The Lord High Admiral in Plymouth

Was recommended by a friend for the Sunday lunch and it didn’t disappoint. A friendly warm welcome and service and a banging roast. Dog friendly and our dog lay down in front of the log burner after our meal while enjoying another glass of wine. Staff couldn’t do enough and hats off to the chefs

Lovely pub, nice atmosphere. Extremely expensive for drinks (but good selection of real ales). Would come back if it didn't hurt the wallet so much.

Came here for a few drinks after work. There is a good selection of beer/ale and ciders. The staff are really friendly and the place has a nice character. There is also a covered outdoor area. Will definitely come back here.

Staying close to here so as it was dog friendly we decided to eat as well as drink here. Great choice of ales, lagers and craft beers had me drooling. All 4 of us had the Ploughman’s and even though it was nice, there was not too much if it tbh. 2 small pieces of cheese, 3 small pieces of ham, one bread roll, a very salty egg, couple of onions and some strange tasting piccalilli.

Really great selection of drinks (including craft beer), amazing food especially roasts. Staff are really helpful and will help cater for food allergies and dietaries (I.e. vegan). Lovely vibe and one of the best pubs in Plymouth

Nice little pub, couple of friendly guys in charge. Beer slightly disappointed, the head disappeared very quickly after a fresh start. It could've been me though. Live music and background music both good.

I walked in without booking and was still welcomed to have a seat, the staff were very friendly and helpful, I wasn’t sure what to drink and the bar staff gave me a taster to try, I had the chicken roast it was truly incredible, will definitely be back for a Sunday roast

My Mom said "It's a great 😊 pub! Loved it! ❤️👍" I'm trying to get her to do a review. We went out early for Mother's Day to avoid crowds. It was a bit rowdy but she likes it lively as long as she can hear a conversation. Happy Mother's Day Mom. Thanks for putting up with me 💖 She had Camombere and I had the burger. And then I scoffed some of her Camombere that was left. No fork required. Perhaps a trough. It was good. I think she didn't really vibe with the menu but she's so polite. I forgot there was no table service as I don't usually eat during the week. And there were so many dogs with their wagging tails! All different shapes and sizes. I got stared at by a Frenchie for a while as I ate some Camombere. It was just before the quiz and the last patron of table 5 was reluctant to relinquish him and his dog's seat. That was the Frenchie man. I still feel bad about that. He even sought me out to tell me pointedly he'd vacated the seat at the last moment as I was ten minutes early. It just made me laugh. People are so amusing. That's the only thing. I think with people eating with their dogs during dinner, perhaps they shouldn't be at the table. I think most of the dogs visiting are hypoallergenic. Just in terms of people's allergies and being mindful. I felt like at one point it was that dogs playing poker painting 🎨 Anyhoo. Thanks for having us the food was great every bite of that burger. Cleaned the plate plus fries gone. Mom wants to come back, and I've said she'd be welcome 😊 I found a space for the ornament she got me for International Women's Day. Normally pretty good but on the Monday, guy behind the bar was having a self admitted "stressful time" which resulted into rudeness.

Nice place, way better than I first thought it would be. A little limited on pilsners but thats just my choice. Didn't eat so couldn't comment. Kinda hipster ish inside.

Pity the chicken was dry and roasties overdone but given that it was a BIG group understandable. Generally one of the best places for a Sunday roast, friendly and EXCELLENT value

Brilliant quiz night and lovely food.

Every time I come in, no one is behind the bar, but the bar staff seem to be sitting, talking to their friends, finished up their convo and came to serve me. When ordered, they started to pour the wrong drink and when corrected they made out like it was my fault? Nice pub but the staff let it down in my opinion.

One of my fave pubs in Plymouth. Staff are lovely. Food is excellent and not fussy. Great selection of beer and cocktails. Space and atmosphere is the perfect old pub vibe.

Cracking pub that does good beer and good food cooked and served by some cracking staff. Very welcoming and friendly from the first visit which made me sure to pop in there after on passing. It’s tucked out the way a bit off the main road. Decent beer garden area too. Pet friendly for those interested. Couple of good barmen in there with good craic, talk away and remember what you had previously on the next visit. It’s the small things! Not all pubs have them any more. Was in a pub last night and the barmaid didn’t even realise 3 people waiting to be served then proceeded to serve someone else followed by her friends after a good blether, much to the amusement of the guy beside me who couldn’t wait to tell her! Not like the bar staff here or in general the bar staff of days gone by where they notice who’s next despite the bar being mobbed with rows of people 3,4 & 5 deep!

This pub has lots of warm atmosphere where you can sit and chat over a drink or eat a tasty meal. The burger is succulent, fish and chips are cooked to a turn. It's a good idea to book ahead. Always a variety on the menu including vegan options. After dinner we sometimes settle in with one of the supplied boardgames. A cosy city pub.

Booked this place online for the 02.01.2024. Received all the text updates regarding my booking - Including a reminder of my booking half an hour before I was due to attend. Cant comment on the food or atmosphere as the venue was closed on arrival. No contact or reason as to why. Will not be returning - Terrible service - Checked website / Google / Emails - Nothing stating the venue was closed.

Amazing pub, so friendly and welcoming the minute you walk through the door. Wide variety of drinks available. Would highly recommend The Full Head Ale. Big bonus is that dogs are allowed. They even have a glass jar on the counter with dog biscuits in.

The lord high admiral is always near the top of my list when thinking of where to go for a Sunday roast! Have been a few times now and not been disappointed. My only gripe is the additional expense for cauliflower cheese! The vegetarian roast option is interesting and tasty. The portions are huge and good value. The pub itself is cosy and the staff are really friendly. Convenient free parking outside. Will no doubt be back soon.

We had a wonderful time at our Christmas do at the LHA yesterday. The pub itself is beautiful with lots of character, the staff were incredibly attentive and caring, and the food (it was stew night so we all had meat or veggie stew) was delicious. Would highly recommend. Thank you for making our evening so enjoyable.

We popped in after eating over the road (sorry guys) but pleasantly surprised. What was lovely to see was all ages were their next time well try your food.

Staff always go out of their way to accommodate. Sunday roast is great, but best to reserve a table. Can get a bit crammed. Lovely seats outside.

Etwas abseits vom eigentlichen Stadtzentrum, nahe dem King William Dockyard und den Gebäuden der Admiralität, liegt das einzelstehende Pub "The Lord High Admiral" (Lord Großadmiral). Ein uriger, gemütlicher und gleichzeitig moderner Pub, sauber und einladend, offenbar erts vor kurzem neu ausgestattet, mit einer guten Auswahl an Ales, Bieren, Cider und Longdrinks, gutem Essen und freundlichem Service. Bei warmen Wetter ist der Außenbereich richtig voll mit offensichtlich lokalen Gästen, denn Touristen verirrt es hierher kaum. Eine tolle Entdeckung und sehr zu empfehlen!

Fantastic little venue, been in a few times whilst working away, simple menu, very good, live music and quize nites, can't fault this little gem.

We love this place! Very friendly staff adds to the relaxed atmosphere. Sunday roast was superb! Definitely book for the roast though...its that good. Nice selection of beers too.

Always enjoy the LHA, a great pub and great selection of gins and beers! We didn't eat on this occasion but the food is always good too 😋

Tasty food and lovely inside! Well worth a visit before catching the ferry.

Food was good and served quickly. It was burger night and although I probably would have chosen something else, the LHA burger was meaty and filling. My friend had the vegan option and we both cleared our plates. Not keen on the plastic serving basket, a plate or board would have been much better.

Friendly pub with lovely outside garden. Menu very limited, basically just burgers and pizza. I recommend the calamari starter, good to share. Matt's bar service was excellent and very friendly

A bit more of a upper class pub with fancier options than a traditional basic pub. Pretty general small on the menu for dinner there wasn’t too much variation but that was probably because of staff shortages. Burgers and sides and that was about it. Korean burger was wonderfull! Cool little nic nacs around the walls, quite smartly decorated. An easy dinner option

Friday night: Great pub, great staff, great food, great drink. Staff were talkative, welcoming, friendly. Wasn’t so busy to begin with but filled up as the night drew on. I was personally surprised it wasn’t packed as it is nice inside, the staff were easy to talk to (I had good craic with Ross and Matt) and the smash burger and beef brisket were excellent. Not sure if it’s just located/tucked away too much (basically up a side street somewhere between Lidl and Aldi) but surely locals know it’s whereabouts and it’s worth. Has a beer garden as well. Doesn’t have the views of pubs or bars in the Barbican but the pints and food will be just as good - if not better! Do yourself a favour and check it out. Dog friendly too. I’ll definitely be back for another pint of the Artic Sky Cold IPA

One of the best roasts I've had outside of home and better than anything I could make! The ingredients were clearly fresh and local. The potatoes make a roast and these were fantastic! Cooked fresh, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The spiced red cabbage was so tasty. And to finish it off every roast has a Yorkshire pudding on top. The meat was really good too although not as good as some other ingredients. The gravy is served to the table and there's plenty for everyone! Great atmosphere and good place to chill out with a drink

One of the best pubs in Plymouth, I come here all the time. Really great food, cosy fire, nice atmosphere and lovely beer garden. Went to the bluegrass and curry night last night, great curry and beer. Often have casual live music. The staff are all wonderful.

A great place to visit. The food is excellent and staff and service is excellent. A quirky " homely" pub with really nice beer garden. Gives the feeling of a country pub , but in the city or very close to it. 10 of us went there for a family birthday party and we were not disappointed. Definitely recommended and will be back.

Food was amazing. Saw great reviews on trip advisor but it seems quite a trek from town initially. Well worth it though especially for the nachos. Only minor point would be burger seems a bit small especially as chips were extra. Nacho portion was wonderful though. Half wonder if we got a kids one though as my son ordered. Not meant in a disrespectful way at all but possibly our error.

Quality pub with lovely staff and cracking live music. Sadly I visited with my tramp of an ex who cheated on me a few days after but the visit to the admiral was a rare highlight of our relationship.

Excellent roast, up to my wife's standard. Excellent beef, gorgeous bread and butter pudding, warm welcome and prompt, efficient service. Thoroughly recommended.

Great food and atmosphere. Especially great for veggies and vegans. Nachos were so tasty I was tempted to order another portion. Defo recommend.

Absolutely amazing vibe, good selection of drinks. Winter they have a cozy fireplace, the garden is beautiful in the summer also! Great little sun trap in the evening. Their food and drinks can be a little on the pricer side unfortunately, however they have vegan options which is awesome! The quiz they do every fortnight on a Sunday is great fun, £2 an entry and great selection of questions for all levels of expertise.

Came here for the roast on Sunday and it was generously portioned and of excellent quality. Staff were friendly and attentive and the menu was ambitious. There was a fair wait time before the food came but the staff were apologetic and it was very busy so it was to be reasonably expected. It was worth it in the end anyway. Will be returning for sure.

Hav had a bad experience at this pub, dirty utensils .glasses and crockery. Staff walking around on drugs and just a very hypocritical experience. One I will never have again. Swerve this like the plgaue.

Cozy real pub. Seating outside in a courtyard or inside, it's a small pub with a great atmosphere, plenty of alcohol choice and food menu.

Sunday roast and ale top quality

Does anyone likes loud music actually in this pub? There's not corner to enjoy being quieted and free from tv radiation with silly sport channels, when the bartender goes out to smoke I can also breath the smoke.

Friendly staff and very good value food. Nice vegan curry on a Tuesday night.

Went for a Mother’s Day Sunday lunch. The best roast beef I’ve had in a long time. The vegetarians enjoyed their roasts. Fella behind the bar was funny, lovely and welcoming. Waitresses also very friendly and helpful. Definitely would return

what a lovely place. warm welcome and a gorgeous veggie sunday roast. felt covid secure and there was even a little dog in there.

Korean chicken burger was wonderful. Also the coleslaw salad was so delicious that I can't forget!
