A venue that I should have visited before now. A classic Edinburgh experience

Absolutely beautiful Ambiance--stunning really. Too bad that is ruined by rude aggressive staff, poor service, and mediocre food.

We went to the restaurant for a meal before going to the Swing Evening. When we arrived at the restaurant we were stunned to see that despite there being numerous choices for “big plates” on the voodoo room website there were in fact only two options on the menu at the venue. The only choices available were Voodoo burgers or veggie burgers. In order to get sufficient food to call it an evening meal , three our our party had to order small plates, which were well named as the portions were in deed small and order a side of chips. The explanation we were given for the limited choice was “because it was Christmas, When we got to the Swing evening , despite being told there would be tables and chairs we found there were limited numbers of tables and all of them had been reserved by people who had attended previous events and knew how to do so. There was no information on line or given to us ,when we had e mailed to clarify seating ,that tables could be booked and how to do so. The rest of the seating was rows of hard wooden chairs which did detract from what otherwise an ok show. I would not recommend this place to anyone. On a positive the building interior is amazing .

Brilliant service from Bridget and Sophie who kept us well informed and supplied with delicious cocktails all evening. Excellent customer service and knowledge of their products made our visit enjoyable and tasty. Would highly recommend for cocktails and music and we will definitely be returning on our next trip to Edinburgh.

Cool cocktail bar with a great atmosphere. Decent cocktails at a reasonable price. Not a huge amount of seating in the bar so get there early!

Used to love going to Voodoo Rooms. Doubt I’ll be back now. The person at the door pounced on me as I walked in. Felt very unwelcome. The place used to have a very relaxed and lovely ambience not now. I was going to have a cocktail but didn’t stay after the way I was “welcomed’

My wife and I hired The Voodoo Rooms for our wedding reception in September 2024. We were drawn to the ballroom because of the different vibe the venue gives off. My wife and I wanted that little something different and The Voodoo Rooms was everything we wanted and more! Nora the event manager was brilliant! Every detail was covered. Menu planning was easy and we were able to make the room our own. They even agreed to open earlier than usual for us to accommodate the guests after the ceremony whilst we were getting photos taken. The food was great and the bar well stocked. We took the option of their drinks tokens to give our guests a different experience. The staff helped with everything and nothing was too much trouble for the night manager who came and looked after us and made sure our guests had a great time. We had a family emergency the following day and The Voodoo Rooms were very accommodating allowing us to store our decorations there until 2 days after the wedding which was very helpful and thoughtful we cannot thank them enough. Would definitely consider holding an event here again!

Beautiful place, nice staff. But: much too cold inside. Chilling. Freezing. Not comfortable. And: the drinks were not too good. Watery, lots of ice, tiny amount of spirit.

Used to be really good for a chilled vibe. Now just pre-booked tables (that no-one had turned up for) and lots if people standing wondering why this place isn't cool anymore. Irrelevant pub.

Reserved tables unoccupied for long periods of time but nobody allowed to sit there. Will not be back. Staff not very accommodating.

Terrible experience. Staff dressed in fancy dress and it wasn't Halloween. Multiple tables reserved with no one taking their spots, people moaning standing at the bar can't get a seat. Staff indifferent. Couldn't haven't been managed worse or less helpful. Come here to be disappointed. Mike

We had a dinner at Voodoo Rooms on 18th October for a group of 100 people. The food and service was excellent. Everyone was incredible and went out of their way to ensure that the group had a wonderful evening. Thank you to everyone.

Came in for a quick drink, amazing decor, great cocktails but what made it was the service. The girl (apologies didn’t get her name) was so attentive, I’ve never seen someone move so fast and made sure we were looked after at all points. She was doing this with every single table whilst keeping a table with a birthday party happy. Only went in for one drink but she managed to impress us so much. Thank you!

Only saw the ballroom, for a gig, but it was beautiful, stunning building/decor... Seats were a bit crammed together, not much room/space... But amazing venue, I would highly recommend!

Came to Edinburgh for a long weekend and my wife found this place on Google. Did not disappoint! Staff were amazing, and this place looks amazing! A great hidden gem and worth finding

The interior of this pub is really worth a visit! Good selection of beers and the food is tasty.

We organised a networking dinner and drinks event at The Voodoo rooms and had a brilliant time. I would like to give a huge thanks to Lewis who worked behind the bar in our private room (the carte blanche) who worked incredibly hard to ensure the event went smoothly even though he was a bit under the weather! Would definitely recommend as a venue for a corporate event.

We didn't eat here, just came for drinks and shared a table with strangers. Ended up having the best night! Bar had a huge variety of drinks and the vibe was great.

Quite disappointed overall, had a burger which was nice but everything was overpriced, very dry sticky toffee pudding (£9!). Not going to rush back unfortunately.

I held my event here in the 8/9/24 the staff are amazing and enjoyed every minute of it. The food was fantastic , thank you to the staff at the ballroom. Morag

Hello, friends family travellers of the world, Barry MCG here, reviewing a fantastic place and folks be prepared this place, the voodoo rooms is one of the best experiences I have ever had, care to join me let's go! Three weeks ago my fiancée and I were in beautiful Edinburgh at the fringe, it was just kicking off. The vibes were great, it was just lovely. On our second night, we decided to go for dinner where to go, I heard about the voodoo rooms and the day before I had discovered the Voodoo rooms just off princess street, on a quiet little road. We arrived hungry and full of happiness! As soon as we walked in the service was second to none, so friendly were our servers and so, so nice. We were led to our beautifully laid table and menus were presented, oh yeah! the menu was brilliant, not too much or too little, vibrant with something for every taste. We opted for the garlic flat bread with mozzarella and fresh tomatoes. I ordered the sticky pork with Pak choi and rice and my lady ordered the katsu tofu mmmm. We sat back in the stunning surroundings and just gazed in awe at the beauty of this place. We ordered a mocktail and oh my what a flavour, what a drink it was named the Hare Krishna. I cannot describe how good this was. We sat chatting, the starter arrived, flat bread with garlic perfect, thin and crispy, lovely tomatoes and mozzarella super tasty and a great start to our meal. The mains this was a sight, my sticky pork was cooked to perfection, the Pak choi complimenting it to a tee. The sticky rice was amazing what a dish, my lady's katsu tofu dish was off the scale bursting with flavour, perfectly cooked an absolute delight, whoever cooked this did so with passion. We both acknowledged what a superb meal this had been, 5 Star oh yes. Dessert we had sorbet and ice cream, again off the scale lovely, homemade no doubt that this dish was full of flavour, a great end to our fantastic meal. The staff were so wonderful, the ambience was electric, the food was some of the best I have tasted. The drinks were spot on and the price considering it was fringe time and Edinburgh gets pricey, very reasonable, what can I say folks, the voodoo rooms are winners a marvellous beautiful place, that I simply cannot wait to visit again. Everything I mean everything, was perfect and we will both treasure the memories of a great night. If you are in Edinburgh, you must I say MUST visit these guy, you really will not be disappointed. I can assure you, that the Voodoo rooms are fabulous. Okay I'm done, thank you for reading folks, feel free to follow me on my next adventure. Came here for the Lunar Market and stayed for the beautiful venue and great cocktails. We did not have food so I can't speak on that at the moment. Absolutely loved the ambience!!!!

Great place for a meal and show The venue has a couple of rooms for live entertainment. We went for food then watched a show. The venue has a great feel and the staff are lovely.

Stunning location to grab a drink after work. The decor is well-finished, the staff are lovely and there is an amazingly chilled atmosphere to enjoy a drink and a chat with friends. My new favourite venue in Edinburgh ☆☆☆☆☆

Had an absolutely hysterical night here with one of the fringe acts. Burlesque night. Certainly one for giggles and tittervation.

This place had such a cool vibe, great band, and overall good energy and ambiance.

Superb place, very wide choice of drinks and top service. Side by side with the well-known Royal café, don't hesitate to climb the few steps that lead to the Woodoo rooms, the atmosphere is calmer and the decor incredible. I didn't rate the food...we didn't eat there.

Lovely evening at the Voodoo rooms with my friend. Fantastic cocktails and yummy teriyaki prawn. Staff were all really nice and attentive ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lovely venue popped in for a few drinks for a friends birthday 🎂 drinks priced as expected for Edinburgh. Staff were lovely. The interior is beautiful though make me feel I may be chained to a wall at any minute 😉🤣 definitely visit !!! ♥️

I had my party at the Voodoo Rooms last weekend. I cannot say enough about my experience if I could do it all again this week I would. The team could not do enough to support me on the lead up to the party Nora was fantastic and on the night the staff and bartenders were amazing, attentive, good fun and professional. The canapes were excellent and the music system was great - the speakeasy room is such a great venue for a party!!

Unfortunately had one if the worst ever bar experiences in voodoo rooms back in a April 24. As a fairly regular customer I can say mostly it's a great bar however the reason for the post is I had to raise a complaint to the shift manager about one of the bar staff chasing me to the toilets for drinks ordered at the bar while one of our group was also in the toilet and the other waited at the bar. The shift manager was unable to diffuse the situation which resulted in me leaving the premises with my party on my own accord. Before leaving I asked to raise a complaint and followed up in writing ( as agreed) on 20th April and given it is now May 29th it would appear that the manager had no intention of doing anything with my complaint other than ignore it...which i assumed and has now resulted in the complaint! I spoke to three different members of staff and their little game to supply terrible service was not met with appreciation and it completely spoiled my night. The experience was 100% anti-hospitality and the follow up was just lip service so negative feedback is completely warranted and it's such a shame as I used to really love this bar. " just can't get the staff " Hopefully the management team read these reviews as your staff are performing black magic with your reputation!

The experience was 100% anti-hospitality and I saw one of the other negative reviews being focused on ageism so perhaps this was it. Wmy party had a really bad experience at voodoo rooms on April 20th. I raised a complaint with Beth the manager and they asked me to email my complaint which I duly did however as its over 5 weeks later, they clearly didn't do anything with my complaint other than ignore it! As a regular visitor to the bar for over 10 years I can say the majority of my visits have been excellent however the bad one was a shocker. The bar itself usually have friendly greeters and table service and their tequila selection far exceeds friendliness. Please save this bar from these ego-maniac staff. 1 last thing on the staff that evening - you're not cool!

A very average experience. The room where the bar is is stunning, but we were put in what seems like an overflow room which was dull. This bar is confused about what it is, one room had live music (I assume private hire) which was so loud it drowned the overflow room. Some of us were having just drinks, others drinks and nibbles & others a 3 course meal. Cocktails were average, food also average. Duck Bon Bon’s were decent, chips were supposed to have rosemary and Parmesan but the rosemary was hard to see or taste and Parmesan lazily added on the top in slices rather than grated and layered through the chips. IF you still chose to visit make sure you request seating in the main bar

Staff can't take a laugh. Not good for groups with a sense of humour. Deliver a message without aggression or rudeness. Maybe laminate your reservation signs

Such a great find, amazing food and music, absolutely loved how unique the cocktails were and staff were very friendly and provided great service, was such a good time.

Shockingly bad customer service. Found a lovely booth showing no reservation and ordered drinks. First sip and we’re told we need to vacate table in 20mins. We said there’s no reserved sign, no advance warning at bar. We asked if we could have refund and to go elsewhere. We were dismissed and even laughed at by bar management. ‘Not how it works here’ is what we were told. Hugely arrrogant, dismissive and belittling. Awful people. Go elsewhere.

Lovely staff took our group in when our plans changed due to strikes and weather. We were thoroughly looked after and our trip to Edinburgh would have been very different without the staff here. Thank you

The ambiance at The Voodoo Rooms left much to be desired. Upon arrival, my party and I were seated at a small table placed awkwardly in the middle of the room, obstructing the flow of traffic and making us feel uncomfortable throughout our meal. Despite requesting to be moved to an available booth within the same room, our server declined our request, leaving us feeling ignored and unwelcome. The food was also very slow to arrive, we waited 50 minutes for our mains. The service provided by the staff was subpar, to say the least. Despite our polite request to be relocated to a more suitable table, our server refused to accommodate us, even though the requested booth remained unoccupied throughout our visit. Furthermore, when we mentioned our entitlement to a 20% discount as attendees of a gig at the restaurant, the server only provided a revised bill with a 10% discount. This discrepancy was only noticed after payment, suggesting a deliberate attempt to deceive or was it a mistake I wonder? My experience here was thoroughly disappointing.I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to others, and I urge potential diners to exercise caution before visiting.

We had a good time, the sound world is not suitable for those who like silence.

This was the best place we had drinks our whole trip! The atmosphere was amazing, the service was quick, the drinks were absolutely delicious, and the staff was so knowledgeable and friendly that they've made it a lasting memory when I think of Edinburgh.

Upstairs above the Cafe Royal are the voodoo Rooms, now a separate establishment. No more the oyster restaurant but a cocktail bar with a food menu and a ballroom! The original decorations are still in tact and are the main reason to visit. It is a lively popular bar like so many in Edinburgh. You can book a table but they expect some of the party to order food. Serve is at the table and efficient with friendly staff working hard. Worth a visit to see an original style of Edinburgh establishment with all its finery.

Rory and Rex served us tonight and we couldn't have received better service, they were fantastic from start to finish, one of our party had a disability and they catered for our every need, the food was absolutely amazing, this is a wee hidden gem and we will return without a doubt. We'll done guys, absolutely fantastic place.

Exceptional service, cosy feel in a central albeit "hidden" location. Prices were very reasonable indeed considering the above. Would recommend 100%.

Absolute madness. I have rarely felt so taken care of and welcomed. The entire staff exudes this. There is also a selection of drinks and cocktails that is second to none. For us, a must-do every time we visit Edinburgh. And a special shout out to the young man at the bar whose grandad works at Glenkinchie Distillery. He advised me very patiently and I have had a favorite whiskey ever since.

I've wanted to try the Vodoo rooms for a long time and it didn't dissapoint. It's absolutely stunning inside and great intimate venue to see a band. We came from Glasgow to see a very talented band Deeke Mcgee Band 👌. The staff all seemed friendly, Great selection of different drinks, very busy place. I will be back

By far the most beautiful bar in the city and the people in service and at the bar are also very nice. The bar menu is great and the atmosphere is incredibly pompous and beautiful. Always happy to come here.

Staff are terrible e.g I was there with my mum & stepdad who are in there 80's (have a very young cool vide about them for there 80's) the manager wanted the table we were at for 8pm so at 7.35pm he came up to the table by standing a meter away and shouting in a army type voice that they needed the table at 8pm etc. I said to him there's no need to shout and why are standing so far away, he then talked over me as I explained we just need a nice word about requiring the table at 8pm - same chap came over again at 7.50pm and did his army shout again. This time I said please don't shout at us again, we are just about to go - that's when the lecture started and ended him calling me ruled. Moving on to the gig the barman was scruffy but cool and was none stop looking at his phone, although he did serve very quickly and was good at his job. I have to say he just seemed like he would rather not be there and some how a little to good for the job. Amazing venue and drinks/food were pretty good

My experience at Voodoo Rooms was average. We went mainly for drinks. I really love the ambience and the atmosphere. I read the reviews online that there cocktails are amazing and i tried Armed Strobbery which is my favourite and Vote for Pedro which i would say not to order not even by mistake.

Stopped by on my way to dinner with my partner and remembered my time here previously and had to show them the amazing venue. We were greeted in a very warm and friendly way by Tanisha who saw us to our table and gave utterly fantastic service throughout out time here even telling my partner the website they could find her stunning dress on. All in all, a fantastic experience I'd return to again and again

Fantastic small bar with a cozy gothic vibe.Really friendly staff and an excellent selection of beverages really lovely decor. They often have a lunar market in the evenings which has some great local handmade crafts and photography.

This has always been my most favourite place for Martinis in Edinburgh and everytime I come for a visit I try to have at least one there :) Table service takes a bit longer every now and then but something I can live with.

We had the most wonderful experience at The Voodoo Rooms! When there was an issue with our meal, the staff were so friendly and helpful! Will definitely be going back!!

Great atmosphere, beautiful decor and good drinks

We visited here on Monday during a trip to Edinburgh and honestly all 5 of my stars go to our server Rex! Never had a waiter anywhere compare to his service and we eat out A LOT! Super helpful and couldn’t do enough for us even in the super busy festive period. The vibe and atmosphere is so good and the interior is simply gorgeous! We didn’t try any of the cocktails but they looked and sounded delicious and our food was delightful. All around impressed but definitely needed to give an extra emphasis on the staff especially Rex!

Disappointed with the food at least,, the beef was tough and the the traditional christmas turkey doesn't have brussels sprout.

The Voodoo Rooms is a bar for wonderful cocktails and a wide range of beers and spirits. They also have a delicious menu with lovely burgers, a vegan selection, and amazing tapas. You can also book rooms for any occasion here. They offer a variety of room sizes that are anywhere from 10 - 300 people. For birthdays, meetings, and gigs. Staff are always friendly and happy to help you out with any drink choices you may struggle to make. Although from the outside, the bar is accessed from an unassuming door down a side street. The decor inside has to be seen. And upon entering the bar, you really feel like you are somewhere special. It's a very popular cool bar, and yet when I go there, I always feel like I've stumbled into this secret that not a lot of people know about. A must visit bar for anyone visiting the city or for my fellow Edinburgh people on a night out. 👍

I’ve always loved the Voodoo Rooms, until this evening. Went there tonight with my partner, we were shown to a table by a waitress who went on to explain what ales they didn’t have. Ok, we are fine with that. My partner went up to the bar, stood for over 5 mins with no one behind the bar , BUT 3 staff stood at the end of same bar with no regard to people waiting to be served. Result - we gave up and left to go elsewhere. Shame it’ll make me think about ever going there again.

Avoid! Terrible food that was served cold. But worse than the food was service from the manager & rude staff. When we told her that the food was cold, which was a curry, she then decided to give us a complimentary plain bowl of rice with no curry on it. Then at the end when we had probably one of the worst with meals of our life, she took £3 off off the bill when we hadn’t touched barely any of our dinner. She said we took too long to complain, but that happens when no staff are in the room to tell. Eventually I got up to tell them about the issue and found them in a different room. The manager who I think was called Courtney (she told us her name was Beth) said there’s nothing else she can do. She just had no understanding that a curry is meant to be warm at least.

A gorgeous, quirky bar with a fab, relaxed, friendly atmosphere and the drinks were delicious! Well worth a visit if you’re in Edinburgh! The Interiors are great, with a few different rooms, so plenty of places to sit!

A bit noisy in a busy Friday night, but that's pretty much all I can say on the negative side. The service was perfect, and the waitress (Tanisha) even spoke a way better French than my poor English. The food was incredible (the prawns) and the cocktail I took was delicious.

Friendly staff, great cocktails and the food (specifically the burger and fries) was delicious. Generous food portions and overall good value for money. The atmosphere was buzzing and decor is impressive! The only reason I didn't give it the full 5 starts (would give 4.5 if I could) is that the toilets could do with a good clean and revamp.

The Voodoo Rooms boasts stunning aesthetics but falls short in creating a cozy ambiance. It's safe to say that the Voodoo bar is undeniably beautiful; everything is crafted with top-notch quality. However, the staff lacks friendliness, and the drinks are prepared without much care. Despite the grandeur, it exudes an empty and uncomfortable atmosphere. All in all, I'd recommend the average tourist to make a brief stop here, but don't anticipate spending more than half an hour.

Food was amazing, visited after the Fringe show and had an amazing time. The place was amazing, great menu and loved the Haggis !

Staff including bartenders, servers and woman bouncer at front door are all very rude and discriminatory. While the ambiance of the establishment itself is lovely, the food was average and service ruining anything positive about this place. Do not recommend.

Absolutely dreadful and appalling. I was treated with enormous disrespect. I was made to feel like a criminal and accused of lying. I'm completely appalled by how I was treated. It left me extremely upset and ruined the last day of our holiday to celebrate my daughter's success in her A levels and in securing her University place. I would not recommend this place at all. We came here to celebrate our last day at the Fringe and it was ruined. Truly horrible!

Friendly people nice Atmosphäre and flair

Lovely decor. Great drinks. Poor food. Aggressive bartender. The service is slow. Lots of new staff. Maybe the barman is the manager? He yelled in a way reminiscent of someone from a movie suffering from Tourette’s Syndrome. Shame. Shows how a nice spot can be diminished by poorly executing staff.

Great atmosphere, decoration and staff but that's what you're paying for, as the food doesn't quite match it's elevated price compared to other pubs. And some dishes are unexpectedly small compared to others.

Excellent food for fair prices. The staff was very friendly and the menu has plenty of options for everyone. The atmosphere is nice, it's all in the same style and the location is easily reachable. All in all had a great diner here and definetly advice you to visit the place.

We were part of a group of 6 that attended on Saturday afternoon for a private rum tasting event. Unfortunately our host was incapacitated and unable to attend due to an injury. We inturn dealt with the MD Lachlan, who was incredibly professional, offering sincere apologies. His customer service was exceptional and he offered a compromised experience which was fantastic. We appreciate that unexpected injuries or illness can take hold of staff. However Lachlan went above and beyond making our visit a very enjoyable experience. So much so that we cancelled our next booking and remained in. Voodoo rooms sampling the wonderful cocktails and rum that was on offer. The mixologists behind the bar, were polite and very knowledgeable. A lovely ambience mid afternoon prior to the Saturday evening shenanigans. We will most definitely be back.

A relaxed atmosphere with pleasant, informal service in a very special inerior. Very nice cocktails. Definitely worth a visit when you're in the vicinity of St Andrews Square.

Excellent service from Courtney and Kai. We had the Bruschetta, olive tray, teriyaki prawns, and the fries to eat. They were all wonderful. Artemis, Free Bird, Not So Innocent, Rye Old Fashioned, Wray & Ting, and Cherry Trace were our drinks of choice and they were fabulous!

Absolutely the food highlight of our Edinburgh trip! Staff are super nice and friendly; house cocktails are amazing; and the food is delicious w beautiful presentation.

Excellent all around. The prices are fair, the atmosphere is unique and well-done, and the drinks are stellar! Honestly, I was surprised by the food. I expected it to match the hyper-casual, almost youthy punk tone of the music and attire but it came out looking and tasting like fine dining. Were we local, we'd be regulars.
