We have been here a few times before and everything was great, Since it has changed hands not so great. I ordered a large fish which was rather bland and the batter was soggy, My partner ordered a gluten free fish and chips which was also bland but the chips were nice. She asked if they had gluten free vinegar they said yes it's £1, She thought that was the price for the bottle when in fact the man said it was £1 for a squirt of vinegar because it's very expensive... So she said no thanks. £1 for a squirt of vinegar is absolutely disgusting. I looked online and can get a 315ml bottle of gluten free vinegar for £4.89 free delivery. Probably get more than 100 squirts from the bottle easily... All in all very bland fish with soft not crunchy batter, lots of skin on the fish, bland peas and extortionate gluten free vinegar price.. We will not be returning....

Great grub, great service. About the only chippy that will cook in veg oil on request, good for us vegetarians and gluten free too, for those with dietary restrictions. Now better than ever, and served by two wonderful people.🤗

Great chippy. Freshly cooked fish and lovely chips. Staff are friendly and service is fast and efficient. The value for money is another great plus. A giant haddock is literally giant and very reasonably priced. This place is our only choice when it comes to fish and chips. We have lots of closer options but the journey is worth it.

Second time in a row I've had chips from here that were poor quality... 6.30pm so no where near the end of serving... 50% of chips were dry n crispy... I feel its realy gone down hill in the last two years since change of ownership, now I hear they may be selling again... I think they were riding on its past reputation that was realy good

Usualy nice food from here but today the chips were dry n crispy.Hadcto throw most in the bin. Proberly because they were closing soon and not cooking anymore. Still no excuse though. If your taking money for it then it should be reasonable quality. Would be better to say there's nothing left rather then push your dry leftovers out. 11/03/24 Updated... Chips were just the same.. brought a large portion at 6.30pm so not near closing time and again 50% were dry n crispy and were thrown away. I feel they are riding on the previous owners reputation which was good. Shame realy

Best chippy in England! I have had many fish and chips in various parts of the country, and this one beats all of them, hands down! Chips crunchy and fluffy, fish cooked to perfection with crunchy batter, not at all oily and all at a very reasonable price. Always will be my go-to chippy if ever I am working in Cleethorpes. Thanks again.

Popped in here before we went to watch Frankie Boyle at Grimsby auditorium after driving up from Mansfield. We wasn't disappointed. Big portions and the haddock was very big and tasty. a lot cheaper price than down in Mansfield. We would recommend this place.A1+++

Needed a meal when stopping overnight in Grimsby. Short walk from the town centre on a miserable night well worth it as these were genuinely the best takeaway fish & chips I've had for years. Really well cooked, very tasty, not greasy and a lovely bit of flaky fish. And considering the price some places are charging they were excellent value. Highly recommended.

I've only just discovered this lil chippy and wow what a find I ordered medium fish and chips and it's a generous portion,the fish was cooked and battered to perfection,the kids got battered sausage and chips also excellent along with the gravy best chippy I've had for along time👌 definitely be going back again.

Been a few times this year, Consistency is the word I'd use, either the Fish is not good and the chips are great or the other way round, had fish chips and peas the other week and the chips were the worst I've ever had from a chippy.

I searched Google for gluten free fish & chips within a 40 mile radius of our home and THE CHIPPY came up as gluten free with great reviews so we drove over to Grimsby approximately 41 mile's from home and I can honestly say the chippy has got it perfect for GF with other GF items available service was excellent with an excellent portion control and No being ripped of with prices (like other GF establishments) absolutely excellent will be back to sample the other GF products thank you Peter Young

Dead fish in shop, grimsby fc fans tried nutting me for wearing a manu top, fish was dead when I got my food, ended up wrapping the fish around some old woman (she cut me in the line)

I have eaten fish and chips across the nation in many coastal spots acclaimed for their fish and chips. I can say now that The Chippy is up there with the greatest of them. The fish was moist, fresh, and cooked to order. The chips actually tasted of fabulous potato, rather than relying on the fact of having been deep-fried to provide fabulousness. I loved the service most; what warmth. Totally recommended.

We needed Gluten Free fish and chips for 5 people and pre ordered to collect later.....it was great value and absolutely beautiful fish and the batter was particularly good....which made an amazing choice for our son and daughter in law visiting from USA and wanting to have the fish and chip experience unspoiled by gluten intolerance....we wanted to say thankyou so much....and we would choose to come back again and again!!!

For me it has taken the lead as best fish n chip shop in Grimsby/cleethorpes. Great taste and even on Good Friday did a fantastic job of dealing with long queues within 10 minutes. (Sausage and chips/fish, chips and gravy)

Really gone downhill since new owners took over. Nothing tasted fresh and fish poor quality. Always used to be spot on but will be reluctant to try again.

Was on my way home just as they were closing and like Oliver gave a sad face and asked for leftovers..got fish fritters and chips . Got home on my bike and it was still piping hot..first time I found fritters in Grimsby..perfect and the chips were lovely.. the people serving were so nice..thank you

Absolutely phenomenal fish and chips. We come to Louth from Glasgow to visit family, and make the trek to Grimsby every time to get food here. I'm coeliac, and knowing I can enjoy my food with 100% confidence that it's safe for me is worth the trip. Portions are massive, and incredible value for money. Would definitely recommend coming here.

Finding a takeaway that offers GF everyday is near impossible, so when we called to hear they can do anything Gluten Free, I actually cried real tears! The food was absolutely delicious! Fresh to order fish which I know is pretty much standard every where but such a good quality of fish big white flakes and a super size portion of standard haddock batter was perfect for me light and crispy,Chips nice and great service, also chairs provided for waiting area. Great value for money and we will be going back for sure.

Had fish and chips yesterday, they have different fryers beef dripping and veg oil loads of gluten free options, awesome cooked fresh, smashing staff, and brown paper bags, not plastic well done 👏

We have recently found out my 12 year old daughter has celiac disease so started to look for a fish and chip shop that serves gluten free food so we can carry on with our take away treat. This seems to be the only one in Grimsby and Cleethorpes that serves gluten free fish, sausage, burger, curry and gravy. We went yesterday and had a bigger order for 8 people including a gluten free order. The staff are so happy and friendly and made sure the gluten free food was labelled, bagged separately and handed to us separately to the other food in the order. Our normal fish was also gorgeous so the food and staff alone meant we would go back again, the fact they did gluten free was a big bonus and means this will now be our regular fish and chip shop!

Very nice chippy, I used to go there alot before the new owners (who are not so new now), and it is still a very good and nice chippy... a must if you like your chippy tea...

My chap and I have been there a few times since moving to Grimsby and the experience is always good. The owners and staff are really friendly and welcoming and the service is great. During lockdown, we order and pay and our food is brought over to us in our car. My partner has the large haddock (it’s huge!), with chips and curry sauce and I have what is now known as ‘the best spam fritter ever’ with mushy peas, the portion of chips is big enough to share. Did I mention that the batter is always lovely and crispy?
