well over 1cm thick. It is also tender and full of taste. The so called "Frank Parker's Rib eye Steak" served to me last night was not only an imposter but was over cooked, Medium rare yet no pink in it at all. Stop passing off mediocre steaks as Frank Parker's. Of the last 4 times we have visited we have been disappointed on 3 of them, burnt or cold food or not getting food as advertised/ordered. We won't be back again for a long time.

Wanted some where to take my husband with my mother & father in law for my husbands birthday. Checked a few places to find that they only do a lunchtime menu! How disappointing but soon got over that to realise that the Lord Nelson near Nuneaton as always had its full menu on as it does every lunch time and evening. We have visited the Nelson on many occasion and have never been let down with the food. Patè for two, victory mushrooms and a prawn and crayfish salad to start. Lovely. Four steaks, three with cheese melts on and one with sauce, EXCELLENT! Cooked to perfection on each order, which all varied with plenty of chips or salad. Service with a smile. Lovely, welcoming gent behind the bar who took our orders and checked if everything was okay each time we went to the bar. Sherry trifle for mother in law as she was the only one who could fit a sweet in! Large portion but very attractively presented in a tall glass dish with plenty of cream and sauce on top. All in all superb! With definitely be continuing to use this pub and restaurant as we could fault it.

The food hear used to be excellent but went down hill. Had a terrible meal here after they won pub of the year but thought we would give it another try wished we hadn't bothered a well done steak was so burnt it was like eating charcoal and that was accompanied with a frozen jacket potatoe and when I say frozen I mean ice in the middle. Will not be returning and id advise people to think twice about going here

Very pleasing that the staff were concerned that I had an enjoyable time and when I explained that I was diabetic and couldn't have any of the sugary deserts on offer they went out of their way to prepare something which wasn't on the menu. Many other restaurants would have had a take it or leave it attitude.

I used to be a regular visitor never having a bad meal, but I came before Xmas for lunch and was disappointed on that occasion my fish was dry and served on cold plate, but as the staff were run ragged I did not say anything. I came here again recently and had the steak and ale pie, chips and peas, I have had the pie before and the meat filling was lovely but the pastry was stodgy, colour of pastry off putting and tasted of cardboard. Chips were standard but nothing exciting. Sorry to give this review but won't be back until someone tells me it has improved.

First class establishment. Wonderful choice of real ale brewed on the premises (Sperrin Brewery) We didn't use the restaurant but the food looked very good and it was a busy place. We unfortunately live some 90 miles away but will eat there when we are back in the area. I did have half a home-made pork pie to go with my several pins. It was excellent and a choice of beer all under £3.

Pet peeve is serving a bread roll that obviously comes out of the freezer and needs baking, in its raw state just blasted in a microwave. Why would a trained chef do that. So unappetising.Typical pub food, though not great quality Mums fish dish was very watery and she did not eat much as felt it was old. My scampi was fine. The Nelson needs modernising, it's dark and dingy, and just looks drab and grubby. There are much better pubs offering a similar menu, with better quality food, in more pleasant environments. Need to up their game if want to compete. That said staff were very nice and toilets clean

I have been eating here regularly for many years but standards and customer service seem to be on a decline . I ordered a ploughmans and my son ordered a special burger with pulled pork .The ploughmans was advertised as having mature cheddar but it was cheap mild cheddar, the bread rolls was too hard to break so asked for it to be changed, the replacement was even worse - when I complained I was told that it should never had been sent out but there was no offer of anything as an apology . My sons burger came with a teaspoon of pulled pork - difficult to spot. Very disappointing

We used to eat here regularly but haven't been for a couple of years thought we would go again what a mistake the burger was bland and tasteless the lasagne has large clumps of congealed meat in it the children's pizza was a microwave one and for the price you can go to other independents and get a far better meal.

There is nothing nicer than to be able to go to your local pub and get a reasonably priced menu served in pleasant surroundings and the beer is good (says my husband who is currently working through the entire collection) even nicer is the fact that they welcome dogs which means we can walk the dog, have a drink and we usually get into conversation with some nice people - Britains Pubs at their finest!

APPALLING! Possibly the worst service I have ever received anywhere. Multiple menu items not available, when the restaurant was empty, having booked in advance. Only made aware of this a long time after we had ordered and paid. When we complained we were told 'there had been no inconvenience!'. Each time we complained, another child came to tell us the same, no resolutions offered at any stage, even when we asked! We were told, by the same children, the manager was un-available. (we could see her behind the bar!). so we asked more and were told the same. After realising we were not going to get any food, we asked for a refund. When they processed this - they charged us the full bill again! When we tried again for further refunds, they were unable to process. None of them knew how to work the machine. The manager was still behind the bar, and at no pint came to assist. Several groups waiting to be served, subsequently left without any food or drink! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I have just walked in to this fish and chip shop. The girl behind the counter looked at me walking in as she was rubbing and scratching her nose!! Then quickly flicked something off the paper that the food is going to be wrapped up in!!! Was a dry boggie!! Then she proceeded to ask me what I wanted. I asked her to wash her hands!!! She went out the back . The owner said nothing . I asked for my money back and canceled my order. DISGUSTING!
