The food is little or not processed. I ordered the chicken which was dry, the vegetables almost raw. No need to worry about tipping, additional service charges are added to the final bill (10%). The setting, on the other hand, is very nice and everything fits the theme quite well.

The security guard who is outside, is the most rudest person ever. He asked for ID, and apparently he told us that under 25 cannot drink alcohol but in reality the minimum age is 18. He actually didn’t want us to enter and spend family time. I showed him an virtual ID and he even didn’t want to look at it, meanwhile in other places they accepted it. He hasn’t been professional.

The beer and the venue are top five stars. Don't pay for their dessert called Cranachan, I eat all kinds of desserts, it has a terrible taste, I didn't like it at all. Let's talk about the service quality. There is only one employee who works in service and order delivery. He neither knows how to take orders nor how to talk. The man in front of me couldn't pay 4 times and he left and I waited. Then it was my turn, he asked for my table number, I showed him with my hand. He insisted on the table number, and I had talked to him while I was at the table, so he already knew the table number, let's say he forgot, he asks me even though I showed him with my hand, don't you know the number, you persistently ask me for the number. I looked sideways and saw the number. It says, "Your turn is over." While I was waiting, the man in front of me didn't have his turn. I waited for the people after me and this time it was my turn to order again and he said the food order was finished. There is an employee who is really uncommunicative, rude and does not know business ethics. I hope you do not come across that employee. Apart from that, the ambiance and the taste of the beers were very nice. However, current employees need to be trained in courtesy and communication.

We, a family of four, ordered three bacon cheeseburgers (£17 each) and a kids' burger for £5.50. Aside from the extra salsa and the slice of bacon, we couldn't tell the difference between our burgers and our son's. Furthermore, the kids' burger was served with thick fries, while the bacon cheeseburger came with thin fries. The service was terrible: we received our food without cutlery and had to ask for it. When we asked for mayonnaise, an empty bottle was brought to our table. When we wanted to order drinks for ourselves and our 17-year-old son [3 ciders], we were asked for our son's ID. When I told him he was 17 and explained to the waiter that in Germany, you can have a beer with your meal in the company of your parents, he laughed mockingly and said, "But not here." Finally, I politely asked him if he could show me the way to the line 11 stop. He: I don't know, I'm not going there. I looked at him, confused, and said, "Okay, thank you," and started to turn away. He probably realized that this was extremely unfriendly to a paying tourist and started to explain the way to me. Men's restroom: very dirty and run-down, dirty trough instead of a urinal. Conclusion: Nice location, everything else is terrible.

If you're walking through Grassmarket, it's worth stopping by this pub, which is well-known for its historical significance. We popped in here for a rest and drinks during a visit to Edinburgh. We had planned to return for dinner (based on reading reviews) but after our visit for drinks, we were put off and didn't come back. My husband ordered two soft drinks for us (it was mid afternoon and we just wanted refreshment, not alcohol) and the member of bar staff instantly asked, rather abruptly "they're not for under 18s are they?" We are far from 18 and had no children with us. He said she seemed very "off" and borderline reluctant to serve the soft drinks. Very strange. In addition, the pub didn't really have much of an atmosphere. It felt like a basic chain pub. The history around it is interesting but otherwise not really worth visiting. The food looked average too - we found far better places.

The Last Drop was our 14th stop in a tour of over 17 pubs around Edinburgh. Here we had Nicholsons Pale Ale as part of the Beer and Burger offering. True to its name, inside we found a noose and several paintings depicting capital punishment from earlier centuries. It was cramped and packed with people, so we weren't sure we would get a table, but managed to grab one just before they closed the kitchen and ordered! We had an incredible dining experience at The Last Drop! From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable, thanks to our fabulous waitress, Lily, who was attentive, friendly, and made our visit extra special. Our son loved his perfectly cooked hamburger, and we were blown away by the sticky chicken with sweet chili sauce—it was bursting with flavor! My husband enjoyed the Balmoral chicken, which featured roasted chicken breast and haggis wrapped in smoked back bacon with a whisky sauce. It was paired beautifully with buttery mash, long-stem broccoli, and carrots. For dessert, we stepped out of our comfort zone and tried the Cranachan. It was a delightful and unique treat—when in Scotland, you’ve got to embrace the local flavors! We highly recommend The Last Drop for its amazing food, warm service, and authentic Scottish vibe. I can’t comment on the bar or the food, but unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience with the gig. In short: please don’t sell more tickets than the venue can reasonably accommodate. We attended Hannah Grace’s show, and by the time my partner and I arrived, not only were all the tables taken, but there was no standing room left either. We found ourselves standing behind a wall near the stairs, craning our necks just to catch a glimpse of the stage. After three or four uncomfortable minutes, we decided to leave. It was a waste of money and time, and it left the evening feeling quite spoiled — especially given how much effort it took to arrange childcare so that two working parents could enjoy a rare night out.

It was quite a great discovery. A great menu, the staff was quite nice and we ate well. The beer was quite disappointing, but maybe we didn't try a good one. There are vegetarian/vegan options. For the tourists, just note that the kitchen closes quite "early," so if you're used to eating near 8/9PM, it's better to go there around 7PM.
