The Linney in Torbay

Excellent food and service, we had a great family birthday lunch. nothing was too much trouble. Great atmosphere and well trained staff. The country location enhances the dinning experience.

Excellent restaurant , second time of visiting. It did not disappoint. We all enjoyed our meal. The service is great, very efficient and friendly staff.

Fab Sunday lunch for a special family birthday. The staff were attentive and service was excellent nothing was too much trouble. Lovely atmosphere and the food, as always, was wonderful and great value. Love eating here especially for special family occasions and would highly recommend.

Absolutely terrible attitude of waiter who showed us to our table only for us to be outrun by another couple who blatantly sat there whilst we were en route. Waiter didn’t care and sat us at a table near the door instead when I’d specifically asked for a quiet table when I booked months before. When we asked to sit elsewhere and he said if we didn’t like it we could leave! We had no choice but to stay as we’d arrived by taxi, it was Saturday night so unlikely to get a booking anywhere else at short notice and it was a birthday celebration, and he knew it. Cocky, arrogant, disgraceful, no customer service, obviously this behaviour is condoned by management who, from reading previous reviews now, are just as bad! Wish I’d read the bad reviews as well as the good before booking! Food was mediocre and overpriced. A matter of time before this place folds, as obviously relying on elderly regulars. Don’t waste your time or money - go to the Barn Owl instead who know what hospitality is.

The Linney is usually great but last night abysmal. 20 minutes after ordering we were told one of our orders was off the menu. So one meal re-ordered. 25 minutes later we were told another 2 of our 4 orders was off the menu! So 45 minutes after ordering nothing started for us in the kitchen. We had arrived at 7.20 and food arrived 9.15. Food was fine but by this time the evening was ruined. All this plus 2 power cuts. A memorable evening for the wrong reasons. Sometimes it happens that a meal ordered is no longer available but why would it take so long to tell us this?

Booked in advance for 5 adults for Sunday evening. One of our party is 92 and has mobility issues. From the moment we arrived the staff were considerate and very helpful in getting us to our table. Lovely surroundings and good atmosphere. The restaurant was busy and the staff were very busy but so friendly and welcoming. All the food we ordered came in reasonable times. Food and plates were hot. Quality of the meat and veg were excellent ( 4 roasts and 1 curry) and there was more than enough for us all. Again when leaving staff were so helpful. Thank you for a lovely evening.

The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. My only issue was the price for a 2 course Sunday lunch. There were 4 of us and we had 2 standard Sunday lunches and 2 dishes off the main menu. 3 of us had a pudding. We shared 1 bottle of their house red wine at £27 per bottle and a bottle of sparkling water. We were astounded to get a bill for £166 plus 10% tip, making this the most expensive Sunday lunch in our history! All the Puddings were £9.00 and so were most of the starters which we didn't have. We couldn't fault the food but for a pub the prices were upmarket restaurant prices. We went to a fish restaurant which is in the Michelin guide a few days before and had three courses each . The restaurant and food were again excellent but the cost of the food at the Linney was the same price as the fish restaurant in the Michelin guide! The Linney was packed as it was fathers day and all the tables were very close together and we were sat right next to the bar. Even though we all enjoyed our meals we would have to think twice before going there again because of the extortionate price of the food.

A warm welcome as soon as we walked in set the tone for an excellent evening. It was Saturday night and every table was occupied but the waiting and kitchen staff coped admirably. The food is always good at the Linney. The attentive (but not over-intrusive) service, as well as the restaurant’s fair pricing policy make for a consistently rewarding experience

Rude; we were shown to our table which they had given away to another couple, they then took us to a make shift table which was crammed into a busy walk way near the main entrance ; we asked to be seated elsewhere as would not be able to enjoy our meal sat there, we were then subjected to the rudest waiter I have ever encountered, he told us if we don’t like it we can leave; he continued with his rudeness and I regret staying; only reason we did was our taxi had left and we were miles away from home, worse dining experience of my long life

Took my parents there for Easter Sunday, and we all had starter's and Roast Lamd. The food was the best I have had in a long time. Staff and service were excellent too.

Finally we got to this amazing pub! One of the best meals we have had out in a while Food, service and atmosphere were all EXCELLENT We will certainly be back to this very special place and wish we had visited it sooner!

The second time we have been here as a large work group. Service is first class and brilliant being able to be seated in the upstairs dining area which is more private. Food is excellent, generous portions and lots of choice. Despite being a random Thursday in February the restaurant was packed, a good sign! Would fully recommend The Linny and will definitely be back.

We came to the Linny for the first time last Sunday and were not disappointed. The service was excellent and attentive. The roasted pork was fabulous, all vegetables were cooked to our liking ( a first for me ). Perfectly cooked food we can’t wait to return. Many thanks to all the staff there.

A party of 13 booked to celebrate a friend’s big birthday. We were seated in the private room upstairs, which was perfect for our group. The Linny was full but this did not hinder the fantastic service or food - all our meals arrived together, plenty of offers to refill drinks, table cleared timely, some joking with the lovely people serving, food was fabulous -as always which is why this is our No 1 place of choice, whether just for 2 of us or a larger party.
