We visited to commemorate my Stepfather’s 80th Birthday after he passed away in 2022. He was born in Cleethorpes and as a child looked through the windows of this hotel with his brother saying that one day they would stay here. They both lived to experience staying here, and it is now our privilege to carry on this tradition. The hotel is beautiful, traditional and spotlessly clean. We dined in the restaurant and found the food and service impeccable. We look forward to returning next year…. And every year after.

Went to celebrate our friend's birthday. Food was lovely but wine was hugely overpriced, I was charged £15 for a glass of white wine. Wasn't presented with a bottle so not sure why it was so expensive. The atmosphere is lovely though.

Booked 18.30 hrs dinner reservation through Kingsway recognised Open Table System and did not receive any confirmation of booking. Due to lack of any confirmation we contacted The Kingsway and the receptionist reserved a table for four at 18.45 hrs. Worried we now may have two tables booked we cancelled the online booking of 18.30 hrs ( the only booking displayed) On arrival the receptionist showed us through to the lounge ready to order drinks. Minutes later a member of staff informed us we had cancelled our booking which is clearly not the case, the error appears to be with the reception area. The member of staff was not friendly or helpful and told us she could not resolve the issue and we would have to leave. I asked to speak to the manager to which the Woman replied she was the Manager and walked away, certainly no caring customer attitude available there. Our celebration dinner was ruined by someone who couldn’t care less about her customers at this time. Certainly not the mark of good establishment.

Sunday lunch for myself, husband and in laws. Bar area very pleasing and table service. Good choice of menu for a set Sunday lunch and good value. The food was very good for the price we paid, good portion sizes and service for food and drinks was very good. I would have preferred the whole piece of belly pork to have had crackling but unfortunately only half had crackled. My angst came with the positioning of the table, we were sat in the middle of the restaurant near the double doors into the area. It was a wind tunnel, my 75 year old mother in law had to swap seats to try and avoid the breeze, we mentioned it to the staff but they said they could not shut the restaurant doors, we asked to move tables as there were many vacant at that time, they said we couldn’t move because they were fully booked. They said they would speak to the manager, nothing happened. This unfortunately had a negative impact on the lunch as we were all so cold and I felt the customer service should have been better and they could have moved us. Would I go again? Yes the food was good for the price but I will be very specific about the table being at the far end of the restaurant

My wife and I dined here for her birthday. I mentioned on the online booking it was a birthday celebration and there was a card on the table which was a nice touch. There was an option of a la carte or set menu. We opted for the former and the quality of food and portion sizes were excellent. Good value for money and the location being on the sea front was great. Would highly recommend.

My wife and I have been regulars at the Kingsway Hotel (4 or 5 times a year) for the last 15 years. It was once like stepping out of real life into a little bit of luxury. Silver service at the tables, no shorts allowed in the dining room. There was always a maitre d running the restaurant, it wasn’t cheap but you expected to pay a little more for the service and quality of food. The hotel is under new management and has changed many things and brought everything down to a more affordable price. This is however reflected in the quality of the food and service.

I booked to take my friend for a celebratory lunch with her 3 month old baby. It was for a Monday at 1pm. I received a phone call at 4.30pm the day before to say that they do not accept children under five. I had confirmed the reservation twice in an email and text when requested. If this is the hotel policy, they should put a note on their website. We just wanted a quiet lunch, in a pleasant hotel, which I have stayed in and used the restaurant several times. This is very poor communication, you shouldn't treat customers like this. I'm very disappointed and flabbergasted that I received a phone call cancelling, now I haven't got time to book anywhere else.

My friend and I booked here as many other local restaurants are closed on a Monday. We were not disappointed! They offer an a' la carte menu and set menu. The set menu had a great choice and was a very reasonable price. We both opted for halloumi Salads to start. The serving was a good size and the dressing was delicious. For mains my friend had a caesar salad and I the steak and ale pie. The salad was great! Large bowl with huge chunks of chicken. Everything was well proportioned and dressed well. The pie was packed with steak and there was a nice finishing touch of a "K" on the pie top. Served with a creamy mash, carrots, cauliflower and gravy. It was a really delicious meal. £50 for the pair of us with 2 soft drinks each, great price and makes eating out affordable. Parking was good, they have their own spaces around the side of the hotel. Staff were attentive but not intrusive. Love that although our table was not next to a window it was positioned so my friend and I could both look out to sea! Will be booking again in the near future

Restaurant at first glance with limited menu was promising. Service was great with short waits. Ordered chicken parfait with house chutney and toasted ciabatta, the parfait was generous and tasty but was served with garlic stodgy bread so ate it with the french toast that was complimentary on the table at arrival. My guests prawn salad was very ordinary. We both had chicken chasseur with potatoes and seasonal vegetables for our entree. It was a small chicken leg served atop a lump of mashed potatoes and a sauce so thick it resembled a ‘chicken tonight’ one. They assured me mash was not frozen, but if it was fresh, then they must have run out of butter. I was expecting a few small new potatoes. The seasonal vegetables turned out to be a ratatouille stew! Since when are tomatoes, peppers. Aubergines and onions, seasonal vegetables in the UK ? Neither of us touched it. When waitress asked if everything was ok, I told her of my disappointment and she checked with chef and just came back with information about the supposed ‘fresh’ potatoes. Very disappointed. Should have gone out to a chippy and saved fifty quid!

The beef was served very rare and maybe this should be stated on the menu. The selection and quantity of vegetables was poor. Apart from that the food was good and service also good but I’ve rated 3 out of 5 because you can get similar standard at other places for a lot less money. Kingsway used to be known for Sunday lunches with fine selection of veg served at the table but not like that anymore.

I booked in here for our Christmas Eve meal for myself and my family. We booked in for 7pm. We arrived slightly early but was not shown to our table until 7:45 despite a 7pm booking. When the food came, the starters where ok, but the smoked cheese over powered the tomato soup, making it more smoked cheese soup rather then tomato and smoked cheese soup, pate was lovely , the prawn cocktail has over the years shrunk in size! For mains I can not moan about the steak at all, the herb crusted salmon was also very nice however there was only 3 halves of new potato to accompany the dish, the catch of the day which was the fish Brill was over cooked and the bone came off but only to go everywhere on the plate, we even had to ask for a plate for the bone once removed from the fish, the rest opted for the Christmas dinner which was swimming in gravy which is ok if you like gravy!! The roast potato's looked like they had been reheated and the veg (well brussel sprouts with bacon lardons and red cabbage) was a small serving between 6 people, no carrots or broccoli. All in all a very disappointing meal for a highly regarded venue and price! I have to say 2022 was lovely, but after this meal we will not be going back.

Chose the Kingsway for our party of 12 to celebrate mums birthday as we had the previous year however was very disappointed this time with the food. The restaurant setting is lovely table nicely set and staff nice. The food was average the only vegetables served were sprouts and red cabbage which is probably everyone’s least favourite. No carrots no mash just one roast potato. Their gluten free turkey had no stuffing or pigs in blankets like the rest a disgrace when sausages are ready available without gluten. Why don’t they buy gf and use for all meals. My crème brûlée was square so obviously done on a large tray and had a very heavy texture not nice. Seems large scale catering on a budget. When it came to the bill we had three different ones the first had only our drinks on which we could have paid and left but we are honest. The second they hadn’t taken off the deposit we had already paid so by the time the third one arrived it had taken half an hour. Just a disappointing lunch which should have been a celebration. We won’t return next year.

My first visit to The Kingsway for a meal and it’s local to me! I always thought it would be too expensive. I was pleasantly surprised. Loved the traditional feel of the hotel. Very profession staff who were efficient and attentive. Nice lounge areas to sit and enjoy a drink. Beautifully decorated throughout. Spacious dining room with full table service. Food was lovely and generous portions. Although the set menu price was reasonable the drinks prices were expensive but, like a lot of venues these days, this is where the hotel and restaurant industry make their money. Just be mindful of the this. Would definitely revisit. Enjoyed the experience of spending an evening with a little bit of attention to detail, traditional values and nice food. Well done Team Kingsway!

Excellent location and restaurant is large and roomy and tables well laid out but unbelievably quiet for a Friday night. Went for the set menu of 3 courses, other menu available but 3 courses for £22 sounded interesting. I ordered the crabcakes and my wife ordered the pate, both extremely bland with not a hint of crab. I ordered the 'bubble and squeak' risotto which came topped with a poached egg, .......the egg being the tastiest part of the meal. It literally tasted like boile rice, tasted slightly fried and there was no taste of anything else, my wife's pie was again tasteless, but they were happy to charge an extra £5 for some chips, added to the egg this being the best part. Dessert was OK at best, service was OK. I dont think we'll bother again, its a shame because the dining room is really nice but the wine is also expensive but the location and dining room deserve better food despite the cheaper 3 course menu option. We visited there preiously about 3 yrs ago for a family meal and could not fault it but not this time.....

We booked a table for 5 mid afternoon on a Saturday. Initially for afternoon tea but were contacted to say this was not available but a choice of alternative menus including light bites would be available which was fine. Shown to our table and asked for the light bites menu but told (despite very few tables being occupied) we were not permitted to remain in the main restaurant unless we wanted to order full meals from the main menu. Our party consisted of older people with small appetites who would not have managed two courses so we had no option but to be downgraded to the lounge area. Ordered and food arrived after quite a long wait. Food was good but while place lacked ambience. No background music. Cold atmosphere. Concept of customer being at the centre of the dining experience seemed alien. Individual staff members ok but management needs to reflect on how to treat customers. Will not return.

Breakfast at the Kingsway is an experience not to be missed. The experience begins with a charming waitress who make you feel so welcome as they show you to a sea view table, subject to availability. Breakfast is served from 06.30 on weekdays and later over the weekend. A buffet table is the first port of call, offering cereals, fruit ,cheeses and cold meats and much more. You are offered a choice of freshly cooked delights complemented by a choice of not drinks. My all time favourite being omelette Arnold Bennett...a layered dish of omelette ,flaked smoked Haddock covered by a rich mustard cheese sauce, heaven on a plate! In my opinion it is like having breakfast on a cruise liner.

What a wonderful evening. Greeted by the lovely Simon who made us feel relaxed and welcome. We were then served cocktails by the fabulous Bar Manager Andy. He was so warm and friendly. The food in the restaurant was just delish and again the service was spot on. If you haven’t tried it yet, please do. We’ll certainly be visiting again soon. Adele, Whitley Bay.

Went for a meal in the restaurant last night. Although we live in the area we hadn’t tried the Kingsway before. We were very happy with the whole experience. The service was excellent and the food was equally excellent. It was lovely sitting in the restaurant with the great view of the sea. After our meal we sat in the lounge having a coffee again overlooking the sea. It was so good we booked another visit as we were leaving.

I've got to say I was worried when I heard the kingsway had been taken over. The kingsway has always been my favourite go to restaurant over the year's. We had an excellent meal this evening which was just as good as under the previous owners. Can't wait to go back after this next lock down

Sad to say I will not be eating here anymore. It was a shambles from taking the order, the service and the food. My £10 sandwich came after my friends had finished eating, it looked awful and tasted it too. The sourdough bread was thin, toasted and dry in fact I had nicer sourdough in my breadbin from Lidls. Table was booked for 12pm my food arrived about 1.30pm

Had Sunday dinner here yesterday and all four of us were very disappointed. We have eaten several times over the last few years, we will not be doing so any time soon . The food was very average , not much meat on your plate you wou have barely had enough for a sandwich. The waitress service was pretty good. Just the standard of the food is below average.

Having previously been regulars at the Kingsway we dined here last Friday evening for the first time since the change of ownership. The updated decor is simple and fresh and works fine. The service does need some improvement compared to before (with the exception of Simon), however it’s very early days so I’m sure it will get better. The fillet steak was very very good and cooked perfectly (a steak knife would be appreciated). We didn’t enjoy the cheesecake it lacked flavour.Overall the food was good but not as good as before. We have however made a reservation to revisit at the end of October.

Decor is lovely but food and servis very poor, what a shame we were so looking forward to it. Very poor choice on menue, the Lounge menu was far better . We knew it was trail time but so expensive certainly not value for money . There were four of us for lunch. The men in our party wanted to say something, but we didn't want a fuss. Please try harder

We were very excited to be revisiting the hotel after its refurb and agreed that a great deal of effort had been made to modernise the interior, however it felt ‘unfinished’ and lacking a little. I found some staff very efficient but others unfriendly or flustered, especially in the bar area, which may well have been a one off. The food choices were quite varied and sounded interesting but unfortunately, did not meet our expectations at all. The previous silver service was missed although we understand that dining out during these strange times means a change in restaurant etiquette. We felt (4 of us) that we wouldn’t return in a hurry.

Our first visit since the revamp and new ownersGone is the lovely ambience, friendly welcoming staff. The new decor, although much needed, looked clinical and unwelcomingThe staff appeared tense and flusteredThe food, which used to be amazing, was mediocre and only average quality. Nothing like the lovely high standards of the pastIt is doubtful we will visit again, unless things improve Very disappointed

As a party of four , we visited last Friday ,curious to see if the food & service was kept to the same previous owners exellent service where nothing is too much trouble & you experience a lovely evening of great food & service , but sadly we were very disappointed , when we arrived our company were already in the restaurant ,so when we joined them we had to wait over 20 minutes , until we were asked if we would like drinks, then we got the menu & ordered , waited about 30 mins for food which was delicious , but two of us had steak ,we weren’t given steak knives, never asked if we would like any condiments , finished the meal , trying to get somebody’s attention for more drinks ,no luck , then a lady came & said I will get someone to take your order , nearly 10 mins later she came , ordered desserts , still no drinks appeared ! ,I ordered my absolute favourite the “Kingsway Creme Brûlée “ what a disappointment ! The top was lovely & crunchy but the rest was like thin runny custard , I said to the girl who then brought the drinks this isn’t right , to a reply of oh I will tell them in the kitchen ! No response then , during all the time we were eating the staff seemed to milling about around the till area , there was only, The wine waiter , who has been there years who knew what he was doing, giving the special “kingsway “ service well done to him ,but I feel the rest of the staff need training in silver service ,also not once where we asked if everything was all right, very disappointed diner

Recently refurbished and reopened, the Kingsway occupies a prime spot overlooking the promenade and beach. It features a cosy bar where snacks and sandwiches etc are served, plus a very uplifting and spacious dining room, all linen-clothed tables, whose glassware sparkles in the seafront light. We were only able to eat in the bar, because we were working, but we ate there several times and the food was good.

Four family members booked The Kingsway for Dinner on the opening night after the Hotel had been taken over by The Christian family. We checked in and straight away saw the transformation of all the work that had been put in to refurbishing the place, new carpeting, beautifully decorated, new furniture, new bars, Fantastic and well done.We decided to order Fillet Steaks and 2 opted for The Venison Casserole. I can honestly say the whole experience was 5 STARS, the meal was served with a selection of perfectly cooked vegetables, finished off with Creme Brûlée’s and Cheescake - Delicious! Overall I am pleased to see that The Kingsway has been kept locally owned, used local tradesmen for the refit - and NOT turned in to flats.

I stayed on 1 March 2020 having been told it was the only hotel in Cleethorpes and by far the best restaurant for miles. I haven't tried any others admittedly but after this wonderful experience I wouldn't bother. Nice comfy large room and bath/shower room, and the dining was fab. Jose the waiter and his sidekick were great, the food and plates warm and excellent tasting and the fizz very good. Next time, same again please, and by way they have secure parking under cover.

The risotto starter was just the most amazing, creamy taste, with wild mushrooms, delicious. The lamb main course was divine, as was my husbands monk fish. The old fashioned silver service was just the ticket. An all round great taste experience

My husband and I arrived at 1250 to be greeted with “have you booked?” As passing trade but living local we hadn’t realised you had to book and we were informed by a member of staff that they were really popular so tables get booked quickly but she would take a look. We noticed two tables free both seating 4, one in the corner and one set inbetween two other tables. The member of staff informed us that the corner table we had placed our things on was booked at 1:30 but we could have the one set inbetween the other tables and the one where everyone knocked into when passing. I told her we would be done quickly anyway so not to worry. My latte came and I had drunk it before my cake arrived, my husbands’ Americano was very weak but was hot, his cheesecake was tasty all the same and my Victoria sponge equally tasty. Within 15mins a table of 6 was cleared and made available and the table that we originally had chosen was offered as a “choice of where would you like to sit” to customers who had booked. We have eaten in some lovely places and had coffee in some nice settings but have never felt as uncomfortable or unwelcome before. I would say that if passing trade isn’t welcome then put bookings only on your page would be helpful, so customers who feel It would be lovely to drop by and support a local business don’t.

The same as many others, gutted that the place is changing to a Premier Inn guests only restaurant, seriously bad move. The place is busy nearly every serving We have even been for Christmas dinner for the last 10 years or so as well as breakfasts and tea times Please rethink this ridiculous decision

The best Lincolnshire sausages I’ve had they definitely should be an option to buy to cook yourself. The breakfast Is actually one of the cheapest I know of but also by far the tastiest around. A bonus too as also it comes with a tea of coffee, definitely recommend.
