High Elms Manor was a fantastic choice for our wake. From the initial conversations we knew that the team of Ailise, Catrine, Lili and Jon cared about delivering a first class experience to meet the needs of our family and all our guests. High Elms is a beautiful location and the room was spacious and luxurious. Hugh's 92 year old widow Margaret will always remember spending precious time with family and friends. Thank you High Elms Manor team.

High Elms Manor hosted my brother’s wake yesterday. It’s in a great setting close to West Herts Crematorium. The room looked lovely, everyone we spoke to there couldn’t do enough for us; they were very helpful and considerate. The food and refreshments were very good and were complimented on by family and friends.

We held the wake for our mum at High Elms Manor in January 2024. The staff communicated well, set the room out beautifully, organised a lovely buffet and helped the day to run so smoothly. Many thanks. Would highly recommend.

I covered several weddings at High Elms Manor. It is a beautiful setting. We were lucky enough to have a sunny day and an outdoor ceremony. The grounds are extensive and nicely secluded. Makes a lovely back drop for wedding photography. Overall a fabulous place and lovely being here :) Kind regards, Vanessa White (Crimson Sky Photography) Aston Clinton

What a fantastic venue. Buffet was amazing and catered for our wake with utter professionalism. Only slight change I'd make would be the lighting to the car park but I could sit and watch the deer all day

We used this place for a wake after a west Herts crematorium service. They catered for it and it was absolutely perfect. I thoroughly recommend this place.

We held my grandfathers Celebration of life service at High Elms. Ailise and Cathrine organised a beautiful room and superb catering. They made sure everything was in place and the day went very smoothly. The location is peaceful and very close to the crematorium.

Absolutely perfect, and so close to the crematorium. The grounds and room were lovely, and the team were helpful, sensitive and discreet. We simply turned up and everything was ready for us; it was seamless. Thank you so much to the team for making it such a special and memorable occasion.

Very unprofessional. Poor value for money The manor is a very poor state of repair. I held my father’s wake here and they were very off hand and rude.

A lovely Country Manor house location where I attended a wake today. Classically styled hallway leads to several function rooms. The one chosen for this event was the grandest with fine furnishings and decor as well as a beautifully plastered/stuccoed ceiling bearing a wonderful multi-crystal chandelier. A fitting venue for my friend's wake.

I contacted the events manager Anailise 3 weeks before my mums wake to view the venue. After several emails with no response I called her and made arrangements to view a couple of days later. Upon arrival there didn't seem to be anyone in the building. After 20 minutes of ringing on the doorbell I called her and she said a friend would let me. 10 more minutes later a young man appeared. I offered a deposit to secure the venue but he said no..just pay in cash on the day. I spoke to Aliase again by phone who said that I couldn't pay by debit or credit but only BACS or cash. I offered to come and pay in cash but she said she was too busy to see me. I checked with her how substantial the food was at 14.95 per person and she told me it was ample and they usually throw alot way. I stayed that there would be around 35 guests but over 10 children. On the day of my mums funeral guests arrived and there was not a staff member in sight. The food consisted of 3 trays of sandwiches, 2 tiny pizzas, tiny sausage rolls and a small bowl of onion bahjis. There were a bit size selection of cakes. The food looked lost on a huge table. My partner went to try and a member of staff but there was no one to be seen. I arrived a short while after as I was in a funeral but guests had no idea were to go or what room to be in as there was no one around. Around 40 minutes later Aliase appeared looking like she had just got out of bed. I asked her if there was anymore food as it didn't look enough for 15 people let alone 25. At £15 per head I expected more especially as she had said they serve a substantial amount of food and usually throw lots away. He continued to keep disappearing as the dirty cups stacked up and clean cups, serviettes, milk etc were not replenished. Guests gave up on a refill of coffee in the end. When she did finally appear my partner confronted her regarding food, no clean cups, etc. She proceeded to bring out a few sausage rolls and a packet of hobnobs. She then pulled me up l whilst I sitting with guests and asked me to settle the bill. I didn't take too kindly to this. I said I would go to her office to pay her. 10 minutes later she asked my sister to go and get me as she wanted paying. What the hell is a person like this doing wakes for? She had no compassion, no care for her business and zero people skills. She is lazy and unprofessional. The place is stunning and beautiful but it's a shame it's being run by people that have no event or catering skills. The 4 hours with food that looked like a kids party cost me £570. Appalling service. Appalling food. Appalling attitude on what was already a very sad day. These people just want your money. On research they lost their drinks licence through ignoring licence letters and not meeting with their clientele. Don't book here to avoid getting off!!!!

What a great venue. Had my daughters wedding reception there. We had the entire ground floor bar one room for our use. Beautiful gardens. Ailish (hope the spelling is correct) the owner was relaxed and very helpful. Of the approved food suppliers Anna's Kitchen did such a wonderful job. Delish food and huge potions. Thank you so much.

As a wedding planner, I've been trying to book a viewing for my clients for about a month and we've now decided to give up on High Elms. I spoke with the event manager, Alesha, a month ago - she told me she was going on holiday for 2 weeks and wasn't able to book any viewings, even for after she returned. She asked me to call back when she came back from holiday to book a viewing. So, 2 weeks later, I ring again and her mother answers, saying she's still not back from holiday and to call back in a few days (the mother can't take viewing bookings either, it seems). A few days later, I call again, and the mother answers again, saying Alesha is asleep and to call back in a few hours. At this point, I ask HER to call ME back since I've tried so often and failed - I give my name and number, and I am yet to hear back from either of them - it's been a week now. If this is what they're like when they want your money, imagine how they'll be once they have it. Based on my dealings with this venue, I wouldn't recommend others to book their wedding here.

Had my mothers Wake here yesterday after service at watford crematorium. The room was laid out lovely, the buffet was excellent and all guests commented how good it was and same for setting. Its ease to get to from crematorium was brilliant due to mourners from all over and all found it easy to find. Thank you to Ailise and team for making the wake so nice and relaxed. My mother would have loved it

I had my daughter's christening reception here and it was a fantastic day. The venue itself is stunning and the care and attention that Ailise and her team gave to us meant that the afternoon was perfect. We could relax and enjoy ourselves knowing that we were being well looked after. I work for a FTSE 100 company in events management so I have lots of experience in what makes a fantastic venue for an event. High Elms Manor has it all!

On seeing this venue on Channel 4 some time ago, we decided to host our first event there. On arrival, we were treated to a tour of the gorgeous grounds and newly renovated manor house. We were advised that we could dress the areas as we wished but needed nothing in addition to the already impressive interiors. A family business, everyone was an absolute pleasure to work with. I have since used the venue twice for larger conferences and have introduced some close friends to hold their wedding reception there. I real find! Thanks girls!

I attended a Christmas party at this beautiful manor house. I remembered seeing it on country house rescue and it has clearly had even more done to make the place so enchanting. The rooms are magnificent and so tastefully decorated, the colours and atmosphere are wonderful. I felt like I was in another era. It was very cold but I wondered around the beautiful grounds and even saw a woodpecker on the lawn!I would recommend this venue for any kind of event, there are such a variety of rooms (wedding ceremony, ballroom, dining room, parlour, reception hall, outside terrace) that I cant imagine there wouldn't be something for everyone. I hope to go back and have an event there myself.

We recently held my grandmother's funeral reception at the house taking two of the lovely newly refurbished rooms for the event. We didn't use outside caterers and put together a very good buffet which served our purposes well. Ailise was really accommodating and happy to work with our ideas. I would really recommend this venue.

I was extremely excited to visit this venue after looking at the beautiful photos online, however we were greeted by a elderly lady who showed us around the venue. The venue smelt old and needed a lot of work to bring it up to a wedding venue standard. The bathrooms were avacado green and very dirty, one of the rooms were not fully decorated. The brides suite had a full length window with no curtain. The gardens were overgrown and on wondering down to the outside area where photos are unusually taken we looked to our left and saw an old bath tub and sink.I'm afraid i couldn't help but feel sorry for people who had booked here. The outside of the venue was surrounded by large gates and a barbed wire top to keep people out. there is also a strange 'mental hospital' feel to the outside with a white door to the side of the house and a spiral staircase. It was not the type of place id want to have my wedding.Caterers have to be brought in although they do have a kitchen to do prep work in. (although from looking at the state of it id say it wasn't very hygienic)Very poor and such a shame. Worth a visit if you are at your whits end and im sure they are trying hard, just not the right place for us.

Went to a wedding held here recently. Wow what an amazing venue. Like the previous poster said , an outside company ( kingfisher catering - Hemel Hempstead ) were used. The venue has stunning lawns and an amazing interior. There is a bug sweeping stair case inside that can be used for photos if the weather is inclement. Aisle and her partner along with the cateting team ensured the wedding past off without a hitch. Highly recommended.

My Family and I have recently traveled from Cardiff to attended a family Wedding reception at High Elms Manor and we couldn't praise the venue enough. The staff were very friendly and attentive, especially Ailise who was on hand to ensure the day went smoothly. The setting was stunning, both inside the venue and the grounds in which the venue sits. They use outside caterers and can honestly say the 3 course meal was delicious and the mobile bar covered all your drink needs without being overly expensive. All in all a fantastic day made even more memorable by a perfect venue!

I went to High Elms Manor for a wake after a funeral at the nearby crematorium. It was quiet and peaceful with views of the pleasant autumnal grounds though the room did have the air of faded elegance. The room booked for the wake easily accommodated the 80 mourners and there was a good supply of food, e.g. sandwiches, quiche, bhargies, and drinks; both hot and cold. The staff were unobtrusive yet everything was available and everyone’s needs were met. This is a venue for a large function and I understand there is a smaller room that would have accommodated 40 people. This is not an intimate restaurant; it is a venue for larger gatherings.

Absolutely amazing. Sunday lunch, the parfait and calamari for starters both wonderful. Then the roast beef, cooked to perfection. A proper roast with all the trimmings. Nothing was too much trouble, Milo was super attentive. The chef Allan clearly knows how to impress. Will definitely go back.

Was somewhat apprehensive about booking The Stables based on the recent reviews. Our experience was positive. We met friends and entered the beautiful restaurant with lovely fresh flowers. It has a lovely, relaxed vibe. We’d a young, but very attentive server and she provided excellent service throughout, even though the restaurant was fully booked and as time went on became very busy. Lots of friends and families meeting up and enjoying the beautiful setting of The Grove. We started with a selection of starters to graze on including the sour dough bread (beautiful), mushroom pate and the Isle of Wight Heritage tomato salad (so good, we ordered a second one). Then we had a child’s meal of the chicken goujons, several portions of the classic fish and chips, and the reminder of us had the lamb cutlets. All were excellent. My only criticism would be that the lamb didn’t come with anything so although you’d one side included you really needed both some veg and some carbs, but were forced to choose. For puddings, we’d a section including a stunning lemon tart. In all, a lovely get together of family and friends. And it was a glorious place to spend a couple of hours on a sunny Saturday. It ain’t cheap, but then you’re in a five star hotel. Happy to recommend and we’d certainly revisit if in the area.
