What a fantastic experience, the staff and Management were right out the top draw. Extremely polite, obviously well trained and professional in all aspects. The food was fantastic…can’t praise it (and them ) enough, would thoroughly recommend you pay a visit. The pub /restaurant has had a renovation that has preserved the old part beautifully while still giving a crisp modern feel to the restaurant. After visiting a neighbouring pub the night before with a less than favourable experience ( The Lifeboat) this was like chalk and cheese.

We visited the village as it was the birthplace of Lord Horatio Nelson. There's not much to see but the Lord Nelson makes up for that. Its a modern restaurant, tastefully decorated and has memorabilia from Nelson's times around. We were there for lunch and the food was delicious. I had a Cromer Crab burger and my husband had the beef burger. Both served in brioche bun with salad and fries. Excellent quality. We managed to find space for their home made icecream which was gorgeous. If we had been staying nearer we would have come back for Dinner.

We were excited to come here again after a truly exceptional lunch in August 2023, and ordered their bread and olive oil & balsamic vinegar starter to share because it had been fantastic the year before. We were very, very disappointed though. In place of the two types of crisp, lightly toasted slices of two kinds of freshly baked loaves, there were big cubes of some kind of stale, crumbly unsweetened sponge cake (maybe muffin?) with weird, pale purple sultanas in it. The pot of "olive oil and balsamic vinegar" was possibly worse than the dry cake-bread: the oil was totally colourless, clear and flavourless. We pointed it out to the manageress who went to investigate in the kitchen and returned with another pot of clear oil and vinegar, and told us the bottle said "olive oil" on it, so it was ok. Google has since clarified that they are using refined olive oil, which is cheap and completely unsuitable for any dish where the flavour and colour of the oil is supposed to be enjoyed. Our main courses, thankfully, we're OK. Not fantastic like last year, but edible. The revolting bread-stuff and refined oil, though, completely spoilt the meal

We came to Burnham Thorpe to find out what there was about Lord Nelson here, since the village is his birthplace. We found plenty, including this pub which has a wonderful little modern museum at the front, complete with maps and battle order for Trafalgar on the wall. We enjoyed our drinks and the Nelson-themed interior, especially the leather backs of some chairs which sported the flags giving the famous message, 'England Expects Every Man to do His Duty'. A nice touch. The staff were attentive and friendly, the toilets very clean and the drinks good - husband said the beer was well kept. There's a large garden at the back and side and they are very dog-friendly, with plenty of treats and water bowls. Just sorry we'd booked dinner elsewhere as the menu looked tempting.

This is our go-to pub when holidaying at Whitehall Farm just up the road. Cannot fault the service or staff. They couldn’t have been more accommodating during our numerous visits, whether it be for just drinks or when dined there (on more than one occasion). I was particularly impressed when we had pre booked Sunday lunch, a late sitting, and they ensured that those who had booked in advance were guaranteed a Sunday roast selection. They even let us bring the horses through the back gates in to the garden when we rode them down, and brought buckets of water out for them. I understand that Laurie has recently taken the manager role at this pub. Her care and awareness (not to mention her wit) of different customer needs extends to her great team. Well done and long may this continue.

We were shocked and disappointed by our recent visit to The Lord Nelson. This has been our special pub for a few years now, and last summer and we were made very welcome, as always, by the manager, I think her name was Jane or Jess. The staff were efficient, timely and friendly and the food was fabulous. Sadly that was not the case on our last visit. The service was slow and lacklustre, the food disappointing and that essential friendly hospitable atmosphere was gone, as was Jane/Jess. This is a very out-of-the-way pub and we have to travel along many very narrow pot-holed country lanes to get to it. Previously it was worth the risk of meeting a tractor on a blind bend, but not now it is no longer our special pub.

Service is lovely - really friendly - and atmosphere pleasant apart from a yapping dog. Loved our last visit but the food was almost all terrible apart from the pie. Child’s steak was served rare and bleeding all over the plate, chowder was lacking in actual seafood with bland sauce and abundance of under cooked potatoes (had this previously and was wonderful) and dairy free version of mussels that was expecting to be made with soya cream was made with soya milk rendering the liquid horrible and I asked for it to be taken away and drained off the bowl (had this previously and was wonderful). Gutted. Look forward to this meal all week and brought a friend who drove for an hour for the meal. Come for the lovely service but sadly I was shocked by the food this time. One meal taken off as was so bad but 2 adults and a child with a drink each came to £90.

I know some places say they are 'dog friendly' but at the Lord Nelson they really mean it! This is our favourite place in Norfolk for a Sunday lunch. As you go in there are dog bowls, water and biscuits for the dogs and they even have a menu with canine roast dinners on. All of the staff came and made a fuss of the dogs. The humans aren't neglected though, with good service and a very tasty roast

First time visiting, the place has been significantly extended and upgraded. Dining was very busy, which tells its own story for a restaurant in Feb. The atmosphere was great. Unfortunately it took over 60 minutes from ordering to our food being served. The waitress was very apologetic, she did explain there were unforeseen issues in the kitchen. The food when it came was good, tasty and we cleaned our plates. We also had our bill reduced because of the delay in us getting our food. So whilst I have given this an average rating, the waitress through her honest communication and the quality of the meals, when served mean I will definitely return to give the lord Nelson another try.

Lovely looking pub but caters more for diners. Very welcoming and lovely interior and the staff very friendly and attentive. However.. the food was not as the prices suggest, one dish was sent back as not cooked properly, the server couldn’t have been any more apologetic and returned with a warmer offering but the damage was done and reappeared a bit later 🫣 Also a bit of a bug bear but when taking orders for drinks please clear the old glasses.

It had been sometime since we last visited the famous pub, and we were pleased with the alterations in the decor, the problem was the food was not so good, I went for the Nelson burger, that came out as one burger when advertised as 2 4oz burgers, the grey sauce was over powering and the bacon inside was not cooked. After having a lovely lunch a few weeks ago I booked an evening table for my husbands birthday. Given it was a Friday night there were only 4 couples the whole evening. Soulless atmosphere and a lot of starters were not available “due to supply...

The renovations to the pub look great, the staff were friendly, welcoming and chatty. We ordered 1 course for a evening meal, the food took 45 minuts to arrive and when it did we were seriuosly underwhelmed. The fishcakes were lumpy with large chunks of...

Thoroughly enjoyed a platter of sea food with my daughter today. Friendly and welcoming service in the recently opened pub and restaurant. They have beautifully enlarged the original Lord Nelson and I would recommend a visit. We shall enjoy a returning with our family.

As we were staying in the village we were looking forward to having a pub on our doorstep. How disappointing it all was. We didn’t feel there was much atmosphere in the newly refurbished pub. Like many pubs it was all newly built to accommodate...

We went in one day for a nice meal, me and my fiancé orderd a milkshake, hers was cold and mine was warm. I orderd a panini, and when it arrived, the server dropped it on the table and instead of offering a new one they went "oops" and put it back on the plate. Also the salad is lettuce and tomatoes, thats it

Overall we had a lovely evening, everything was well laid out, clean and tidy with a great atmosphere. Food was fantastic. Only negative was when we arrived, table wasn't ready so was asked to get a drink and wait at the bar, unfortunately communication failed and we were forgot about until 1 member of staff said they thought we had already been seated.
