Some of the best fish and chips I've had. We shared a large cod and a single portion of chips. What arrived was a thing of beauty, perfectly flaky cod in a beautiful batter just thick enough to say I'm not tempura. Excellent chips with a side of gravy topped it off. They are also not kidding around, when they say large cod they mean large cod.

We look 4ward to having our fish n chips on arrival but unfortunately didn't hit our spot chips were not cooked properly fish way to much batter So very different from the last time we visited

Food over cooked, tasted of old oil, average at best. Mushy peas excellent however. Had to ask waitress to clear our table of previous peoples food. Didn't offer to clean it either. Restaurant chaotic with no one really knowing how it worked. Better experience can be found in most of the surrounding pubs.

Went to Bennett’s for take away on bank holiday weekend before the fireworks, I have been a regular visitors to Bennett’s since 2002 when on holiday in Weymouth. We have it at least twice when here and have always spoken of the quality products and standards. It pains me to write but Monday was a totally different experience. I waited in line for at least an hour which was not the issue as previously it would have been worth the wait! After being served we had to further wait for the order to be cooked, not a problem either. The issues started after being served by a young teenage girl who became agitated after being asked for something not already cooked in the window. I told her no problem in waiting. I was given my receipt and sent outside to the window where online orders were being done. The woman serving at the window with tattoos was rude and sarcastic to people collecting their orders, thankfully I wasn’t served by her. After approximately 45 minutes my order came to the window. I collected and checked where one of the fish was of smaller size compared to the other large fishes of the same species I had purchased along with this one, which I may add had a burnt sausage in the box too, when I returned and challenged the staff in charge I was told they are all the same when they clearly wasn’t! I was told if he was going to sort the issue I’d have to wait a further 30 minutes. I declined as the other food would have spoiled, Oh they took the burnt sausage out of the fish box, thank goodness I can eat pork and didn’t affect me eating the food! Totally disappointed, will never go back. I recommend Alfs instead. Bennett’s is over hyped and over priced cooked by teenagers, same as Mc Donald’s.

The best fish and (absolutely fantastic) chips we've had in a long time! Place was super busy (understandably) but staff were fantastically organised and we were served in no time! Will definitely be visiting again! Thank you!

This place is always busy but is a great place in Weymouth to get Fish and Chips, they have a wide variety of options and the quality of the food is excellent!

Long queue of 1h to find out that restaurant orders are taken separately inside. None from staff could simply go out to let customers know about it and avoid long queue. Cod and chips were bland and tasteless. They overuse oil. Only medium cods available. You had to wait 20 minutes to get haddock. I truly do not know why this place is so popular if taste is not great and service is simply ok. Would recommend avoiding it and finding another option that is less touristic and focuses more on quality and customer satisfaction.

Been going here for a good years now but never again. Visited last night when it was pouring with rain outside. There was no sign up saying the restaurant section was closed, none of the staff at the point of ordering made us aware the restaurant was closed and there were other people eating inside. We received our order, found a table and then started to eat our food. At that point some very rude member of staff informed us the restaurant section was closed and told us to leave. I asked where was the sign informing us of this and she said the staff informed of us this when entering - they 100% did not! Other customers who had been there before us were still eating inside and I asked why aren’t they being asking to leave as well which then caused friction especially given the other customers were clearly very drunk. I proceeded to leave the premises with my wife into the pouring rain outside and told the very rude lady we wouldn’t be coming here again and she simply shrugged her shoulders and said well that’s up to you! Incredibly rude! I like to support local businesses but if that’s your attitude towards a regular customer then I won’t be returning again. I wish you well.

Chips were overcooked in burnt oil. Fish was cod, but was simple. Batter didn’t help. Eastbourne still the best I’ve tried. Long outdoor queue, no one advices that restaurant orders are taken inside and can seat to eat.

went to this place for a dinner on a busy sunday night. my partner had the haddock and i had the cod. the cod was cold, over fried and dry, which is really disappointing given i have spent £15 on it. the haddock was okay. i also had to go get cutlery on my own from the kitchen. overall, really disappointing experience and would expect much better given the prices and the reviews

The best fish and chips in Weymouth, perfectly cooked fish, crispiest batter ever tasted. You can eat in or takeaway but be prepared to queue whichever option you take. The wait is worth it. Others don't even come close.

This fish and chip shop is obviously situated in a great location with queues out the door . Visited yesterday evening waited approximately 35 minutes to get to the front of the queue. Teenagers behind the counter rude - none of them look like they know what they are doing - looks dangerous with all of them literally on top of each other behind vthe counter- difficult to move around in the shop as they have dining inside that you have to walk past to get to table to put salt and vinegar on your chips - have to reopen all the boxes . No napkins despite asking if there were going to be before fighting my way through the restaurant . Didn’t get the large chips that I ordered - unable to get back in to the front of the queue to ask for this portion. £45 for large fish . Med meal box and mini box . Price of condiments well over the top . 3.85 for the smallest bottle of ketchup and really expensive vinegar too - Cans of soft drink also very overpriced. Later saw the lad who had served me ( with a chip on his shoulder) outside leaning on a motorbike ( think it was his) that was taking up 2 parking bays smoking a fag . The teenagers look like the are not managed by anybody. Child labour . The large fish was lovely well cooked the mini was hard and chewy - the service poor and lack of ordered chips made whole thing very disappointing. ( the chips that we did get were nice) It was a Monday night . Not even a weekend so I’m sure it’s much worse when it’s busier. What a shame . Staff need to either be treated better with better working conditions so they drop their attitude and someone needs to come up with a better system/design /layout .

This place has been my go to fish and chip shop for many years now that I have been coming down to Weymouth and have recommended it to many people. However, today I came in at 17:00 I got scampi and chips which the scampi is normally always cook to order. But today it was not and was not fresh. And it was dry on the inside, soggy on the outside and really rubbery. I'm always happy to wait 5 or 10 minutes for it to be cooked freshly. The chips were also rsther undercooked and soggy to add. I hope today was just a bad one off and not a permanent drop in their usual high standards. Cook scampi to order so its crispy and juicy!

Difficult review as the quality of the food was fantastic, But ultimately let down by a criminal portion size. If the portions were slightly larger I'd say the higher prices would be justified and itd be a hands down 5 star review. Could possibly put it down to the server on the day and I usually go into it expecting it to be on the small side in high tourist areas but for just under 4 quid a handful of chips as a medium is a joke

Tried to charge me and my daughter £10 for the privilege of eating in. Calm down Bennets. I know you've got a good reputation but you're still just a chippy.

Visited here a few times over the years, there’s always a queue and food is ok but some of the staff are rude, eye rolling at customers and whispering to each other. Seems that good customer service doesn’t matter to them which is a shame.

You do get a really good meal from here and, it was quite pricey. The staff were not that nice and I was glad to take the fish and chips home. It was a very busy evening and, the tables where packed full of people. You can eat out-side tho but, be mindful of the Sea Gulls helping themselves to your food.

That's was my worse experience ordering fish since I moved to Weymouth 2 years ago. I've ordered 2 large cods and fries with it worh delivery. What I've got was 1 cod and 1 haddock with fries. You should just call me that you don't have enough cod for my order, that's just not right. The quality was awful. The breading on the cod was bitter that means you don't change the oil....my partner was sick after the food as he ate more than me. I couldn't even eat fries. They were like cooked in the water. Wet soggy undercooked and without any taste. I understand that a quality during the season is most of the time like 20% worse than unusual but that was not edible.

Been coming to this chip shop since they opened in 1989. Always good food crispy batter really nice chips cooked well. Service is always exceptional. Will continue to visit when I'm in weymouth. Keep up the good work.

Awesome food and in a great location

Very hit and miss place. Have had fantastic meals here and also been ill many a time. My last meal weeks ago the fish was good but where on earth were the chips ? (We ate in) Prior week before this great, this weekend I’m reviewing pfffffff Made it even worse with the brand of ketchup lmao Gone from Heinz to bargain basement. When you charge silly prices proper sauce is a must . Zero lemon, zero tartar sauce in a scallop……. Lazy

The place was packed out. A queue down the street for takeaway..There was room to sit inside so we did. We ordered, drinks came straight away and very quickly came the fish and chips!! Fresh crispy batter, good size fish and plenty of chips!! Go and eat there!! Don't be frightened of the queue..its only for takeaway. Go in the door on the right...to seated area. It's really a great place!!

Very busy fish and chip shop eat in or takeaway. Highly recommend the battered mackerel and chips. Well worth a visit but very busy in season.

The sit-in dining room has little booths which we loved. The mackerel fillets were absolutely delicious. Even though it was super-busy , the staff were lovely.

I absolutely love fish and chips. Unfortunately, these were very disappointing. You expect grease with fish and chips, however you don’t expect it to leak out of the takeaway box, out of its bag, and out of the bag carrying the rest of our food. It then leaked all over the table. Besides the grease excess, I had cod bites and chips and my husband had cod and chips. Both were bland and tasteless, we certainly won’t be going back.

As Northerners from Yorkshire, it’s safe to say we know a thing or two about fish and chips, some say we have the best chippys in the UK! (World even!) While holidaying in Weymouth, we noticed the long queues from Bennetts stretching into the harbour and decided to give it a go one evening. The takeout service itself was slow, and for a family of 6 our order came to over £80, which we felt was quite expensive (granted the restaurant is located right on the harbour and everything is cheaper up North) The most disappointing thing was several members of the party found bones in the fish (picture attached taken from one of the haddock orders). We appreciate it’s never 100% guaranteed to remove them all but this quantity isn’t acceptable. My haddock also seemed to be very thin, even though it was actually classed as a special large. Furthermore, we were also surprised at the sheer amount of grease, something other reviewers seemed to have mentioned. This has certainly left us with a salty taste in the mouth!

Every time we visit waymouth we have to get food at Bennett, this place is amazing, the food is unbelievable, I ordered cod & chips, the cod had to have it's own box, it was that big,and very tasty a very popular place, so, you might have to que, but we'll worth the wait, fabulous food, fabulous service, and fabulous location, 10/10,👌👌

Vibrant and oober busy. Waiting time was about 45 minutes. Fish was delicious 😋 and very reasonable.

Very nice fish and chips and their sauces are the best! The gravy and the tartar sauce, we're still thinking about it after our holiday! Service we received was very good as well.

Been going to Bennett’s for years whenever we visit Weymouth. The place hasn’t changed although the staff have, they were welcoming and very friendly and helpful. We decided to eat in, mainly because if you try to eat outside you get attacked by seagulls!! Very cramped seating area with people pushing past trying to get to the counter etc. The young lady who brought our food out was lovely, extremely helpful and friendly. Food came within 5 mins of ordering. Food was great although we felt it was expensive for the amount we got. Best part of £30 for fish cake & chips and pasty & chips with 2 cans of drink! Overall good food & great service.

Best Fish and chips. EVER. Worth every penny. I'd drive back from Peterborough to Weymouth to eat from here again as nowhere else is going to live up to it.

Good service but there was a queue so an employee was rushing the others therefore the chips were barely cooked and the fish was caked in batter that was a mixture of mushy and hard/burnt. I’ve had it before from here and it was good so not sure what happened this time!

Very busy - big queue for takeaway at 8pm on a Friday but as we were eating in we could jump the queue and we're served fairly quickly. The Fish and chips were very good - no wonder there was a queue out of the door.

Quite simply the best fish and Chips I have had. Didn't brave the gulls outside, so ate inside. Tea. Curry sauce and a beer too. We were part of the Lotus Drivers Club Annual fish and chip run and came down from Coventry in a 1967 Elan. Worth every mile!

We were staying nearby and visited their truck at Reynolds Community center on a Tuesday evening. Really tasty cod and chips, efficient staff. Reasonably priced. We ordered online and our food was ready to collect as soon as we arrived at the truck.

Small but nice shop right on Weymouth harbor. A little away from the hustle and bustle but definitely worth the trip. There are great, fresh fish & chips and pies & pasties. Everything was super tasty. Two recommendations. For takeaway, order directly to the table using the QR code in front of the door or at your seat using the WR code. Then you don't have to queue. And: the medium fish is enough ;-)

Quite possibly the best chippy in the UK. We have decent chippy's in Brighton, but Hastings tops them. There's a chippy in Cromer that's decent but not as good as this. This is even better than the fabled Beck's chippy of St Ives in Cornwall. Absolutely top notch.

In my opinion the best fish & chips in weymouth, food cooked to order, fresh & delicious, very reasonably priced, a little wait for food, but very much worth the wait, you can sit outside the pub next door to eat if you order a pint, a lovely shaded bench for the dog & a fresh bowl of water ! Ordered large cod & chips, & wow, the large cod is gigantic!!! It is very nice and fresh, though, just so much of it, though for the price, this is warranted. Worth a visit.

Food is amazing, fish and chips of course. The price was very different from the last time we went in 2021 but the quality and amount of food was still as good as it ever was. Even had some for the seagulls !!

A return visit : I decided to pop back in after the last visit, so glad that I did... Had the best Plaice and Chips, I have had in many years, batter was perfect, chips plentiful, but the fish itself was cooked to perfection,

Me and my wife went to have fish and chips in Bennetts fish and chips, the restaurant was full with no seats for dine in then we oder takeout however after our order, we found the tables are empty and we sat in one of the table. One of the staff came to us and told that we cannot dine in rudely manner.

We were in Weymouth for a few days and had been told that this was THE fish and chip shop in the area. It did not disappoint, quick service even though they were rammed. The food, as a proud Northerner, I know good fish and chips. I had the cod and chips, with a curry sauce. My partner had fishcake and chips. The best, without a doubt, that we have ever had! Amazing food, could eat there every day. Only downside...seating. I appreciate that the space is small. A few tables outside would help. In saying that, perhaps they are restricted. But the food is definitely going back next time we are in Weymouth.

Sadly it was very dirty, total confusion as to what was going on between staff, they seemed lost and didn’t have a clue. When I asked for haddock which I was really looking forward to I was told we have cod, I was happy to wait for it to be cooked however the more senior chap obviously didn’t want to, it could take 10 or 15 mins…but we have cod ready now. With the chaos and reluctance to cook along with the general tidiness I decided to go across to the Marlboro. As I left there was some sarcasm aimed at myself and friend. To be treated this way was uncalled for and what I saw and witnessed I dread to think how they are going to cope in a busy summer with untrained junior staff yet still charge what they do, they are very complacent . Once at the Marlboro we were served quickly and efficiently by experienced , presentable welcoming staff, yes I waited for my haddock . Won’t be going back to Bennett’s to have my eyes scratched out anytime soon.

Probably THE best fish and chips on the South Coast. Everytime I visit Weymouth I'll go out of my way to eat here. Beautifully cooked chunky chips and the fish is simply huge and sublime. And believe me when I say the fish is not all batter like many places but huge flaky, smooth chunks of pure white delicious fresh cod. All for £13.50. Wow !!!

Everytime I visit Weymouth I'll walk how ever long it takes to reach here for the absolute ultimate fish and chip experience They are by far the most tastiest chips ever and the fish is sublime. Last visit I paid £13.50 for a large cod and chips....it was freaking huge and not all batter, infact the opposite it was all thick, chunky, soft, fresh, delicious fish. Yes, you might need queue a well but trust me, its totally worth it

Visited yesterday 2/6/2024 and ordered two large fish and chips. curry sauce, coke and a bottle of water to eat in the restaurant. After about 25 minutes we were given our drinks and about 10 minutes later one fish and chips turned up, after several more minutes the other fish and chips turned up and was somewhat larger and on a bigger plate! I also had to ask for the curry sauce as it appeared to have been forgotten. Food was nice but I wasn't happy about the disorganised service and being served two different sized meals, when we had ordered and paid for two large fish and chips, (one was on a significantly larger oval plate than the other and the fish were rather different in size too). My partner enjoyed her meal so I didn't want to cause a fuss and complain at the time.

This is our return visit after many years not been in the area and i don't often give 5 stars. The fish and chips are still as good as we remembered. Quality and size of fish still great. We had late breakfast so not very hungry for lunch, so we ordered the mini meal at £8 that come with an extra side. The fish is still decent size, like many regulars elsewhere with plenty of chips.

Absolutely brilliant fish and chips! Right on the quayside. Very friendly and helpful staff that were happy to get you any extras you needed and always smiling. My husband and I decided to sit in the restaurant and both went for the Ultimate Fisherman’s Lunch consisting of; cod, chips, mushy peas, bread & butter, pickled onion, pickled gherkin and tartar sauce, we decided to go large for an extra £1 each… there was SO much food! The cod and chips were boiling hot, with a light super crisp batter on the fish, the flakes just glistened as you cut through we couldn’t fault them at all. Just a couple of points for this being 4 rather than 5* - it was quite a lengthy wait for the food despite being some of the first to order, without it being too busy and that the tartar sauce was rather sweet. We will definitely get fish and chips from here again when we are next in Weymouth though!

Bennett's is a must go for anyone in the area! Our cruise docked very close to the area and we decided to take a day trip into Weymouth to see the local street fair and products. Bennett's was hands down one of the best places we went to! The place was bursting with people when we arrived. It has an option for dine in or takeaway and we decided to do the takeaway option. Our spot in the line was outside the restaurant but it did not matter at all, the line flew! We were serviced and with food within 5 minutes. We orded the Large Cod and Large Chips and that was enough for 3 of us. The cod was light, with crispy batter and just OMG! The chips were thick cuts and so well cooked. Just hands down, a 10/10! If we ever come back, Bennett's is first on the list!

Fabulous fish and chips! Freshly cooked, light and crispy with no oil puddle. Lovely tartar sauce and chips thick and tasty. Staff really friendly and attentive. Best fish and chips I've ever had! Great value for a family of four. Would highly recommend coming here if your visiting Weymouth.

This place is very close to the shuttle stop for the cruise port. The food is very good, but not the best fish and chips in town. It will do.

Opted for standard haddock and chips to eat in. Very busy, but there is a separate ordering till for eating in. Well cooked fish crispy batter couldn't fault it. Nearly as nice as the fish and chips back home in Yorkshire!

Got takeaway from here when down in Weymouth briefly. Nice selection of food on the menu and it is very well priced. The quality of the food is also really good it is all delicious. The only critique I would give that for those ordering and doing collection it is quite unclear how to collect. When you go to the end of the till it takes quite a while to catch someone’s attention and hope you are in the right place, so maybe some more clear signage of ‘ONLINE COLLECTION ORDERS WAIT HERE’ or something of that description would be great. But other than that great overall!

you're in england... of course you have to try fish and chips... and this place covers all the basis... fun fact; as india has had a large influence on british food culture, one of the unique and tasty things about this place, is the ability to dip your fish and chips in CURRY SAUCE (if you so desire)... for a couple extra pounds, you can have a full ramekin of curry sauce with your signature english snack... like meat pies? got some homemade ones here as well... awesome service... check out the video and pics of this yummy location...
