Fresh food....cooked to order. The wait is a little longer than other places nearby .....but the quality and freshness of the food is WELL worth the wait. Fantastic service too and in a beautiful location. Cannot recommend enough. Best place in the area....by far.

Lovely place, lovely food and people

Looking to have a breakfast on the way home from a 4 day trip to Bala we stumbled upon this quaint dog friendly pub where breakfast was advertised A very warm welcome was gratefully received and we placed our order.We played a few games of connect 4 & some darts while waiting but the food when it arrived was hot & delicious. All local produce & service with a smile plus lots of tea coffee & toast with proper butter followed our well cooked tasty breakfasts. A free sausage for each of our dogs was a lovely touch Definitely recommended for travellers looking for a great breakfast reasonably priced

We stayed overnight in our motorhome. Chris, the publican, couldn't have been more welcoming. The food was very reasonably priced, large portions and washed down with delicious Guinness/San Miguel, good background music too! We had a pretty level spot in the car park (no need for chocks) and a great night's sleep followed by superb coffee and a bacon bap in the pub. So much nicer than a campsite! Thank you Chris, we will spread the word 🙂

I posted that I had a glorious breakfast there and said I would return there for another meal admittedly the service was slow that was because the Sunday before bank holiday and it was absolutely heaving but I do find the comment previously posted unfair because it sounds like a witch hunt but still maintain a lovely quirky place with glorious food.

Lovely place, the food was delicious!

Sadly I write this review. From reviews, we decided to take a drive to visit for food and drinks. Upon arrival, the bar was empty, we waited a while before somebody came out. We got drinks served although queues behind us had formed and service was slow. We sat outside and ordered food. The food took nearly an hour to come. When it did come, the steak sandwich was beyond well done, the chips were meant to be salt and pepper and weren’t, just normal chips and the salad was something out of a tin from the looks. The shepherds pie was undercooked, mashed potato on top was all mushy, the morrocan prawns were lukewarm and the Yorkshire pudding meal wasn’t pleasant. We had to go inside to get cutlery and salt and pepper from the side because none came. No sauces etc were offered so I went back inside. I asked the waitress and she told me I had to wait at the bar. A further 5 minutes passed of waiting and the lady behind the bar said ‘is there a problem?’ I said I’d like some sauce and my meal is just normal chips and not salt and pepper like I ordered and I was disappointed after waiting nearly an hour. She said ‘we were told there was a wait when ordering’ I said I was told no such thing and she turned her back on me. By this point I’d just had enough. The food wasn’t good enough, the service was poor despite the place being quiet, no apology, no basic cutlery and offerings provided. She made a point of saying her daughter was meant to be in work and couldn’t - if you’re short staffed, don’t keep taking people’s money, close the kitchen. We won’t be making the effort to go back and everybody else in there at the time we’re also very frustrated and disappointed.

My faith in the British breakfast has finally been restored finally a chef cooked breakfast. Called in with my family 8'o clock this morning as there was no where to eat and was amazed the fried and gammon potato and I was pleasantly surprised by the fried potato with gammon and I've never tasted something so good and have been assured all home cooked.

Excellent food, relaxing atmosphere and wonderful hosts, many thanks Chris and team. We will be back soon hopefully have music evening again.

Sought refuge here whilst on holiday in the area and boy did they provide it. They were just lovely and best of all not only are they dog friendly they genuinely welcomed mine. The chef, having first admired him, even brought him a bit roast chicken from the kitchen. A warm fire, good food and excellent people there was nothing not to like.

The staff were welcoming and friendly and helpful when ordering food. When the food came, the plates were dirty, you could feel old food on the underside of the plates, because of the colour of the plates, you couldn't actually see it but it was there, my daughters plate had a dried piece of old cabbage on it and then she found a piece of metal scouring pad in her gravy. I can see this place has good reviews so maybe we caught them on a bad day or maybe the dishwasher had broken or something, the glasses were also dirty. We should have complained at the time really but they had been so helpful we didn't like to make a scene. Unfortunately, we will never go back there.

We very much enjoyed our short stay here. Fresh and pleasant countryside pub decor along with the food which was freshly prepared to order. Had a small selection of different drinks to quench most thirsts. Happy to recommend and return. Loved that some games were provided to keep the kids happy, thanks.

Visited after our day trip to pistyll rhaeadr waterfall, looking for a roast dinner. The service was so friendly personal and welcome, the food was outstanding, (we both had Sunday roasts) and the atmosphere was warm and cosy, lovely country pub decor. Couldn’t fault it and all very good value for money too. Will definitely be back when we’re in the area.

I met up with my sister and a friend for lunch here a couple of weeks ago. We had a truly spectacular meal, I have to say! The new owner that has taken over recently, Chris, is both an excellent chef and host. The food was all fresh, tasty and beautifully cooked to perfection. The place is beautifully decorated, and we sat by a cosy log fire. There's an exciting menu, with plenty of fish/veggie meal choices too. I went with a light meal of mushrooms in garlic & white wine sauce, with bread and fresh salad. Beautiful flavours, & Chris kindly shared some of his culinary secrets for mushrooms, too. My sis & friend both had enormous steaks & veg, and we finished off with some excellent cake and coffee. I had my two dogs with me, and Chris came out and handfed them some steak too, so we all left with full bellies and big smiles! I will absolutely be back, really impressed.

Lovely dinner at The Lime Kiln tonight. Stumbled across this pub as we couldn’t find anything open and serving food and we were not disappointed. Amazing service from Chris and his gorgeous dog Marmalade, wonderful food and very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back! Also, great to know of a local cosy pub that is open on Sunday evenings!! Thanks Chris, see you next time.

Wonderful Pub, great food and great staff. Such a nice chill atmosphere felt extremely welcomed and comfortable for the minute we walked in. We visited 2 days on the bounce to this lovely pub. Great value for money and the food was fabulous, all homemade. Lots of things for 3 year old to keep her occupied like lego, jenga ect. Definitely pop in if you're passing.

Was very quiet when we went ( a saturday night) but the pub has a lovely cosy atmosphere. The food took a while to come out but was tasty and its all reasonably priced. Friendly laid back vibe. I would go back again. A great place for a pint by the fire or an enjoyable meal.

Myself and my partner went for a meal at the lime kiln 2 weeks ago on a Friday. My partner is a very fussy eater but he said the food was outstanding he had steak he said it was beautiful. I had a tofu curry and it was stunning. This is proper fresh home cooked food , with soul. The prices are so reasonable just simply lovely well done lime kiln your efforts will pay off

Lovely quiet pub. Very nice personal service from friendly staff. Food was exceptional. The sirloin steak was one of the best I’ve had, it came with home made onion rings and chips that were incredible. My other half had the smash burger, which they really enjoyed along with the side salad containing apples and strawberries, which worked amazingly well. We would highly recommend stopping off here for a meal on your way through.

Fantastic!!! Visiting the area for New year. Lovely pub and dog friendly so pooch came along too! Food was amazing. Had a 3 course meal including a roast and was all fresh home cooked food. The price for the amount of food we had was fantastic with great service. Absolutely stuffed and has a great time. Is definitely worth a travel to go!!

Was very impressed. Popped in for lunch. The Scampi with homemade batter was the best I've had especially with a side dish of curry. The wife had fish and chips and the daughter had a pork thai burger with fries. All very reasonably priced. We will deffo eat here again, will try the steak next time

A gem of a pub! We were looking for somewhere to eat on our journey home from Snowdonia and came across this place - so glad we did! Had a lovely Sunday roast which was a lovely end to our trip. Staff were very friendly and helpful, food was delicious! If we lived in the area we'd make this a local. :)

Slow food delivery. No atmosphere. Disappointed.

I'm from manchester and went in for a bite to eat.. must admit that I was lucky to come across such a nice, clean place with top quality steak. The owner was very pleasant and happy that we were from Manchester, I was offered free drinks with my food. Great value for quality home cooked food.

Just had an amazing roast beef lunch at The Lime Kiln. One of the best roast dinners we’ve had in a long time! The beef was so tender and it came with a great selection of vegetables and loads of them. The gravy was excellent as was the Yorkshire pudding. Can’t recommend this place highly enough and apparently they serve roasts ‘till 5pm if you book ahead.

A nice choice on the menu. But unfortunately execution was well under par. We were informed that they would be a half an hour wait for food as the chef was indisposed. We did wait 50 minutes and when the food arrived it was of a very poor standard. We have to say the chef didn’t cook. The owner should have simply said that she’s not a chef and indeed can’t cook. She should’ve been honest and offered us sandwiches The rump steak was very overcooked the chips with the burger were also over fried and the worst of all was the prawn dish which had no resemblance to description on the menu. We were asked whether we enjoyed the food, but embarrassment stopes us from actually telling the truth. To be fair, we were compensated with a free drink each for the wait.

We called here for food around 6pm & it was very quiet with only one other table taken. We had looked at the menu online prior to going but when we got there, it wasn’t as extensive. The hosts were really welcoming and chatty and we were seated near a lovely log burning fire. The food is all cooked to order so you do have a little wait, but I prefer that. I had a fish finger sandwich which came with skinny fries (which were very salty) with a bit of greenery. My partner had the Yorkshire pudding starter but it also came with the skinny fries, not sure if this was just an extra? We also shared the garlic prawns, which were lovely. The pub is very dog friendly, with two of their own sat in the bar. Great place!

Absolutely wonderful. Friendly family run pub and the food was out of this world. All freshly cooked and very reasonably priced. We liked it so much we will be going back before our holiday ends. Ignore the poor reviews (the very limited number) this is from people who expect fast food not properly cooked fresh meals.

Relaxed grazing family meal Booked for 530pm. No rush to order. Welcomed by owner who was keen to help and guide. 2 friendly dogs residents which our youngest loved. Felt like being welcomed to a friendly home host. Explained he had a host staff member down which was fine because we were in no rush. In fact it felt relaxed and allowed us to settle in and relax after a busy afternoon. Lots of interesting selections of grazing and main meal options. Well, we could not have anticipated the quality of the cooking. We asked for things to be sent out as they were ready (good option) and we grazed away for our stay. Good quality food and wine and seriously reasonable prices. Our 20something to teenage boys left satisfied and full, as did we. Unassuming and delightful visit in this hidden gem. Go without a timescales and enjoy an unhurried but genuinely satisfying and tasty selection of home cooked delights from this skilled and talented chef who caters for tastes young and old. Pure joy for a group who are not always easy to please. Recommend the garlic prawns (simply phenomenal), garlic mushrooms (like I’ve never tasted!), Mac and cheese (pleased a 13 Yr old, hard to please USA foody addict) and sirloin steak which was tasty beyond measure. Bottle of Sauvignon was cheap by restaurant standards but good quality too. Recommended by a tricky group who are hard to please in their entirety, usually but all left wanting a return visit. Wish we lived closer as we would be regulars!

A couple of real ales on, fire and very friendly staff - we need to get this back on our regular haunts eating out list! Exquisite dining at locals rates in the Tanat Valley - what a gem! We booked Sunday lunch based on previous reviews to try out in advance of booking for a large family Christmas meal. Always a good indicator of whether they can cook Christmas lunch. First signs were not good, one member of staff behind the bar taking orders as well as serving table, drinks etc. No details of our booking which was made by phone because they didn't respond to our email booking. Beer was very average, not sure that the IPA is being kept as it should be. Menu not nearly as varied as that on the website. Decent enough prawn cocktail let down by no bread of any sort as an accompaniment, wife had garlic mushrooms which were a bit gloopy. Soggy overcooked veg, very poor Yorkshire puddings, a miserly dribble of watery gravy. My wife said it reminded her of school lunches- only not as nice! To top it off, service was very slow, the atmosphere dismal and whilst the lady behind the bar was not rude, she certainly didn't seem to be very convivial or interested.

Called on a Monday night as we was passing. We asked for food and we was told they don’t do food on a Monday but if we was willing to wait they would open the kitchen. So glad they did. The food was wonderful. The atmosphere was chilled and the bar maid was wonderful. Will be coming back.

Lovely place for food and drink. We came for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. Highly recommended the home made fish finger butty. It was very tasty and reasonably priced. We were well looked after by Chris. Good choice of beers and a good location. We will be back again.

Umm. Sorry, not my sort of pub. Not my sort of menu. Sort of bistro style. Hubby had the fish and chips which he enjoyed. I had a burger, very nice, which came with French fries ( like thin match stick) which I'm not keen on. 😥 Pinched hubbies chips to make up for it. Atmosphere was a bit lacking, only 4 people in. However, what put me off was the cleaner who was working the whole time we were in there to eat. Mopped the floor, clean window, wiping down everywhere. Not to mention the view from our table towards the ladies loo. Just put me off a tad. Should have changed table as my problem. Would I go back ? Yes, but in a year or so, when they do real chips with burgers and clean out of lunch hours.

O lovely pub for food and a group of friends. Lovely beer garden and lively staff. For the food it does need to be cooked much faster but except from that I would deffinitely come again.

Just ended a week away in Shropshire with a final night's meal at The Lime Kiln. The staff were friendly and attentive and made us and our dog feel very welcome. We could not fault the food, it was fresh, hot and very tasty. Only wish we had come earlier in our holiday so that we could have come again.

Fantastic place!! Went for Sunday roast today with the family. It was packed. Service was fast and efficient. Friendly staff made you feel at home, even the dog got treats ( great idea btw ) Cannot recommend enough, will be going back and back. Family friendly country pub with a heart. We were greeted by the friendly front of house staff at the bar. Whilst we were discussing our order an older member of staff (chef / boss maybe) wondered in and cut accross us whilst turning his back to us and spoke to the front of house staff in a desperately rude, disrespectful and condescending manner. It must have been very embarrassing for the front of house person. There is no excuse to speak to or treat anyone in that manner. Not an establishment we shall be visiting again.

We had a chance find with The Lime Kiln this week (Tue 18 July), but what a find! Pulled in to stretch our legs and have a coffee, ended up chatting with the nice guy behind the bar (didn’t ask for his name sorry) and eyeing up some good looking food that he was brought out for the other customer in there. We ended up eating and staying for over two hours! Had a great burger with a Thai / Vietnamese twist (so tasty and cheap!!), and he made a decent coffee… The guy was no barista, but it was a solid latte. It was pretty quiet, but it was early in the week and hadn’t long been open. We were told that it’s early days for the new owners and they are still fine tuning things, but it came across as a proper little gem to us. Thanks and all the best!

We were told there would be a wait for food of about 1 hour despite the pub being very quiet, later on we were told a member of staff had left that day so they were short staffed. The quality of the beef and lamb...

We stopped here on the way back to Wales, after 3 hours in the car with the children we were desperate for some food. Felt very unwelcome as soon as we walked in the door, almost as if they weren’t a pub that should have...

OK so it was clear today that they were understaffed, this was made clear upon arrival by the very friendly host, who was clearly working above and beyond to do his best, it seemed only him and chef were there doing the best they could. Now this would normally prompt a lot of complaints from some, but I for one am not complaining and appreciate the effort put in here, yes a bit slow but I'd rather that than quick and sloppy. The Sunday roast was simply one of the best I've had in some time in this area, proper food tasty and home cooked. If it was just the 2 of you may I say we'll done, you have my seal of approval and looking forward to returning in the week time. I hope you do well, if it's judged on hard work and quality produce, you should do well. Thank you. See you again soon.

Well I have to say since the departure of James and his friend and fellow chef it is not as good as it was under them. We first visited here around 3 weeks ago finding it on way back from a shopping visit to Welshpool. We were greeted by James an exceptional chef and lovely guy who made us feel welcome. We had a lovely Sunday dinner which was amazing. And booked in for the following Sunday too. We even popped in during the week beforehand and had small bite to eat which again was incredible. The 2nd Sunday lunch again was amazing. We returned yesterday however to discover James and his friend had left, and the owner was more or less trying to do everything himself with a young lady doing her best to help him when she available. We'd ordered food before we were told they had gone and when if eventually arrived it was nowhere near as good as it would of been. We thus cancelled our planned Sunday lunch for this weekend. Don't get me wrong it is still a really nice place for a drink or two. The new barmaid is genuinely lovely and had nice natter to her while we enjoyed our drinks. It's just a massive shame that James and his friend have gone, especially with the plans they had.

Excellent hosting and a fully explained menu that is concise yet still containing something for everyone. There is passion in the strategy to offer fresh and cook to order dishes that are very well priced - especially the steak.

Really great food cooked perfectly generous portions and clean well kept beer. Coffee was great too. If I could ask for anything more it would be a cask ale.

Visited for the first time since refurb, had Sunday lunch. Food was very nice but not very hot perhaps if served on hot plates it may help. Staff very friendly and attentive.
