The Legstraps in Bedford

we visited for the first time last night for my birthday celebration, and from the moment we arrived. The entire experience was faultless. Food was delicious and plentiful. The waiting staff were attentive and helpful, the setting is lovely. We have a selection of mini plates (arancini, Cajun chicken, squid and meatballs) and for mains I had mussels (which came with the most delicious bread of butter and dill fries), and my husband had fish and chips. Couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to spend my birthday - and I really appreciated the little touch of our waitress wishing me a happy birthday and decorating the table with a birthday mat, little touches mean a lot.

This pub was recommended to us by our friends who have been before for a nice lunch but traffic was bad so turned up at 2.40pm, we were told it finishes lunch at 3pm and I checked going in on the door and it says 3pm but the young girl behind the bar said lunches are finished, I said we were told 3pm she checked with the kitchen or manager and they still said no which we felt not good, so we left and had a lovely meal at another pub which was excellent, they were not busy and I felt not very good considering competition and we will be now going to the pub we gave our custom

Nice pub. Good food. Very well presented. The staff looked after us very well. We had the private room, it was intimate for 8 of us with a nice atmosphere and when we closed the door we felt very relaxed and cut off from the world with very little ambient noise, good for talking and not having to shout. Location was nice and rural without the hustle and bustle of a busy road.

I had the lamb roast, and whilst tasty I was shocked by the portion size…at £20 I expected more than 2 small pieces of lamb, 2 roasties, 1 carrot, 1 parsnip, a smidgen of mash and red cabbage…cauli cheese was a welcome addition but left still hungry, disappointing 👎🏻

Went to see Tom Korni play acoustic set in pub. Pub packed lots of locals. Nice atmosphere and friendly.

Brilliant service, staff were excellent. My starter and dessert were absolutely delicious. A bit disappointed in my main - veggie Wellington, not many distinguishable vegetables in it and the sauce wasnt to my taste. Everything else wonderful though

Me and my partner went to The Legstraps for the 2 for £30 steak night. The rump steak is one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. It came with chips, mushrooms, tomato, garnish and a bone marrow sauce. The steak was cooked to perfection. We enjoyed some of the small dishes for starters, arancini and crispy Cajun chicken. We also had the Wednesday wine deal, buy 2 glasses and get the rest of the bottle free. This worked out so well with our steak and was a really nice Pinot Grigio. The staff were friendly as ever, it was a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely come again for the steak deal night. Lovely meal again at The Legstraps.

Used to go here for burgers and it was great. Unfortunately it is under new management and the food was abysmal. Had 5 starters and they were so poor my wife and I didn’t finish one dish. They had all clearly been deep fried and garnished with a bit of rocket but that did little to disguise the lack of flavour. Either the chef had NEVER tasted that’s food or he just didn’t care. Honestly I have eaten some awful food in many countries the world but this was up there. My wife and I used to love popping in there for delicious pint and a burger but those days have clearly gone. Such a shame

Good choice of menu and wine. Steak was cooked really well- just as requested. Veggie option limp and lacking in flavour. Service was mixed- our waitress was excellent, others not so much, need more training.

Superb food and customer service. Peaceful location, free parking at the back and comfortable outside tables. They do not have any Disabled parking or accessible toilets - just something to be aware of if attending this venue.

Stunning Sunday dinner, such a refreshing change for a restaurant to offer lamb. My dad and husband had the beef and commented on how lovely it was. We can also recommend the ‘lighter bites’ as a tapas started for all! Can’t wait to come back. My 4 year old cleared his plate of MeatBalls and Pasta; he’s never cleared a plate in his life.

Very good quality steak, well prepared and cooked accompanied by good service. The ambiance is really good. We would certainly come back.

Excellent all round. The service was good, the staff were friendly and helpful. Our sandwiches were very tasty and a good size with plenty of filling. However, the chips stole the show, truly superb. Crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside. Honestly, some of, if not the best chips I have had(after my Nans, but none come close to hers). Great lunch all round.

Wonderful Sunday lunch, highly recommend

The restuarant is local to us so can walk, making it very convenient. We looked at the menu online so ensure something for us both, and saw a new chef has just started. We were a little surprised when given just a bar menu, I questioned this and was told until the chef had settled in. I get all of the above, but think it a little unclear when the online menus say one thing when the reality was fairly limited. Having said all that, the service and food was very good and I am sure the new chef will make a success of the place. I would have given a Good rather than Average if it existed in the options above, I couldtn bring myself to pick Very Good as the limited options did impact our experience. I think in future I would call to book and ask if any issues rather than relying on them being clear online

Overall we had a nice lunch here and especially appreciated the dog friendly welcome but there was a few things that weren’t quite up to par. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out medium well and also stone cold. The chips were beautifully crispy so I forgave the overcooked steak. The ham with the ham, egg and chips was really fatty. Very friendly place though.

It was OK. Sort of 4/10. Service mediocre but better than the food. Didnt warrant a complaint but was close. Given other reviews on here, it was disappointing. Wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend. Far better pub-restaurants out there.

Visited the Legstraps recently for the first time since before the pandemic, and were impressed with both the service and the food. We chose a sharing platter from the bar menu, and it was absolutely delicious.

Don't order the seafood platter. There are 2 prices. £10 and £20. Shocker, 2 small prawns in shells, 2 pieces of Salmon, bit of mackerel and a few cockles out of a jar and...a couple of small rolls. Too much Marie Rose sauce. Extremely disappointing.

Expensive for what you get. The food was very good but the prices were high, £20+ for most main courses and £9 for desserts. My main course was very tasty but not enough on the plate. We always compare the price of fish and chips across places we go to and at the Legstraps it is £19.50, more than anywhere else we have seen locally. £9 for a crumble also seems very expensive. It is a pub with food not a fine dinning restaurant so quite casual and with people walking through to the garden.

Duck breast was cooked just right. Very welcoming as we hadn't booked a table. Well kept beer too

This pub is almost half way between us and a friend so we each drove for an hour or so to meet and have what was meant to be a special lunch on my birthday. Neither of us had been there before, but the set lunch menu looked very appetising. However, when we arrived (at 12.30 on a Thursday), we were told the set lunch wasn't available. No mention of that on the website, and as I had booked online, they had my contact details and could easily have let me know if it was just a one-off. It was too late by then to go anywhere else, especially as we weren't familiar with the area, so we settled for burgers and chips. Nice ones, and well cooked, but not what I would have chosen for a birthday meal!

We enjoyed a really good meal at The Legstraps in Wootton on 14 February with a bottle of wine and apero. The food was excellent and the staff helpful. We treated ourselves to the côte de boeuf for two, fabulous. The chef helpfully cut it up at the table when we asked for a bigger knife. Starter - a shared fish platter - also excellent, as were our desserts. Worth the drive and the price - you can easily spend as much on an inferior meal elsewhere.

I was attracted by the good review so we chosed this pub. It is very disappointing and I feel obligated to tell others of our experience of the food. The service is good though. The soup of the day was extremely extremely salty. I like to urge the chef/cook to try it himself! The skin of the seabass was soft and not crispy at all. He could have torched it if he cares, instead of serving it like that. I did not eat the slimmy skin. The grilled mediterranean vegetables should be fine except a piece of onion nearest to the outer skin was served and I had no choice but to push it out. I do not undertand why the cook put lots of cress on everything when it does not serve any purpose and are of no taste at all.

Having visited this idyllic village pub for a Saturday lunch, we were extremely disappointed to find filthy outside tables, covered in food, drink & cigarette ash, food inedible but charged extortionate prices but above all, management to be unprofessional and patronising…..clearly customer service and satisfaction...

Had a fabulous meal this evening at The Legstraps. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Excellent selection of wine and gin. The food was fabulous! I had the pork fillet and it was delicious and so tender. Well done chef and team!

Delicious food, but service a bit slow

Went for our wedding anniversary meal. Welcomed and escorted to our nice quiet table with a little plaque saying Happy Anniversary. Orders taken quickly. The starters were lovely and then the steaks arrived. We both said that we had never had such a tender, tasty steak in England before. It was absolutely fantastic! I made a mistake with my desert, a creme brulee. It was far too sweet and cloying and I could only eat a couple of spoonful. It was tasty but far too rich for me. Next time, and there will be a next time, I shall choose something a little less filling. All in all a lovely evening and we will go back again. I would recommend anyone to try The Legstraps.

We visited here on a Friday evening at 6.30 the car park was packed & we thought the restaurant would be full, but no! everyone was drinking in the bar or outside, the restaurant had 2 tables of people eating, I can now understand why....

No parking reserved for disabled guests. No disabled toilets and the ones that already exist are not accessible. Meats were not cooked to our liking and at no point we we asked how we'd like them cooked. Nice desert.

Food, service and menu were excellent and could not be faulted. The only fault is access to the toilets for the less mobile. The steps are so high access is extremely difficult. There is no way anybody in a wheelchair would be able to use...

Food ok. VERY crowded bar, no windows open, if we had been eating in there we would of turned round and gone home. Terrible drinks service with our meals had to keep asking where the drinks were. Staff were nice though.
