I believe Davenports now own this former lovely venue so they need to take on board our comments (my daughter and I) on our visit for lunch yesterday after having been satisfied customers here for years On arrival there was nobody available at the entrance to check us in at the usual point (as we’d booked a table) so went to look & realised they’d moved the ‘Wait here to be seated’ sign round the corner but still no staff until a waitress spotted us and asked us to wait! Shown to table which had been cleaned (I presume) with something leaving a very sticky residue!! Went to order drinks but was told they no longer did the non-alcoholic cocktails we used to have, & shown on their website in a photo (which coincidentally was my daughter’s drink from a previous visit which I had posted as a favourable review on Trip Advisor & Facebook!!!), so I ordered the closest thing which was a ‘Nojito’ only for the waitress to return and inform us they couldn’t make it because they’d run out of mint!! I was then offered a free drink as an apology so asked for a coffee which then arrived - lukewarm!!!!😨 Menu was very limited compared to their website and too many of the dishes on offer contained various versions of ‘celeriac’!!! we ordered the charcuterie sharing platter & some Parmesan & truffle fries! and then we waited …. and waited…. and waited ….& I then went to enquire as to the delay & the waitresses told me there was a wait (they seemed very short staffed and inexperienced) & the ‘meal’ finally arrived, more than an an hour after ordering (the people at 2 other tables in our end of the restaurant had walked out disgusted by this time!!!!) The food was abysmal consisting of a few thick round slices of chorizo, fried in oil and a bit tough, ONE piece of ‘massacred’ chicken (this was a sharing platter for 2!!), which was also chewy!!, 4 slices of PROCESSED ham (not local cold cut as stated on the menu), a few large chunks of sickly and extremely fatty, pork belly (no crackling), small handful of lettuce leaves, the ‘gherkins’ were a few slices of soggy cucumber in vinegar and (thankfully) a couple of nice bread rolls with a pot of mayo!! We simply couldn’t eat half of it and left (having arrived at 1.30 and departed at 3.30pm) without ordering either a dessert or coffees!!! This is all apart from the totally unsuitable changes to the decor (eg chandeliers & artificial flowers have no place in an historic and quaint village pub), and to crown it all, TWO of the three toilet cubicles in the Ladies were OUT OF ORDER!! 🥴🥴🥴 After the lovely meals and great times we’ve had in all the years we’ve been going there we were devastated to have such a dreadful experience when we were looking forward to seeing how the new management had managed to carry on the good reputation of this lovely and historic place!! Gutted doesn’t even cover it!!! 😰😰😰 Needless to say, we will not be returning and neither, I would guess, will the people who walked out!!! So sad and disappointed!!

October 2024 Is there a change of ownership or a problem with the Littleton? Preparing to organise a family lunch for either Christmas Day or the following Saturday, I have spent four weeks .from time to time, trying to access a reply re menus and cost etc. I have tried two telephone calls, one leaving a msge that was not replied to, and four emails - I received one reply only that said '= it was hoped to have menus ready 'next week' - that was over three weeks ago.

We had booked in advance for 7 people and on the booking form I had stayed that there were vegetarians and vegans in our group. We were told on arrival that a lot of things were unavailable, including a lot of vegan things. They didn't even have a vegan bun for a burger and had to fashion one out of some other bread. I had fish and chips with tartar sauce. It came without the tartar sauce. The waitress asked if we wanted any sauces and I asked for the tartar sauce for the fish and the rest of the party asked for other sauces along with vinegar. I had eaten a third of my meal and the sauces still hadn't arrived. My partner went to the bar to ask for them and the waiting staff were all just chatting and laughing at the bar. We finally got the sauces half way through our meal. Then 20 minutes later, as my sister was eating her last chip they bought her the vinegar that she'd asked for in the beginning. The food was nice but very dry due to having no sauces. I had rice pudding with rhubarb, the rice was hard, I kept having to pick it from my teeth. The rhubarb was in long piece and hard, I had to use a left over dinner knife to cut it. Why not have it cubed so it can be eaten? The food we had was nice but the experience was a mismatch. I'm not a massively fussy person but as a birthday treat it was disappointing.

Was going to another restaurant in Penkridge but it was closed so called in on the off chance. First I impressions this is quaint pub plenty of people in drinking. Having viewed the menu it had a number of item that I could enjoy. We were shown to a table given a menu told the duck was off. After a little while that waitress came over ask what drinks have you got a wine menu no. So I sled what beers you go don't know so I had to get up from my table and got to the bar to try and find out what drinks are. Avaliable. Settled on beer butty bac and cider thatchers didn't bother asking about wine as the bar was bissy. Both of us ordered of mussels in a cider sauce se as a starter had to request a spoon for the sauce. Well needn't have bothered mussels over cooked and you could pick the sauce up with a fork. Mains I ordered the Belly pork my partner the Beefs cheek with a side of buttered vegetables. The pork was cooked well but the pork courgette was over cooked and dry the fondant celeriac fondant was o.k the other purees on little taste side order of butted veg I like to have a bite to them but these were crunchy under cooked. The gravy was gloopy. My partner Beef cheek was well cooked but again the vegetables were raw and gravy gloopy. The food to me appeared to been cooked earlier a nd left in a oven to dry a nd the buttered vegetables whilst looked good were raw. Total price including drinks was £69 which if it had been cooked well would have in my oppion reasonable.

There was a large group of us that booked into The Littleton Arms. The staff were absolutely fantastic, from sweeping up glass underneath our table outside to the waiter service and also the clean up of accidental smashed glass at the end of the night (sorry about that!) They allowed our dogs inside too which was fab! Food was absolutely delicious, we would highly recommend most of the menu. We were slightly disappointed with the calzone starter, there was a lot of dough in comparison to the filling. All round an excellent pub in a lovely village. Thank you ❤️

We had Sunday lunch at the Littleton for eleven people. Our drink order was taken quickly and due to the size of our party we had pre-ordered our meals . Our starters came quickly and ranged from chicken tikka to mussels in a delicious sauce . This was then followed by our roast lunch. Beautifully cooked meat with a good selection of vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding. We also had cauliflower cheese as an extra side which was delicious. Desserts were very good and good size servings. One of our party can't eat dairy and particular care was taken, by the staff, that everything was dairy free for her. A very enjoyable meal and good service. Thank you.

Went on a Friday night for a meal with my partner. Sat down, asked for cocktail menu…. No cocktail menu on a Friday, no drinks menu available. The server started reading out the list of spirits behind the bar. Ordered the chicken supreme. Meal came out, chicken was tough, veg hard and the sauce was tasteless and full of oil. My partner ordered a steak and it was cold and very tough. Paid over £70 for two meals and a drink each. Could of done a full weeks shop for that

We were greeting well and changed our room as we had the top floor and was given a room on the first floor. Room was tired - curtains were torn plus room had a musty smell but for one night were thought we’ll persevere - getting ready to go out in the evening we found we had no hot running water. One of the staff came up to investigate and said we needed to run the shower first ……any the shower was weak and only tepid. Also the shower room had mold on the ceiling plus the towel radiator had rust on the surface. We went out for a meal and came back at 10pm to a very cold room as the two radiators were not on and to make it worse they didn’t come on in the morning so the room was cold all during our stay. We had breakfast included so went down at 8:30am to a choice of cereals where we all chose different cereals and all had the milk from the table and found the milk was sour and off - waitress was apologetic but why was it not checked before put out? We all ordered the full English breakfast which was ok but not for those that don’t like crispy hard cooked bacon. On checking our we expressed our concerns especially the hot water or lack of issue and was advised they will inform the manager!! Sorry guys you really need to take more care and attention if you are going to entice people to stop at your place especially for the £100 a night room fee.

Possibly the worst Sunday lunch I have ever had. Food cold, beef over cooked, vegetables that had either been over cooked or not cooked at all. We only had one tiny dish of vegetables for four adults but this turned out to be a blessing. As the main meal was pretty much inedible we were forced to look at the desserts. My desert the Black Forest cheesecake was awful, a sickly block of goo. On a plus the coffee was OK

Visited for Sunday lunch to meet family. On arrival shown to our table in quaint rustic old building. I found due to very little soft furnishings it was quite noisy. However drinks delivered we chose the Sunday carvery. The beef was very nice and hand cut the gravy very tasty also. The veg for 4 came in one oval shaped medium sized dish and compacted. We had red cabbage a mixture of short green beans and cabbage a couple of slices of carrots and parsnips. The parsnips ( sorry) were terrible, hard and completely undercooked and inedible. Later sweets were chosen and I had the lemon meringue, it was shocking especially at £7.95 infact in the last several years the smallest portion I’ve ever had. I have had a thicker slice of lemon curd and a piece of med thickness bread. The Black Forest gateau fared no better in size. As we sat there talking and contemplating ordering tea/coffees we were asked by our waitress who was extremely proficient asked if we could vacate our table. I could completely understand the request if there were no other tables to which there were numerous or people also sitting talking who had arrived prior to us. All in all definitely not one to rush back to.

I visit the Littleton Arms in Penkridge every so often to enjoy drinks with friends, however less so for food as I find the menu quite limited for my taste A few weeks ago, 7 of us visited the restaurant for dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were seated in a quiet area of the restaurant and the service was really quick. Our waitress, along with the rest of the staff, were very friendly and attentive I ordered the small fish and chips with a side of onion rings to share - the portion sizes were just right and the food was really tasty. The only downside was that the meal was served with garden peas - I would have liked the option to have mushy peas with my meal We really enjoyed our visit to the Littleton and the staff ensured that our friend's birthday was made special I would visit here again for food but I do wish the menu was less limited

We had booked a table and were shocked upon arrival by how empty the place was. We were taken to a ok table but it was sticky and still had a spilled drink from the previous customer, the menus stick to the table, we were bought a bottle of water but never received any glasses for this. We ordered a drink and they arrived quite quickly, we then went onto order food, one roast beef and one roast lamb. The food arrived and was very nice, we waited quite a long time for the plates to be cleared, around 15 minutes, we were offered dessert menus and ordered further drinks. The drinks never arrived neither did the dessert menus, the staff were having a lovely time chatting to each other and their friend who was on a bar stool. The table behind us gave up and walked out, the staff completely unaware, we decided to pay for our meal, the lady at the till had no idea what she was doing. We enquired whether our extra drinks were on the bill and she looked at us blankly. Such a disappointment as it was fabulous but the staffing quality seriously needs looking into.

What a disappointment. An anticlimax. An underwhelming experience. Visited with family for 2 birthdays. First visit since new ownership. Won’t be returning sadly. Sticky table. Table of 6 put on a table of 12. During the meal a man who was drinking asked if we minded if he sat there… Staff overall lovely but clearly short staffed. Food just ‘ok’. Photos of food look good on social media but lack flavour. No one asked us if the food was ok. Had to ask for more drinks when the plates were being cleared. Is this more of a drinkers pub now? High priced food - had such high expectations. Very disappointed. Family members drove 50 minutes to get there tonight. Embarrassing for us. Should have been so much better.

Have been waiting for this to become as good as it was under previous management but after two indifferent meals on monthly visits my friends and I have changed the venue for our catch ups. Reluctantly have to say that the new ownership has not been a success.

Lovely, attractive cosy pub, which could have been even better had the heating been switched on during a November lunch. However, the wonderful soup helped to warm us up and the chicken caesar salad was delicious, but unfortunately some of the chips were undercooked and the selection of warm breads was missing the 'selection' of warm breads instead replaced with a baguette. We had planned to stay there all day for a 'catch-up' but felt too cold to remain in the building. Despite some negatives, I do feel the place has potential and so I will possibly visit again when I'm next in the area.

Food quality disappointing, pate was poor quality, looked nothing like a good quality pate.. Mains were okish!! Pork dry, overcooked, broccoli very al dente. Steak ok, not a top quality but an expensive item on the menu, chicken pie okish!! Not a great choice of puddings!! Overall it was all ok!! Quality, presentation mediocre, we all felt because of that food very overpriced. Our first foray in eat out to help out and saved quite a bit as our kids now eat adult meals. Sensible covid measures and helpful attentive staff at all tunes. We requested early appetisers and not a problem. Drinks top ups quick too. Good vegetarian choice and special advertised too. Child friendly by booking a table specific to our needs we had used before. As most similar establishments plagued by the entry smoking crowd, hoping total ban one day, despite next to a main road still quiet and a little more room with covid changes.

A friend and I had Sunday lunch there as there was a jazz band playing. We both ordered roast beef. The food arrived within minutes and it was only lukewarm. We would have mentioned it to a member of staff but no-one came to ask us if everything was ok. I eventually managed to find a member of staff who provided extra gravy.. it was by far the hottest thing we had. The food itself was very good (the roast potatoes weren't quite cooked enough), plentiful and tasty so it was a shame it had been sitting around long enough to go cold. Sadly, this seems to be quite common in restaurants these days and this restaurant certainly isn't the only one of which this can be said.

We stayed one nght en route from London to the Lake District in order to break up our journey and spend an evening with friends who live not too far from Penkridge. The staff were friendy enough but it all seemed a little haphazard, and we had to wait some time to check in while the staff served drinks to customers - the hotel catchphrase seems to be "just two minutes.." .We were however annoyed to find that the Littleton doesn't serve breakfast to residents although we were told that the pub opened at 10am for brunch - we hadn't been told this at the time of booking or in advance of our arrival and as we'd planned to hit the road by that time at the latest this wasn't helpful. We could't even get a quick bowl of cornflakes and a coffee to see us on our way.The room was adequate, spacious but in need of a bit of maintenance albeit nothing major. We'd arranged to eat on the evening of our stay at the Littleton with our friends who lived in the area.I can best describe the meal as very disappointing given the positive reviews others have given the restaurant - my own dish, the belly pork (normally my favourite meat), was tasteless, stodgy and looked thrown-together, reminding me of nothing so much as a school dinner from the early Seventies. My wife had the chicken and leek pie pie which she also found very tasteless, and the others weren't impressed.Maybe, and trying to be fair, it was an off-night or maybe the chef was on holday but suffice to say I was astonished when my wife told me she'd noticed a banner proclaiming that the Littleton had in 2019 won an award for its food.

Stayed with my wife, daughter, son in law and two grandchildren. Like all places you get good reviews and bad reviews. Don’t take any notice of the bad reviews which are far outnumbered by the positive for Good reason. The staff were very friendly and accommodating from the moment we arrived. The rooms were very nice, spacious and comfy. Now for the food in the restaurant, I have never eaten pub food like it. To say it was Fantastic would be doing it a disservice. I had pork belly and it was amazing. Due to the current restrictions we were served at our table with drinks and we never had to wait. The y oh no ladies never stopped looking after everyone until the end of the night. Breakfast was wonderful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Littleton Arms and we will definitely use this hotel again when we are in the area.

Planned a trip out to this place. Got there and it wasn’t even open even though Google said it should have been. Disappointed. 😔 (Seems I’m supposed to be a mind reader from the reply). Can only leave a review based off what I find, and when we had traveled especially to visit this place and find it shut how else am I meant to review it. 5 stars? 😆
