Great service as soon as we arrived, my chicken was cooked the best way I've ever had it and the waffle was very thick. Hubby had the ribs and they were again the best we've both had as they were so tender and succulent.

The Lockhart has the best fried chick in London hands down! Perfectly cooked and seasoned and still so juicy. But it's not just the chicken. The sides are all fantastic. The cornbread is so rich (you might want to ask for the butter on the side) and the coleslaw and collard greens were both fantastic! Highly recommended!!!

Cenamos aquí debido a la selección de vinos californianos, y no estamos decepcionados. Sí, no es barato, nunca lo es, pero yo estaba totalmente con este contenido. Highly disappointed with this place. When we walked in, 2 of the staff looked at us but then busied themselves with other things for 2 mins before coming to greet us (a smile or acknowledgement would've been nice if they were in the middle of something). I can forgive that, because once they did serve us, they were pretty nice. What I can't forgive is the food (and drinks) being plain bad. £3.50 for a juice which obviously came from the supermarket value range is a joke - note to owners, look at Bernardi's on the same street which use higher quality ingredients and add a few extra ingredients to make it worth the premium. We ordered the fried chicken and waffle with maple syrup and the pain perdu with rhubarb compote. The fried chicken was okay but the waffle was the worst waffle I have ever tasted - actually it didn't taste of anything. The maple syrup was horrendous and watery, again tasteless. I couldn't finish it (and I rarely leave anything on my plate). The pain perdu was no better and was fairly tasteless. I don't know how they could make such usually delicious things taste so bland - it's as if the kitchen ran out of some basic flavourings, including sugar. The waitress didn't ask us how things were despite us leaving stuff on our plates so I guess she didn't care. We were prepared to tell her what we thought but couldn't be bothered since we weren't asked, so asked for the bill and left. One to avoid... and I don't think they'll be around long given such bad food in an area with so much choice.

Visited here with a group of work colleagues. The food was average but on the expensive side. However, when paying the bill I hadn't noticed that service was already added and paid the total by card. I handed the waiter a tip in cash (broadly in line with what they had already added).Whilst I accept the I didn't notice the bill had the charge added, I would expect a waiter (when handed a large tip) to mention the fact that service was included and allow the customer to give further tip if deserved....It's left something of a sour taste.

Brunch with the family. They're trying hard but it's just too expensive for what you get, we'd have been better off at the Gail's down the road. Maybe we left too quickly, but there was no offer to refill the "endless" coffee. Afterwards, there was a bit of an aftertaste and not in a good way. Not suitable for vegetarians.

My friend picked this one for late brunch. It's an American restaurant with American owners and a southern American chef (I read online). The menu is southern US - chicken and waffles, shrimp grits, etc. The portion sizes are small and - feel bad saying it because the staff seem quite proud of their restaurant and it's been acclaimed in the online articles - but I did not feel the overall meal and service combined was worth the extra cost at least for brunch. Vegetables were altogether missing from the Brunch menu (except the okra in Bloody Mary!) - so I asked for a side of tomato if possible with my scrambled eggs and sugared pork loin. (Yes, I realize tomatoes are technically fruits.) The somewhat inconvenienced server says yes, but it will cost £5. I expected it to cost something, certainly, but I must not have hid my shock at the £5 price very well. Someone from the kitchen then came unsolicited to the table almost immediately to explain (so I "wouldn't think he was crazy") that tomatoes are out of season here and they have standards which mean they would need to ship the tomatoes in from far away... Yada yada. They will not lower their standards to purchase tomatoes from a supermarket here, not ever. The whole thing made me feel pretty embarrassed, like I had insulted him personally by even asking. Oops. Bottom line, I did not get any tomato with my eggs. They did have Tabasco sauce however. Bottomless filter coffee is a nice offering. The coffee was brought to me without milk/sugar or anyone asking me about either. I later asked for milk, and it then came...but I was afraid to ask for sugar too when it didn't come ... in case I would get another lecture from the chef about his standards for improved sugar cubes or something (see above: tomatoes). Comparing this, ahem, "upscale" brunch choice with the more jubilant (and more plebeian) Breakfast Club restaurant for similar American offerings (with larger portions) in central London ... I'd recommend that hungry people and/or homesick Americans just stick with the lower class tomatoes and friendlier service they'll find at the Breakfast Club. (It's worth the wait in the queue there. They also have more options.)

My son took me here for dinner. It had long been one of his favourite restaurants. It is not too big so booking is essential. Friendly welcome and efficient service. Good choice of beers both bottled and on tap and good cocktails and wines. Bar downstairs and restaurant on ground floor. Menu changes every day but always A few favourite standards like southern fried chicken, grits, gumbo etc.We started with a couple of appetisers: devilled eggs: you get half an egg for £1!, pickled shrimp: very tasty but a bit tough, chicken fried cheese curds: these were my favourite, soft, stringy and crisp all at once, slices of smoked cured pork bell which reminded me of jamon iberico - the meat was tasty and smoky and the fat was transparent and melted in the mouth. For mains, I had smoked neck of pork with dirty rice: really excellent and juicy, and my son had duck with smothered cabbage and blood orange. We also ordered red beans and grits for sides, both historic.I was delighted that there were no fries to be seen - hooray!Overall a good experience, not the cheapest but not bad for thus part of London.

Very much enjoyed The Lockhart. The lunch time slot I had found the restaurant nearly empty. Only 3 tables were being used which certainly did not help create any ambience or buzz. However, the service was OK and food itself was outstanding albeit a little over priced for Southern American fare.

I tasted quite a bit for only one diner. Devilled eggs, Wedge Salad, Cornbread, Fried Chicken which came with Cole Slaw and Collared Greens.

As a Southern boy myself I have to give the food very high marks. The Cornbread is seemingly a signature dish and understandably so. The butter and honey topping made it even more tasty.

We have been waiting for a long time to try this local restaurant. It was very disappointing to say the least. The place does not have any atmosphere, smells a bit like a butchers as you walk in, the background music is very odd as if you are in a caff.We had to try to get the waitresses attention for everything including trying to place our order (I noticed other diners had the same problems) despite the place not being busy. The food arrived late, the corn bread that she suggested didn't come for ages but apparently it takes 25 minutes but it would have been nice to be told. When the food finally arrived it was cold and had to be sent back. As we could see the kitchen we could see they were not busy but were more interested in chatting with the waiting staff while they played with the tub of butter that was sitting on the counter. The area looked messy and not really fills you with confidence. The food was odd it was like eating in someones house who was having a reasonable attempt at cooking. Odd small plates which I guess makes the food look more. Taste was ok but certainly not worth the money. The whole experience was not worth the money. I always feel it is a shame when a local restaurant is not good. But there are other excellent establishments on the same street.

A group of four came here for brunch on Sunday and we really enjoyed it. One of us was a true southern girl and so she knew what she was talking about when she said the food was good. There was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant which was nice and open without too many tables squashed together. The only issue we had is that often the person who took out drinks orders was different to the person who brought it to the table and rather than interrupt our conversation to ask who had ordered it they just put it randomly on the table. The portion sizes may seem small but they are so dense that you don't really need more. The staff were happy to answer any questions about the food and a couple of the options are gluten free. I would recommend and would visit again.

The collard greens, shrimp and grits and homemade bread were fabulous as well.
The cornbread, which is baked to order, tastes wonderful-though I could have done without the mountain of butter that they'd melted on top of it (the more health-conscious in our group wouldn't touch it).
The room is open, with simple, rustic furnishings and an open kitchen-it also has a large downstairs eating area with a bar.
The service was patchy. Three of us arrived for brunch at 11.45 on Saturday morning. We were the only diners other than one other table of 7. Coffees arrived fairly promptly but it took 45 minutes to produce any food. The fried chicken on a waffle was good- exactly what it said it would be. The dirty rice with crab meat and oysters had no crab meat, 2 tiny oysters that may well have been mussels, and some very very spicy sausage. The latter was not mentioned on the menus and was the overwhelming ingredient ( portion was tiny, no more than a couple of level tablespoons). The first time we complained we got no where. The second time we were offered an alternative but by then everyone else had finished. Our third order was a beef and fried veg dish with a fried egg on top. Again a relatively small portion but actually big enough as it was not very nice. We have travelled extensively in the USA,but this place does not show any resemblance to anything we have encountered there. It doesn't look American, there is no American style service, there certainly are no American sized portions, and the food was just simply poor overall. The bill came to £45- that's after they deducted the cost of the Dirty Rice dish.

Attended The Lockhart on a Travelzoo voucher special which included 3 courses and a glass of prosecco. I started with a pumpkin soup with girolles which was beautifully smooth, creamy and tasty. My husband chose the snack special and was provided with three snacks chosen by the chef - a sausage and pickle mix, a prawn on a piece of lemon and a devilled egg. These he described as being disappointing and bland and certainly not good value. Main courses chosen were southern fried chicken and short rib - both of which were succulent and delicious albeit rich given that we opted to order a very delicious cornbread smeared in honey butter as well. Dessert included a lemon ice box which was very refreshing and a chocolate chess pie. I found the pastry to be very thick and stodgy and thus was unable to eat it all. Ambience was okay with a mixture of differing types of people in a reasonably modern room. It was a good meal and yes, I'll probably go back.

Paula Deen would not know what to do with the melted butter!!I had the short ribs which were excellent. Recommend ordering the cheese grits as a side. It's an off menu item. Others had shrimp and grits which were not quite Louisiana home. Friend chicken was solid. Were quite full so no sweets to end the meal. Would definitely return. Service was great. USA wines were a pleasant surprise. Would suggest some more local beers (Abita!!!) and southern drinks.

Overall it was great and I look forward to going back.
I would like to see the menu options expanded a bit and the service was slow at times. There seemed to be confusion as to who was taking care of our table by the wait staff but they were very kind and made amends for it all. Possibly they could have used a bit more help on the floor?
I'm also glad I booked in advance as it was very full by 8PM.

I ate here back in February, the food is all too rich for me, and enormous portions, we totally over-ordered and the waiters should have told us that 2 cornbread was way too much with everything else as it is all heavy, stodgy food. The cheesy grits were too much for four of us to share.

Found this on Code and was convenient being near where me and my friends work. It was quite at 7PM but became very lively afterwards (Thur night). The style is vintage ish and the set-up is spacious - you are not crammed in with other diners.
The staff were all friendly and attentive throughout, only hiccup was my starter, as it arrived about 10 minutes after my friends got theirs and no one actually told us there was a delay, we had to ask.
Otherwise the food was excellent, American, a bit different, good portions, and super tasty. We would definitely recommend having a meal here, accompanied by the lovely wine they serve. It is good value, however, on the expensive side.

We visited the The Lockhart for brunch and being American I was so excited to find a restaurant in England that served shrimp and grits. My shrimp and grits blew my mind and I literally left nothing in the bowl. My husband had the chicken and waffles and we shared the corn bread which was amazing. The cornbread came to our table straight from the oven and drizzling in melted honey butter. If you are on a diet leave it at the front door! We finished off our meal with a sticky bun to share and how we managed to fit it I have no clue but it was so worth it!! Can not wait to head back to London, this is my official brunch spot but I'm also looking forward to having dinner here next time.

Southern US cuisine? Forget those sticky-floored hipster joints in Hoxton. The Lockhart offers exceptional food made with love and finesse. Think David Chang goes Cajun. Atmosphere balances class and relaxation, made possible by the excellent staff. Filling portions, full-on flavours. I loved it.

Went here with my brother to try something different. Short but varied menu and fried chicken with collared(?) greens available off the menu on the dayWe started with a selection of the snacks which was best described as interesting. Worth trying tapas styleWe had the fried chicken and belly pork. Both cooked very well but a bit unbalanced. The pork was pretty much pork with a peach and a dressing. Not very substantial. The chicken portion was generous and came with a 'slaw side and the greens. Very juicy. Finished the meal with the lemon ice box pie which was tasty if intriguing. Service was great. Polite with enthusiasm

Found it very hard to find anything on the menu that really enticed me....also felt the selection was very small. Although the fried chicken was not on the menu we were told it was available (and seemed popular with other diners). The main of cray fish in cream cheese sauce was ok. The sauce would have been better on some maccaroni imo . The main of fried chicken was a let down. No flavour in the coating and the chicken somewhat under cooked. And at 17 pounds for 2 thighs and a leg with a bit of coleslaw and some greens. V over priced, Unlike others however the service was ok...but won't be rushing back.

After hearing so much about the lockhart as the chef was on television and as an amid fan of southern food - I've been to Nashville and the south on 3 occasions. The food good but not great, the brisket which was £23 came on a small side plate with nothing else on it delicious but tiny. When I mentioned this to staff about not having fries, mash or Mac and cheese to a company it they replied "we didn't want to go down that route". Rather snobby if you ask me. Waffles were better than the chicken which was plain. When asked for hot sauce all they had was tabasco. Sorry but I won't be coming back.

This location looks cool, hip and inviting. We went with friends and each couple had a Travelzoo voucher for brunch. There wasn't much of a welcome and when I showed the vouchers the manager had to be called, he gave us a big sigh and said that we could only order chicken. I said that the voucher listed 2 other brunch items and included tea and coffee as well....He shrugged and said ok but said the voucher wasn't supposed to cover the other brunch choices. This made us all feel a bit awkward to say the least! Our voucher included a cocktail which was well made. The food was ok...the best item was the pulled pork. The smoked pork hash was rather creamy and rich but it was passable. Chicken was slightly dry. The service was best described as "odd". It took ages to order 3 teas and 1 coffee. The tea was so weak it became a bit of a joke at the table. When we asked for the bill we had been charged separately for this even though it was included on the voucher. I queried this and the waiter told me "You have seen the manager and I thought we had moved on from here" which we again found a bit odd and confusing. In the end he asked us what we expected from the bill and I told him that we would expect a bill for service charge? I wouldn't say that we had a bad experience, it was just rather strange! I think they need to check what they are offering people with the vouchers or just not do them. They could also have some sort of proper training on what people expect in terms of customer service. I wouldn't visit again but I wouldn't say don't go there either....just be aware of the rather odd service and don't take a voucher!

It is in a very good location and four of us went there to enjoy some American cuisine. What we found was a bare and undecorated room, with very average service. The food was all super-spicy Cajun cooking, with no vegetables except vinegar coleslaw or grits. We had two courses each, of which we all ate very little, with one bottle of wine, and then got a bill for £180. Most people probably won't go back.

Disappointing. Chicken in huge batter was pink inside and served with bowl of pickled dark green cabbage leaves. Practically inedible. Staff nice and replaced chicken dish with a dessert instead, which redeemed the experience. Used Travelzoo voucher but got ripped off. There was a travelzoo menu to chose from and I'm not sure why it was not the restaurant's regular menu. Meal not value for money.

Went with some friends after buying some vouchers from Travel Zoo.A little slow to start with but service was okay however, they couldn't get the order right for one of the dishes and there was some disagreement over what we could have - even though the vouchers stated clearly exactly what we could have!Food was unremarkable and the fried chicken needs work as it doesn't even compare favourably with KFC. Coffee and tea afterwards was also amusing as 3 people ordered tea. It seemed one portion of tea leaves had been distributed between the 3 cute looking mini tea pots. Such a shame. I don't think we'll be back until they've read up on the basics of how to converse and greet customers. It shouldn't be hard work for the customer!Page 101; Don't piss off your customers if they have already paid to eat at your place before walking in. If you treat them right they will actually come back and invest in your business, that is, if it's done right in the first place.

Visited The Lockhart for Sunday brunch. Booked a table for 1100 hrs via toptable.co.uk, and were offered 1115 hrs. When we arrived at a few minutes after 1100 hrs, two tables were occupied. We were given a table next to the kitchen, the door of which was left open the entire time we were there. A bit strange as there were plenty of better located tables, but we made no fuss. After we decided on our orders we signaled to the waiter, who seemed a bit surprised that we wanted to order. Took him quite some time for him to return to take our orders. The food did not take too long to arrive and was good. Two chicken & waffles, one short ribs and one smoked pork hash. Well-sized portions, flavourful, no complaints. Coffee tasted a bit strange but was definitely drinkable. By the time we finished one other waiter had come in. Seemed to go out of his way to be friendly to everyone, unfortunately he went a bit too far and seemed to forget his main task. Had to signal to him three times that we wanted the bill. He seemed to be running around cheerfully but not achieving very much. All in all the indifferent service did not spoil our experience, and the quality of food is good enough for us to return.Four points for food, one for service, averages out to two and a half, rounded up to three points.Incidentally we were there last summer and had a similiar experience as far as service is concerned

My daughter wanted Southern Fried Chicken, she found this restaurant via a search. It was an elegant, clean and roomy restaurant. We ordered the Southern Fried chicken with coleslaw and collard greens and Shrimp and Grits, with a side order of corn bread. The staff were very friendly and helpful, explaining the menu and giving recommendations. I'm a bit fussy about eating food off the bone, like chicken thighs but the chicken was cooked to perfection, it was tasty and juicy, overall the food tasted fabulous, it was really flavourful.Great little find :)

Went to the Lockhart on the 3rd July, what a disappointment. The fried chicken was dry and served with a cabbage and vinegar side, not quite sure what it was or why it was served with the fried chicken. The ribs were small and non descript. We were offered corn bread but it was not mentioned that there would be an additional approx. $7 charge for this. Really corn bread $7 usually that's free! The bill had an additional service charge which raised it by over 16 pounds. Although I am British I have lived in the States for 25 years and am very familiar with American and Southern food , like I said earlier, very dissapointing. My advice.. Eat at the pub next door that place was really good!

I went to the Lockhart for my birthday this year. After hearing that the restaurant has roots in Mississippi, and being from Mississippi myself, I knew I couldn't leave the UK without giving it a try. They went above and beyond, with a bottle of bubbly "compliments of the kitchen" to celebrate my birthday. The food was fabulous. It was true to it's Southern roots, but took the simple foods up a notch and made everything just a little bit fancier. The cornbread is absolutely amazing. If I go back to London, I will go back there just for the cornbread. It felt like home!

This has to be one of the most overpriced, stingy, non wow factor restaurants in London. All portions were small from the bites to the main. They should be embarrassed. For example our main course which were the ribs consisted of 4 or 5 pieces of pork ribs and apparently it came with coleslaw. It was not coleslaw it was just white cabbage with some mayo and chives sprinkled on top. No other veg for £22.50, outrageous. The apparent coleslaw didn't even make it half way through the main course so we had to order extra salads. In total my 2 friends and I paid £42 each for one alcoholic drink, one main, 2 small bite dishes and we ended up getting 2 extra salads because there was no real veg or side dishes that came with the main. This didn't include dessert or even one starter each. Left feeling light. Over priced, cold atmosphere and the restaurant wasn't even near full by 8pm on Friday, we went because it was recommended.

London has so many great restaurants but we thoroughly enjoyed The Lockhart. The menu will change seasonally - we enjoyed the devil eggs appetizer (something unique maybe citrus? Wonderful flavor whatever was the unusual ingredient to your traditional deviled egg), perfect wedge salad with just the right balance of bacon, blue cheese and dressing on solid/crisp iceberg lettuce, cornbread in a caste iron pan bubbling hot straight from the oven (worth the small wait to have this made) finishing with the short ribs that fell apart and melted in our mouths! The first time we were too full to eat dessert and returned a few days later for the lemon icebox pie. Oh My! This is a must! After finishing the first one we ordered a second one. It is on a graham cracker crust with a creamy/custard type frozen lemon treat and topped with toasted marshmallow meringue - delicious! Also very attentive waitstaff, whoever was nearby made certain our drinks were filled and everything was delivered when ready by the kitchen, no delay as all the servers worked together.

Invited by my son in law Andy to celebrate my daughter Helen's Birthday at The Lockhart. Prior to our visit I had read a number of the TripAdvisor reviews only to read a divergence of opinions from one end of the spectrum to the other, It is certainly different! You walk through the front door and one is met by a decor that looks as though the builder has only done half the job! However, it is very effective. We were greeted by a member of staff as soon as we entered and from that moment on every member of staff was very attentive towards us. We had the full selection of snacks between us then we made our individual choices of starters - all very nice - then the main courses. Andy and I were slightly disappointed in that he had read that there were steaks on the menu - we would have both liked a nice steak - but none on the menu. Andy was however consoled by the fact that his second choice - ribs - turned out to be very much to his liking. I had read that the Southern Fried Chicken was very nice, so my daughter and I ordered that. It was very tasty, although a bit like KFC. Ironically I had noted one comment that had stated that they thought the portions were small. Well, all I can think is that they must have been Americans, used to their enormous sized portions, because we all felt absolutely full - indeed we asked for a "doggy bag" for the piece of chicken that I had left and also for the Corn Bread we did not finish. Try the Corn Bread - very tasty. An enjoyable evening, different but good food, attentive service

Went here today with my Son for what we hoped to be a nice lunch ! What a mistake! We were greeted by a waitress behind a counter in the middle of the dinning floor, take your pick of where to sit she said , the place was empty ..(there were just 4 other people eating) we duly picked a table and sat to read the menu...wow! After waiting a short time studying it was clear we needed a little advise and education as it's not every day you see "Muffaletta" or "Dirty Rice" ..on a Menu nor is normal to have "starters" followed by "entree" ? what's all that about , I thought they were the same ?? Anyway a little guidance was alllllllllll it needed and we would be sorted ! Not so! We ordered drinks & awaited the waitress,s returned to talk us through a couple of dishes, she did return but half way through talking to us turned on her heels and disappeared to answer a telephone!, not even an "excuse me" pardon, nothing! Cut us cold off...She was replaced by a waiter who could hardly speak English! We were all struggling now...and my Son (14yrs) more so than anyone, finally after asking him several times to elaborate it was clear it wasn't going to happen so we gave up and opted for what we did understand I.e Southern fried chicken..after a coupe of minutes I noticed 2 out of the four customers in the place eating bread so asked the waiter if he could add bread to our order...I watched him walk up to the pass talk to some "Ginger KP sucking his thumb and shaking his head behind the counter" (could have been the owner for all we know) then he shuffled back to us and said in pigeon English "bread ony pooor eeebning" ! Shrugged his shoulders and walked off ! I was furious ! ... We sat there for a minute or two trying to understand what was going on...here, the attitude the rudeness & absolute failings of basic "hospitality skills" was overwhelming eventually the waitress returned , I explained all we wanted was to buy some bread! She realised the cock up and said yes of course we do , it's a different bread than our evening bread ! but we do bread yes! That was it , we walked out enough is enough ! I guess they don't care based on our experience and their location the words "conceited" come to mind but I'm nobody's fool and thought if they can't even get the basics in order what's the rest going to be like? ... Theres an old saying in this country that comes to mind "They will run out of customers before we run out of restaurants to choose" !

We were a group of 6 for brunch on a Sunday, after we have our initial order we had to ask for everything by going up to the bar, because floor staff were not on the floor - coffee, extra drinks, clearing the table, the bill. The waitress who came to the table was very polite but some some proactiveness wouldn't have gone astray!

Food was mixed, they had run out of the jowl bacon for the scrambled eggs (on a Sunday), grits are definitely an acquired taste) but chicken & waffles and pulled pork burger were delicious.

We sampled a few of the cocktails, definitely a strength for them.
