Beautiful pub in a lovely location, sadly the bar person lacked friendliness and good customer service skills. We were made to feel unwelcome. We attended on Thursday afternoon.

Moored up on the canal for the night and went in to see what they had to offer. To say we were blown away is an understatement - the owners were engaging and friendly and knowledgeable and clearly love their place, they recommended the Malaysian food and it did not disappoint. Everything was absolutely incredible and we've bookmarked the place to come back! Outside seating available, dog friendly, free overnight mooring available - what more could you possibly ask for?

Proper old fashioned pub, great staff and very friendly, food was excellent and well prepared, I would definitely visit again if I was in the area

This is a beautiful little pub,service and food is excellent ,we have a fussy little dog,he will only eat certain foods,the lady behind the bar went to the kitchen and came back with some beef for him,he absolutely loved it,she wouldn’t accept any money for it,it made our day and the dogs ,a big thank you to the Dog and Doublet,we will be back,and anyone reading this should go there and support our pubs .

Amazing staff and the food was beautiful.

Really poor impression of Chinese Food. We ordered Thai fish cakes and spring rolls as starters the fish cakes were mass produced and rubbery and the frozen vegetable spring rolls were cold in the middle! The mains Chinese chicken curry and vegan Chinese chicken curry was quite poor we’d asked for the chicken curry to be extra spicy which didn’t happen poor and disappointing! Egg fried rice was good chips very hot but cooked in very old fat smelt like Blackpool chips. My husband commented that my Chinese chicken curry (vegan) was 300% better than this! And 100% fresher !! But what really hit the nail on the head was that not one person bothered to come over and ask if the meal was ok 🤷‍♀️ there was a table of 12 next to us and 4 people including the chief came over and asked if the food was ok 🤦‍♀️. Come on guys we are locals and usually bring an army of family with us at least 10 people of which due to your extremely poor service you have just lost! You may cash in on your summer trade of people holidaying on barges or caravan holidays but in the winter you’re left with your locals 🤷‍♀️ your customer service was s…t!!

Really lovely food (we were there on an Asian evening). Great price for a plentiful plate. Really friendly and accommodating staff. Dogs were made welcome.

Visited today (23rd June) as we wanted a nice lunch and were very impressed. The extremely warm welcome we received on entering, to the rest of the service and food was brilliant. Advised us on menus and where there was seating and then the food. Home made steak and Stilton pie, was so tasty and full of meat and also the steak baguette, where the steak simply fell apart and both were decently priced. Will definitely return, if this was closer would be there a lot!

Went there just for a pot of tea, my wife and I were charged £5 for 2 Yorkshire tea bags, couldn't even get a pot as they only do cups, never again, what a total waste of time, completely a RIP OFF

Bang average food but a really lovely pub. Went here for lunch today and was underwhelmed by the menu and food, it was merely ok. Not quite acceptable in this day and age. Lovely location and great views from the canal at the back. Had a great time sat in the sun with a cider.

The worst Chinese i have ever had don't do it beer and service ok but Peter should retire

Great food, so much more interesting than normal canal side pub fayre. We had Malaysian curry with rice and a Malaysian noodle dish which were both fabulous. Thai fish cakes and salt and pepper ribs (get these you will not regret it!). Very friendly staff, great value for money. What a pleasant surprise on our holiday!

What a great experience! We rocked up on the boat at about 3pm but unfortunately, the pub was shut. I finally found a site that told us it would open at 5pm. We decided to see what they had to offer. I am so glad we did! It was a Chinese day! The food was absolutely amazing and the service was second to none!

Great food and service. Portions very large so second visit had childrens meals which were more than adequate. Third visit absolutely brilliant chinese meal. All prices very fair. A very warm and friendly Pub.

Food was beautifully cooked,served with a smile,bar lady was very friendly and polite, toilets spotless, after lunch we had a walk along the canal. Plenty of tables outside, a lovely play area for the children to play,the back entrance is very useful for wheelchairs and pushchairs.lovely old pub.

Fantastic pub...we were there when there were only two staff in, on a busy weekend. They worked so hard and were so friendly too. We had a great meal sitting by the canal.

Visited this evening as was googling for a pub with play area for the kids outside. Absolutely blown away by what we found! Service/staff were exceptional, food was incredible and the venue is lovely. Will definitely be back and will be telling everyone I know about it! 100/10.

Did not stay overnight, but i did have a meal and a couple of pints. The bar was a traditional country pub, with a wide selection of beers and wines. The lady behind the bar(possibly landlady was very welcoming and had a great knowledge of the different unique ales meal was good as well

Omg what a lovely pub this is. Great staff, great food, great locals. We called to stay overnight in our campervan. A lovely setting by the canal with lovely walks. Gail and the other lovely bar person were amazing… we got bogged down on the grass!!! Thanks Dennis (local) for trying to pull us out (superstar). Happy memories.

Whilst staying at the local Caravan and Camping site. We visited the pub to find very over priced drinks. We have Grandchildren but don't appreciate children running around the pub squealing. Sitting on the bar. Locals being served first even though you're first in the queue. We went in to have an evening for a chat. This didn't happen as we were unable to enjoy our conversation. Stear clear if you want a pub atmosphere and not a crech.

Staying locally and came here for lunch with a large group. Was absolutely stunned by the menu: classic pub grub and then a HUGE Asian menu, which was all incredibly delicious. I am vegan and had the vegan chicken satay which was top notch. Also range of beer was great with Timothy Taylor Boltmaker on tap.

Stayed in the car park in our motor home. Direct access to walk along the canal to Kingsbury water park. Had a delicious meal in the pub the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a constant sound of traffic through the night but not enough to spoil our sleep.

Very expensive but tasty food. the pub looks run down. In need of a refurb if going to charge almost £20 for a main.Wouldn't mind the price of food if you had some table service. When ordering drinks the range was limited with certain items run out or pumps broken. 6 mains and 5 drinks £140+ and I was still hungry after.

Excellent beers. Varied and vast menu. Chinese menu also. Pleasantly welcoming staff. Canal side location. Enjoyed a lovely Chinese lunch and a couple of pints as we cruised past in our narrowboat.

A bit expensive and not enough staff

We last visited this pub over 30 years ago when we lived nearby. As we were passing in our campervan we contacted Jacqueline the landlady and asked if we could park up for the night in the pub car park. She was happy to let us and we ate in the pub. The food and service was really excellent despite being a member of staff down. The real ale was also very good. There have been some negative reviews however our experience was excellent and just as good as it was 30 years ago.

We were running late but were served the most incredible Malaysian lamb curry and ... he of course had a few pints of the many choices of beer. They made us feel so very welcome and after such an awful day and dreadful journey... You really couldn't ask for more!

Absolutely beautiful place! All the staff are very welcoming and you quickly feel like you're at home! There is a canal out the back where you can sit and enjoy the weather and relax, watching the narrow boats pass by. My wife and I frequent the Dog and Doublet quite often as it's a nice little treat for us

Fabulous older style pub with an excellent menu and great, friendly staff. Brilliant choice if drinks available for any taste. Had Peter’s Chinese and Malaysian menu on Friday night which was excellent, so tasty and filling. Great choice on offer and really reasonably priced. We also had the Sunday lunch menu which was a traditional roast dinner with all the trimmings. So much food that we won’t need to eat again today. Would like to thank Jacqueline and her team for making our Easter weekend so special. Hopefully will see you again during the summer!!

Absolutely shocking experience, I would avoid at all costs. Our table was booked for 3pm, our food didn't arrive until 4.30pm. We were not told there would be a delay when we ordered. At about 4pm one person in our party of four was given a plate of food, after eating about half of it someone took it away saying it was for a different table, it was at that point they told us the chef hadn't even started cooking our food yet but only said this when we asked where our food was. The waitress serving us also just put the plate in the middle of the table rather than to who it was for and walked away. We tried to get an update but it seemed as if the staff were trying to avoid talking to us at all costs. When it came, the beef was dry, the gammon was cold (and had it's string on it), the mash was like play dough and had a skin forming on top, the potatoes and Yorkshire looked like they had come from an aunt bessies freezer bag, the cabbage was soggy. It was mostly inedible. Apparently they think this roast is worth £16.95 - please see picture and judge for yourselves. Even without the delay I would not expect to pay more than £5 for this piss poor excuse for a roast dinner. It was only when we complained and asked for a refund that the landlady asked what we thought was a fair price, I explained my thoughts which insulted her and in the end only gave the cost of one roast as a refund. Our party just wanted to get away rather than complain further so begrudgingly accepted this. Don't waste your time or money here the whole experience I would say is the worst restaurant experience of my life.

We'd booked a meal on a Sunday to enjoy after we'd walked the dogs along the canal towpath and were really looking forward to it. After 75 minutes I asked where our food was, to be told there was a 45 minute wait, I explained we were 30 minutes past that point! I tried asking again after another 6-7 minutes to get a hand and a 'give me a minute', so rude. After another couple of minutes I asked again and the food finally came out, obviously having been in the oven for at least 20 minutes because the gravy was dried on the plate and the mash had a crust. We complained and left. They were obviously very busy which is good, but it really isn't too much to ask for someone to come over and explain the delay. I do not appreciate being told to 'give me a minute' when I've already waited as long as it takes to cook the meal. J Copplestone-Jones

This is a well run traditional pub With a warm and please reception. The beer is kept at traditional temperature The food by Peter is also excellent and well priced. If we journey back to this part of the country , we will definatly come back

Great food, open fire and fantastic bar staff. Steak & Ale pie was delicious. Big chunks of steak. Best I've had in a long while. Oh yes, the chips were crisp and fluffy.

The view we had sat at the picnic benches was beautiful with a clear view of the loch and canal boats.

Staying at the local campsite. This pub is a nice 15 minute walk along the canal. Just as well we had booked a table as very busy. We ate on a Friday night, so was Chinese menu, it was absolutely delicious. Staff very friendly, great service. If we are ever back in the area would come again.

Returned after many years. Decided to book for food later that day. Was told it was Chinese menu after 5pm. I was tiny disappointed, however when I ate it turned out the best Chinese meal I've ever eaten. I'll definitely return again and again. Thanks

Unfortunately half the menu was unavailable so opted for soup and a roll. Shame that the soup was tinned vegetable and the part baked roll didn't seem to have seen an oven at all. One not to go back too.

The Dog and Doublet is a great place to chill out after a walk or bike ride along the canal. I love to sit outside here in the summer, either at the side of the canal or on the lawned area at the side of the pub. You can look forward to a warm cosy fire inside in the colder months of the year. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

One of the staff working behind the bar is SO UNFRIENDLY! She really behaves as if she is so unhappy and resentful to serve the customers! I have rarely seen such an attitude ever! Of course anyone can have a bad day, or be going through a difficult time, but guess what, in this job you should just make an effort, no matter how you are feeling. There were two women behind the bar on both occasions I'm referring to. One of them was super friendly and made customers feel very welcome ( long dark hair and a northern accent ) The other, ( blonde hair, with a horrible attitude) was the rudest I have come across! I wouldn't normally feel so strongly but I saw an advert for this place describing..." a warm and friendly welcome." FALSE ADVERTISING, I say.

What a welcome. It makes such a difference. I can not say just how welcome we were made to feel (sorry, i do not know your name). But, from the moment we arrived, the bar staff (lady) were amazing, just how it should be, in my opinion. The customer is king. And made to feel just like that, well done. Everything done with a smile. And apart from that, the food! AMAZING. Great beer and ale, great location, love a canal side pub. We will be back and would definitely recommend 👌

Came in yesterday at around 1pm, the lady behind the bar seen that my nan was waiting to be served, ignored her and served the people waiting behind her. Very rude, put my grandparents off having food there so they went somewhere else.

Been here many times for drink and food but not sure whats happened the staff were still very friendly but the quality was certainly off today. The ales were awful I had the steak pie which looked and tasted like it had been kept warm for hours the vegetables were un edible I like my veg undercooked but the cauliflower was almost raw gravy and chips nice though

Oh dear been here many times before and the food and drink had always been good I don't know what's happened straight away no paper in the men's toilets 4 ales on tap which is great shame 2 of them were awful . Had steak pie which was dry and looked like it had been warming for hours vegetables were raw cauliflower unedible. Chips and gravy nice though . We won't be rushing back

We were staying on the Camping and Caravan club site at Kingsbury Water Park and walked along the canal from site to the Dog and Doublet. We were not disappointed by the reception on arrival where we were found a table for four. We had starters and main meals from the Chinese menu. The food was excellent quality with generous portions. We really enjoyed our experience and highly recommend.

Went for a meal with a friend. We both had steak and ale pie, it was delicious, lovely tender steak.

We stayed here overnight in our motorhome as it was conveniently located to visit the NEC the following day. The staff were really welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Fortunately, Monday is one of the WOK menu nights and the food was truly superb. Will definitely visit when next in the area.

A dog friendly inn. We always book the same room (twin) but do put spare old sheets on the beds cos our girls don’t understand hotel rules. (Old sheets no good for home , small and easy to pack make good covers ) Always welcome in the pub , food is good but best is outside the front in the summer watching the boats go by , sat with my girls enjoying a pint. It’s our go to place for anything in staffs

Visited again had a great cider & cracking pint of Theakstons but what was really impressive was the food cooked by Malay chief Contrary to other reviews Not Chinese but food was individually prepared & brilliant. I understand there are now different foods on different nights,but I can't say enough about Peter's food 👍👍👍👍 Other service was excellent as well. Nice food ,but wanted a dry cider (rearly exist these days ) .

Nice location but £3.95 for 4 slices of garlic bread no different to what you can buy in Aldi. Rip off. Plus barmaid seemed more bothered in talking to her colleague than welcoming me to the pub as a first time customer. Hardly have me the time of day.

Had an awesome time. Staff are friendly. Entertainment was awesome. And there was the added bonus of being able to sit by the canal, or even go for a short walk .

I arrived on a quiet evening having walked from the campsite 15 mins away. They were about to close. I said that’s a shame as I was hoping to eat. The landlady spoke to the chef who agreed to stay and cook for me. I was made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Such wonderful hospitality. I even had a chat with the Malaysian chef about vegans and cooking tofu. I would highly recommend the pub for its food, hospitality and the fantastic canal side location.

Absolutely terrible! Had booked ahead as we were staying at a local campsite so had no knowledge of the pub beforehand. Table was reserved for us - sign and menus on the table but so was the remainder of the previous parties lunch!! No effort had been made to clean the table when the reserved notice was placed there. The menus were dirty and sticky and lots of dishes weren't available. The vegan dishes advertised on the website were nowhere to be seen. The barmaid was surly and unwelcoming. Needless to say we didn't stay!! Drove a mile further down the road to the Malt House - totally different experience - thank goodness!!

We were staying in the area when we dropped in to the Dog and Doublet thinking it offered both a Chinese and English menu. We three adults were open minded but the two children definitely hoped for something with chips ( as usual). We then learned that it’s either Chinese or traditional English so chips were off the menu tonight ( Tuesday). The Chinese menu was really great though and once we learned the chef was Malaysian who cooked authentic food we were very enthusiastic , spoilt for choice and we weren’t disappointed . The chef special One Pot Malaysian Lamb curry was amazing and the chicken satay superb. The two children wolfed down their plain noodles with chicken . The food was a surprise and a real treat and the children still got their ice cream to finish too. Don’t be put off by the car park at the rear, just walk round to the front and enjoy delightful canal side tables and views. Would definitely recommend.

Stayed one night. Warm welcome. Clean room, comfy bed,, plump towels. Thought it might be noisy with pub next door but very little noise. Shower pressure not brilliant. Excellent value.

Wow!! What can I say, If I could give more stars I would! Michelle is brilliant!! We arrived in our motorhome (prearranged), but were told that last orders had been called (8.30pm), well, when we left at closing time!! Michelle and Katy were brilliant and were so aplogetic about the kitchen being closed. If the food tastes as good as it sounds on the menu, then this will be a regular port of call, not only for a weekend away but travels up North. Thank you Michelle, is was a pleasure to drink here x

Decided to try this pub out after hearing great things. Definitely didn't disappoint. Sitting next to the canal, we had some light snacks, chicken goujons and chunky chips. Portion size of chunky chips almost beat me! Staff really friendly. Very busy. Will definitely be returning.

TERRIBLE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. WE WANTED A ROSE' & MALBEC WINES... THEY HAD NEITHER. SO I ORDERED A FULL FAT COKE & GOT A DIET COKE - (WHICH I AM ALLERGIC TO) STUPIDLY, I ORDERED A STEAK BAGUETTE, BUT INSTEAD RECIEVED A ROLL WITH SHREDDED CHEWEY FLIP-FLOP, THAT WAS MOSTLY LONG STRANDS GRISTLE. I PAID £1 EXTRA FOR A SERVING OF CHEESE TO BE ADDED, BUT THAT WAS SPARSE TO SAY THE LEAST. MY WIFE ORDERED A TUNA PANINI, BUT INSTEAD GOT A SPARSELY FILLED TUNA BAGUETTE, BUT WAS CHARGED EXTRA FOR THE 1/2 EMPTY BAGUETTE. THE SIDE SALAD WAS AGED, SLIMEY & SEE THROUGH, AS PER BEING PART FROZEN, THE CHIPS WERE RUNNING IN GREASE & FAT WE WON'T BE GOING BACK - EVER

Terrible, room grubby, loads of cob webs, awful smell, mould in bathroom, hardly any toilet paper, lack of customer service.

Had a great lunch with friends. We stayed all evening in the 80s disco. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Atmosphere was wonderful and the disco music was the best. We stayed on the dance floor all evening. Fab day/night
