We came to the Livesey Arms for Sunday lunch as it was recommended to us. Unfortunately the service was poor and the meal was tiny. I only had two roast potatoes the size of brussel sprouts. Our desserts came at different times so we couldn’t all eat them together. Although the portions were tiny, they did taste good. There is also a particularly rude waitress. All in all it was very disappointing and when I emailed a complaint they didn’t even have the courtesy to reply.

Lovely food and good service, unfortunately the room was quite cold so the plates didn’t stay warm and we were quite cold. Would certainly go again but would enquire if they had lit the fires or turned up the heating when we booked. Doesn’t sound like a big thing but it spoiled the ambience

Plenty of choice on the menu. Food not quite as high a standard as you’d expect from the prices…it’s not as good as they think it is! Good, friendly service. Won’t recommend as other great cheaper places in the area,

Very popular pub just off the A16, well worth a visit. Starter of confit duck leg was good, the roast dinner was very good. I opted for the cheese board to finish, followed by coffee. A very good value meal in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

I have lived locally for about seven years in Legbourne, and for a long time now, I have wanted to visit this pub. Myself, my girlfriend and her parents booked for their 3 course lunch menu on Saturday, 9th March 2024. I cannot recommend this pub enough, the service was brilliant, the atmosphere was great, and the food was to die for. We had the set lunch menu of three courses, and every course was amazing! We did not take our dog, but the pub is dog friendly in the bar. We will be returning on public transport to spend an afternoon of food and drink with our pooch!

The night before Mother’s Day unfortunately meant that we started as 1 of 2 tables in the restaurant and ended up alone with the staff organising the tables for the next day, hence there was no atmosphere. The staff were friendly, the food was good - lovely ingredients but a little under seasoned for me. The scallops were beautifully cooked and the bread delicious. The risotto was a little under whelming but very edible. The duck my partner had was soft and well cooked. We didn’t stay for puddings or coffee due to the lack of atmosphere. We will come again perhaps on a Friday night.

I was returning from a morning in Grimsby and decided on a pub lunch. I had been expecting a traditional country pub, but found a venue for fine dining. The staff was friendly and attentive to customers' needs. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. I had the lamb, which was incredibly tender. I will certainly return in the near future!

This place had been recommeded by a friend and we were not disappointed. My husband had the Seafood Supper, a friday night 3 course special for £25, and I had the Hake for £20. Each was cooked beautifully with a good selection of vegetables. My only slight disappointment was the Sticky Toffee Pudding. It was very ordinary and not up to the standard of the other courses.

Looking for somewhere to have lunch when I remembered going to the Liversey Arms many moons ago. Didn’t know if it would still be open or what. Well it’s definitely open and well worth the venture out. My wife and I both had the fish & chips which were very tasty and filling. Washed down with a pint of Timothy Taylor ale with coffee to finish. Well worth the price and definitely going again.

Having taken my mum to The Comfy Duck for her birthday last year and walking out as it was so bad the pressure was on this year to find somewhere much better. The Livesey Arms didn't disappoint. The staff were attentive upon arrival and made us all feel welcome and the wood burner made the restaurant comfortably cosy. A well presented bar and selection of gin also helped. My mum and I had the crispy pork terrine which was very nice, tho an extra piece of rhubarb wouldn't have gone a miss. My wife had the goats cheese bonbons and onion jam which she thoroughly enjoyed. The fresh bread that was on the table was lovely. My wife and mum had the lamb and I the roast beef. Both were perfectly cooked, tho I can see why some would think the beef a little under done, and came with a generous side of fresh seasonal veg. No room for dessert unfortunately.Yes a service charge is added, but I didn't begrudge paying it as we had a very enjoyable meal.

Went for lunch with friend from Cookery school. Starter of wine cured beef with parsnip & beetroot crisps, parmigiano, and various beautiful little pickles was well thought through & utterly delicious, as was the salmon and smoked haddock fishcake. The fish & chips with sauce tartare and mushy peas also absolutely excellent: thin beer battered first class hake, flaky and juicy. Many other things on the menu that I would like to try, so I'll be back soon. Thank you Agostinho.

Ate here on a Sunday lunchtime service. First thing's first, the food was good, the only slight niggle was the fact that the beef was served very rare and one of our party had to send lunch back and request fully cooked meat (however this was dealt with well by the serving staff).

Was taken here by friends...and like true friends, they only take you to good places. This a great pub, under new ownership and being resurrected....if not quite from the grave, then from mediocrity. It really is a very welcoming place and larger than it first appears. No, it's not a barn of a place, but a series of rather nice separate areas which make it feel quite intimate. Log fires really add to the effect. The menu is really good and the food quality, and presentation, does justice to the fresh ingredients used. Wine list is certainly better than the usual "Pub with food" standard, but without needing a mortgage to buy a glass...or even a bottle. If you just want to pop in for a drink and a natter, they seem quite happy with that. New owners haven't been in that long, but have already wrought major changes, (particularly on the food side), and are still, to some extent, feeling their way. Entertainment evenings are now being featured. I'm sure that this will blossom into a great venue and I can only recommend you try it. I really doubt you'll be anything but pleased that you did.

Five of us enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch. It was, for three of us, (including the writer), our first visit. The welcome was friendly and the staff attentive and efficient throughout out stay. The draught bitters and Aspall Cider were very good and the wine (Merlot and Pino Grigio) excellent quality. We were given some lovely home-made (?) bread and butter before our starters of Cauliflower Soup, Chicken Strips and Fishcakes - very tasty. The mains of Beef and Lamb Shoulder were also of good quality, with very good vegetables, Yorkshire Puds and gravy. They were only too pleased, on request, to add Yorkshire Puds to the Lamb dishes. The sweets and cheese boards were very good too - altogether an excellent meal - at a very reasonable price for a three course meal.

Stopped at The Livesey Arms with my parents by chance en route to the Humber Bridge as it looked pleasant from the outside. Asked if we could bring our two (well behaved) dogs in and to our pleasant surprise they were allowed in the bar area where we could also order food. The bar area itself was very comfortable and clean with imaginative quirky decor. So far so good.... The menu had what I would call classics with a twist and also things for the more adventurous. I had squid rings for starter and pan fried sea bass with home made fresh pasta and a delicious sauce. I think it was one of the best meals out I have ever had! The portions were just right but the flavours were phenomenal. You could absolutely tell that the food is made with expertise and care. This is definitely somewhere I would go out of my way to visit again.

Service very good - if a little too fast for a leisurely lunch - however if it was a quick business lunch then the timing was perfect. Ham croquettes very tasty. As was the smoked salmon and poached egg. Fish and chips also good with a nice size piece of fish - not too big. Desserts yummy too. Generally nice relaxing ambience with a small but nice menu. He seemed slightly apologetic when he realised I also ordered monkfish for Sunday lunch . Unlikely to return especially as the food was poor and way overpriced. The food was good. Ours was slightly over cooked from what we had ordered (steak) but still tasty. Some tables were in better locations than others. We were next to where sauces and condiments were stored, and so every 5 mins had a member of staff leaning over the side of our table. Not very pleasant. The service let the restaurant down. It was a bit over casual for the prices and the type of establishment they are trying to be. The staff rattled through options, didn't explain there were additional charges and called us guys 3 times per sentence (literally). This is a rural location with the average age that evening was about 70 years old. And half the customers are not guys! This is enough for me not to return. They need to be aware who their customers are.

We visited this establishment a couple of weeks ago. I have to say the place has been transformed and is very stylish and well appointed. A lot of investment has clearly been put in and it shows. We were a party of six, the food, though not plentiful was excellent. The menu we thought was a tad limited. My only criticism would be the cost for what is after all, a pub. Starters are all over a fiver, some are £8, which we feel is more in keeping with a special occasion and not the kind of place you would visit regularly .I wish them all the best as they are doing a great job, I just hope they don't get over ambitious in their expectations. There are many competitors around which we are trying all the time.Next stop, the Swallow Inn, which is under new management. Menu looks great and prices much keener.

I've been meaning to write a review for a while regarding this pub. We have attended with extended family and young children and a group of friends and nothing is too much trouble. I have eaten at Winteringham fields, The Hope and Anchor and The Pipe and Glass locally, which are all fantastic eateries, so I like to think I recognise a decent meal when I taste it.They don't do a specific kids menu but are happy to adapt the adult meals and there are some good choices on the menu for kids including fish and chips and ham and eggs. The steaks are amazing. Cooked to perfection and tender every time, and I've eaten here many times now. The menu is limited to around 6 starters and mains (plus bar menu) but changes every time we go. They use fresh local ingredients and everything is cooked from scratch. We've had lamb suet pudding and lobster here on various visits, all with a bit of a twist to make the menu unique. They have an excellent choice of wines, beer and non alcoholic drinks. The staff are polite and attentive. You can usually book at short notice. I rang up today to ask to book for xmas eve and my family aren't getting here until just before 3pm. After a quick chat with the chef, the gentleman on the phone came back and said they would keep the kitchen open late for us so we could come out to dinner there. Booked for a family meal out on a Saturday early evening to take advantage of the bar menu. It was still a very expensive meal , even though we had a ' bar meal'The prices are ridiculous- £14 for a pie, served with veg but no potatoes? and the only vegetarian main course was a single ravioli - £16 ? Who are they kidding? My young son had a steak sandwich, which was so rare it was still bleeding- not suitable to serve to a child. Very small portions of puddings at £7.50 rounded off what I thought was a total rip off meal. We were very disappointed, can't understand what the hype is about as it was very poor value for money. The pub has been insensitively renovated and has lost its character. The young serving staff however were the only redeeming factor.

We visited on a sunday and had the 3 course lunch menu, the lamb was delicious and my husband also loved the beef. We opted to share a chocolate nemesis which I'm glad of as it was very indulgent! lovely though! We will be back

We visited for supper last Saturday night and had an amazing meal. The service was friendly and helpful and the food was excellent across the board. Perfectly cooked ribeye steaks, very good sea trout and much more. The food was well worth it and we will definitely be back. It was as good a meal out as we have had in Lincolnshire in the last ten years.

We called last minute on Saturday night needing a table for 6 after our prebooked meal elsewhere was cancelled. Despite them stopping cooking at 9pm they welcomed us, provided the most amazing food and were incredibly helpful.Out of the 6 of us 4 had steak which was cooked to perfection, I like mine rare and it was pink in the middle, seared to perfection and with so much flavour and juice. We all commented the next day how great that steak was - to the point I asked my husband if it was myself or the steak in a house fire which would he choose...safe to say it wasn't me!!Whilst the restaurant is small it has a brilliant atmosphere, the perfect balance between background noise so you don't feel you have to whisper but not so loud you have to shout.I genuinely cannot say enough how much I like the food and service at The Livesey Arms

Visited The Livesey Arms with a couple of friends on Saturday 14th May. Not been for a number of years but had heard it was good which indeed it was. The place was buzzing when we arrived and we were welcomed as soon as we walked in.The food was great with a good menu, lovely bread and plenty to tempt us all. Fresh asparagus, local smoked salmon and goats cheese soufflé for starters, with steak and chicken colchetto for main. The home made ice cream was scrumptious although would have been good to sample the catalan flavour but will return for that. All in all a great evening and will look forward to returning.

Visted here with my mum, husband and 4 month old. The food was excellent the only niggle we could have is more shortbread with the sorbet! The restaurant was clean and so were the toilets, unfortunately I couldn't find the baby changing facilities, and had to change baby in the disabled toilet floor, luckily it was very clean! Will definitely come here again when next in the area.

Visited on a Sat night and although it was busy, the staff were very organised and efficient, Also knowledgable about menu. The food itself was faultless and we all enjoyed our meals very much. There was a really good atmosphere in the restaurant and tables were far enough away from each other to give some privacy. A fantastic night.

We've been visiting family in Ludborough for 20 years and have been waiting for the Livesey to become really good. We went last night and to our pleasure they've finally nailed it! A menu with the brief of Honest British Flavour, lived up to the warm welcome. Sticking close to seasonal and local Lincolnshire produce the choice was classy and varied enough for all to enjoy.Service was good, and well paced for an evening. All courses were delicious and the selection of drinks was equally good to match. We look forward to coming back.

Not going to say too much but came here a couple of weeks ago for Sunday dinner the place looks lovely but I can't say the same for the food. For what I paid I would have expected the quality to be to a very high standard which it definitely was not. I will not be returning.

Looking for a nice village pub for Sunday lunch and brilliantly this one had tables free at last minute (surprisingly) my partner and I attended with three children under 2! Stunning looking pub amazingly presented, service was well above standard lovely and polite and very understanding of the mischievous young children. Was worried about children upsetting the locals so moved away to a quieter seat to which one of the guys from the group approached us and said there was no need as the children were just "children" and we're lovely! Met a lovely couple in there and spoke to some other lovely people, such a friendly environment. Good was fantastic, amazing compliments to the chef! Al Carte sort of food, price was what you'd expect for such amazing food! Had a lovely time and will be making regulars out of us. Fantastic!!

This was our first visit for some years and I must say that the changes are impressive. Open plan with log burner made it very cosy. We visited with friends on a Saturday lunchtime, it was fairly quiet but that's what made it nice for us as we were having a catch up. Three of us had the special on the day which was shepards pie served with cale. Chips were extra. Our other member of the party had fish and chips which was also very good . Only slight comment was that we would have liked a selection of veg.rather than just cale.

We visited The Livesey Arms today for our Valentines Day lunch. I am not sure the decor and lay out of the building is quite to my taste, and we thought it was a shame the stove wasn't lit in the bar area. However when we were taken through to our table there was a cheerful fire burning and we were lucky enough to be seated near it.We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived, and the service throughout was excellent. As to the food, which after all is the most important part of the visit, it was superb. I like my beef very rare, and my husband likes his fairly well done, and for both of us it was perfectly cooked, with a good variety of fresh seasonal vegetables. A very drinkable bottle of wine at a reasonable price rounded the meal off perfectly. I feel very mean not giving the Livesey the full 5. It is probable one of those places that look better in the evening with ambient lighting so I look forward to giving that a try. One thing is for sure, we will be returning what ever time of day we can.

Been looking for a venue for family birthday meal so thought we d try first. Glad we did starters were fine although sons soup was small. Fish and chips were under cooked looked ok on outside but raw batter within and hard chips both times. 2nd times was actually less cooked. As previous had mentioned the best thought i must try. Both other meals steak also undercooked chips the meat in both other dishes over cooked. My meal was taken off bill thank goodness otherwise a very expensive mistake. slightly overpriced, the food just not as good as should be. As i was hungry still the desserts were tasty.Wouldn't rush back.

We reside in Shrewsbury. We visited friends and family in Louth, Lincolnshire. Following a recommendation we booked a table for seven persons dining at 1900 hours on Thursday 20th August 2015. The Livesey Arms is located in a quiet village off the main A16 road. It is immediately apparent when entering the premises that cleanliness is an important factor in running the restaurant. The kitchens are highly visible and a credit to any establishment. What I did like was the contemporary décor in comparison to the aged building. Best restaurant plaques are on display and the establishment certainly lived up to its reputation. Following an excellent dinner, which comprised of a starter - salmon, crab and avocado; followed by mains; rack of lamb, new potatoes, carrots, French beans & gravy. Following dinner, we were presented with a complimentary plate of chocolate brownies. At the end of a delightful evening, the owner approached the table and offered the group a complimentary drink from the bar. A brilliant way to conclude an excellent evening in this fine dining restaurant. I congratulate the management team, well done!!

After reading all the positive feedback we decided to lunch at the Livesey Arms. We were very impressed with the building which had been transformed since our last visit some years ago. Unfortunately we did not feel the food met with our expectations. It was very unimaginative and could only be described as average at best and certainly not value for money. The chips were overcooked as was the egg, the ploughman's lunch was very bland and served without butter which we had to ask for. The service was o.k. but certainly not welcoming and as the restaurant and bar were both very quiet an effort to lift the atmosphere would have been appreciated.

Were not blessed with many decent pubs & restaurants this side of Lincolnshire, so thank god this place exists! Finally somebody who gets it. Great food & wine menu, served in an amazing environment. In fact this is some of the best decor I've seen locally in any pub... No swirly carpets and certainly no dark dingy interior here!We had rib-eye steak and it was truly melt in your mouth. Friendly talented staff and the place has a great ambience. This really should be supported by so many more in order to keep decent places that really make the effort to remain open.

Hadn't been here for many years & went on a Groupon voucher deal. So pleased we did. Whole place has been re furbished. Very smart. Great ambiance, friendly courteous staff. Excellent food. My only problem was what to choose from the menu as I could have eaten any of the dishes, which is unusual for me! We shall definitely be returning sooner rather than later. I have to sample the delights of the rest of the menu!

My husband and I went out for a drive this evening, with the intention of eating at a pub on the outskirts of Grimsby, fortunately for us it was fully booked, so we drove on to the Livesey Arms. What a find, we were lucky to get a table.( think it was because it was early evening)The food was superb and the service was excellent- definitely worth a visit.

The same as many others, gutted that the place is changing to a Premier Inn guests only restaurant, seriously bad move. The place is busy nearly every serving We have even been for Christmas dinner for the last 10 years or so as well as breakfasts and tea times Please rethink this ridiculous decision

We visited to commemorate my Stepfather’s 80th Birthday after he passed away in 2022. He was born in Cleethorpes and as a child looked through the windows of this hotel with his brother saying that one day they would stay here. They both lived to experience staying here, and it is now our privilege to carry on this tradition. The hotel is beautiful, traditional and spotlessly clean. We dined in the restaurant and found the food and service impeccable. We look forward to returning next year…. And every year after.

My husband and I arrived at 1250 to be greeted with “have you booked?” As passing trade but living local we hadn’t realised you had to book and we were informed by a member of staff that they were really popular so tables get booked quickly but she would take a look. We noticed two tables free both seating 4, one in the corner and one set inbetween two other tables. The member of staff informed us that the corner table we had placed our things on was booked at 1:30 but we could have the one set inbetween the other tables and the one where everyone knocked into when passing. I told her we would be done quickly anyway so not to worry. My latte came and I had drunk it before my cake arrived, my husbands’ Americano was very weak but was hot, his cheesecake was tasty all the same and my Victoria sponge equally tasty. Within 15mins a table of 6 was cleared and made available and the table that we originally had chosen was offered as a “choice of where would you like to sit” to customers who had booked. We have eaten in some lovely places and had coffee in some nice settings but have never felt as uncomfortable or unwelcome before. I would say that if passing trade isn’t welcome then put bookings only on your page would be helpful, so customers who feel It would be lovely to drop by and support a local business don’t.
