Jake's in Plymouth

It's a cafe in the rundown portal please in the West end and it is very good I will go there again

Looked decent from outside with covered seating and clean windows so decided to go in for a breakfast at 9.45 am on a Saturday. A decent range of food available for a general Cafe and good choice of breakfast at reasonable prices. Food was ordered and a seat was taken with the cup of tea commig to the table around 5 minutes later. Restaurant was fairly busy with 3 staff behind the counter cooking and 2 staff doing the drinks and serving the food to the tables. I was served by a lady with an Irish accent who was around 22 years old and very pleasant and helpful. Food arrived in about 15 minutes from time of order and was very tasty and a decent portion size. Once finished the table was cleard pretty quickly and I ordered another cup of tea, unfortunately they forgot to bring this to the table so had to do a reminder to the lady serving who apologised and made one straight away. Drank the tea and left. Looking back and saw the staff clearing the table and wipe down ready for next customers. Restraint was half full downstairs so reasonably busy. This Restaurant has signs saying more seething upstairs but I didn't venture there. Also saw just eats drivers collected food whilst I was in the restaurant. All in all a good experience and I would definitely go back again

This place has slowly gone down hill recently. I used to use it most weeks at least once but after todays visit I will not be returning. Firstly the tables are filthy with lots of sticky marks, not just the one i used but by the looks of it all the ones I could see on the way out. This sticky mess looks like it has been in place for weeks and not just today. The table menus are laminated, presumably so they can be wiped clean, again covered in greasy marks and likley contain more calories the the undercooked and over cooked ingredients served on plates. I had an all day breakfast, egg far from freshly cooked with congeeled yolk. Toast smothered in the cheapest looking spread possible. rest of breakfast barely luke warm. Cutlery is left in a tray and customers help themselves so you take the risk of catching all sorts due to it being touched by other customers while they collect their knives and forks The whole place looks down at heel even for the West End of Plymouth. Jakes used to serve good value tasty food but if today is anything to go by, I would go elswhere.

Overcooked bacon terrible sausages delivered still instead of sparkling water etc.

Great little greasy spoon. We were able to walk in and get a table on Sunday morning without waiting. Food came out very quickly and was very tasty. I had a 1/2lb burger with cheese and chips, and my partner had a "monster" breakfast (which was to much for her).

I came to Jake’s In The City for breakfast when I fancied a classic full English and it really didn’t disappoint. This is your staple English breakfast café. No overcompensating, just tasty, hearty food. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. The café was busy but service was still very quick. Will return soon.

My go to place for breakfast and lunch for last few years. Always above 5 star for food and services. I am not traditional restauranter, when go to restaurant I am fussy and want lots of modifications even if such options is not on the menu. Staffs are friendly and smiley, they are happy to modify my menu to meet my requirements. Extremely happy and highly recommend.

Asked for no ham in baguette as I’m vegetarian there’s was loads, curly fries wasn’t cooked and was cold

My order was wrong ordered hangover but only half of it turned up now potatoes or fried bread no hogs pudding! However what I did have I think was a monster instead which was actually very nice. Just disappointed not to get what I ordered

My review as of 05,2023 completely different from my last one . ordered exactly the same as we normally do £18.00 pound for two breakfasts and coffee.... last time purchase for exactly the same £12.80.. now I understand price increases but the quality and quantity was not there...staff were not as professional as the old team... my order was incorrect it was corrected immediately but I'm not sure how they did this... last visit before this one must have been just before the change over . I can assure jakes I will not be returning

This time round, I'm going to show my empty plate and not describe how satisfied I am with my order.... So, right now all I will say is this in a few simple words and show you the result of my satisfaction by way of a photo. Breif description of my order. The Monster Fryup Fryup. Wow. Quality. Excellent. VFM. Definitely. Would I go again.??. I'D HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THAT.. I've thought about it, and yes.. Definitely.

Been a few times and had all day breakfast. Freshly cooked and large portions. Served up by friendly staff.

Big portions, inexpensive prices, great food and service.

Ask for a mega breaky after standing at the counter for nearly ten mins while all the staff just looked on, then gets the most expensive breakfast at 12 quid yet half what you get on a breaky you have to pay extra for? I don't like some items eggs, totmotas, mushrooms so ask for them to come off but swap it for something else to be told there is a charge for this! JUST WOW!! desided to go the cafe next door seams to be more freindler and what nt charge you all kinds for what you would normally get on the breaky, safe to say I shall be swerving this place from now on

Zero stars, burnt toast, and you sent mushrooms when I asked you not too. Definitely not as good as it use to be

Best greasy fry up in Plymouth. Sometimes I want sourdough a really good quality sausage or maybe some avocardo toast or eggs benadict home made bean. But this is not the place for that pretentiousness. If you're hanging out of your arse, or you just want a really decent cheap fry up then you have found your nivarna, just perfect everything I want from a fry up, cheep ingredients cooked well at a good price and loads of it.

Wow, wow, wow. I got in a taxi at Plymouth Station over a month ago and asked for a breakfast recommendation, about 3 mins later I ended up at Jakes cafe. I was greeted by the staff and the chef. They were so friendly and I ordered a cheese and ham toasties. Once again wow, wow wow. The food is the dogs undercarriage. I play guitar and was impressed with the music memorabilia and decor. Thanks to that cabbie, I met, eat and walked away feeling very satisfied. What a cafe...... JOSH THE GUITARIST...

The staff are super attentive. Sat outside. Lovely food , large selection. Good price too. Try it you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely shocking food ...where do I start .. stone cold and only 2 minutes away from the shop ... suppose to have been with extra onions....dread to think what a normal one would of been... very disappointed...will never recommend you!!

Friendly and cheerful service, salad was fresh and crispy, the jacket was a really good size with plenty of topping.

Rather disappointed. Used to go to Jake's and the food was really good. Prawn panini and chips, omelette and chips.....prawns have gone off the menu now 😔 the chips were very undercooked. The fish was tiny. My partner had a large English breakfast which he enjoyed though but also said the sauteed potatoes were under cooked too. Upstairs was freezing so came back down as was a fraction warmer but still chilly inside.

Amazing food can't always eat everything as a portions are really really good and you get what you pay for. Always go there for breakfast and I have a monster breakfast and it is a lush. The staff are absolutely amazing. They will always take time to talk to you and to help you whenever they can

If you want a reasonable price all day breakfast this is the place to go. Enjoy.

Certainly changed, noisy and slow

I'm sorry, have to give a one star unfortunately. After many top 5star reviews left over the years it is a bit wierd leaving one star. 4 weeks in a row my order has been cancelled. You hit any morning between 9-11 and its "too busy" Come off it, you guys have been in Plymouth for decades now and you still don't want to have the extra business? I'm sorry but I'm done with jakes now. The epitome of the whole specter. Lockdown shown you how to do hardly any work out of choice, so is this the "new norm" now? 😆

Have to say I've always used Jakes. After today I won't be back. Ordered 2 breakfasts which had black pudding and potatoes added. We ended up being charged £17.35. After waiting over 30 minutes and watching the staff panic and at no time wash their hands After touching the bin, rinsing dirty dishes and clearing tables. We finally got our food which was all wrong and a extra breakfast which we said we didn't order. I said we obviously been charged for this and the lad said no and didn't give me a refund. Alot of customers around us complaining about the wait. All the staff looked dirty and at no time hygienic when we were sat waiting for our meal. Disappointed Jakes has always been outstanding food and service.

I ordered a monster breakfast on the menu and my wife ordered all day breakfast from menu food was quick and very well cooked I very much enjoyed and would highly recommend, staff friendly and polite 5 stars from me, when I go to Plymouth again that's where I will be having my breakfast

I urge the owner to have a good look at the people who work for him...dirty looking ,unshaven, dirty fingernails and shoes that are grease incrusted...clothes that look like were used by the local mechanic previously....they are collectively letting your business down....oh and the whole place looks like it could do with a thorough clean

Most disappointed today, a wait which is fair enough , tho place not full at 10 45 am, but the music was so loud everyone had to shout, and the food was the poorest I've ever been served. Burnt toast all round the edges one was a crust, cheese was sparce and poached eggs so hard in the middle they may as well have been hard boiled. Never had such a meal, my companions sausages were hard due to overcooking and his fried egg was "snotty" Sorry to say won't be back. Pity have been a customer from the start. The girl at the till was pulling her hair and serving without a hand wash, before serving

Went early morning for breakfast food was good. However table could have done with a wipe over beans on table from previous customer and the table was sticky.

Meeting up with relatives, left alone to talk. Nice friendly staff.

Just caught them before closing time, and I was really impressed. The food was freshly cooked with care, as well as extra options being made available to me and my friend. As we ate the friendly staff closed up and cleaned down, it was kind that they didn't rush us.

The food is delicious and I have never had a problem even though today there was a mix up with some food I ordered which was my fault really, as I did not explain exactly what I wanted, I did notice they resolved it in a very professional way and I thought it was worth mentioning in a review.
