Great food, atmosphere, garden and generally an amazing place for an evening meal... However, some of the staff can be a little rude/slow. I've been a few times and most staff are amazing but there is one/two who are slow and come across as not very friendly.

The place it’s self and the food is absolutely amazing and the fact that Ashley is was by himself running food, greating people, serving at the bar and being the best host possible he still maintained an excellent service and looked after the several tables that was in on a busy Thursday night, he did a fantastic job and also explained to us the importance of booking so he can make sure that there is extra staff on to help with the unexpected rush of people! However he did the most amazing job possible and I cannot fault a single thing!! Service, food and wait time was on point!! I’ll 100% recommend and will be returning again!

A regular haunt of ours and always our go-to restaurant for steak, but our last visited disappointed. We went to celebrate my partners birthday, and she always says 'The Last Inn for steak' whenever I ask her where she wants to go. Why were we disappointed? Well, we expect really good things from this venue, great tasting steak, well matured, fleshy to the touch and cooked to the temperature asked for (we are both medium rare people), but this time both steaks were over cooked, abd when I say this, I mean they were medium to well done. Still eatable, but not as enjoyable - not for us anyway. No complaints to the staff as we were on a tight schedule, and the food was very tasty, just not what we had ordered, plus the poor chap (he was on his own) was run off his feet meeting, greeting and seating, plus being the barman and the server. Still our favourite restaurant for steak!

Took friends for afternoon tea, asked for 2 vegetarian- got vegan. Plates wet & dirty (we wiped clean). Vegan sandwich mushrooms with oily pesto was not good, no veggy alternative to sausage roll. All cakes very dry, no alternative to cream. We had to chase tea/coffee when nearly finished food.

(Unfortunately no pics taken). Whilst staying in Muxford, we looked for a local pub for food that served meat, vegan and more than "just nuggets" for kids. The Last Inn covered all bases. Upon arrival, the car park is opposite. At the entrance, it does state "dog friendly" and there are water bowls. Greeted at the bar by friendly staff, we were seated straight away. The pub is very light and airy and stretches further back than can be seen with a beer garden also. We ordered a Last Inn beer and a non alcoholic beer on tap. To the food, we ordered a child's Mac & Cheese with garlic bread (enough to feed a small adult). There are a few vegan options, opted for the veg linguine which was good (could have done with a few mushrooms and maybe garlic bread on the side but was nice). Lastly the 10 oz Rib Eye, cooked in crushed pepper with Blue Cheese sauce, if it was not the best steak I have ever had, it is very close, would highly recommend to any meat lover. This was follwed up with a chocolate cheesecake & apple crumble, both delicious. Definitely would visit again if in the area.

Really disappointed. Booked a table for father's day lunch. Only 3 of us. Took 15 minutes after being seated to have a drinks order taken. A further 25 minutes for a food order to be taken. Sat waiting for 40 minutes after taking the food order (it wasn't complicated, burger, messy fries and kids sausage and mash) and still nothing. My 4 year old started shouting he wanted crisps because he was so hungry. No one checked in on us. Asked us if we were okay. The staff seemed to only care about the big tables constantly talking about them and we felt like an after thought. We eventually cancelled our food order and left because an hour and 20 minutes after sitting down to still have no food in front of you is not good enough. Especially with a young child on the table.

We were sandwiched between the toilets and a crying child despite half the restaurant virtually empty. The food was so heavily salted it was barely edible (suffering the next day for it). Service was slow No cutlery and plates for the starter. To sum up my experience... M1y wife commented that it was the first time she had ever seen me leave food in a restaurant. Would not recommend!

Revisited The Last Inn for a meal on Sunday 26 May 2024 . A relatively quiet Last Inn with no need to book . The man behind the bar was trying to train a new young lady in waitress skills . My wife is recovering from a long illness / hospitalisation and uses a walking stick to aid her mobility. We were surprised by the removal of some of the disability aids at the Last Inn. ( see Wheel chair accessibility note below - definitely NOT suitable ) The Last Inn offers 3 real ales - nothing dark however . The Wainwright's Amber Ale was very bland and slightly more expensive than other real ale outlets ( £4.80 a pint) The car park is on the opposite side of the Wellington Road ,which has a 40 mph speed limit and has cars rushing into and out of Newport. There is NOT any immediate easy access into the building if you are not happy with steps or in a wheelchair. The ladies toilet is up 4 steep steps and has no handles or other aids inside room to help the infirm . We had 1 course as a main course . The price was comparable to other local quality establishments but the food was rather disappointing My wife had a Fillet steak for £32 but it lacked any taste compared to other places where we have had similar meals I had a sausage and mash and my son was not impressed with his steak and ale pie which was rather overcooked ( and arrived with mash rather than chips - although the error was quickly rectified) . We cannot recommend The Last Inn based on our visit as we did not comfortable or welcome

🌟 A Gem in Newport I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Last Inn in Newport, and I must say it was a delightful experience. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality. 👥 **Staff**: - **Evie** and **Mabel**, in particular, stood out. Their attentiveness and friendly demeanor made the dining experience even more enjoyable. They were knowledgeable about the menu, quick to address any requests, and always had a smile on their faces. 🍽️ **Food**: - The food was exceptional. I opted for the steak, and it was cooked to perfection. The freshness of the ingredients was evident, and the presentation was top-notch. 🍻 **Drinks**: - The Last Inn offers a great selection of drinks. Whether you're in the mood for a craft beer or a classic cocktail, they've got you covered. 🎶 **Music**: - I visited on a Saturday evening and was treated to live acoustic music. It added to the cozy atmosphere and made the evening memorable. 🏡 **Ambiance**: - The Last Inn is housed in an old traditional building with a modern twist. It's the kind of place where you can unwind, enjoy good company, and forget about the outside world. 🕰️ **Service**: - Despite being busy, the service was efficient. Evie and Mabel ensured that every guest felt welcome and well taken care of. 🌟 **Overall Impression**: - The Last Inn is more than just a restaurant; it's a community hub. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply want a relaxing meal, this place ticks all the boxes. 👏 **Kudos to the team** at The Last Inn for creating such a wonderful establishment. I'll definitely be back! If you're ever in Newport, I highly recommend paying a visit to The Last Inn. You won't be disappointed!

Service very friendly and chefs even waved us goodbye as we left. Unfortunately the food did taste as though the chefs were more focused on what was going on outside the window, than on what was happening in the kitchen. My burger was accompanied with bits of “batter”, which I was told must be from the frier when preparing my chips. Still unsure why they were on my plate and in my burger. I was quite disappointed in the meal, I used to visit the last inn frequently and always thought the food was amazing, with local, seasonal produce. Not so now I’m afraid to say. My burger was pre-formed not attractive at all the meat was heavily minced and a perfect patty with perfect rounded sides not at all what I expected although it had some taste, not much though. I could’ve had a better burger from five guys if I’m honest for the same price. Fries were ok but as I neared the bottom I had an overwhelming taste of fish !! No atmosphere,it was chilly in there and not warming or felt welcoming and as a result only stayed for less than an hour. Such a shame I spent £50.00 !!! I am sorry but I won’t return.

Genuinely disappointed by our experience at the Last inn today. Have been before and it was really nice so was expecting a good Sunday lunch but it was awful. This place would really benefit from some training for their waitresses particularly around allergies. Myself and my mum are allergic to gluten….we were told by the waitress that we could have the pigs in blankets but not the sausages, and we could have the cauliflower cheese and the Yorkshire….which both myself and my mum then questioned/double checked with her because these are the things we are usually told we can’t have….on this basis we ordered the ‘large roast’. When they arrived they were a total disaster and were by no means ‘large’. The pork looked disgusting and there was one very thin, very small slice of beef. There was no Yorkshire pudding, and no pigs in blankets. When we questioned this, the waitress proceeded to tell us several times that she had told us we couldn’t have those….she did not….we would absolutely have ordered something else. In addition to awful roasts, the service from this waitress was dreadful….we had a table full of empty glasses and no one collected nor offered us a second drink. Also, for our first round of drinks my dad and husband ordered a hobgoblin IPA and received something totally different, when they advised the waitress of this she insisted it was hobgoblin (but in fairness she did take them away and replace with different drinks). We had an insane wait for starters and then an even longer wait for mains (over an hour in between) which was particularly tough with a newborn and a toddler. We asked to speak to the manager - he came over, offered us some more beef (which only arrived after we’d finished our mains) but then when the bill arrived he didn’t come back over and there was no gesture of goodwill to attempt to turn a negative experience into a positive experience which was even more disappointing. My husband spoke to a different waitress who was really lovely and really helpful and went and sorted it for us - and in fairness by the end they did refund the roasts and took off my dads starter which also wasn’t what he had expected really. The gesture was nice, and appreciated but I was disappointed that we’d had such a rubbish experience at somewhere I had suggested we go. Given the prices it’s somewhere you’d expect To have a reasonably decent experience but unfortunately we didn’t. Not sure we will visit again which is a shame as we live so close but if these reviews are read by the Last inn then I genuinely think the waitress that dealt with us needs some training. The last thing you need from a waitress/waiter when you have an allergy is really unclear advice/hesitation over what does or doesn’t contain allergens…any doubt from waiting staff really puts you off eating the food because you lack trust that your food is safe to eat. When we bought our food over there was still hesitation and lots of backtracking….but my mum and I both know what we were told…and if we had been told that our ‘large roast’ would include 1 carrot, 3 green beans, 3 tiny roast potatoes, inedible pork, and a tiny and thin slice of beef we would definitely not have ordered it. Also just the basics of not insisting to a table of customers you told them something you didn’t, and also just checking if they’d like another drink after more than an hour of no food and no other check ins from waiting staff since ordering the first drink. Also a more minor point that would have been appreciated and may help another mum/dad out if it is read by the last inn….if you’ve made a 3 year wait for food for well over an hour please don’t serve everyone else at the table a good 5 minutes before serving them. Was so proud of my little guy for waiting so nicely….but he shouldn’t have had to.

I have been to the last inn today for Sunday lunch which cost £29.00 for my wife and I. It was shocking !!!! My wife had the pork which half of it was fat with no crackling as stated on menu I had beef which was obviously a poor cut and very very sinewy, we had half a potato cut in two roasted, half a carrot, half of a parsnip, one sprig of broccolli and one floret of cauliflower. We are not greedy people but you normally get a bowl of vegetables. Waitress was made aware and said “sorry about that” which in my mind means we won’t be doing anything about this …. I am not out to destroy businesses but when food, quality and value for money is this poor I think during these hard times people need making aware. It’s a shame as was once good food

A group of six of us decided to book here for our Xmas get together, we booked well in advance and had to pre order from the Xmas menu, we had all ordered the 2 courses, the table was booked for 7pm, our main meal was served at 8.15pm ! Bearing in mind it had been pre ordered, one plate had no potatoes, so asked for some this took a further 10 mins to arrive, once finished it took about half hour to remove plates, well four of them, two were left, asked if wanted to order dessert again we said we had pre ordered, it then took another hour for them to arrive, no spoons, waitress said she would go get some still waiting 10 mins later we decided to use some forks that were on the table, so imagine trying to eat ice cream with them, she then arrived has we were finishing eating the desserts with some spoons and promptly took them back saying they were short of spoons. The service was a joke, it wasn't busy plenty of empty tables, so don't know what the excuse was, by the way we weren't the only table that was kept waiting, so with that I can honestly say we will not return.

Good - when it came out food was very nice (Sunday lunch). Waitress was very friendly & helpful, not deserving of some of the abuse we heard she'd received from other customers because of - Bad - food was slow, painfully slow to come out, From first sitting down our starter took an hour to arrive. Then another hour from starter being cleared to the main coming out. So slow that there must've been some kind of staffing issue in the kitchen. It wasn't just our food either, I said to my wife that other tables were waiting as NO food at all was coming out from the kitchen. I've worked in a pub on a Sunday lunchtime so I know it doesn't take an hour for a plated roast to be prepared. Compared to yesterday when we went to The Fox at Cheswardine and our food come out within 5 minutes of being sat down. And I'd say both pubs probably had the same amount of customers in at the time so it's not like The Fox was quieter. My wife was talking to the mum of the poor waitress and she was in tears apparently because of what was said to her by other tables. All that for minimum wage for a 17yr old . . . . shameful. Shame on you if you were one of the customers verbally attacking a young girl. You have a problem, you speak to the manager/landlord or lady, not the girl bringing your food to your table. If the manager is reading this, please give this girl a raise or some form of compensation for taking cr4p that should've been given to you.

Really lovely place. We came in just before lunch finished so service was a little slow and there were a lot of things not on the menu. We'd gone for a family catch up though so the waiting didn't bother us at all and the waitress was nice and really accommodating. The food was really enjoyable and it was nice to have a few options for gluten free.

Went to last Inn for a drink Friday 14 April good selection of beers only problem was bar staff told me they had no 5 peaces for change so I said fine knock it off next round guess what they did in fact they didn't give me my 5 pence again so they got 10 pence off me it all adds up if they do that to every customer it all adds up won't be going back

We rang to ask if we can stay on the car park in our T4 camper van. We were told we could. We arrived with our little dog and from arriving at the pub we were made to feel very welcome. The bar staff were very friendly, we had a lovely meal at a very reasonable price, along with a bottle of wine. Everyone we spoke with was extremely friendly, will definitely return when in this area for a meal and stop over .

Highly recommend Booked a buffet for my mums 80th Birthday. The venue was perfect, the staff could not be more accommodating and the food was delicious. They were able to cater for vegetarians and egg allergies with no problems at all. We were made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We were assured we could stay as long as we wanted and never felt any pressure to leave. Would definitely go back again. Couldn’t ask for anything more.

I took my mum for an early Mother’s Day lunch, my mum had fish and chips so did I. It was amazing, batter crispy and light, fish fresh and white. Please can you stock oat milk though please? Everything was wonderful thank you

Super friendly staff, really welcoming. Well kept beer. While others in our party really enjoyed their food, I had the Chicken Tikka Kebab and it was terrible. The flatbread was over cooked and dry, the chicken was tough and lacking flavour. While, as others have said, it is a lovely setting the toilets are a massive let down, holes in the walls, tiles hanging off, cracked sinks broken taps, loo rolls stacked on the toilet and yet more holes where the holder used to be. I would be willing to try again as I said others really enjoyed their food but they really need to address the toilets.

Wednesday evening visit and a few tables making an ok atmosphere. Quite a big dining area with a bar area for just drinks. Was cosy enough although it could have done with being a bit warmer. Had the Last Inn Ale which was quite good then ordered the risotto and chicken. Took a while to come but was worth the wait. Very nicely cooked and tasty with green beans. Good portion size but a price tag of £15.50. Not exactly value for money for some rice and chicken, but then again, what is? Spent about an hour in the venue. Although service was efficient it was standard. Could have done with a little more atmosphere, music, log fire, tv screen or something. I would visit again as it sounds like the Sunday dinner is an epic. Plenty of parking across the road. Clean restaurant with a contemporary feel. A Cross between Old style pub and modern restaurant. Still had a wonky table which made for 5 minutes of entertainment trying to balance it up.

The girls serving were trying their best but the manager was rude and didn't seem to have an inside voice, the entire restaurant could hear every condescending thing he had to say to his staff. The burger was by far and away the worst I've ever had - I've genuinely had better from burger vans - the bacon on it was white, no idea how you can turn bacon white. Paid extra for blue cheese fries but the sauce was clearly out of a jar/bottle and just served to make the chips soggy. The desert was supposed to be a red velvet brownie but was clearly just chocolate sponge cake - petty sure red velvet is meant to be red? Everyone around were complaining about some aspect of their meal and the resolution was simply to say "sorry about that" no resolution to make things better or replace any food. I've also never had a meal where after spending £80 do the staff not even say bye or thanks for visiting as you walk past them. Tried to be loyal to a new local place but we were severely disappointed

Such a shame how the service and food quality has decreased lately. I waited for an hour and 15 minutes and the food was mediocre. I'm sorry but I won't go again.

Booked for a party of 28 for my sisters 40th.. oh dear !! We were asked to pre order a week in advance but still the night was complete disorganized chaos! The 3 medium to well stakes that were ordered were still practically moo_ing , im sure a quick blast of a defibrillator would have had them back up and breathing! A couple of of the other steaks were too tough and had to be sawed through Mustard mash was like eating Gandhi's flip flop with bullet proof veg ! And the bowls of fries were swimming in grease . We were not allowed to approach the bar but instead asked to stay in our seats for table service ... the word i will use very loosley as we waited well over 20 minutes each time to receive the ordered drinks The meals were not cheap and certainly not cheerfull 3 out of the 28 of us ended up poorly during the night. All in all a waste of money and a ruined birthday celebration Steer clear at all costs

Lovely food so the 2 stars go to that, just couple of issues service was a lil slow regarding the drinks, seemed to take a while we had ordered some more drinks when our food had arrived but we had finished our meals by the time the drinks came just would of been nice to have something to wash the meal down. Also the toilets were disgusting there was an issue with the mens loos so the ladies was made into unisex while they awaited a plumber which was fine these things happen, there was 2 cubicles and in one of them looked like someone had been sick and left a mess behind and also the bin was overflowing with paper towels all on the floor. If they was the only toilets in use and with more people using them with the mens being out of order there should of been something in place to keep on top of the cleaning.

New to the area and my partner and myself are trying out the local eateries. The Last Inn ticks so many boxes - firstly of all the staff were super friendly and welcoming, the place was beautiful and cosy inside, and the food… our food was damn tasty. I ordered the southern fried burger and messy fries, a solid 7.5/10 (fries probably need some melted cheese to gain an extra few points 😉). So yeah, very impressed with it all, we will be back. Thanks.
