A present from my son for our 35 wedding anniversary through “buyagift” he paid £80 we paid £80 to Lathkil so £160 for one night b&b. Very poor quality, Everything was very old and had been just given a coat of paint, the carpets had been cleaned to within an inch of their lives. Bedding was however immaculate, but room looked out over a very small car park, earliest we had ever been to bed 10pm. The well dressers were in for a meal, so I’ll put the very very poor food down to how busy they were. Beautiful scenery, but wouldn’t recommend only for a quick drink whilst admiring the view. Expensive for poor quality. Staff friendly enough, will not be going back.

Stopped for lunch after a walk in the surrounding area of Lathkill Dale. Ideal place that offers fabulous views while enjoying a delicious hearty meal. Good choice of dishes from light lunches to filling main courses. Opted for the smoke cheese, salami and mustard mayo burger with fries - delicious! And very filling. Portions are generous and good value for money. Drinks include a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages from the bar plus teas and coffees. Opted for one of the real ales, which suited the meal perfectly. Overall a very enjoyable lunch with an amazing view of Lathkill Dale. Well worth a visit.

My daughter paid for a night way for me for my birthday.... FORS :- Lovely staff, peaceful location, nice room eventually, reasonable food. AGAINST:- Upon arriving we were given our room. When we looked it over we were disappointed because it only overlooked the little carpark. We were the only guests at the hotel so I went and asked if we could change the room for one with a view. I was told that this wasnt possible because all the other rooms were being refurbished, I went back and told my lady friend the bad news, A little later my partner went and ask again if we could change rooms if we paid extra ? Miraculously two minutes later the receptionist came to us and told us a room was available only if we paid £25 extra. My daughter had paid £80 and we paid the extra £25 so in total they got £105 per night in total. To be honest I've stayed at better hotels for a lot less. We will NOT be visiting the Lithkil Hotel again.

I had put this on my plan for the day we arrived as it was the closest pub to our campsite (Lathkill Wild Campsite which is stunning!) We wandered down (about half an hour walk) only to find the venue doesn't open on a Monday! our fault for not checking! When we returned on the Thursday, we had a lovely drink. The venue has beautiful views. The bar lady kindly let my husband charge his mobile phone, The restaurant was busy- it was their quiz night. Toilets were clean, service was good and they were dog friendly. Ticks all the boxes and will return again when in the Peaks next.

Just back from a three day stay at this lovely hotel. From the moment I contacted the hotel at the time of booking till checkout today the whole experience was just exceptional. Every member of Staff were all friendly and very attentive to our needs. Rooms had everything we wanted and the view was to die for!! We had three lovely breakfasts that contained beautifully prepared ingredients and delicious. We also took part in the Wednesday night pub quiz with a Pie and a pint ( I had a gin) had the beef and Stilton pie and the meat was succulent with a lovely flavour of Stilton, accompanied with big chips and peas! Very much old school but delicious! Will we be back? Most definitely. Thanks again x

We ate at the Lathkil Hotel today outside under the awning. We were 15 minutes late for our booking having walked 5.7 miles and had no phone signal to contact the hotel, however the restaurant had kept our table. There is no online ordering, it is all table service. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks to be taken, and tables seated after us had food and drinks orders taken first. One couple at a table adjacent were actually ready to leave having waited so long for service. Drinks were slow being delivered to the table, however all were correct. The food was cheerfully delivered and good portions. The beef lasagne however was disappointing and was significantly more pasta and tomato than mince. The pizza, quiche special, fish cakes, burger and BLT were enjoyed however we were not offered any condiments and none were on the table. Other tables were getting quite frustrated at waiting for the bill and to pay after their meal and eventually went and stood at the garden till which then caused a que of other parties waiting to leave. Families with their children then stood and blocked the garden stairs waiting to get in, making it difficult for other parties to leave with without physical contact when passing, let alone any form of social distancing. The food was generally good, staff were polite, but the organisation needs to be worked on.

After a bracing walk along Lathkil Dale from Alport, the walk up from the Dale bottom to the Hotel really worked up an appetite. We were treated politely, by the friendly staff, who'd really worked out about the appropriate precautions. The menu offered a good choice, and there was a good range of decent beers. We were all seated outside in a covered area, so we had a great view while we ate. Served by a team of enthusiastic young staff this was a very decent meal. The view from the restaurant is fantastic. Our family visited because it was so convenient to our cottage. Simple home cooked food to a high standard. Plenty on your plate, no need to visit the takeaway after this . I had the pie of the day followed by apple crumble and custard. My children had scampi, chips. Sweets were varied classics, Crumbles, ice creams, choc cake and cream. Don’t expect refined french cuisine at the hotel, but what you get is good food, cooked well..

We stayed here whilst walking the Peak Pilgrimage last year and remembered the superb pies so booked to visit again with friends this week. After a damp day the views over the surrounding dales were spectacular and all from the comfort of our dining room table. The pies were excellent again: lots of tender beef, a good ale gravy and crisp shortcrust pastry. No choice of pies at the moment - we hope the pie night will be reinstated when pandemic days have passed. I often forego dessert but the star of the meal was the summer pudding - the best I have ever tasted - a generous variety of delicious tart fruit with just the right amount of bread. Thank you for a memorable meal - we wish we lived in the area!

This place is in a gorgeous location with views to die for. Not only this, the food is fabulous too, and great value for money, with generous servings. A varied menu includes 3 vegetarian mains, and all mains come with a choice of relevant sides. I chose pea soup which was divine, and my husband went for pate. My veggie shepherd's pie and John's pie of the day were both enjoyed heartily. I couldn't manage a pudding but John had a pecan and whisky tart, an unusual choice which was very tasty (I was allowed a tiny spoonful to try!). We visited this pub at lunchtime after a nice stroll through the surrounding countryside. Our parents had already been and said it was really nice but with a fussy eater in the group, we had to be sure. We got on and it was busy due to groups of walkers but we were still able to get a seat in the bar with our two dogs in tow.Selection of about 6 hot dishes, sandwiches etc. All sounded delicious and we were not disappointed. Delicious food, piping hot, lovely friendly staff, nice selection of drinks and amazing views. The desert menu too was just out of this world, could have eaten them all.The greatest compliment I can pay came from our 2 year old. She loves her food and she had the creamy veg crumble. In her words, it was even nicerer than her nursery's chicken crumble and she raves about this! She ate the whole adult portion so can't be bad.Next time we're in the area we are definitely going back.

When we lived in Bakewell in the early 80s the Lathkill Hotel in Over Haddon was our favourite pub. We had memories of log fires, dogs sprawling under tables, good beer and decent food. When we returned there this month it was with some trepidation. Would it live up to our 35-year old memories? Thankfully, yes! We arrived after a good walk along the beautiful Lathkill Dale which runs below the Hotel with two weary dogs (not to mention their equally weary owners) to find a roaring fire, a friendly welcome, and good food. Well worth coming back for!

Ideally situated in the country with the rooms at the front of the hotel benefitting from the magnificent view over the Lathkil Dale. Excellent food and certainly a place that I will use again.

We stayed at the Lathkil Hotel, seemingly at the top of the world in Derbyshire's Lathkill dale. The views from the front bedroom windows and the bar and restaurant windows are stunning, looking out over fields of sheep, the hill rolling gently down to the river Lathkill. Utterly relaxing. We took the two back bedrooms; had we known, we would have tried to book the front two! But the rooms were comfortable, if in need of a little brightening. Silly little pots of milk were replaced without fuss with a jug of milk. There were fridges in the rooms. Good quality evening meals are served in the bar area, also in the restaurant. Lunch is served from a wonderful buffet in the restaurant. The puddings are hard to resist. Breakfast is served in the restaurant, and there is a wide range of breakfast foods including kippers.Service is friendly and relaxed. We didn't use the car for our three day stay, and found many long and short walks around Over Haddon.

Myself and four friends went for our usual walk, lunch and especially a real ale at the Lathkil,as we have been doing for 20 years. Only to be told we could not have our usual hand pulled pint. We had to be satisfied with left over ale from the weekends beer festival. Straight from the barrel, warm and flat and £3.30. We voted with our feet and have now decided we will not darken their doors again, Youlgreave will be our future venue. A cynical disregard for the locals and regulars.

Worth it alone for the view.Friendly helpful staff, nice food. Not too easy to find, but that is the most interesting bit, the peacefulness!Oh, but the view. Wow!

What a fabulous location! A pleasant drink overlooking the best scenery within the UK. We could have spent hours just sipping wine/ale and gazing into a slice of heaven.

Stopped here for luncheon on recent trip to Derbyshire. Not the easiest place to find, but well worth the effort. Spectacular views from the bar or restaurant. Luncheon was a choice of hot or cold buffet. We settled for hot and my lamb was delicious, as was Sally Anne's venison. Good food at around £8-9 each. The beer; 5 on cask including locals like Peak Ales and Blue Monkey. All tried in good condition. Only criticism is that there could be a stronger or darker brew on for those staying in particular. Stayed here 6 years ago and enjoyed it. Happy to recommend.

My husband, myself and our 13 year old son, staying locally, decided to eat our first meal in Derbyshire here. The cosy bar was for drinkers only, disappointingly as one party of four were allowed to eat in there, so we ate in the restaurant which does have spectacular window seats which we were given. The menu is broad but didn't offer a wide choice for a fairly sophisticated teenager. Being vegetarian my choices on offer were better. The food, when it came, was excellently cooked, very hot using locally sourced ingredients especially the beautifully cooked courgette and Brie crumble. Puddings were plentiful and beautifully presented. The bill, when presented, had a small anomaly concerning the soft drinks we had had but this was soon rectified by the staff. I would recommend Lathkil to mid generation parties for a quiet, sophisticated meal out with spectacular views.

Charming Cafe it is. The coffee is very good. The photos of table laid with cutlery and napkins and lovely decor enticed us drive out to Monsal Head where we know the views are wonderful to have a light lunch. BUT We sat at a table and although the place was empty ( very rainy outside ) the staff didn’t acknowledge us, say hello even or explain it is counter service only. If you are expecting food, think again. No meals, No sandwiches, No baked potatoes or anything substantial, just a few cakes, savoury pies and sausage rolls Most disappointing. Wasted journey. WILL NOT VISIT AGAIN. Hassop Station nearby saved the day fortunately.

great little bakery in the centre of wirksworth, spotlessly clean, and run by a friendly elderly couple, who make everything homemade. cakes, pastries, and homemade pies, and also coffeees, teas, and cold drinks.very reasonable prices, and just up the road from Wirksworth railway station. i always pop in for treats when i catch the train up from Duffield for the afternoon, recomended..! :-)

Lovely cafe in Matlock. There was an excellent selection of vegan options, and the food was delicious. Very well priced for the area, we managed to get a seat outside which added to the experience. The service was also amazing, especially the two teenage girls that were on shift. Will definitely be returning when we return to Matlock. Thank you!

We recently stayed locally for two nights and ate at the Miner’s Arms both nights. Nic was so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious on the first night but on bonfire night, we ordered the greedy Greek platter on Nic’s recommendation and it was excellent! Delicious food, really dog friendly and very welcoming. We’ll be back!
