The Lookout Cafe in Weymouth and Portland

The staff were absolutely amazing! Despite being understaffed on the day of our visit, they went above and beyond to help me and my father. We have been back since and will continue to go back due to the amazing food and service we received. The bubble and squeak is our favourite :-)! During good weather, the view is also amazing!! Would and do definitely recommend.

Beautiful views and lovely breakfast for myself, my husband and my son. The 2 ladies that brought our breakfast to the table were a delight and had lovely smiles. To the little blonde girl serving on the counter, I hope your day got better, your attitude over a jar of sugar was appalling and rude to snatch it from the table. I’m not sure if morning service is for you and for this we won’t be returning. We hope the jar of sugar sweetens your day.

Amazing good quality food, excellent service, beautiful views and great value. If you are in this area then you need to visit the Lookout Cafe (they do lovely cakes too).

Ordered a cake and smoothie, smoothie was average and cake was so hard and stale, shouldn’t have bothered and will not do so again.

I have been visiting this spot for years but haven’t been for a couple of years during which there has been a change of ownership and presumably chef… Positives: same fabulous views, really worth a visit just for this. Lots of seating indoor and out. Accessibility good as long as you find a nearby parking spot on the road or can walk up the hill from bowleaze parking which is reasonable. Dog friendly outside, front of house staff young girls trying their best to cope with volume of visitors admirably ( busy but nowhere near as busy as would have been in the past given brunch / lunch time bang in middle of holidays. Negatives: Not terribly busy but told there is a 45 min wait for food only when about to order. Fine in our case & food arrived in half the time. Food was one full English and one scrambled eggs on toast. Eggs were stone cold, both plates as were the mushrooms and beans so taken back to chef who proceeded to put her hand on the food and stress to the waitress the food was ok. As the time had turned to lunch menu straight after I had ordered and the chef had said she would remake our order I offered to reorder from the lunch menu. I was told no the food would be redone. I had barely sat down and put it came, Luke warm and had half heartedly nuked. No butter available and none on toast. Beans watery and cold. Mushrooms and eggs inedible as cold. Deep fried standard frozen hash browns. Bacon fatty and chewy as had been microwaved. Sausage was okay. Next time I visit this beautiful spot I will bring a picnic sadly.

Have been here a few times and the food and customer service has always great. I went for coffee on Friday with friends, my coffee was Luke warm. I asked the girl serving if it could be heated in the microwave, I was told very frostily that if I had “ asked for extra hot in the first place, I could have warmed the cup first” I explained it was the liquid that needed heating up, not the cup. She stomped off to the back to do this. It was then perfect to drink. On ordering our second round of drinks, my friend ordered a hot chocolate, this wasn’t very hot either. I took it inside to ask that it was reheated. The same girls, glared at me and then said “ hmmm, I’ll have to remake it then” I said she could quite easily put it in the microwave to heat it up. She left me standing there for a good few minutes serving other customers before tending to this.It was then reheated, but left for too long and it boiled over (so I could hear from the kitchen) I had a feeling it was then poured from the microwave plate back into the container )The girl had a face like thunder as she gave me the hot chocolate) .This was evident as when my friend opened the disposable cup, it was less than half full. My friend went back into the cafe and asked for another. Another young girl remade it, and also gave us another as a good will gesture, with an apology. We certainly won’t be retuning here again. Good customer service goes a long way and is just as important as a good tasting menu.

Overpriced food for the quality of the food, staff walk off when you ask them a question, they are just rude! coffee is bitter, will never return and do not recommend

Egg royal real good service welcoming nothing is to much trouble well done Artived for a farthers day breakfast. The wife had pancakes and summer fruits as very good were the words used. With 8 people sitting down all plates cleared and all enjoyed the experiance. Good food good views and good staff well done keep it up will be back.

Visited the lookout for the first time in about 12 months. The place feels a little smarter than before, I like the addition of blinds inside. the Double Bubble and Squeek was tasty with the eggs cooked to a lovely runny consistency. Mac n cheese chips, were loaded with lots of topping. Overall a good lunch and good value for money. We won’t leave it as long to visit again

We went for breakfast. We always make a point of visiting when we are down this way. Today we tried pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Unfortunately, these were barely warm when they turned up. We were sat outside as we have 2 dogs. Apart from that, they were very tasty and lovely bacon. It’s a great place to enjoy looking out over Weymouth harbour and over to Portland. We love this place , so we will be back.

We meet up twice a month and chose the lookout today, clean, tidy, great service, great value, amazing food, awesome views. Will defo be back.

Visited on New Year’s Day - really busy, but found a table. Could see staff working really hard to get through the orders, so simply ordered scones and coffee. Scones were in a jar on the counter, but took 10-15 minutes to be served as they microwaved them first so they were in the food queue. Would have been nice to have coffee and scones together. Scones average, a bit soggy for being microwaved. Another time (not just halter Christmas) I’d have tried the velvet cake which looked nice. The view was good, but food was average.

We had breakfast here this morning. Really great location and view, albeit a little out of the way, but definitely worth the extra effort to find it. Don't be fooled by the normal cafe decor, the food is excellent. We were there fairly early which proved a good move as by the time we left there were a lot of people arriving. We had full breakfasts and pancakes and everything arrived quickly and was well cooked and really excellent. The service was also excellent, very friendly. Thoroughly recommend this place for breakfast.

Friendly service with good menu and great cakes. Not forgetting the views over Weymouth bay. Will be visiting again soon.

Just spent £55 three kids meals two adults meals asked for a extra tea bag due I like strong tea to be told that’s a £1 extra For one tea bag I know it’s cost but …. I know it’s cost living make note 🗒️ to my being my own. One way not to keep regular customers Foods ok little over price for it

Perfect place to stop and enjoy the views a great choice of food freshly prepared and cooked, always a warm welcome and specials board, seating inside and out, dog permitted in the outside awning due to space inside. A great place to meet family and friends or to sit and watch the world go by

Great lunch tasting lunch, had BLT sandwich which tasted really really good. Shame no tuna option on any of the sandwiches.My 2 friends absolutely loved their Victoria sponge slices however I personally would have preferred fresh cream in it as oppose to a synthetic cream as I wasn't keen on the taste. Very busy cafe over looking sea.we odered 2 breakfasts which were the best we had ever had well done to the chef from me as i am a chef myself .very clean cafe andefficiant staff..no one looked stressed considering how busy they were .will defo visit again next time we are there .maybe try something different next time.

Lovely location on hill with fab views. Cakes looked lovely and good choice. My only issue was that I was inside at counter with dog and getting strange looks from staff before seeing the sign saying dogs are only allowed on terrace or outside. So.... if you are alone with a dog how do you get to order? If you are going to be dog friendly then you have to allow people with dogs to be able to get inside to the counter. Dogs are not always able to always be with two or more people, one to wait outside and a second to go and order. My boys dog father died and he is stuck with just me now. We struggle to find places that are fully dog friendly. So... if just people or more than one person with a dog then this is a great little spot and well worth the short walk from the main beach at Bowleaze Cove.

We went for a breakfast which was over priced and average after a very long queue. Saw 2 beautiful slices of what looked like a homemade victoria sponge cake in a display cabinet so I ordered both slices to take away and was told we will bring it all over so go and sit down. Had my breakfast and had to remind them to bring out my cake then I made the stupid mistake of not opening the boxes. Travelled home and later opened the boxes to eat the cake to then be bitterly disappointed by 2 soggy slices of a shop bought tasteless cheap bit of sponge that bore absolutely no resemblance to what I chose from that cabinet and paid £7.90 for. I was fuming and will not go back again.

Another lovely visit to the lookout, slightly reduced menu today due to being under staffed, but the chap behind the counter and the other girls working were smashing it with a smile. Such a hot day to be working inside too! Gert lush fry up set me and my friends up for the day at the beach. Thank you!

Before visiting Weymouth I search for cafes that serve gluten free bread for breakfast. The café replied and said they do provide GF. The reviews said the café is 20mins walk from Weymouth. It is miles from the Kings Statue!!! I only came across it as we took a walk into Bowleaze and I was thirsty. The café looked lovely but is in the middle of nowhere.

Not one to usually write reviews, but left very disappointed by the customer service I received. As a frequent visitor of the lookout I often bring my laptop to work and order breakfast/lunch and several coffees spending between £25/£30. The young staff are great and very polite, despite being run off their feet. However the manager is very rude. Despite spending over £15 on breakfast & coffee (overpriced) I was questioned by the manager…. “I’ve seen you sat here for ages, are you actually going to buy anything”. I would understand if I was preventing others from sitting down, however there were many tables free. I would also understand if they thought I was using their Wi-Fi for free but they don’t even have one available. I was also about to order another coffee and soft drink but the manager made me feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable. I immediately left to buy coffee elsewhere. Better off taking your hard earned cash to café Oasis for superior customer service!

We are regulars here but were a little early so opted for brunch. Had the double portion of bubble and squeak with bacon and eggs, cooked and seasoned to perfection. Delicious coffee and selection of some of the best cakes. Elevated view of Weymouth's bay while you dine is superb.

Been reading about this Cafe for many years and finally visited! We were not disappointed, we chose to walk the hill (carpark adjacent, however may get busy) and sat outside for a lovely spread of coffee,tea, and cakes. The staff were friendly and attentive, The view, was deffo to be had.

I only had a cup of tea and toast with my dog outside so can’t comment much on the food. But you won’t get a better setting or view than here! Ideal place to let the dog run loose and have a nice hot drink.
