Local type boozer in the heart of the city. Always a decent place for a pre-match drink

I live round the corner from this venue and am a regular and I love this place. I go Friday and Saturday nights and I'm never waiting too long for a drink. All of the bar staff are really friendly and the place has a real sense of love, acceptance and good work ethic.

We used to live very nearby nearly 20 years ago but never visited this pub because they didn't allow kids to enter the pub, not even to use the toilet if they were sitting outside with their family. In those days there were very few pubs or bars in the area with outside seating so I thought that very short sighted. That all changed with the pandemic when Oxford St was pedestrianised, now there are tons of places with outside seating. Seeing customers' kids stopped from using the toilet here still sticks in my mind. This time we visited for Music in the City. It has a nice stage for bands - it's a permanent stage for their drag act nights - so it's an excellent venue tor that. It is now child friendly which is good as my friends came with young children. The pub is nice, however the drinks are extremely expensive by Southampton standards, we were charged £13.20 for two pints. We won't be visiting again as there are many other places in the area that charge less. We bought exactly the same round later in another independent pub (ie not part of a chain) for £11.60.

Absolutely brilliant establishment. Very welcoming and accepting LGBT+ venue with great bar staff, nice food and phenomenal live acts.

The London Hotel is always a safe and friendly place to be, even on match days. It's spotlessly clean, the staff are friendly and very good at their jobs, even when the pub is very busy, you won't wait long to be served. The food is beautiful and freshly cooked. Sunday roast is an absolute must.

The straightest gay pub I've ever been to

I have just moved to Southampton. Tried this bar tonight and the music good, the vibe good but on a Saturday this is a straight bar. There were a few gay people dotted around the room but very much in the minority. I hope other nights of the week are more gay.

The London is a friendly and thriving LGBT friendly establishment in the Ocean Village area of the city. I've always found the bar staff to be helpful and welcoming. Great for drag shows, cabaret or just local meet ups.

Me and my partner and a friend went to this place Saturday 24th February to have a drink, but we was turned away by a very impolite bouncer who said we were all too unsteady to come in which we were not, and told to go away for 50 mins and have something to eat we walked away and went into the casino opposite who let us enter without any problems, we had something to eat in there and then went back to the London and again was told we cannot enter the bouncer said we was not gone for 50 mins I told him we had something to eat, but he still did not allow us in we have been going to the London for many years and never caused any problems at all we will never be stepping foot in the place ever again, I find the bouncers very rude and we feel that it was just a excuse because my partner and friend are quite tall and they assumed they would cause trouble which they wouldn't of done, we then went into the med bar club down the road which also let us enter which tells me that the bouncer was discriminating us in entering the London, I will be letting everyone I know how disgusting this is and to not go in there

First visit and I know it's a gay pug but I thought it had a great atmosphere and I would go back again

Nice pub to spend a few hours with a friend. There's always some kind of entertainment going on, which lights up your evening.

Always a good atmosphere and night out

Quieter of the pubs on Oxford Street popular with locals and LGBTQ+ Community alike - I daresay it gets quite a lot more rumbustious when the Cabaret starts.

My friends and I were unsure how to enter the venue. The sign said to follow through the back door of the bar to enter, which myself and my friends did. Upon discovering this, myself and my friends approached this door. We were chased by the bouncer, who had ginger curly hair with a stretcher in her ear. She told us we were unable to enter through the side door. We then explained the confusion and how the sign had mislead us. She continued to bark sarcastic remarks and told us we would no longer be able to enter the venue, despite a genuine misunderstanding regarding the venue entry. She insinuated we were disregarding the rules and that we would no longer be welcomed to the venue. We explained how this incident was a genuine mistake, to which she laughed in our face and said “well, try mail room then love”. Her customer service was appalling and she was visibly grinning when we were confused as to the situation. I have never been to Southampton before but was made to feel that I was never welcome again. The worst service I have ever received in the public sector. DO NOT VISIT!!!

The place was incredibly welcoming and vibrant. The atmosphere was lively, the staff were friendly, and the diverse crowd made for a memorable evening. I highly recommend it for a fun and inclusive night out.

Not a very friendly place. Stayed in Southampton for 5 nights and visited the bar on busy and dead nights during the week. Bar staff not friendly. Not even a thank you or cheers with a beer order. I had cash to tip (and I’m generous) but didn’t feel anyone deserved it. As an American visiting, (or any newcomer for that matter) a general chat about one’s visit would have been appreciated, especially when the bar staff is not busy. Not impressed but it has so much potential.

Love going there as its my place to be at and be myself and be social able

We had a delicious Sunday lunch here recently and were lucky to get a fantastic Sunday pork roast. Everything was tasty and good sized portions. The staff were also friendly in a welcoming atmosphere

It's not always racey, get here for an early chilled beer before hitting the rest of Oxford Street

I go here most weekends, not the cheapest but usually has a good atmosphere and live acts over the weekend, drag bingo and quiz in the week, definitely a fun night out. Friendly all round.

On the Oxfors streed, offering good burgers and several beers on the tap. Food is very good (beef burger), dishes are big. Theres evening entertainment, but havent stayed enough to see it.

Went on Sat night... Nothing more to say. Standard disco, crammed in like sheep, sticky floors. Stayed one drink and the only reason went was one extra drink after the pub shut... With so many awesome venues in Southampton and in the vicinity I don't recommend at all. Avoid.

Nice pub, but someone decided not to serve us any more drinks, considering that we had enough. I mention that we sat quietly on the terrace without any behavior that would disturb anyone. As if we were at a bar to drink hollywater, not a drink. The security staff is extraordinary. Too bad about the room manager who decides how much and how everyone drinks. I have never been treated like this in any gay or straight pub.

I've been visiting this place on and off for 20 years. Always a good time at The London. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere where everyone is welcome without judgement, the security staff do a good job of looking out for any potential issues and dealing with things if needed. I'd like to see a greater variety of cask beers but then I'm more of a craft ale drinker and appreciate that's not what the venue is about. The entertainment is always enjoyable and you cannot beat some 80/90s 'Guilty Pleasures'. I've never stayed there or been for food during the day, but have heard positive comments on both.

Always a great laugh. Come in every Thursday for Cherry's Quiz and enjoy it every time. Busier atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights. And have been for the Cabaret a couple of times which is always good fun. Good range of drinks and at the usual price you expect in a pub these days.

Finally got around to visiting the London whilst passing through, will be back. Great night, and excellent staff. Lewis was a delight, even charged my phone behind the bar for me! And of course, fabulous quiz by Cherry.

First time iv been, amazing atmosphere, friendly staff, fun night out

I’m new to the UK. Been here a month. And I just wanted to have a beer in a safe space. Once I walked through the door I asked the bartender how he was and that I wanted a Guinness. Cause obviously I’m British now. He then said he can’t serve me because I’m too drunk. I asked why and he replied, “I could see from the way you walked in you had too much to drink”. I had one glass of Prosecco with my friend and her mom before coming here. In the Uber back home now. I’ve never felt more embarrassed. 😭

I thought the UK was a welcoming country. One of the barmen at The London Hotel in Southampton just showed away my friend, for being drunk based on the way he walks? It is unacceptable to belittle someone on how they walk when he wasn't even close to being drunk? Kind regards

First time trying the Sunday roast , and definitely wasn't disappointed. Large portions, freshly cooked vegetables , choice of 4 meats and lovely deserts . Highly recommend and will definitely be back soon for another one.

An amazing night out full of fun and laughter

A wonderful friendly pub for anyone, all are welcome and felt very comfortable in the many seating areas and the lounge available to sit and have a drink. Very good prices for the area of Southampton it is situated within and when you want to get up and dance to the great shows and DJs they have available on various nights it makes a great night out for anyone who wants to enjoy themselves. Such great work by the team to make it a fantastic. And as for the pubs decore it really takes you back to those great and grand times. Totally LGBTQ + friendly ❤️💗.

What is there not to like about The London !! If you need a great night out, you have got to come here. Expect to have to queue to get in, it's worth it, and it's not for the faint hearted !! Great DJ's, great acts, great staff.

Nice layout inside ,has entertainment most days ,like the idea of booths so there's private seating areas for some ppl if they prefer but downside is .. the loos are very tiny & up too many states plus no sigh on them stating weather men's or ladies or a door on the outside for privacy & not much room to sit down neither .good idea if the bar being in the middle tho & friendly staff x

Traditional old boozer that is now very popular as a gay bar. Very busy on Friday and Saturday and the drag shows are very funny. Sunday is more for the regulars and the show is free every night. Have a blast.

Great pub for Saturday night drink and dance

Had a lovely veggie roast on Sunday. Everything was served freshly cooked with a vast choice of vegetables, nut roast, potatoes and vegetarian gravy. Staff were polite, friendly and willing to help. Highly recommend.
