Good Micropub with a Thornbridge Brewery taps takeover the day I was there

Doesn't look much from the outside, but decent choice of real ale

Cracking little micro pub with friendly staff and good, constantly rotating selection of ales. Also have a good selection of craft beer in cans from the main players like Tiny Rebel and Magic Rock. Beer garden is basic but about 3 times the size of the pub so very welcome on busy days. Dogs very welcome and bowls of water available. 23/12/2023: Google asked me to update, so I will. Still just as good as when I originally wrote this. Cracking.

Great micropub serving excellent drinks!

Absolute beauty of a pub, the barkeeper was very nice and helpful. Had a good conversation with him and and a few other guest. Sending love from Sweden, will absolutely make this a stop next time I’m in England

A good little micropub serving cask and craft beer.

Pros: delicious beer, great proximity to the station, lovely dog Cons: the atmosphere isn't exactly welcoming. I felt like I'd just walked into some sort of private party where I felt like an inconvenience more than a customer. I really enjoyed my drink but I don't think I'd feel comfortable coming back in the future.

Another little gem of a place. Chatty staff and great beer choices, cask and keg. An inviting atmosphere with clean facilities and beer garden out back.

Great micropub. I always call in on my infrequent visits to football at Burton. Unfortunately, on my Good Friday visit I only had time to quickly drink a pint of Charrington IPA. Always good beer and friendly reception.

Super little pub, good atmosphere and nice selection of beers, pies are excellent, good size but. You have to quick as they go like, erm, good pies!

I attended during the recent Burton Ale Trail (March 2023) and was very impressed by the ambiance, ales offered and the knowledgeable owner. Would return!

Nice little micro pub close to the town

Fantastic micro close to the train station. Great beer garden, a relief after being packed in like sardines at the beer festival nearby. Good choice of call and kegged beers. Highly recommended

Nice little bar with a great selection of drinks

I love this little micropub just outside the town towards the station. Always a good choice of well served draught and craft beers available, in a cost and friendly atmosphere, where conversation or quiet contemplation can be enjoyed.

Hard core real ale bar, not for the Carling crowd, mature sensibly people only please, one of Burton's top ale bars 🍻

Always been welcome in this micropub. Beers poured straight from the cask, friendly as anything bar chap, super friendly conversational atmosphere, always a good selection to choose from. Just as long as you have cash on you, £5 minimum on card payments.

A very Nice place to spend good time, even alone. The owner and clients were very open to me and the beer and cider are really good. If i come back to burton one day i definitivly come back to this pub! Thanks a lot. Oh and also, don't leave the place without trying the pikkle eggs!

Locale and real cider sold here, nice back garden when the bar is busy, and it usually does get busy. Very popular micropub.

Relaxed atmosphere with interesting selection of cask, keg and tins

Always got a good selection of real ales on the go as well as some unusual ciders. Worth the visit. There are alot of places that offer the "Real Ale"experience but no one quite like the Heretic

Lovely little micro pub and micro brewery in Burton. Limited opening hours do, check before visiting, but we'll worth the trip for some fibe drinks.

We have tried twice to enjoy this little place, sadly both times we have felt as if we were intruding/gatecrashing someone elses do! No welcome or atmosphere for us

My first time on Burton. What a nice little pub! Good selection of beers and ciders. The toffee/caramel stout went down a treat Will definitely return!!!

2 mins from station. Excellent little ale house. Excellent range of beers served direct from the barrel. Wine was good as well as was the service.

We were staying in Burton for a few days, having travelled down from Scotland. We went in on a Thursday night at around 7.45. We were the only people in there and were warmly welcomed by the owner and his lovely dog. We had a booking at a restaurant up the road and had initially only intended to go in for one but ended up chatting to the owner (I have forgotten his name unfortunately) and ended up having a second. We had a right laugh with the owner chatting about his passion for golf (a passion I share!). If we end up back in Burton we will definitely visit again as it was a real highlight.

Great example of the new high street style café micro pub. Not a lot of atmosphere and a bit bland inside but with a fabulous selection of beer. With good company and good beer, what more do you need? Big beer garden/space out back too.

This is a cool and funky wee place that doesn't fail to be a nice visit.

I've been before and really enjoyed the beer, unfortunately there was only 3 beers on this time and none of them were very good, tasted like the lines hasn't been cleaned properly, please note !!...tasted like. I know they don't have lines.

The beer selection was a delight with the Antracite from 3 P's Brewery being a marvellous beer to offer. A comfortable environment, welcoming and something a little different.

Passed through Burton in our boat and were thrilled to find this micro pub. A great selection of beer and bar drinks and an awesome atmosphere. Felt much more cool than we were expecting to find in this area and would be packed to the rafters in our home city of Lincoln. Enjoy it you lucky people!

Lovely little tap house, varied beers

I've been here dozens of times and I've always been welcomed by friendly bar staff that treat you as an individual and not just some punter handing over cash. Smiles, conversation and a great alround positive atmosphere add to the already warm and jovial air of The Last Heretic.

The staff makes this place special. Epitome is what micropub should be . He is a old spirit and enjoy that atmosphere and meet new people- Adrian(old costumer). Great micro brewery, friendly and welcoming owner

We popped in this little pub for a last drink before travelling home. Pub very warm a and cosy on a wet evening. Beer was enjoyed by all, recommend the licorice flavoured one!

Visiting this place for the second time in a year, I like it. Very much..! Nice atmosphere, great beer..!

Visited last night with friends after dining locally.No complaints at all, the beer was fine and the ambiance was welcoming.A bit difficult to get to the bar with regulars sitting around it chatting to mine host but they were most amiable and made room for me.Would revisit if in the area.

It's the perfect little micro pub that you don't want to miss. It has a wonderful selection of ales and craft beer, a rustic yet modern feel, with a really comforting atmosphere. It's a really lovely pub with very friendly barstaff and a great pint.

First time visiting today and won't be the last, great staff great beers and ciders, a real gem, superb little place.

Is the Last Heretic the worst micropub in Britain? Probably, definitely the nothing to enjoy the three times that I have visited that's for sure.The owner is one of the most arrogant self opinionated landlords I have ever met, more interested in running this micropub for himself and his friends than as a pub for the people and visitors of Burton on Trent.On the three occasions I visited there was only a maximum of three real ales to choose from (the last visit only two) the ale was very cold and overpriced compared with other pubs in the town. Nothing inspired me to stay or come back. The toilet was a bit of a mess and I certainly would not eat the pork pies given the way I saw them being served.I have to say that I am a fan of many other micropubs in Burton and across the UK, just not the Last Heretic, please avoid and try other better places in the town.

Not to put any other pubs down but I fully believe this is the last pub, in the entirety of Staffordshire, that has civilised drinkers. You can come here to get away from the pressure of society.

Great atmosphere and beers, the best microbrewery in Burton

Great feel about this place which is passionate about its beer. Good selection of what is currently available and a list of what's up next. They appear to have two permanent beers and then several guest beers which are different every time. Another must visit for beer lovers. Nice atmosphere we felt very welcome.

Came here two years ago just before their first birthday. Two years later it is still going strong. Friendly, now with added beer garden. A good selection of ever-changing draft beer, craft cans also available. A great concept well executed.

If you like real ale this is the place

cosy long thin bar with limited space but additional outside area for drinking. No big brands or music just real beer and conversation.

Narrow, but deep micro-pub near to the town hall and station. Although space inside is tight, there is a very large outside drinking space to the rear. Good range of cask and keg, most of it locally produced. Good place to visit, cheery staff too.
