Ordered one latte one tea and toasted tea cake for which we waited 20 minutes. Coffee was fine, tea was lukewarm and the tea cake was hard and dry. We complained and sent teacake back but didn't even receive an apology. Won't be returning.

We visited after being recommended by a friend, we however will not be recommending. We attended with my 2 1/2 year old and we all left with a bitter taste in our mouths and this wasn’t just the coffee. The lack of food options for children was just the start of our disappointing visit. We ordered two paninis and a toasted sandwich with 2 drinks and 2 sides of chips, costing a total of over £25 which given the contents of the sandwiches we found appalling. The chilli chicken panini had 6 small peices of ready cooked watery & rubbery chicken in, the bacon Brie and cranberry might of well just been a jam sandwich with one piece of bacon broken into bits and minimal amount of Brie. The side salads had lettuce which was old and brown at the edges, and over ripe /borderline rotten tomatoes on and a grate of carrot, the side portion of 15 chips was also very disappointing for the price we paid. My daughter appeared to enjoy the small amount of tuna toastie that she had however when we finnished hers off, the tuna had a chemical taste to it. Very unimpressed!!! We felt so uncomfortable during our visit as there hardly any other customers, we felt we couldn’t complain in person, we just ate our food and left. We will not be back and won’t be recommending to anyone else 0/10.

No warm welcome, in fact miserable staff - as though it was a problem having customers, even though only 2 tables used. Food brought quite promptly and was acceptable. Requested cold water to cool a baby’s bottle which was warm so had to return to counter and ask for cold water - again staff not happy. Later asked for small amount of boiled water to soak cotton wool to use on baby’s eye - to be disguarded after soaked and used once due to cross infection as anyone would realise. Approached and asked for water back as staff member “been told off for giving you this in a cup”. Therefore no hot water. Owner came much later - explained health and hygiene/trading standards laws so couldn’t give in a cup. Actually I say explained - it was more a telling off/talked down to us/big attitude problem which I have encountered on numerous occasions before. Customer service/attitude very poor - management more interested in talking ‘new colours’ to another client rather than addressing us first rather than her member of staff. Put up with bad attitude many times and will grace Marks and Spencer’s or Mothercare in future fir friendly service and attitude to customers.

I have been visiting here for a longtime and have enjoyed beautiful home cooked food. However earlier this month we visited and things had dramatically gone down hill. The tables were dirty and had leftovers from previous customers and my coffee came out in a dirty cup with lipstick on it and there was no cutlery. The staff were reluctant to give me a fresh cup of coffee and just offered to pour my coffee into another cup. After 5 minutes I was eventually given a fresh cup of coffee. We though it was just a busy one off day. However, we went back the week after. The place was the same. We ordered food and coffees and when it came out I felt sick. I had a mouldy roll the meat inside with gravy was cold and the cutlery that was available had food debris on every single piece. Other customers were complaining and the owner came out and said just wipe it with your napkin and it will be ok. Those customers amongst others walked out as did we. There were 4 in our group and we are disgusted by the lack of hygiene and the fact the owner and staff didn’t seem to care. And no offer of a refund was given. We will not visit again in the fear of becoming ill and the place not being up to scratch hygienically. Such a shame as it used to get great, clean and beautiful food.

Didn’t realise we had to book via groupon as I was trying to ring them, with no reply as they have changed their number. Hard place to find. It’s within country Baskets. The food was very fresh and no complaints. Nice pot of tea. It is a cafe, no fancy table cloths. Ideal to meet up for a quick bite to eat.

Our visit was primarily to shop in Country Baskets (coffee shop contained within this building.) Sorry to say the cafe was very disappointing. Coffee was poor and scone very small and tasteless. To make matters worse the cost was £9.40 for 2 coffees and 2 scones. I couldn't believe this, especially since we were less than impressed with the fayre. This cafe does not represent value for money.

Surroundings here are always nice and the staff are friendly and accommodating, I brought my afternoon tea forward only giving them 20 mins notice and they didn’t mind at all. Food tasted lovely and fresh. In the afternoon tea we had 3 slices of sandwiches, a salad garnish, a scone with butter, jam and cream and 2 other cakes. Plus a choice of tea and coffee. I managed to obtain a deal through Groupon for this costing £12 for two people making it well worth the money. Definitely do this again.

Was treat to afternoon tea recently by a friend who had got a Groupon deal. Going to try a new style of reviewing, so I'm going to go with a list of positives first. It's very easy to find, and ample parking. The sandwiches were lovely, and the bread was really fresh The staff were friendly. Negatives now are as follows. Place could do with a major overhaul/ clean/revamp Scones were fairly stale Cakes were small butterfly cakes, not the squishy squashy type normally associated with afternoon tea We got seated ok, however although we had booked in for a particular time, they didn't reserve a table for us, so if all the tables were taken unsure where we would sit. There's not just this place that left me underwhelmed, and just because you advertise something as afternoon tea, doesn't mean that you should do. If you go expecting white linen napkins, fine China etc, don't bother, however if you want a quick lunch, then this place would be great. It's a fair price to pay for a few butties, a stale scone, and a butterfly cake, but it's allowing a fair bit of poetic licence to call it afternoon tea. The regular meal, snacks and cakes looked lovely, so perhaps we would have been better trying them. Afternoon tea is all the rage, and has been for a couple of years now, along with the craft ale and gin craze, but if you want something slightly more in keeping with tradition, then best look elsewhere.

Took my mother for a snack before browsing in Country Baskets, what a waste of money. My toasted tea cake was fine. Tea was lovely and hot. Mother has quiche and wedges..... disgusting, pastry undercooked and wedges looked as if they had been passed over the oil. Pasty and greasy. Really should have sent it back but cannot stand the hassle you get by complaining ( but not just in here) Used to love coming here but will certainly not be back.

Our afternoon tea was noticeably different to other customers who hadn't paid by Groupon voucher. Drinks and finger sandwiches were fine but the cheese scones and cakes were cheap dry and inedible. Other customers who paid on the day had a completely different tea with cream scones and lovely looking slices of cake! Definitely won't be returning or recommending to anyone.

Visited country baskets today and decided to stay for coffee and cake in the cafe. Coffee was pleasant, scone was served warm with butter and marmalade (?!) lemon and coconut slice was ok. The apple slice that we ordered however was served cold and on closer inspection was mouldy on the base. We returned this to the counter where the lady offered an alternative product and a refund on the apple slice only. The staff were pleasant however it has put us off a return visit.

Bought a Groupon fit a friend and went along with an open mind given the mixed reviews. Booked in advance and made welcome on walking in. Owner and staff were truly delightful and the service fabulous! Huge pot of piping hot tea and this was refilled at no extra cost. Great selection of sandwiches cakes and scones. Far too much food for 2 people so we asked to take the remaining cakes home to enjoy later which was no trouble to box up. Totally separate company to country baskets. The only complaint if you can even call it that, there needs to be a bigger seating area as it was very popular looking forward to a return visit!

I went here yesterday. Card machine was down so couldn't sample the cake which was a pity. The shop is out of the way and needs to be sign posted better. For all those wishing to visit in the future, the shop is on the country baskets building on the ground floor. The setting is lovely but I think it would benefit from some background music. I got an egg mayo and salad sandwich with tea which cost me £5.80, pricey, and I wasn't really impressed. It was basically a bun, some lettuce and egg...nothing fancy. No side salad. No fork or knife with napkin given.I wished it was jst a little bit better, more umph Because it has the potential to be!staff were friendly though ;credit where credit is due. Considering I travelled a bit to sample some cake etc and then couldn't, I was disappointed. Ok. Maybe it would be better another day.

I had been advised to pay a visit to The Little Coffee house and had to go to team valley thought why not give it a go.I did find it a little hard to find but got there in the end. I arrived at about 3.45pm thinking this would be ok as it closes at 5pm however I was wrong. The server informed me that I could only have cake & coffee as they were closing. I opted for a latte and a tray bake, the slice was good a raspberry shortbread & my coffee was so hot it burnt my mouth. I would like to think at a different time it could have been a great experience but for me today this was not the case so therefore I was left disappointed.

On first view the coffee shop and food look very appealing and very well presented. But thats where it ends. The jacket potato i had was stone cold, the cheap marg spread they put in the middle didnt even melt. Portion size was good and had it been hot it would have been nice but the fact it was so cold made me wonder how fresh it was. The rest of the family were also left rather disappointed overall with their food and drinks. Glass and cutlery not clean. Visited here to try the afternoon tea after seeing it advertised in a local food magazine. The location is inside a business premises on the Team Valley trading estate in Gateshead. It was pleasant enough and the service good but no way worth the £12.95 a head charge for a few small sandwiches (no choice was offered) a scone and a few small cakes. I have had a superb afternoon tea recently in a couple of other places such as The Bank on Low Fell at a cheaper price AND far higher quality. Wouldn't recommend.

Please do not go to the little coffee house if you are looking forward to a lovely afternoon tea ! I have never complained yet about any eatery I have been to but this was abysmal ! I had bought a deal from Groupon and was much looking forward to a choice of fresh sandwiches, a choice of cream cakes and a nice cup of coffee. Despite being the only 2 people in the place we were ignored by staff initially when we walked in. The table we sat down at was dirty with a plastic empty bottle on the floor. Coffee arrived already in the cup minus any cream. And the sandwiches .... what can I say. The bread which was economy white or brown was stale. There was no discussion as to which filling we wanted. There were two choices, coleslaw with a bit of cheddar or tuna( with a mayonnaise taste) and sweetcorn. The two scones were plain with neither fruit, currants or anything else in them. No butter but did get a bit of cream substitute and some jam. The two cakes were fairy cakes with bit of synthetic cream on them. At no point did any of the staff ask if everything was okay which was probably just as well. Oh and there was no cutlery provided , you had to get up and walk around to find some. Dalylight robbery. Please be warned.
