Just got a donner kebab from here , disgusting .Meat as tough as old boots most of it has just gone in the bin ,never again.

Ordered large cod & chips. The cod was ridiculously greasy and the actual fish was as dry as anything. I couldn’t eat it. I couldn’t complain either as they were so incredibly rude to me. Disgusting food and disgusting service and disgusting staff/owners. Wont be ordering ever again. Be warned people!!

Food wasnt all that as chips had been around a while. Doubt I’ll go back.

An error was made in our delivery but rectified immediately with an entirely fresh delivery - will definitely use again

Great delivery service,large number of fish and chips 40 +, all delivered at requested time for the Watford Lions fish and chip lunch. Food delivered was plentiful and extremely enjoyable.. Recommend this establishment 👍👍

Very nice Fish and Chips I used to go to Riverside Hemel Hempstead town centre but now I go here. Also they do percentage off your meal on just eat sometimes

We went in and ate inside. They were all very kind. It did take awhile to get our food because they were slammed with order. So this place does get very busy and i think a lot of people forget about that. So many people were calling asking where their delivery was when there is only 1 driver and the owner who takes runs here and there. People need to cut these guys some slack lol. They were very hardworking and very kind to us. When we got our food it was very good! The lunch menu prices seem like a good deal but we ordered later in the night. Also the fish you get is HUGE. The pictures don’t do it justice.

What a bunch of morons. Food was 20 minutes late. Food was DISGUSTING. these Neanderthals think that this is a chicken FILLET burger. Not a scrap of salad or sauce. The staff who answered the phone, obviously thinks she is far more important than she actually is. Unhelpful and rude. Will never order here again and I do NOT recommend it to others.

Quick food, friendly and helpful staff. Really a good chip shop for when you feel like a chippy at the end of the day.

We saw that the Lihjthousd stocked and sold Skate our favour fish .I called them , ordered, and it was delivered inside the hour . The food was hot well cooked delicious and satisfying. The chips were super . The delivery guy was polite friendly anc helpful . Well done Lighthouse keep up the great work!

Ordered online and it was delivered in half an hour, verygood prices, wow it was all so good all was superb quality, they are back as they once were, the best, I would certainly recommend them.

Stopped of on my meal break and the food was awesome, very clean and well presented, plenty of salad and generous portion size I went for a large and was not disappointed, will recommend and return to try the other items on menu

Ordered over the phone, lady sounded rude and not bothered to take my order. Collected it got home to barely cooked chips swimming in grease, my husband’s kebab was a build your own and the bread was more like a wafer thin flat bread which was cut into small squares and wasn’t pliable enough to even fold to eat like a usual kebab. Shockingly small portions for their quality and food prices. Unfortunate as it used to be our favourite chip shop

Bad for spamming & inconsiderate of the environment. Had 9 of their leaflets spammed through my letterbox over a period of 3 days - not only annoying - has confirmed I would not dine here and is inconsiderate of the environment to be printing and spamming so many of these. No one wants 9 of your menu

Food is nice, but you have to build the doner kebab yourself. Everything comes in individual boxes, small point but when you want a kebab you don’t want to assemble it yourself!

Awful, delivery didn't even turn up and was told to contact just eat for a refund. Manager wouldn't even talk

I wrote over four years ago that this was the 'Best fish and chips in the local area'. How times have changed. Unfortunately the service and quality of food has gone down hill since the new management have taken over. Food, customer service, delivery wait times have all contributed to a very poor experience over all. It is a shame, but I hope they can correct the issues and return to being a great place to get your food.

The food is amazing from the chips to the kebabs all freshly cooked.. this is regular for us

Excellent and tasty fish and chips which we had delivered for our first function after lockdown. Great service resolving a mix up on numbers,which was due to an errror on our part.

We had a family birthday weekend and we ordered food for 9 people. Mixture of fish and kebab dishes, all members of the party throughly enjoyed the wonderful food. Portion sizes were exceptional. Cod was thick and tasty. Shish kebabs were huge and a struggle to finish. Chips were spot on and again generous portion size. It was a large order and everything was delivered as ordered and it came 10mins earlier than expected. Lighthouse is definitely the best chippy in the area.

Edit: Nothing changed from below other than the chips. They have changed recipe since lockdown and they now have some of the most delicious chips I’ve ever had. The only problem is as the taste has skyrocketed the portions have plummeted. Sometimes they’re just about acceptable but a good few times I’ve had a ridiculously small portion. Me and my eating partner are not big eaters and usually share a small at your average chippy but even when ordering a medium, some nights you get just about enough for one. Less than half the portion size with the previous recipe so they know how good they taste. Would rather they put prices up and done a proper portion. Original review: Good options other than fish with a wide variety. Nice chicken and lamb shish kebabs. Only not a 5 star because every time I’ve ordered the lighthouse special they have either forgotten to include one of the meats or not given me any salad despite it being selected on the website. Still the best chippy around despite this

Chicken shish used to be amazing. Last 2 orders were really poor with over cooked dry chicken and much smaller portion sizes. Found out the chef has changed, gutted used to be the best around. Won't be going back if this is the new standard.

Ordered 30 mins before collection, a man who ordered at the door when I arrived got his order before me??, priority should be given to people who can be bothered to turn up at the door in all sorts of weather,, if your vaccinated you need to get out and about and try get back to normal having six cars doing deliveries in that area just pumps up the pollution levels as well, THINK!!!! (Also don't know if it was rushed because it was busy but the chips were pathetic and half the fish batter was stuck to the paper) just saying.

Im changing my review have spoken to the owner a very lovely lady she has sorted the problem out so yes i will recommend them for the takeaway meal. Had a mixed chicken and lamb shish kebab absolutely perfect the best kebab around

Not sure if Covid is to blame but this has gone from the best chippy in the area to mediocre. Bought fish and chips a couple of weeks ago, batter was soft and not well cooked, small chip portion should be described as tiny, Advertised weight of chips is 170g, actual weight was 140g. When I phoned to complain I was told they're now using one scoop, as if that makes it ok. It's illegal actually to advertise one thing than deliver something less. They did offer to courier out another portion, but I declined.

The food here is lovely however the delivery service is terrible. 2 and half hours later our order had not arrived. This isn't the first time we've experienced this here. When contacting the store we are greeted with the same excuses of being very busy and that is a Friday night? We asked for a refund and told to ring the next day due to being too busy to issue it.

This was definitely the best chip shop in the past but not anymore. I would say fairly that consistently my orders which easily at least 30 times have all been 1hr, 30mins minimum to arrive which I actually planned in advance for after getting used to it but that's fine. Recently my food took 2 hours and 20 mins to arrive as they said they were short staffed which I believe they we're but inform customers before they buy that the wait will be that and we can decide if we want to continue the order or not. After phoning several times as my kids were starving the manager said she'll give us 15% discount on the next order which we found quite insulting but wait for the punch line ending on this............... The food arrived all incorrect and shabby. The chips had no salt n vinegar on and the size was pathetic for a large portion to say the least plus they forgot the box of salad for the kebab so that got eaten dry and it was a disaster in the end. We can comfortably say we'll never order from here again.

Ordered online at 6pm for Pick up at 7pm was left waiting out in the cold in front of the shop for nearly another hr whilst other customer's walked up and were served in front of me, terrible delivery service as order before was lukewarm when arrived this is why thought I'd collect, won't be going there again

This used to be the best fish and chip shop in Abbots and Watford. I'm sad to say that this is no longer the case. The last few orders we've had have not been very good. Long delivery times and the chips and fish batter are soggy and greasy. Will not be ordering from here anymore

Our order to 2 and a half hours to be delivered, and when it came it was cold. I called the shop twice to chase my order and was told that they we short staffed and really busy. What used to a fantastic fish and chip shop has really plummeted under the new owner. I will not be using The Lighthouse again!!!!

Very poor! Waited over 2 hours for delivery! Food very poor, chicken burgers and chip cold, kebab cold and no sauces! Would not recommend and will not use again.

I have regularly ordered from the lighthouse for the last few years. However this was the first time since the new owners have taken over. I order my usual chicken shish with chips and waited 1hr 45 mins for delivery. When it arrived it not only was it cold and the chicken shish was all in separate pots/wrappings. All thorough I ordered a small chips the portion was 1/3 of the size it used to be which was disappointing. After this experience I won’t be ordering from here again.

During the lockdown and since restrictions been lifted I regret to say the lighthouse has gone down hill sadly - uv only got to look outside the shop to see there are letters missing on signage not a good look - has the original owner packed up ? I’m sure that will have something to do with it - staff in shop look very different - my fish today was cold when I got home not the usual high standards anymore - shan’t go there anymore sadly

Fish batter was thick and heavy the chips where rubbery, wait time.ridiculous, service poor atmosphere in shop tense. I have kept trying and hoping.i.caught the shop on a bad day but sadly not. Im.frightened to.go in the shop, you can cut the atmosphere with a knife. Given up

The food is great never had a problem but always ordered through just eat but won't be ordering any more as minimum amount for delivery is £15 so as a single person can't justify it. Used just eat as it didn't have minimum amount like website but does now.

Really challenging times during this pandemic. Lighthouse and to change a really robust process to cope and yes there were some challenges while getting it all running. Thank you Lighthouse for meeting the problems head on and really working to make sure customer came first. Took a complaint so positively managed it solved it and kept a customer. Just got my delivery half an hour late, and all the food are half portions but still full price, which they don’t tell you when ordering, ripped off

Great choice of food and always fresh and tasty. Easy to use website for ordering or when calling your number saves your last order! Its always so busy especially c7pm dinnertime. Best thing is to either go collect it or order at least an hour before.

Ordered 3 kebabs from here. Same as last time, ordered and paid for sauces which never arrive. Meals were cold. Orders wrong. Paid for halloumi. One small piece. Absolutely rubbish meal. We will never use this place again. Not that they'll care as they're making so much money on things that are paid for and never received

Best chicken shish and halloumi, salad always really fresh our favourite family take away

Firstly terrible delivery service. I ordered online as it said it would be 30-40 minutes, however once I placed and paid for the order it then said it would be over an hour. When I phoned to check this was correct, I was told that it would in fact be 1 hour 30, which it wasn't. Took almost 2 hours for our food to be delivered. Ordering at 7:15 for it to be delivered gone 9pm is really bad in my opinion. I would never have ordered from here if I knew it would be anywhere near that long.Once it arrived, it was cold, soggy and parts of it were inedible. It was cheaper than other fish and chip shops, but it's reflected in the quality.We won't be ordering from here again and I'd advice against it if you have anywhere to be that evening!

The clue is in how busy this place is.Basically a takeaway, but the quality is superb, we usually have the kebabs, and they are among the best I’ve had.Also ordered on line to save waiting time, great way to choose how they ‘build’ itRecommended

Ordered fish and chips just before 7.00pm. Phoned the shop at 8.20pm to be told it was on the way. Our meal finally arrived at 8.30pm and the entire meal was cold and soggy.

Nearly 2 hours for fish / chips and a burger , which when arrived was just a burger in a bun no salad or sauce . Onion rings straight in the bin as just full of grease , prob been sat for an hour ! Very disappointed. Will go somewhere else next time

On a few occasions I've ordered and ended up waiting over an hour for delivery. There is no indication of how long you can expect to be waiting when you order and tonight my food arrived an hour and twenty minutes after the confirmation email was received. Food just about warm enough to eat. Unhappy because they are so much better than this and they know it.

I used to order on a regular basis either to home or pub . But the food lately has gone down hill either being delivered late which I must say staff will say but it comes much later after there time. And either the fish and chips which arrived slimy even with the supposed Chrissy battery lol and tonight I ordered 2 wayne specials cold and yuk and I always top between 10 and six pounds sometimes more but no more for me going else where now don't deserve my hard earned monies . So bye.

Another shoot and another food taster. I was given the task of doing a shoot of this local Fish & chip restaurant. The place looks clean ,staff friendly,everything cooked was fresh and seen it first hand. Variety of dishes available and recently nominated best chippy in the west.

Have had food from The Lighthouse again and found out they are now an award winning shop.I am not surprised as I have had food from there a number of times, both fish and chips and chicken kebabs.Have always found the food to be of a high standard and staff friendly.

I visited this fish and chip shop on the way home from visiting the Harry Potter Studio. I had been recommended it by a friend who had previously eaten there. I have got to say we certainly weren’t disappointed. The staff were friendly and went out of there way to serve us as quickly as possible as my daughter who has special needs was a little upset due to being hungry. We were given a really good portion and the food was absolutely delicious. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. The salad on my kebab was beautiful and they went the extra mile adding roasted peppers and red onion. My husband had the fish and chips and said they were the best he’d had in a long time. The tartar sauce was freshly made and very tasty. I wish we lived closer to use this superb chip shop again

Tried this place a few times over the years and always disappointing. Cod and chips at lunchtime. Batter was spongey and doughy. Chips seemed to be re-heated. I will stick to Barkers in future.

The lady on the phone messed my order up for the second weekend. I ordered chicken doner and got lamb. No pot of sauce either which I was charged for. Lovely food shame about the messed up orders.

Ordered 2 burgers and chips for delivery and 1 hour 10 mins still no food. I called to be told the burgers are only just cooking now. Their excuse was they are extremely busy. I hear this every time we order, so tired of the same excuse!!! Get more staff.

Depends on the day, quality and quantity goes down on a Friday and Saturday evening. And delivery times go up...massively.

Excellent quality traditional fish and chips

About a year ago I was at a function where fish and chips were delivered. They were delicious and I enquired who it was who supplied them. It was the Lighthouse in Abbots Langley. Since then, my wife and I have made regular trips to their shop for their beautifully cooked Cod or Haddock and chips. You can be assured of the quality and taste and quick service. I highly recommend them.

It's very rare to get chicken donner and proper chip shop chips. Was awesome!
