Great value small plates, friendly staff

We organised a baby shower for our friend at this venue. Everyone was so incredibly accommodating, we were given the vaults section free of charge for 8 of us and 1 lil baby. Really cannot comment more highly on the space we were given and the wonderful staff allowing us to play all our crazy baby shower games (lol). The food was wonderful as always, the sourdough pizzas are to die for. Will definitely return again and AGAIN xxx.

Booked the library rooms for a joint 30th birthday and we were so impressed either venue and the staff. Buffet food was incredible & had compliments from everyone, with the staff even providing take away boxes to make sure none went to waste. Nothing was too much trouble, a perfect place to hold a special occasion and would recommend to anyone! Thank you again :)

We booked for a table of 6 and a baby and we told the team that this was for a small, intimate baby shower and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. They allowed us to decorate and have a little area completely free of charge. The Sunday dinner was also absolutely beautiful.

Popped into The Crown last Sunday on a whim as we were out and fancied some lunch. Safe to say we were SO glad we did! One of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had! Me and my partner both had the chicken and beef dinner with a side of cauliflower cheese (wow…this was delicious!). Neither of us could fault a thing. Everything was fresh, tasty and hot. My 10 month old even shared some with us and thoroughly enjoyed the chicken and roast potatoes especially. With the main course being so lovely, we had to try a dessert too. I had the sticky toffee pudding with custard and my other half had the crumble with custard. Both were just as good at the mains! Everything from start to finish was brilliant: lovely cosy pub, great food and drink and friendly staff. Special shout out to Berat who was just wonderful, taking the time out to chat to us and make a fuss of our little boy. We can’t wait to return!

We held our son’s 18th birthday party here in the library room. The staff were really helpful and friendly, the food great, location and room perfect for a party.

Visited on 18/01/2025 for a family gathering. My son and husband had pizza’s which were fresh and lovely. Bit ‘stingy’ on the toppings but they were nice. I had the steak sandwich which was very poor. It was £12 for the sandwich (just for the sandwich!) and I needed to pay and additional £4 for Aioli and chips. I asked for no Rocket and I literally received 5 pieces of steak slapped between two bits of bread. The sandwich was dry and the chips were okay but the dip was like water. £16 for my meal and I probably would have enjoyed a baguette from Greggs more. Also … the pricing is just too high for the quality you receive. I had a cappuccino and a coke and it cost over £8. There was no serving staff. We were just being served by the guy who was also covering the bar. You would think there would be more staff on Saturdays. Would have much preferred to have stayed at The Station down the road however they unfortunately had the main room booked out from 2pm. Much nicer pubs around for better quality and lower the cost.

I love this pub! Lovely food, brilliant staf, great drink. What now does one need?

First time in this pub, and i must say I was pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty and fresh and a really lovely snack. Be aware that if you have the burger, it doesn't come with a side of fries, so you have to buy those as an extra. Service was okay. My wife and friend stood at the bar waiting to be served and got looked over 3 times by the same bar person. Eventually, one bar member stated that they had been waiting the longest. Would I have a night out in here? Yeah, I would 🫶🏼

Of all the places to eat at in the area, this one looked the nicest on Google maps. Got there and no one to seat us. I asked the bar staff if we can sit anywhere, while pointing in a dining looking area. She said sure. We sat down, beautifully decorated. I went to get some menus, and was told they'd serve us at the table. The items on the menu looked nice. Some time later a different staff member came up to us asking for our reservation name. We hadn't reserved and he told us the whole area was reserved. He pointed at the illegible reservation sign on the table and said we can sit at some other tables, then pointing in some other general direction. I'd have been understanding if he hadn't been so rude about it, commanding us around, repeatedly telling us we can't sit there (it may sound like it but we weren't resisting) while giving the occasional insincere quick 'sorry', staring at us as we were getting up to make sure we were really getting up. We promptly left the place.

Lovely interior, warm fire, good quality food and drink at reasonable prices

We had a 40th birthday party there recently and were in the library, ideal food , and service was good and you are in a separate room .

First time visiting The Crown since it changed hands. Not very impressed at all! 2 of us booked a table for 6.30pm, waited ages at the bar as there was 1 staff member serving a line of guests ordering food. Eventually someone else came and sorted us out. I ordered the broccoli and Stilton mac and cheese. It was nice but could have been a little more cheesy. For the portion size, £9 plus £3.50 for fries was steep. Prior to visiting, I had a look at the menu online. When we got there we were given a reduced menu, specially for Christmas, which was really disappointing. I won’t be returning any time soon.

Booked the library room for a 40th birthday celebration and had a fantastic time! The food was lovely and service exemplary. The room was spacious so everyone could spread out, mingle and children play. Definitely recommend!

Cracking pub decoration feels like a pub should. Sunday lunch was fine. Staff attentive too, cocktails being made.

Always good real ale/beer and a great choice, dog friendly and child friendly pub. Good outdoor space when the weather is nice and lots of alcoves and separate rooms or cosy areas to find an area to suit.

Great food and atmosphere, brilliant use of outdoor space having a lot of open cover feeling spacious but allows you to sit outside no matter the weather.

waited so long to order food and drinks, the food was ok but not much choice, didn't want to wait for the dessert menu though really wanted to try jam doughnut french toast or something like that

Just had buffalo/blue cheese and salt & pepper wings, with a side of frickles, as a take out order... some of the best wings we've has in this country

It's a nice old pub we went in on a Thursday, early evening had a drink and the drinks are very expensive so won't be going very often. Wasn't many people around mainly members of staff. So you could hear a pin drop. Too expensive for us

A friendly pub, worth a visit if you want a cheeky one & grub (food)... My only complaint was the cost of the Peroni Alcohol Free, £4.80 per bottle... The phase (literally) 'They saw me coming' 😂

Update to 3 1/2 years ago and first time been allowed in since the refurb. Turned up twice in the past to be turned away by door man when a 'Word of mouth' event on. Glad to see part of the car park now under cover, bricked off and used for live events. 4 real ales on from Joules Brewery well kept but dont inspire. Especially when its dearer here than elsewhere and get a plastic flexi glass.

Popped in for a pint after the match. Fantastic service,staff very quick to serve as the place was very busy

Went on "wing Wednesday", best chicken wings I have had. Nice pint of Joules ale. Very nice young lady at the bar.

Portion sizes were a little on the small side. A more traditional pub menu would have been more appealing. Packets of snacks, such as salted peanuts, are not sold, cups of snacks are but they ran out!

Screen went down during the Euros final at half time, 100s of people with no way to watch the game from half time. No apology or reparation for a ruined experience and no communication from staff. Will not be visiting again

Omg who were the DJs last night from 8pm?? Absolutely amazing and totally gave the evening class with quality tunes. Probably the best I've ever heard in Codsall!!

Have visited twice over the last month. It’s a great place. Some lovely ales on tap and the food has been really delicious. It became one of my ‘go to’ places after the first visit. We’ll be back.

I recently visited the crown joules and was pleasantly surprised by the great service and delicious food offerings. The staff at the crown were friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to ensure that my experience was enjoyable. Whether it was recommending a drink or checking in on how my meal was, the service was top-notch. Overall, I had a fantastic time and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a laid-back atmosphere, good service, and tasty food. It's a great spot to unwind with friends or family.

We go here once a month for the LIBRARY SESSIONS!!! And my goodness is it a fantastic night. The music and the people are amazing everyone is havibg fun and dancing together, it truly is an incredible night, when you have chance get down to the Crown joules for one of the library sessions events and you won't regret it! It's an amazing night. The pub itself also is lovely and the food looks fantastic, the outdoor area is gorgeous so even outside of the events it is a lovely place to go to!

A massive Thankyou for a really good night. We reserved the Maritime room for my sons 21st birthday celebration.I was really impressed that all the food was brought out when required and was perfect. I could not fault the service and all the staff were polite, efficient and helpful. Thankyou Ella for making my sons 21st birthday celebration special.

Sunday lunch for a family of four birthday meal. Part of meal was hot and other parts cold. I like veg al dente but these were undercooked Shame as heard good reviews but not our experience for quality of food.

A great pub, with a good choice of beers and ales on tap. All staff were very friendly and the overall atmosphere was very welcoming. We didn't eat, but the food reviews are equally as good, so we'll definitely try the food next time.

Food when it comes is great but seems to be focused on drinkers. No table service so you have to queue at the bar for a while to order. Then it doesn’t come out at a similar time. Between 8 of us our food came in the space of 30 minutes meaning some had well finished before others started. Also 30 minutes after ordering we were told that we couldn’t now actually have what we ordered as they had run out. Won’t go back, shame as the food was very good.

Went here for lunch with some work friends. A bit overpriced in my opinion but the food was nice and service was good.

We where party of 10 and and we had amazing time.. the food was fantastic I don’t think we even finish all as it was set menu with mix roast plates and loads of side dishes in middle of table to share. Also shout out for nonalcoholic Prosecco as few of our part members was driving and still wanted to cheers with rest of team. Thank you for having us and we will start planing our next visit. Nice pub in a good location with plenty of parking, drinks very expensive and service generally poor, should be a lot better than it actually is, can't comment on food as haven't eaten there as yet. Overall it's ok that's all.

Went on Good Friday for a spot of early dinner it was very busy, we had booked a table the night before, yet this had not been organised so a Family was sadly turfed out of their table (where they were enjoying drinks), no sign had been put on table for our reservation until we actually arrived, to make clear to any patrons that it was reserved from a certain time. This happened again to another family sitting nearby enjoying drinks who were asked to vacate their table that they were occupying as it appeared the reservations had not been organised in advance.(they rightly refused but it makes it uncomfortable for both the current table occupiers and the reserver) Menus were tatty and stained and this made the food uninspiring so we ate food from the Pop Up Street Food outlets on the carpark (this was good and a great idea). Bar was unorganised with bar staff not being allocated areas, bar itself was sopping wet (bar mats or trays had not been put out) and when you eventually did get near bar you got wet. Poor choice of Wine also. Medicine Bakery has such a good reputation and is inspiring - this is not, we had planned to make a night of it, but left early as didn`t feel comfortable.

I recently went to the Crown for a roast dinner with family and it was hands down the best Sunday lunch out we’ve had in years. The staff were very welcoming and the service was very quick. Can’t recommend enough and will definitely be returning!

This is my third time coming for Sunday lunch and every time has been high quality, fresh food, friendly staff and great atmosphere. This week we had the lamb special and sticky toffee pudding. Left feeling full and satisfied. Really great to see the new management thriving!

Visited yesterday with friends for Sunday Lunch , we had high hopes as we are regular customers for social events & we’ve all eaten at Medicine which is an excellent bakery. So disappointing that they’ve missed the opportunity to serve quality food . We all ordered the same roast beef with all the trimmings as extra sides. They arrived warm served in mini cast iron pots which were cold ! roast beef was not pink as described on the menu ( mine was actually green on the edges , see pic) we all sent it back for it to return hot as if microwaved, the slices of beef were all the same as if sliced on a machine rather than hand carved , 3 roast potatoes ( 2 were cremated, hidden under a huge caramelised carrot. Our waitress was very short with us & we just wanted to leave. The bill was reduced, which we paid. Shame as this place should be a little gold mine , staff training in hospitality is much needed. Cauliflower cheese was the delicious.

£10 for a burger that come with no fries… Not great value for money. Burger was room temp as well. Still hungry. Only positive is that there was a nice dog running round the pub.

Visited for my mums birthday on a Saturday evening. Unfortunately, we left feeling extremely disappointed and we will not be returning. I did think it would be half decent upon booking as I knew that Medicine were now part owners. Having said that, whenever we have visited Medicine codsall the staff were always very short and abrupt. So it was great to see that at least something was consistent, if it wasn’t the food! The girls in the dining area were unfriendly and it seemed to be a chore when we asked them to put more wood on the fire. First of all, I think if you have booked for food, I think you should receive some sort of ‘table service’ instead of having to fight at the bar to get drinks and then again to order food. Food was very disappointing. Ordered the ‘frickles’ to start. But it just looked as though they had put all the rubbish in the deep fat fryer and served it up on a plate - there were even loose chips thrown in. Garlic pizza was awful - no garlic or garlic butter to be found. You can’t just bake bread and cover it in rocket with the hope customers won’t notice. Clues in the name - garlic bread! Ordered two dirty Asian fries with added chicken. Portions were tiny for £10 - the chicken was hard and overcooked. We also ordered one portion of Chilli fries. Portion was huge - no consistency! Again, loads of dry fries with rubber cheese sauce and a dollop of lukewarm chilli on top. Drinks were okay and the lady behind the bar was very helpful hence the two stars. Sadly, I will not be returning. I think they may have got a little too big for their boots. Taking on a few too many things at once (Birmingham mailbox, Selfridges, joules & the codsall bakery) such a shame as once upon a time it was the ‘place to be’.

Great Sunday dinner! Great beer. I had the veggie 🥦 option and my other half chicken 🍗, both lovely.

£5 for a pint of Carling? Disgusting, won't be going back there anytime soon! It's just a pub pretending to be an expensive restaurant, overcharging for mediocre food, don't think it will last as there is a lot of competition within half a mile of this pub!

Called in as been meaning to for a while the pub is nicely set out lots of room beer very good some good IPA’s food well it’s something to do with the cafe down the road which Iam not a fan of written a review on that some time ago mainly around the cleanliness of the place not a huge choice burgers various kinds pizzas and the day we were there specials of chicken wings various flavours we had a fish burger and beef it was ok hope they are more cleanliness focused a shame really an opportunity to do something different with the catering on site to compliment the beer.

Francesca and her staff laid on an amazing spread for my father in laws wake. They gave us so much time beforehand whenever we wanted to know things when they were constantly reassuring, it all went so smoothly even catering for one of our guests who needed gluten free. We had the Library Room which was perfect with its own bar and we were allowed to use our own music. Thanks so much everyone, you really helped the day end nicely and all commented on how nice it all was. The cakes were sublime and the savouries sooo delicious.

Came for a family lunch, gotta say it was beautiful, staff were so friendly and helpful, compliments to the chef Rob for making the food the most delicious Sunday roast I've had for a long time. My hubby had the doughnut sandwich too for pudding which he said was one of the best he'd ever had, and he's a big desert person, well done to the chef and his team 👏 👍

Just had Sunday dinner at The Crown in Codsall the food was great the staff were ok the atmosphere was poor children running round the restaurant area very noisy not a cheap place to eat wouldn't recommend going on a Sunday for a quiet meal not what I expected.

WE held my Fathers wake here on 12th Feb 2024, and it could not have been better , food was great , room at back was great and staff superb, highly recommend!

Dwight on the door was one of the kindest most helpful Dorman I have ever been exposed to. We had a terrible experience with an Uber driver. He was very offensive and refused our trip and left us in the rain. Dwight supported us throughout and made sure we were safe before we got in a second Uber vehicle. Dwight deserves a pay rise he is credit to the venue! 👑 apart form glorious Dwight, the cocktails were fantastic too.

Beer in poor condition. I visit quite a few Joules pubs - nearly all are excellent. This one must be embarrassing for the brewery who have worked the Oracle to get where they are today. Just shocking really.

It's about £40-50 for two people definitely worth while the staff are so helpful and caring and check on you wether your on your mains or puddings the food is really good wish their was a few more dessert options though serving is spot on in my opinion and the atmosphere is relaxing and calming

My local. Best its been in my lifetime since the recent improvements. Great food. Good drinks. Good service. Nice atmosphere and the improved outdoor area is a real plus. Always a good place to go for a couple or a few and for something to eat.

Amazing venue run by clowns. A professional establishment should have experienced management and staff but the young (wannabe chav) manager couldn’t organise a child’s party. Rude bar staff and appears to be staff concentrate on the young chavvy locals , maybe family friends, instead of paying decent guests. Would not recommend this place. We visited when it first opened and had a great experience with experienced bar staff and a great manager. It now seems like management and staff are playing at running a restaurant and real ale boozer. The ale wasn’t kept well and not conditioned right, I’m sure Joules would not wznt to put there name snd reputation to this drivel. The manager, Ella, seemed clueless about keeping good ales and beer. If the ‘manager’ didn’t have a clue about cask ales in an ale boozer then time to give the place up to new owners. Rubbish experience, rubbish manager, rubbish food, rubbish ale…..save your money and go to McDonald’s for better service and food

We had the room at the back of the Crown for a wake. Buffet was amazing. Staff very efficient and friendly. We will definitely be back to try the food in the bar. Thank you Francesca and staff

Went for my bro in laws 50th! Really nice place, good atmosphere, and really good local beer 🍺 Big pub nicely decorated and really nice friendly people. Well worth a visit if your around that way. Food was really good too. I tried the Vegan hotdog, that was bangin, and there were a few more vegan options. All food looked great!!! 👌

We booked the library room for a family celebration. Three of us arrived 30 mins early to decorate the room and were welcomed with a lovely coffee and the beautiful roaring fire. We had ordered the buffet which offered a great selections of items and was fabulously presented. Everyone commented on the quality of the food and there was loads.....so much so our guests were taking home food boxes which they kindly provided us with. With many small children having the room to ourselves was tremendous I would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely revenue for a party!!

It’s nice inside and the potential is there for it to be really good. Just a shame about the food and service. We had a table of 5, drinks orders were extremely slow, and food was not great. I had the duck, was £18 for a dry warm-ish plain duck leg, slaw, and fries, all very bland so don’t recommend the duck. Final bill was very expensive and didn’t feel it was worth it. Also they required a deposit on booking and when I called in advance to reduce the party size they said they should charge me but they’d let me off! It’s just a pub.. definitely put me off going back.

Extremely disappointed that my burger came out raw. I only noticed after eating half of it to see the other patty bright pink, we sent both burgers back and the chef seemed to admit it was below standard. We were offered another burger or something else but completely off our food now and left feeling sick - anticipating getting sick - and frustrated. Won’t be returning to any medicine branded establishment again.

Recently refurbished, looks very nice , not too busy on a Tuesday night, but enough for a good atmosphere.

Unfortunately not a great visit. Service was good from the one worker on her own however the food was terrible. Ordered the Medicine burger and it came out Mooing. The Burger was undercooked and still pink and bloody throughout. The server took the food back and returned with “The Chef said it’s his fault and it’s still raw and if we wanted him to make a new one” Was too off put due to this so left with empty stomachs.

New food menus was lovely, but had run out of sourdough (table was 7.30pm) which was a shame with them being renowned for their bakery, really wanted tbs bread, lots of space and areas to drink/ eat in. Outside area is great since the refurb. When you arrive there is a table to greet you with a laptop but no one there, it’s confusing and then the bar staff refer you to the front table for your booking, would be good to either have someone permanently on the front to greet you or just have a sign to say order/ greet at the bar.

I tried the buffalo cauliflower wings, they were cold and very spicy but different! I had a bit of the margarita pizza and enjoyed it.

This was the first time going to the crown since the refurbishment. My partner and myself only went for a couple of drinks. We had one drink and left. The bar had spilt drinks all over it. None of the staff seemed concerned about this. We got our drinks and decided to sit outside as it was a bit of a miserable atmosphere inside. They have done a good job to the rear of the pub (looks nice) However that's the only, one good point. We decided to leave after our first drink and went opposite to the love and liquor. Much better atmosphere and drinks were cheaper too. I don't think I will be in a hurry to return.

Went on weekend with family for lunch. Got greeted and was told that could sit anywhere apart from one table that was booked but when we went to sit in one area, we were told we could not as the tables were reserved! Despite being told it was "order at the bar", the table that was reserved recieved table service throughout their meal. As we were not informed and it was not clear regarding menu options for children, it was lucky we stumbled upon the kids menu that was located at the bar. The food was enjoyable enough but the loaded fries we ordered were below par. Lacked flavour and we both agreed that the they tasted like cheap oven fries. Disappointing experience considering how much we usually enjoy visiting medicine bakeries and anticipated visiting the crown for the first time.

Didn't try the food, as we did not know about the strict booking process. Interior setting was open plan with plenty of seating.
