We visited today and it was not particularly busy. Ordered coffee but machine not working. Ordered three roast dinners sent two back as barely warm. We met there last year and the food was excellent, we will not be going back.

The service was awful, and to be honest has been deteriorating on every visit for some time. On this occasion our reserved table was not set when we arrived. We asked for a child's menu and it took 20 minutes to locate one. Drinks took an age to arrive.  cutlery/serviettes were only fetched once our food had already arrived, and the waiter had to wrap each set as there were none pre-prepared, all the while our food was getting cold. We ordered more drinks and when they hadn't arrived after some time we chased them up, to be told there were issues with the till so couldn't be put through; any barman worth their salt knows you revert to pen and paper when the till is down. It seemed there was no experienced staff working to oversee things, only youngsters. The food was lovely however, so at least the kitchen is still of a good standard. We're now exploring other pubs in the area, as £20+ roasts should come with a service to match.

Management doesn’t seem to care about these reviews as I can see a number of people have been disappointed but there is no reply. We went for drinks but wanted a portion of chips for a hungry child. Was told no can do by 12 year olds behind the bar, who literally didn’t care. Clearly for them as long as they were paid at the end of their shift there was no customer service. The bar was covered in dirty glasses. There were unclean tables. I won’t be going there again and I wouldn’t recommend

I visited the White Horse on August 27th with my husband, son and daughter in law, and two small grandchildren. We sat outside and the everything food wise was fine, my only criticism being that my three year old grandaughters macaroni cheese arrived in a dish so hot that she burned her fingers. As this was a choice from the children's menu it was obvious who it was for and the food should have arrived in a cool bowl or at the very least some warning should have been given. When I went to pay for the meal I was never shown the bill or given a receipt although I asked for one. Instead I was told that if I left my email address one would be sent to me. It hasn't been in spite of an email sent by me to the pub asking for it. I loved so much about the White Horse and would certainly return there but possibly not for a meal.

We like this pub and on the whole the quality of the food is good BUT we went last night for a 7pm booking, staff were just arriving when the menus came we were told of all the items they didn’t have. There were some alternatives and only 1 steak left! personally with this level of change I would have reprinted the menus, I felt sorry for the server as a couple of groups arrived after us and she was getting some robust feedback on the lack of availability, although done with some humour at 7.30 it was going to be a long night! There was also no drinks menu available, we ordered 2 cocktails, based on the server telling us what they did to only have one brought to the table as they had run out of the other one We live locally and the pub is very convenient for us but the menu and availability let’s them down which is a shame as the food it usually good and well presented.

Great pub, excellent food. We dined in the Vineyard (heated and covered). Service was fine, prompt and friendly. The roast beef was delicious, well cooked, with lovely roast potatoes, Yorkie and veggies. Perhaps some gravy on the side would be nice. Everything was fresh and flavorful. 1 star lost on service due to the pub refusing to take cash; card transactions only. C'mon, we're post-Covid. It's okay to touch money again. Sure, it's convenient to take card only, but cash is still legal in the UK and should be accepted in a pub. As a visitor from overseas, I don't necessarily want to use my bank card with associated currency conversion fees when I have ample local currency available.

Have been here maybe 3 times over last couple of years. Was pretty impressed the first time. There were several vegan choices , the cabins were a good idea at Covid time. Latest visit - not so impressed..We sat in a large structure at the side of the main building which , frankly , is tackily decorated. At one point someone was strimming right outside. Our vegan cauliflower steaks were really just one slice on top of a bit of mashed squash with some salad. Not great for £16 each. We had to have a snack at home later. Apparently , " mash " was off but chips were available. This leads me to think that the chips come ready packaged & how hard is it to go & get some potatoes & make mash? Something I have encountered in other pubs. Poor value on this occasion.

Jason joined, the food has been out of this world… I would recommend the roasts - they’re delicious! The beef is served pink and the vegetables are cooked perfectly and well seasoned. What’s happened? Used to be an amazing pub with great service and fabulous food. However, upon our visit on Saturday the service was shocking from start to finish, (young lady with brown hair was trying her best). The most rubbery calamari and worst fish and chips ive ever had, lots of frozen food being heated up I predict. Pork belly was 80% fat, missed off half our drinks as simply were too unorganised to realise. Sat in one of the outdoor pods, but we were just forgotten. This was probably the worst pub lunch that I've had for a long time. Six of us had booked a table well ahead. We only had two courses and the service was so slow that we were there for more than three hours. The only excuse made was that there was only one chef there and he was new. That was no our problem of course. Two vegetarians ordered cauliflower "steaks" that were virtually raw, with a few burnt edges on top. There seemed to be little attempt made to check on how our meals were after they were served. To be fair, we were not charged for the cauliflower meals or for our desserts, but I would definitely not go there again.

We wondered why service was so slow, till Sean, the lovely new chef took time to come speak with us and apologized for delay, explaining he had just taken over from the chef who had quit without notice the previous day. Whilst the venue is very cozy and the staff are friendly, it appeared to be that we were purposely swindled. We came in for dinner with two children and we weren’t presented with children’s menus. Our kids ate adult portions of bangers and mash and a basic pasta that was also quite the sized large bowl. Unbeknownst to us both plates were listed on the children’s menus for £6.50 per serving but again we weren’t made aware of the children’s menu. My wife had the buffalo chicken sandwich and there was nothing buffalo 🦬 about it. No dressing other than ketchup on the side. I went for the steak and ale pie with horseradish?? There wasn’t a trace of 🐎 radish. And (get this) my meal was a kids size portion and it tasted like it just came out of the freezer; it reminded me of a Ramsey Gordon’s kitchen nightmares episode. Being that it was Valentine’s Day I refrained from making a comment about menu mistakes and the bland food. I was close to expressing my dissatisfaction because the bill was just over £80.00 without the surcharge. It’s also worth mentioning, I enjoyed a single pint of beer, and just tap water for the table. So we didn’t go crazy with drinks or juices. Soup was very tasty! The wings smelled amazing and they happened to come with blue cheese dressing which would have made sense to include on the buffalo sandwich. I didn’t order them because we were told that the serving size is ~ 4 wings. When they were served to the table next to us, there would atleast 6 maybe 8. It broke our bank but we didn’t want the black horse to be the dark knight and break the hearts 💔 of their other hopeful cupids. Sorry guys, I’m in the hospitality industry and I know how much work it takes to run a restaurant from kitchen to the front of the house, so usually I’m easier on the reviews when it comes to my dining experiences.

The waitress was informed and returned the meal for it to be heated in the microwave! When it returned it was warmer but the microwaving had caused the Yorkshire Pudding to become soft, not crispy and the turkey had become very chewy. Disappointed with main course. Great pub. Perfect after a dog walk. Small inside, but lots of heated booths outside too. Lovely food. I've had sausages and mash, and salmon here before. Salmon was a highlight as it was flavoured so well. Perhaps a tad pricier than the pubs nearby, but not by much.

Amazing atmosphere and superb location. Service was very friendly and efficient. Drinks were top notch and bar staff welcoming. Unfortunately the food was a disaster. My fish was overcooked and later this evening I felt sick (feeling I wanted to vomit) and had a very bad stomach. My son's pie was over cooked, so much so, that the pastry was too hard to cut through. The vegetables were undercooked and very hard and mash was dry on this and one other dish - bangers and mash. I'll put the bad food down to the kitchen maybe using temporary staff over the Christmas period to cover for regular staff on holidays. Willing to give this place another go in 2024 just because the staff were super nice and the venue has a magical aura in the evening.

1st time here for a family Christmas lunch. Have to call out the wonderful service we received. Food was fantastic. We had several mains from the menu from fish n chips, posh ham eggs, to Xmas Dinner. Can't fault it. They have a wide selection of vegetarian dishes too. My only suggestion is to expand that to the pies on offer.

Food was very good. Service was also great from Jonathan our host- incredibly accommodating and available without being overbearing, and nothing was too much trouble. Great pub, high quality all round, would recommend

Big disappointed with menu as was a bit limited. Burgers or roast basically although it was a Sunday I suppose. Staff were a little straight faced but it was a cold wet rainy day so maybe to be expected. Magician was a bonus and very good. Not as good a visit as previous times.

Great Sunday roast with the family. And nice atmosphere. Only down side is the parking, which you have to park along the road and walk there.

Expensive for what you get, elsewhere for the same price you at least get crisps and salad with your sandwiches. They also cleared my coffee before I had finished it.

The service was great and you are made to feel special. Have been before and the food was great. However we had a turkey Xmas dinner which was quite disappointing. The vegetables were hard and it all tasted bland. We have booked the Xmas menu in December and I just hope they add roast potatoes and make the meal tastier.

I covered several weddings at High Elms Manor. It is a beautiful setting. We were lucky enough to have a sunny day and an outdoor ceremony. The grounds are extensive and nicely secluded. Makes a lovely back drop for wedding photography. Overall a fabulous place and lovely being here :) Kind regards, Vanessa White (Crimson Sky Photography) Aston Clinton...

Very annoying that the Quiet Room closes 90mins before closing time. Cannot think of a valid reason for this apart from being convenient for staff rather than customers. The rest of the cafe is so noisy with families, children and dogs making the quiet room a benefit for others preferring a calmer experience. Not sure I’ll come again when it’s closed, the rest of the place is too manic.
