The Lion at Malpas in Cheshire West and Chester

Sunday Lunch Roast Beef (pink or well done) with all the classic trimmings - delicious! The Chicken in the Basket is excellent too! The menu has something for everyone. Recommend you book because it gets busy with families & friends meeting to eat.

Stayed here for the night before my daughter’s wedding.. We stayed in the bakery which was STUNNING!! food was fab too as was the staff and music low but enough to hear and enjoy. Would highly recommend

This is my local and I love it! The food was good (as always) and the food is excellent! We were very well looked after by Hope, she even sang happy birthday to me! Such a fabulous night!

Fantastic village centre pub with great accommodation options. Excellent menu and ambiance. Friendly staff. High quality meal and also cooked breakfast.accommodation in small apartments and chalets. Pricey, but very good.

2nd visit to the Lion at Malpas Fabulous Food nothing too much trouble . Sunday lunch for 11 chicken/beef nut roast / fish and chips plenty of vegetables topped off by fabulous desserts brownie’s with amazing Cheshire ice cream .

Love this place great staff and atmosphere. Had a couple of meals recently the last one being very disappointing!! Fishing for the fish in the fish pie !!!!! Topping of lovely mash and crispy topping of cheese very hot great . Just didn’t find hardly any fish at all hunting around in my mash think mine must have been the last one they made and ran out of the fish 🤪. Won’t stop me going back though but not for the fish pie sorry .

Tastefully renovated, we had a very pleasant experience when visiting for a few drinks.

Went here New years eve with some friends! Had a table booked for 8.30. We were greeted very quickly and sat down to our table straight away. The place was so busy, a brilliant atmosphere! The service was spot on. We all had mains and some dessert! The food, as normal was perfect! And the service!! Thanks guys!!

Food was good. Service awful. Went about 6months ago service was poor thought we would try again. Poor service again. Had to keep finding staff to ask for things waited so long for ketchup we had finished food. Toast came after breakfast, won’t be returning. Shame as food was good and the pub is lovely decorated. Just need to get their act together .

Our first time at The lion was rather disappointing. Its a nice place sure enough but the meal we had was rather underwhelming. Roast turkey with all the trimmings. No carrots or mash potatoes, 2 miniature parsnips , 3 Roast potatoes that had that yesterday taste about them, stuffing and a pig in blanket , although there was a good portion of turkey on our lukewarm plates. Left feeling still hungry and we've come home for a snack to eat. A hefty price for such small portions.

We were attending a family wedding nearby and booked 4 rooms. We arrived on a wintry afternoon and the welcome was warm and friendly. The Christmas decorations and the real fires were heartwarming. There was a very pleasant atmosphere in the pub and we all enjoyed an early evening drink followed by a delicious meal. All staff were very pleasant and the service was good. Our rooms were stylishly decorated and furnished and very comfortable. The family dog also enjoyed the attention from many of the staff. Everything was perfect. Thank you everyone at The Lion. We are already talking about making this an annual family gathering now that we are dotted all over the country. It felt like home (for the weekend at least).

Korean burger with kimchi ketchup- delightful, Sunday roast- amaizing, very pleasent and fast service. One of the best pub for Sunday diner with family in the area.

We’ve just come back from back from a Birthday night away. We were very pleasantly surprised, the staff were welcoming, friendly and very accommodating. We stayed the night in the Pickering room. The bed was soooo comfy, heated bathroom floor, nice and clean. Tea, coffee, water and hot chocolate and lots of snacks on arrival. We had food in the restaurant that evening which was impeccable, the service was next to non and reasonably priced. The next morning we had breakfast which was included in the room price great selection and delicious coffee. If you are in the area I would recommend staying here good value for money.

I’d heard good things about this place and was very disappointed with my visit. The staff were rude and it was near impossible to get their attention to be served. After a long wait for the food and drinks, the food was below average. Definitely not what I expected from here after the things I had heard. All in all, very disappointing! And I won’t be returning.

Very nice meal. Loads of good choices on the menu. I’m not keen on service charges automatically being added but the service was fantastic so didn’t mind paying it. :-)

On a rare opportunity to spend some time with my family I decided to treat my sister and her kids to a meal at the Lion. We went for Sunday lunch and I have to say it was a great decision! I opted for the roast pork, which was stuffed with sage, onions and apple, and wrapped in delicious crackling, my sister had the roast beef, which she assured me was delicious as well. The children were well catered for with an extensive kids menu. We went for the tart tatin dessert to share, this was more than enough for the four of us, and very reasonably priced. The menu provided lots of other tempting options as well, with a great offer on a nibble sharing board , which we will definitely be back to try! We were very well looked after throughout our visit, good vibe and lots of happy customers, we will definitely be back!
