It's a nice old pub we went in on a Thursday, early evening had a drink and the drinks are very expensive so won't be going very often. Wasn't many people around mainly members of staff. So you could hear a pin drop. Too expensive for us

A friendly pub, worth a visit if you want a cheeky one & grub (food)... My only complaint was the cost of the Peroni Alcohol Free, £4.80 per bottle... The phase (literally) 'They saw me coming' 😂

Update to 3 1/2 years ago and first time been allowed in since the refurb. Turned up twice in the past to be turned away by door man when a 'Word of mouth' event on. Glad to see part of the car park now under cover, bricked off and used for live events. 4 real ales on from Joules Brewery well kept but dont inspire. Especially when its dearer here than elsewhere and get a plastic flexi glass.

The staff at the crown were friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to ensure that my experience was enjoyable. Whether it was recommending a drink or checking in on how my meal was, the service was top-notch. Food when it comes is great but seems to be focused on drinkers. No table service so you have to queue at the bar for a while to order. Then it doesn’t come out at a similar time. Between 8 of us our food came in the space of 30 minutes meaning some had well finished before others started. Also 30 minutes after ordering we were told that we couldn’t now actually have what we ordered as they had run out. Won’t go back, shame as the food was very good.

Went on Good Friday for a spot of early dinner it was very busy, we had booked a table the night before, yet this had not been organised so a Family was sadly turfed out of their table (where they were enjoying drinks), no sign had been put on table for our reservation until we actually arrived, to make clear to any patrons that it was reserved from a certain time. This happened again to another family sitting nearby enjoying drinks who were asked to vacate their table that they were occupying as it appeared the reservations had not been organised in advance.(they rightly refused but it makes it uncomfortable for both the current table occupiers and the reserver) Menus were tatty and stained and this made the food uninspiring so we ate food from the Pop Up Street Food outlets on the carpark (this was good and a great idea). Bar was unorganised with bar staff not being allocated areas, bar itself was sopping wet (bar mats or trays had not been put out) and when you eventually did get near bar you got wet. Poor choice of Wine also. Medicine Bakery has such a good reputation and is inspiring - this is not, we had planned to make a night of it, but left early as didn`t feel comfortable.

Visited yesterday with friends for Sunday Lunch , we had high hopes as we are regular customers for social events & we’ve all eaten at Medicine which is an excellent bakery. So disappointing that they’ve missed the opportunity to serve quality food . We all ordered the same roast beef with all the trimmings as extra sides. They arrived warm served in mini cast iron pots which were cold ! roast beef was not pink as described on the menu ( mine was actually green on the edges , see pic) we all sent it back for it to return hot as if microwaved, the slices of beef were all the same as if sliced on a machine rather than hand carved , 3 roast potatoes ( 2 were cremated, hidden under a huge caramelised carrot. Our waitress was very short with us & we just wanted to leave. The bill was reduced, which we paid. Shame as this place should be a little gold mine , staff training in hospitality is much needed. Cauliflower cheese was the delicious.

Visited for my mums birthday on a Saturday evening. Unfortunately, we left feeling extremely disappointed and we will not be returning. I did think it would be half decent upon booking as I knew that Medicine were now part owners. Having said that, whenever we have visited Medicine codsall the staff were always very short and abrupt. So it was great to see that at least something was consistent, if it wasn’t the food! The girls in the dining area were unfriendly and it seemed to be a chore when we asked them to put more wood on the fire. First of all, I think if you have booked for food, I think you should receive some sort of ‘table service’ instead of having to fight at the bar to get drinks and then again to order food. Food was very disappointing. Ordered the ‘frickles’ to start. But it just looked as though they had put all the rubbish in the deep fat fryer and served it up on a plate - there were even loose chips thrown in. Garlic pizza was awful - no garlic or garlic butter to be found. You can’t just bake bread and cover it in rocket with the hope customers won’t notice. Clues in the name - garlic bread! Ordered two dirty Asian fries with added chicken. Portions were tiny for £10 - the chicken was hard and overcooked. We also ordered one portion of Chilli fries. Portion was huge - no consistency! Again, loads of dry fries with rubber cheese sauce and a dollop of lukewarm chilli on top. Drinks were okay and the lady behind the bar was very helpful hence the two stars. Sadly, I will not be returning. I think they may have got a little too big for their boots. Taking on a few too many things at once (Birmingham mailbox, Selfridges, joules & the codsall bakery) such a shame as once upon a time it was the ‘place to be’.

Amazing venue run by clowns. A professional establishment should have experienced management and staff but the young (wannabe chav) manager couldn’t organise a child’s party. Rude bar staff and appears to be staff concentrate on the young chavvy locals , maybe family friends, instead of paying decent guests. Would not recommend this place. We visited when it first opened and had a great experience with experienced bar staff and a great manager. It now seems like management and staff are playing at running a restaurant and real ale boozer. The ale wasn’t kept well and not conditioned right, I’m sure Joules would not wznt to put there name snd reputation to this drivel. The manager, Ella, seemed clueless about keeping good ales and beer. If the ‘manager’ didn’t have a clue about cask ales in an ale boozer then time to give the place up to new owners. Rubbish experience, rubbish manager, rubbish food, rubbish ale…..save your money and go to McDonald’s for better service and food

As we were not informed and it was not clear regarding menu options for children, it was lucky we stumbled upon the kids menu that was located at the bar. I visited this place solo the day before going with my family to celebrate a birthday. I was one of the first customers at lunchtime and the beer was indifferent although replaced without argument. Prior to renovation one could get sandwiches or similar at lunchtime no more burger or hot dog was offered I declined. I visited the next night with family to celebrate the birthday. We placed our order and asked for a side of nachos to dip as a starter. Were told that they don't do starters all food is delivered together so didn't order the nachos. Waited sometime for order to arrive and my grandson's wanted something to nibble, my daughter-in-law went to the bar and found neither bar staff or any evidence of crisps or similar so went to the nearby Co-op to purchase crisps. The boys ate the crisps before their pizzas arrived we then waited 5 minutes for the 2 orders of burgers to arrive and a further 10 minutes for the last 2 pizzas to appear. So much for all food is served together! We also had to search for cutlery and napkins ourself and remind the waiting-on staff if they could be found to bring a large jug of iced water. The burgers and pizzas were OK. To sum up if you want to eat reasonable burgers or pizzas with your fingers washed down with so-so beer then have to wipe your greasy fingers on your clothing this is the place for you. That of course is problematic if you come by car as parking is limited and I did not see any designated parking for disabled ot PRM customers. As an advertisement for both Medicine and Joules Brewery this is a failure.

Pizza were minuscule and dry, needed cutting with a hammer and chisel A mix up by the staff over our bill left the waitress chasing us across the road for the extra money, all very confusing and amateur Bouncers on the door overlooking us eating our meal was a bit overwhelming Certainly won't be returning

First time and long awaited visit to Medicine at the Crown in Codsall. Service is a little odd, very quick to take orders for drinks and food and then not seen again with drinks for over 30 mins (we had to ask for our drinks). 2 of us ordered chicken burgers, 1 duck leg confit - duck leg was tasteless and both burgers were raw!!!! Substandard and quite frankly not expected for this type of establishment. Both meals were sent back and management apologised, nearly another 30 mins wait before replacement food arrived. Again, one was undercooked and tasted awful and the other one was covered in a strange white gloopy sauce (was supposed to be Korean bbq). Chips were strange, almost like leftover fries, cold floppy and undercooked. Again, both meals sent back and at this point neither of us wanted to eat anything else. Drinks were offered, again took 30 mins to arrive and 2 of them missing. Really disappointed with our visit, as visited both the wolves town centre branch and codsall bakery many times. Jennifer dealt with our issues and cleared the bill and was very apologetic. Such a shame, as the menu appears lovely on the piece of paper just doesn’t live up to expectations once it’s on the plate! We shan’t visit again, which is a real shame.

Basing my stars from 1 experience on a very busy Friday evening. I felt like I spent my evening alone whilst my partner went off to get the drinks, the queues were very timely at the bar- this really needs to be addressed! We ordered food which took about an hour to arrive. My partner had chicken burger and chips, he said the burger was really nice but the chips were cold and like rubber. I had pizza but had to send it back due to being undercooked dough!! Second attempt was really nice though. They had a live band and the atmosphere was really good. Overall a really good pub with hard working staff that just need to address a few teething issues.

Nice pub decor a bit off the wall which I like but could do with a good clean and too many flies buzzing around for me to have any food. But definitely worth a visit.

I booked a table for my birthday a month or so before the date - Bank holiday Monday. The staff had no copy of the menu for me and it was not on the website. They saw me taking photos of the menu for my family. I booked the table on line and gave my details for the deposit of £5 a head. I tried to call but the number provided was out of action. I returned 2 weeks before my birthday to confirm. They had the number of guests wrong so lucky I checked and they also confirmed that it was for a birthday. When we arrived the items we fancied were not on the menu and there was only 1 dessert. The waitress said more may be sent by the cafe. The food, mainly pizzas was not the best, the sourdough is really hard and difficult to eat. I asked if there were more dessert choices at 730 and was told- in a very blase manner -that the kitchen was closed. This is totally unaccceptable- if we had known about the lack of choice we would have gone elsewhere. To make matters worse 2 service charges were snuck onto the bill totaling 21%! When I called to complain the lady I spoke to was apologetic and returned my service charge. Unfortunately my birthday celebration was completely ruined. The staff had ample opportunity to tell me that there was a limit to the food they would provide but didn't bother.

Visited on a recommendation. The beer courtyard was busy but not packed. I ordered the buttermilk chicken sandwich. The bar staff were polite, but the female member of staff chose to ignore me waiting and served someone who she clearly knew before me. The sandwich arrived with a weird tasting dressing. The chicken itself was a chicken thigh that was tough in the same places and almost pink in others. The dressing was almost non-existent, and who puts gherkins on a chicken sandwich!! However, the waitress who cleared my table - Myah (hope I spelt that correct) was a delight. Warm smile, asked how the food was, and apologised on behalf of the restaurant.

Really nice pub and setting, very nicely done out. Great selection of Joules draught, and decent menu. Personally, the food was good but not great. I had the buttermilk chicken burger which I was expecting to be chicken breast but was some gnarled up bit of chicken that was far smaller than the bun. Fries were disappointingly average too. Decent sized car park to the rear and a nice large beer court.

Was excited to try this after it had changed hands but was sorely disappointed. Service is incredibly poor - with the staff just seeming incredibly disorganised and confused (I would presume due to a lack of training). Some very strange decisions made with putting ketchup in Grolsch style pop - open bottle which, given the viscosity of ketchup resulted in it going all over our table when opened and food that, while ok, wasn't of the kind of standard I would have expected for the price and was oddly inconsistent with the temperature (I had the beef Queso where parts were hot and others tepid). Feels like a venue where someone has had a lot of ideas that look good on paper but don't seem to work in practice. Hopefully it can improve over time.

Visited for lunch. Excellent friendly service. Comfortable setting with a lovely menu. I tried something new off the menu. It was hard to choose only because all the dishes sounded amazing. The food was so tasty and portions were substantial I couldn’t finish it all so was provided with a box to take away what I had left. A great asset to the village we will be returning.

So sad to be writing this... no atmosphere... took ages to get served, and the pub was not busy. Staff need to smile and engage positively. Hubby chose three different ales and none were exceptional. On the upside we were greeted by a smiling gentleman, I think he was greeting the diners... well done that man! We were there for drinks only.

We have been twice now each time there is no one at the bar and it is nearly impossible to get served at the bar . Everyone sitting near us was saying the same. People complaining about poor food. Big groups of young boys. Bouncers...

Lovely place to sit, eat and chill. The new outside area is lovely with plenty of room to sit under cover if the weather turns. We had the lamb flatbread and chicken burger which were so nice. Not your run of the mill pub food. Saw the pizzas coming out and they looked lovely too.
